Stroke Text Outside ...

Hi, in CS6 i'm trying to stroke a 12pt text outside. Though that is one of the most basic requirements for graphical design work (text in front of fuzzu stff for example) I'm not able to figure it out nor find it in the docs how and the plenty online posts didn't work right.
Where do I find the buttons for inside / outside / center for the stroke as in this doc ? I never get them no matter what. Not even with a rectangle. ?

The path offset thing doesn't work for me, it created gaps everywhere and is hard to control when I need to re-adjust stuff.
Creating an outline of the text also created the stroke inside.
Does someone know how to outside stroke text or outline in Illustrator ?
Regards,
Frank

ok i just found it, it looks a bit different but is in the stroke flyout of course
Yexy stroking seems to be kinda neglected in Illustrator. It requires outlines to offer aligning he stroke.

can you view text outside of the canvas? as when using the view menu you can see animation paths, bounding boxes and handles???
I'm in the middle of a text animation design treatment and unless my memory is completely failing I thought this was an option.
An example would be selecting all layers and being able to see all bounding boxes and animation paths while moving along the timeline.
Of course this could be quite a mess if you couldn't selectively chose which layers, its just with this current project it would be so helpful if
I could see the text beyond the canvas to aid in my animations.
    many thanks,

thanks for both of your responses
I do understand shift + v " to "Show Full View Area" and shift + z to fill screen, etc.
    and command + & - for zooming
what I'd like to do is selectively view, say, the text outside of the canvas as you can see the bounding box
which contains the text or object when selecting one or all layers in the layers column
I haven't used this feature in a while though I do recall using it in the past.
    Any help would greatly appreciated

  • How to Add text outside a picture

I want to add text, not on a picture itself, but outside of it: on the right or the bottom, several lines.  Thanks

Expand the canvas size:  Image > Resize > Canvas Size.  It gives the option of expanding on any of the borders. In this example I set the background color to light green and expanded the bottom. Then I added the caption with the Text tool (creating new layer) and used the Move tool to precisely position the text layer.

  • [IDCS3 - JS] editing text outside ID

    Hi all
I have to modify the text content of paragraphs outside ID with a text editor and then I have to update the document with the new content.
But if there is a table it do not appears in "textFrame.contents" and deleting the point in the text where the table is placed, causes the loss of the tables.
How can I recognize where the table is placed in the text?
    thanks

In that case, I will have no choice but to decompile the .swf to get the .fla because the original .fla is un-obtainable. Unless there is a way to edit the contents of the .swf file without decompiling it.
I can see the code inside via various decompile tools and it seems that I would need to add the equivalent of <src target=_blank> to some of the lines I have shown below.
obj_xml.load(appurl + "loadconfig.aspx?calendarid=" + calendarid);  -- need to edit this so it opens in a new window using something similar to target = _blank
dest_page = appurl + "default.aspx"; -- need to edit this so it opens in a new window using something similar to target = _blank
I know a lot of decompile tools can get you the code and the .fla but once you edit and re-compile and attempt to replace the original with the new & updated file, the decompiler did not necessarily generate the properly formatted flash pro project file, so compiling it back into an operational .swf often ends in failure.
Do you know or can you recommend a tool that has a very good track record of re-compiling the decompiled modified.fla into a workable and usable .swf?

  • How to stroke text as group w/effects

So, created text -- added warp effect. What I'd normally do is just then expand -- then unite -- then stroke it. But -- I'm sure there's a way where I could keep that text and effect editable while adding a stroke to look as if I united so the stroke follows the group and not the individual letters.
    Thanks so much.

As always, there are several ways to get to the desired result.
Here's how I would do it:
Type text and select all text with the Type tool.
Change the default Fll (Black) to None.
Select the text object with the Selection Tool.
In The Appearance Panel "Add New Fill"
In the Appearance Panel change the Stroke Size and Color.
Move the stroke below the fill.
Add the Warp effect. The order does not matter much, see the 2 examples below.

  • How To Add Text Outside Of The Spread Sheet Grid?

The data in the SS has been entered and saved. I want to add text below the grid as there is room to do so.

    Hello
You may open the Tools palette (with the red suitcase) then select the "huge A" icon to create a text frame in which you will be able to enter text.
An other soluce would be to create a WP or a Draw document, create a SS frame on it, then copy paste your existing SS into the SS frame.
At last, enter text in the free space.

  • Hang Heading Text outside Frame: Can it be done?

We use text frames that only take up half the page width.
Occasionally, I have a top level heading that breaks onto a second line. I would prefer to keep this text on a single line and have it break out of the text frame (either to the right or the left, depending on the odd/even-ness of the page).
I know I can cut/paste the heading into a new text frame, and apply space above the next body paragraph, but:
    this is messy
this breaks the text flow between frames etc
Is there any way I can set a single paragraph to 'break' the border of the text frame?
    thanks

Hit Escape (the entire cell gets selected), hit Escape again (the cell is deselected and the cursor is at the farmost left position), hit Move Left. Now the cursor is in front of the table. Hit Shift+Right twice, or Shift+Down once, to select the table and its hard return.
And then people may ask you to stop hitting your keyboard

  • Can I use iBooks Author as a word processor and sell the text outside of iBooks?  Or does the exclusive license apply even to the text?

I don't know if I want to sell on the iBook store, and I'd rather use iBooks Author than Text Edit or Word or Pages.  I understand that complicated interactive content is what makes iBooks Author special.  But if I create basic text content I could create anywhere, taking advantage of the versioning and iCloud storage iBooks Author provides, do I still own my own writing?

You own your own writing but the license would prevent you from selling it externally if it produced using iBA. You could of course freely give it away, or sell it via the iBookstore. If I were you I'd be using Pages - much friendlier to use (less bugs, more mature) and if you need the extra features you can import into iBA.

no, that works fine, but it doesn't support multiple table handling. I'm using oracle.xml.parser.v2.XSLStylesheet, org.w3c.dom.Document and oracle.xml.sql.dml.OracleXMLSave. I don't know what is causing the problem. I'm really pressed for time, so i decided to use oraxsl and OracleXML putXML and use a stylesheet for each table. that works great.
Another question. i have to call oraxsl with its full qualifying name: oracle.xml.parser.v2.oraxsl for it to work and i have my classpath set right. Do you know why?

  • Text Stroke Options Unavailable, All Black Grads

Can someone explain to me why the hell I have no stroke alignment options available to me for text? See the screenshot below...
I am unable to select inside or outside alignment. Likewise there is nothing showing in the appearance panel for the selected text...
And if I add a stroke to the selected text from this panel I am presented with similarly grayed-out inside/outside alignment options. Moreover, if I try and apply a gradient to selected text it blacks out entirely. I've read elsewhere searching for a solution that I need to rearrange the order of the effects in the Appearance panel. Both (when showing) items like stroke and fill are locked, can't drag to reposition, nor can I select to duplicate to create multiple strokes.
There is nothing fancy about the text. Just straight type. I have followed suggestions to dump the preferences file and have done so. I have gone so far as completely uninstalling Illustrator including shared preferences and then reinstalling. No joy. I've also seen suggestions that the color mode must be in RGB (or CMYK, can't recall) which makes zero sense as that should not limit ability to be able to modify stroke or apply gradients. Regardless, the above holds true in both modes.
What am I missing here? It's pissing me off and I'm sure there must be something simple, but I've changed none of the presets from the re-install and I can't conceive of such fundamental operations being truncated based on a conflict elsewhere.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much.

    Jay,
In addition to what Larry suggested for the Fill, it is actually possible to have the stroke inside/outside: sometimes it is possible to fake what you cannot make (directly):
You may fake the inside/outside alignment as follows:
    1) In the Appearance palette flyout click Add New Stroke (efter the New Fill so the stroke comes on top);
    2) Set the Stroke Weight in the Stroke palette as desired;
    3) Effect>Path>Offset Path by half the Stroke Weight (just the value ( + ) for outside, put a minus first ( - ) for inside).

  • Can you place keyword headings outside the left margin without resorting to using text boxes?

I want to place different keyword headings outside the margins of my document. Is there a way I can do this without resorting to textboxes?

    Hi Eli,
You cannot place text outside the document margins without placing that text into a shape or a text box. Objects, including text boxes and the text they contain, may be placed outside the margins.
Jerry's solution involves moving the left document margin closer to the edge of the table. As you've seen, doing so also adds cmplications to managing text behaviour on the left side of the page.
Here's a variation on Jerry's suggestion that may be easier to manage:
In the Document Inspector, set the left margin to the position at which you want the keyword headings to begin. (0.5")
In the Layout Inspector, set the left margin to make the document margin + this layout margin equal to the position you want for the 'regular' margin fo the body of your document. (0.5" to give the default 1" body margin).
Assuming there is text before the first Keywordheading:
Click immediately after that text, press return to insert a paragraph break, then go Insert > Layout Break to insert a Layout break.
Type the single 'word' "Keywordheading" (without the quotes, and with no spaces), followed by a return, then go Insert > Layout Break to insert a second layout break.
Double click Keywordheading to select it.
Apply any formatting you want (I used a two point larger font size and Bold) for the heading.
In the Layout inspector, set the left margin to zero.
You now have a 'master copy' for your keyword heading, which can be copied, then pasted to each location you want this type of heading to appear.
Select the first Layout Break, the line with 'Keywordheading', and the second Layout break, as shown in the image.
    Copy.
Click immediately after the text preceding the next Keyword heading.
    Press return, then Paste.
    Repeat as needed.
If you have alrady entered the text for these headings, you can use these steps to move them into the keyword heading spaces:
    For each heading:
Select the words that make up the heading. Cut (command-X)
Doubleclick 'Keywordheading'. Go Edit > Paste and Match Style.
    Repeat for next heading.
If you have not yet entered the text for these headings:
    Doubleclick 'Keywordheading' to select it.
    Type the heading.
    Repeat.
Note that after inserting these heaings, you can copy the three lines (Layout break, word(s)&return, Layout break) of any of them, then replace the text of that heading with the text of a new heading.
Within the indented parts between headings, bulleted lists will behave normally.
    Rgards,
    Barry

  • [CS5] How to apply outside stroke to (united) objects without covering them?

    Hi guys,
AI CS5 is brilliant, I love it - that's beyond any doubt. But I found one more issue which I cannot solve...
I want to apply outside stroke (Align Stroke to Outside) on my just outlined copy but it covers other objects.Take a look at this preview.
With CS4 I simply outlined and merged objects by using pathfinder. Also new Shape Builder tool won't work because these objects are all separated. Let me know if you have any ideas to solve this issue
    Thanks!

Well i did not know how you prepared the file so thought you might have the stroke on top.
Above the fill of the characters
below the fill at the character level
    edit
    here it as compound paths

  • Converting fonts with a stroke to outlines screws up the stroke

Ive been having a problem with this for a while now and was wondering what to do about it.
I have some type with a fairly heavy stroke on it. When I convert that to outlines, the stroke gets... what appears to be thicker.. even though I dont think it really is... but the stroke just looks screwed up. How do I get around that?

I did use the lowercase "text" and wasn't causing the distortion in lettershape that Chris shows in the post above. After not being able to reproduce Chris' problem in ID5 or 6, I realized it's because I was not using a fill. When you apply a fill, the outline automatically aligns with the outside. With no fill, it's always centered. So, no conversion problem.
Yes, the counters problem is still present in ID6. Same solution as ID5: after switching alignment to "outside", release path and switch the alignment of the counters to "inside", fill counters with white/paper, group everything. If you can't fill the counters, then place one copy of the outlines (stroke alignment centered), double the stroke width, place a second copy exactly on top, remove stroke and group the two objects.
I did see something else in both ID5 and ID6, besides the "counters problem". In certain typefaces - after switching the stroke to outside" - the lowercase "x" was being rendered with the alignment "inside". In affect, the "X" had developed the "counter problem". Releasing the path and switching stroke to "inside" rendered it properly. Times New Roman PS didn't have the problem, but Times New Roman OTF and Times TT did. Then the capital "T" in Times New Roman OTF also developed the problem, but not with Times TT. It's getting weird.

Also an honorable way to make money IMO.I was using iText before 2004 when the first edition of the book came out ( 4 years or so after the library was first introduced) and it was hard work. PDF is a very complex document format and just using the Javadoc does not really get you anywhere. There are many 'gotchas' in iText and most of the iText tutorials cover only the very basics and pretty much none of the 'gochas'. The book starts off with very simple examples that could be constructed from the Javadoc but then it does move on to the more complex issues. Worth every penny.
