Strickt redundancy/strickt failover(active/passive) or active/active operation?

  Hi,
i couldn't find a documentation which states clearly how traffic flows from the mezanina adapter ports to FEX adapters. We have the A side and the B-side. that is for both fabric interconnecto and  FEX adapters. does the B side actively send and recieve traffic(active/active) or is it a redundant setting (replica of side A) waiting idle till something goes wrong with side A (active/passive). if it is active/active, how is loadbalancing algorithem working at server adapter to pick say the B side as opposed to the A-side? please put it clearly. all the discussions i see talk about how traffic is forwarded on the A side and they explain failure scenarios which only makes sense when the B-side is just redundant and standby. please let me know.
Thanks,
Kerim

Hi Abhinav,
thanks! this made it a bit clearer.you saied both fabrics (A & B) are active/active physically and not logically.let me see if i get this right. for a mac address or veth port which is currentlyt on fabric A to be seen on fabric B, there has to be failure on fabric A and vice versa.
the other thing i read on a documentation that for every vEth port on FI(fabric Interconnect) A, a replica will be created on FI-B which will be just sitting there waiting for failure on fabric A. is this true? if so is the reverse also true i.e for every active vEth port on FI-B a replica will be created on FI-A waiting for failure on fabric B. what does this say about mac ddress table size about the FI? please let me know.
thanks,
Kerim

  • Failover active/standby

Hello. There are two Cisco devices: asa5512 and asa5510. Tell me whether it is possible to organize a failover active / standby using these devices. If this is not possible, tell me if there are any other possibilities for automatic backup.

If by Backup , you mean hardware Redundancy , it would not be possible.
You can run the same configuration on both the devices and if one fails , you can manually replace it with the other one.

  • Redundancy and Failover setup for 2 MPLS link with 2 different countries

    Hi Sir/Madam,
We have 2 MPLS link and both links are active (from COUNTRY A to COUNTRY B) and we also have 2 partners who are located in COUNTRY B with same building but with different offices and each partner will be using each MPLS link.  For example, PARTNER A will use the 1st MPLS link and PARTNER B will use the 2nd MPLS link and we want to have a failover setup (please see sample design below).  What is the best solution for COUNTRY A and B to have a full redundancy and failover setup/network?
Any recommendation and sample configuration will be a big help for me.   Your feedback is highly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.
    Best regards,

MPLS links, eh.  You mean your MPLS facing ports have actual MPLS labels?  Or do you mean your WAN links are running across a MPLS network, but the handoff isn't MPLS?
Country A's two routers are your company's devices?  Do you have interior connectivity between them?
Country B's two routers - do they or can they have interior connectivity?

  • PM order: operation short text mandatory for active operations only?

    Hi experts,
a quick question regarding operation short texts in the PM order:
I would like to make short texts in PM order operations mandatory.
When I set the short text to "mandatory" in the "operation list customizing" field selection (Tcode OIOPL), all of the operations in the order shown in the operation list (standard 0010 to 0170) get the short text field marked as mandatory.
This means that a short text is expected even for operations which are not used/active, which is a pain if I only want to use operations 0010 and 0020...
Does anyone know of an OSS note that fixes this?
Or is there some other customizing that needs to be done?
    Thanks a lot!
    Andreas

    Hi,
There is no fix for this as its not an error as such. The screen processing does not distinguish between active and non-active operation lines. So if short text is mandatory it will be required on every operation line. OIOPL is not suitable for marking fields mandatory for that reason - ok for hiding fields or making display only.
    Consider the exit as suggested.

  • NSOperationQueue. How many active operations in progress?

    Hello,
I am using NSOperationQueue for my threading and have setMaxConcurrentOperationCount: NSOperationQueueDefaultMaxConcurrentOperationCount so that the Queue itself decides how many threads are used based on available resources.
How do I know exactly how many active operations there are at certain time?
    -maxConcurrentOperationCount returns -1
[operations count] returns the number of operations added to array - not how many of them are active
Do I need to manually iterate and ask each operation if it's active or is there some faster way?
    Thanks.
    -Mike

Depending on your needs you could :
    - poll each operation when needed
    - alternatively you may observe the isExecuting property to be notified immediately in case of change.

  • Failover active/active cluster

I want to create a failover cluster where both the database servers are active. If one of them fails, then the other should take over. I don't want to create shared storage system like the RAC. What are the hardware requirements? I think 4 network adapters, 2 on each of the servers plus two switches, 1 for public network and the other to connect between the 2 servers while synchronization is being performed should be sufficient, Isn't it?
How should I install oracle? Do I have to install cluster software on 1 of those servers before installing oracle on the same server. What do I have to do while configuring the oracle software so that synchronization will be automatically performed?

Probably you don't want RAC then. RAC is about shared storage. Check:
    1) DataGuard wih Active DataGuard
    2) multimaster repliaction (Streams etc)
btw: RAC nodes are connected to filers/storage arrays that have high level redundancy than servers so it is much harder to find failing storage array. You can even utilise ASM to have mirrored storage arrays for even higher redundancy... (N servers with M filers/storage arrays).

  • 5510 to 5505 failover (active/active)

    Hello,
We have both a 5510 and a 5505, and they are both running the security plus licenses. At this time, the 5510 is connected to our primary (and much faster) ISP connection. We also have a DSL connection available that I could connect to the 5505. A different ISP supplies each device (Charter and AT&T, respectively). Each are assigned a single, public IP address via DHCP from the respective ISP.
Is it possible to configure the 5505 to accept the connection and become primary in the event that the 5510 goes offline (either due to outage or failure)?
If so, what are the steps I would take to configure this? Examples of commands to issue would be very helpful.
    Many Thanks in Advance!
    -Rob

You cannot configure a direct Failover/HA setup with two different ASA models.
For a solution to your problem, I'd suggest using IP SLA on a router or L3 switch that both ASAs plug into - that way if one link/ASA goes down, the default route will change to the other ASA.
EDIT: By the way, the failover setup you describe is Active/Standby. Active/Active refers to two separate ASAs running multi-context, with one ASA being active for "context1" and the other ASA being active for "context2". ASA 5505's do not support multi-context.

  • Which account is used to failover to passive node of Windows 2008 R2 2-node cluster?

When I set up drive letter for shared drives in Windows 2008 R2 2-node cluster, I accidentally used a drive letter which has already mapped automatically due to the login I used.   After I run the cluster validation tests, all the drive letters
for shared drives are changed.   I fixed this issue by disconnecting the automatic mapped drive and reassigned all the drive letters.
However, I wonder whether CNO is used to perform the failover so such issue will not occur actually.  Also, what happen if someone is logged on the passive node when the failover occur and any of the drive letters assigned for the shared drives
is already mapped due to that person's login.

    Hi Sebastian,
Let me clarify my question.  For example, there are clustered drives W:, M:, and L:.   Active Directory Group Policy has policy for some users to have mapped drive M:.
What will happen if failover occurs when one of the users having that policy is still logged on the passive node?
What will happen if failover occurs but that user has already logged off the passive node?
AKAIK, mapped drives are tied to the current logon user not for all users.
I don't know which account is actually used for the failover process.  CNO, VNO, the domain user account used to create the windows cluster, or ?
    Thanks.

  • At the time of finding redundant component failover information....

    os:redhat linux AS
    oracle:10.2.0.3
    hai..
    i am new to rac.
if production environment using orace rac with all failover components like two hbas, two fc swithces, four network cards(two for private interconnect, and remaining two for public) and four switches for high availability.my doubt is where can we get the component failure information? for example if we lost the one of the hba, the application availability is always there bcaz due to the redundant component(second hba) and we are not aware of the failover. how can we moniotr these type of failures in os like linux and in oracle also? please guide me....
    v.s.srinivas potnuru.

    Hi,
On a hardware failure event kernel messages are displayed on logs from Operating System under /var/logs. If redundancy is on hardware level it is transparent to Oracle.

  • CSM redundant or failover management configurations?

Is it possible to have more than one CSM server in a network? We would like to deploy CSM 3.1 but company requirements call for more than one device management server at different locations that can manage all devices.
Is this possible? I can't find any documentation to tell me yes or no.
    Any help?

Cisco Security Manager 3.1 will support various high-availability and disaster recovery deployment configurations using Symantec VERITAS software. Cisco Security Manager 3.1 has an estimated availability of mid to late April 07. If you are interested to beta-test this capability prior to release please contact me at [email protected]
