Finally we have our forum. This is brilliant, as VDI gets a much broader focus and attention these days. And also the technical questions are quite different from those around the core products, such as Sun Ray Server or Secure Global Desktop.
We like to encourage you to post and share your VDI insights here, ask questions if certain aspects around VDI are unclear or you need or have some advice. Or some general feedback. It's only available from the store, and you need 10.6.6 to access the store. But if you can download it using 10.6.6 on another machine, you'll be able to install it on a machine meeting the hardware requirements (it doesn't matter which OS was installed on it).

SPD Workflow will not start automatically for the first entry in a list on any given day (subsequent entries start just fine)

Hi. I have various workflows on various lists that share a common issue. The first entry of the day on that list will not start the workflow automatically. We have SharePoint 2013 Foundation. This same issue occurred when we had SharePoint 2010
as well. Interestingly, I had read about a 'fix' by adding a 5 minute pause at the start of every workflow which worked fine for a while. Now I happened to find that this is no longer working (after I see a bunch of workflows that didn't fire over the past
month - ugh!).
I know I'm not the only one with this issue as I ran across others with the issue when I first researched it and found the 'pause fix' a year or so ago and I also talked with someone else during a SP seminar who used this same fix. NOTE: These
are end users creating the items. It is not logged as a system account.
Any help would be appreciated. I have a SharePoint developer I can hire if this is beyond my ability to fix. I just need some guidance (last time I inquired they weren't aware of this issue).

Can you also advise if these are complicated workflows or high traffic lists?

You are only as young as you feel......
This is an example of how you can select the exact content that you want to sync to your device. You do not have to sync the entire iTunes library. You can pick and choose the music, apps, books and so on that you want to sync. This is using music as an example.
Connect the iPad to the PC and launch iTunes.
Click on the iPad name on the left side under devices.
Click on the Music Tab on the right.
Click on only the albums or playlists that you want to sync.
Click on the Sync Music Heading.
Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes
You can do this with apps, books, movies .... Whatever .... You have the freedom to sync whatever you want.

Only looking at the first entry

i have some code which checks a certain payroll number of an employee
for some reason - no matter how many employees i add to the TreeSet it only tells me that the first employee added exists
so if i add an employee number 121 and 123
it will say that employee number 123 is not found if i tell it to find that particular employee
if i say 121 - it tells me it DOES exist
whats going on?

Hi grm,
Yvan Koenig wrote an Applescript to create an popup menu with a true blank menu item. You can find it in Yvan's Box Account public area. Click on for_iWork'09, then for-numbers'09, then look for and download popup_with_nil.zip. Unzip the file, then open it with ScriptEditor.
Yvan's scripts include instructions (in French and English) on how and where to save the script and how to use it. I haven't read this one recently, so I can't give you any further details on it.

I got the first defective IPhone 4 in North America... :(

IPhone 4 arrived this morning. The screen has a manufacturing defect in it. It looks like whatever layer get's put down over the backlight is defective. I have dozens of "Bright spots" all over the screen. When I called Apple, the guy told me I am the first defect call they had received. Oh boy, lucky me.
The phone is usable but I can't imagine what it will be like to try and get a service replacement while everybody else is just waiting to get a retail one. Hopefully they reserve part of the new stock for service replacements.
Anybody else get a defective one???

I spoke with a tech support rep who then connected me to a senior adviser since she wasn't sure what to do since it's so new.
The sr. adviser told me since it officially isn't out until tomorrow their computers wouldn't let him create a repair order so I have to call back tomorrow.
Luckily it's not too bad so I can live with it for now I just hope it doesn't get worse.
I also noticed its not just 2 blobs in each corner, the top actually has issues all across which I can easily see with an all white image on screen.

Sorry it's really hard to see in the photo even though I increased the contrast and lowered the brightness a bit. It almost looks like lens flare but it's that blob in the right corner.

What settings do you have on your iOS devices ? You can use Settings > General > Restrictions on an iOS device to prevent in-app purchases, and to require your password to be entered for every download (the default is a 15 minute period during which it doesn't need re-entering).

Hows to get Web Results as the first entry on a page

How do I get rid of the "ads related to" "searches related to" "featured content" in the search results? I would like "web results" to be a the top of the page. Scrolling through all the unwanted results are cumbersome to me..thank you for your time.

Use Adblock Plus with an Easylist subscription. I do not see those extra links with the search engine I use most of the time.

Apple can only offer what whoever holds the rights to that show in your country will allow. If they won't license the fourth season for some reason, there's nothing Apple can do about it. Complain to the show's distributors.

Our menu bar no longer works correctly. The flyouts only show the first menu option and none of the drop-down menu options.

In previous versions of Mozilla we had drop-down menus that contained flyouts that offered more drop-down options. This no longer works in Mozilla 4. If you look at our website in IE7, 8 or 9 and Mozilla 4.0.2 they now work differently. (www.saskschoolboards.ca) Eg. Under About Us / Committees there should be three more dropdowns on a flyout - Committee List; MEPP Report and Semi-Annual Report form. Mozilla 4.0 only shows Committee List and no other drops downs. All of our flyouts are showing only the first selection and nothing else.
Other affected menus dropdowns are:
Board Dev / Trustee Development (there should be 4 dropdowns - not just one)
Communications has Surveys and Elections
Why is Mozilla not showing our menus correctly anymore?

It looks that the mootools script is no longer compatible with Firefox 4. 
Google Chrome behaves the same and also doesn't open the sub-menus properly and keep the first entry on display once it is open.
Did you check if there is an update for that script?

Show balances only at the first row in Discoverer.

I have a discoverer report based on Oracle GL module. I'm reporting the balances @ segment1,2&3 which gives Journal date, Begining balance , Journal amount and Ending balances. I'm able to pull in all the data. But the user wants enters the parameter as From period, To period and the segment1,2&3. Here is the data which is showing in my report currently.

user wants see the beginning balance only @ the first period. He is not interested in showing up at each and every line.
Then ending balance is sum of the begining balance which is at the first line and sum of all the journal amount which should show up at the last line.
I don't know how to show begining only at the first period and ending balance at the last row. Please help!!!

Maybe you would come up with a custom folder that unions the GL Balance table to the GL JE Lines table? You would have to union a begiining balance entry to the JE detail. Not sure you would need an ending balance record. The beginning balance entry would have the first day of the month as its journal date value as part of the union coding, and journal name NULL. So that hopefully it will sort out as the first entry for the period. Though even that still provides an issue with crossing over multliple periods. You would have to add conditions that say that select the NULL journal name entry only if the journal date = the begin period begin date. Or as part of the union process you could create a new column with a flag for balance (Y for the beginning balance table records and N for the detail JE lines records) and use that new column for editing along with the begin date of the selected date range. Just trying to toss out some ideas here. I myself have never had to do sometihng like this, so I don't have a proven method to accomplish this. But think back to what happens when you join tables with SQL. You are getting a record today with begin balance, je detail line amount, and end balance, because you are joining gl balances to je detail. What you really want, I think is an SQL result that gives you the first result row being the beginning balance of the account of the user selected From Period, and then the following SQL row results are the detail JE rows. That way you only get the beginning balance to print one time, at the beginning, in the SAME column as the je detail amount, and you can then do a sum at the end of the account to sum up the Discoverer report detail rows that would give you an ending balance, again showing just one time for each account in the report. So you have to ask yourself this question - if I was writing this SQL myself (forget about Discoverer for the moment), how would I write it myself, manually, to get the desired result? Once you know how to code it manually, then that should give you a clue on how to set it up in Discovererer. Hope this helps a bit. Another thought - rather than use Discoverer, maybe look at the Oracle Finanacial Statement generator to handle this? Or maybe come up with some kind of materialized view (that might help performance, since GL detail lines table can get pretty darn large)? Keep in mind with a materialized view you get a non-current view of the data, so that won't work if you absolutely need to query over what is currently in the Oracle base tables. But if this is a once a month thing, you could refresh the materialized view after the period is closed and then the users can run the Discoverer report.

The first run page keeps opening every time I open my home page, how do I turn it off?

When I first downloaded FF 4 on my netbook I got the first run, welcome to FF 4 screen. As usual. But it keeps coming back. Every time I open FF it opens the welcome screen in the first tab and in the second tab is my home screen.
If FF is already open and I want to open my home screen in another tab, it simultaneously the welcome screen in one tab and my home screen in another.
I will not upgrade the rest of my machines to either FF4 or 5 until this is fixed.

A couple of possible causes, you have multiple home pages set, or the preferences file can not be updated. For details on both of those, see [[Firefox has just updated tab shows each time you start Firefox]].

How to make only first entry in table noneditable

then use small button, write some code inside that to edit from the second row onwards.
