Stroke (Outline) Selection grayed out

I would like to outline a selection. After I select it and go to Edit, Stroke (Outline) Selection is grayed out. Please advise.

The selection has to be active. You can determine this if you see "marching ants" surrounding the selection.
Try this:
Open picture files, make your selection with one of the tools, e.g. lasso, selection brush
Go to Layer>new>layer via copy. Now the selection will be on its own layer, but not active - no marching ants
Press CTRL + left click the layer thumbnail for the selection, and the marching ants show up
Go to Edit>stroke. Position inside, use contrasting color vs. background
Please report back with your progress.

Stroke outline selection creates inner shadow - why?

Hi,
this is a typical beginners questions, so please bare with me if the answer is pretty obivous.
I put a few pictures in idividual layers on a canvas and made a simple frame using stroke selection. Then I made the mistake to rescale the pictures, and obviously the frames got scaled as well. So now they are all of different thickness and I would like to correct that by using again stroke outline selection. The only problems is: I get a whole bunch of effects I don't understand:
The following images showes the situation before I click o.k. and apply the settings to the right hand picture:
After clicking o.k. I see that the frame became wider (o.k. so far) but that there is also a brighter line inside the brown border- why? And more over there appears to be a shadow border inside the image, about as thick as the frame - where does this come from?

Thanks for the help so far! I am trying to reproduce in order to better understand whats going on.
1. Upper corner of a jpg image (500% view)
2. Selected by simple mouse cluck. Then outine selection 8 pt inside
3. Image size reduced to 60%
(so far everything as expected)
4. Again select by simple mouse click, then outline seletion again 8 pt inside
and .... result is perfect, as in image 2
I don't get it,
halve an hour ago, when I tried to reproduce I got the artifacts ... really !

Fill and Stroke properties menu grayed out...why? :(

Just downloaded the Adobe Suite 5.5 trial...trying to change my brush size, but can't...made my head hurt. Anyone know what's going on?
Have tried a million keyword combinations to find a solution on google nothing so far...

Hi Roman2011,
Flash has 8 default brush sizes. You can change the brush size by selecting the brush size button in the tool panel while the brush tool is selected. The brush size button is located toward the bottom of the panel if your workspace is set to Essential.
As for the fill and stroke properties menu being grayed out, I am not sure what you mean. Can you please explain further or take a screenshot?

TRIM TO SELECTION GRAYED OUT!!!!

On my iMovie when I select a clip the "trim to selection" option is grayed out. I need this feature and any help to fix this would be appreciated.

This feature works in the Project pane, not the Events pane. You your mouse to drag over the portion of the clip you want to keep, right-click, and select "trip to selection".
If you want to reject footage in an event, use the Reject Tool.

I have adjusted the preferences to MP3 but when I select a specific song to create a new version, the options are grayed out. What else do I need to do in order to convert my previously purchased songs to MP3 so that I can play in my car.

Where is the song you are trying to convert located? Is it of kind Protected AAC?

Infoset - Field selection grayed out for few of them?

I have created an Infoset b/w InfoObject and ODS. Some of Info Object attributes selection is grayed out. In other words I am not able to select them.
Why only few attribute selection is grayed out? Is there any way I can make them selectable?

Airport Express - airTunes setup not selectable - grayed out

Hi, in iTunes, I cannot select my 'air tunes' setup - it is grayed out. I created this a few years ago. I have all other normal internet connectivity through the airport express. It is connected via ethernet to a cable modem.
I cannot find any setting in iTunes to delete the airTunes setting and/or create a new one.

It sounds like you will need to perform a factory default reset on the AirPort Express.
Power down the Express
Hold in the reset button and while you continue to hold the reset button in, plug the Express back in to power
Keep holding the reset button until you see the amber light begin to blink more quickly and then release
Note that when you reset the Express, it broadcasts a network with a default wireless network name like Apple Network xxxxxx, so you will need to log on to that network so that AirPort Utility will be able to communicate with your device.
Then reconfigure the Express again by opening AirPort Utility and clicking Continue to follow the guided setup to reconfigure your Express. You can choose to enable or not enable AirTunes during this setup procedure.

Cannot add new printer, selection grayed out

I have been using a brother MFC-9420CN. I have been sharing this printer with a windows computer over a wireless network. It has worked flawlessly since I hooked it up. After the last 10.4.6 update for the OS the printer no longer works. I first noticed it when I selected print from a menu. The top selection said the printer name but there was a grayed question mark next to it. I opened the printer utility. The printer was there but would not work. So I removed it from the list and went to add it once again. When I clicked on add a new menu popped up. The menu searched for new drivers and then stopped. On the bottom of the menu is three selections. One for name, one for location and one for print using. They are all grayed out. Because there is no selection in the above menu for me to choose. I tried deleting all the brother print drivers in /library/printer/brother folder. Then I reinstalled. Same problem. I cannot selet a printer now. I also tried hooking it up diretly and nothing happened. I then tried the IP printer selection. At the bottom there is a print using selection. It shows the brother cups driver but when selected and then I choose to add it a message comes up that says "An error occured while trying to add the selected printer error code 50" The printer still works over the wirless connection on the windows computer. Thanks for any help...

I found a work around for this matter. Most of the time, I use spotlight to remove anything on the hard drive that has anything to do with "Brother Printers" Then I reload the CD that came with the printer and it works ok. Every now and again if I cancel the print job on the printer the computer will do this hiccup and say there is no printer. This is my work around.

How to use stroke outline in PSE 13

I am trying to use the stroke outline around a picture in PSE 13 and it is greyed out. Can anyone help me with this?

Work in Expert tab
Open the picture file
Go to Select>all
Open a blank layer at the top in the layers palette
Go to Edit>stroke(outline)selection. Enter the px width for the stroke, select the color, and position it inside.

Sender option grayed out in IDOC Adapter PI 7.1

I have heard of IDOC packaging in the PI 7.1 for which we need to create a sender channel in XI and sender agreement.
but the idoc adapter has the sender selection grayed out. Is there any other configuration which needs to be done.

yes you have missed something - exactly what i am not able to guess.........just check whether the SAP BASIS 7.10 component was correctly deployed in your PI 7.1 system because without EHP1 also, at least you should be able to configure sender IDOC adapter............
maybe you need to do the readiness check of your PI 7.1 system again.........try restarting your PI server completely and then check if there is any error in the startup logs.........if there is no error, then again try to configure sender IDOC comm channel in ID.

Outline and Styles option grayed out when composing message in mail

When composing an email message using mail 6.2,I'm unable to view any styles options under the Format option in the toolbar as it's grayed out along with the Outline option. I do have the rich text button selected in my "New Message" toolbar in Mail and the text I want to apply the style changes to are selected.
I need to be able to use options like outline,superscript,subscript,etc. that are available in other email programs like Thunderbird without having to compose my email in TextEdit first,then copying and pasting it into Mail.Permissions have been repaired,and I have all of the latest Apple updates installed. Attached is a screenshot showing the grayed out areas in Mail.

In the five weeks since I posted the question,yours is the first comment(no comment from Apple).
I was able to find a work around for this issue by scouring the web for ideas,so this wasn't my solution.

While the example they make is for highlighted text,follow the guidelines to create other text styles as well.Once you've done that,they're available in Apple Mail.Just be sure to create a name for the each new style.

"Create outlines" grayed out for text-- what is the RIGHT option??

So here's what happened. I created an image for a print template in PS (which I use all the time) and then used file-place to bring the image into the AI version of the template. (I don't use AI very often...) I knew that it might not be a good idea to bring in the text, so I didn't. Instead, I recreated the text in AI, selecting it with the text tool to change font size, etc. Each of the three pieces of text is on a separate outline. The next step is supposed to be to convert the text to outlines, but you guessed it, the "create outlines" option is grayed out.
The text is Titre font (I tried a few others and it didn't seem to make any difference.) The version for both PS and AI is CS5.
I've spent a lot of time searching for the solution online, but the problem is that there seem to be about a gazillion different possible options for what might work. Given the parameters here (created text in AI, selected with text tool, using separate layers), which is actually the RIGHT solution??
This artwork is for prizes for a writing contest (custom mugs), and it's supposed to be in by Wednesday-- HELP is greatly appreciated!!
(P.S.: This isn't my first post!! I'm not sure why the forums are listing it that way.)

No, if you have three separate instances of Type, as it seems, for each of these you have to make sure it is selected in its entirety.

Trim selection is grayed out in imovie

Trim to selection is grayed out in iMovie. I read here on the community, and I think I moved it to Project. But it is still grayed out. It makes the entire app useless for me since the whole point was for me to be able to trim movie clips for inclusion in presentations. The help instructions just tell me to click on "Trim Selection."
FYI, I have highlighted the selection, and there is a yellow outline around it.
