Strokes Not Working

Hi everyone. I am having an issue with applying strokes to images. I have PhotoShop CS5 installed on two PCs, both from the same source download file (part of E-Learning 2 Suite).
On one PC the Edit > Stroke effect works absolutely fine, as evidenced by the first image below. However, on my second PC this has never worked - regardless of stroke size selected it puts the most tiny barely noticeable stroke around it. My way around this has been to right click on the layer, and select 'Blending Options', and apply a stroke from there. However, having worked fine, this has recently started to produced a very ugly effect around the top of the image (see second screen shot).
I have no idea why:
Edit > Stroke doesn't work on one PC.
Why my Blending Option work around on this same PC is now producing horrible results.
To illustrate, I have applied strokes to the same source graphic using my two different PCs:
PC1: Using Edit > Stroke - effect has expected.
PC2: Using Stoke from Blending Options - very ugly top of image (consistent issue regardless of source graphic).
I have tried resetting all tools, but that doesn't do any good. Does anyone have any ideas. Any help would be much appreciated.

It would appear you are correct. In the image above, I added an extra layer, filled it, and put it behind the image. That awful "smudge" effect was still there. Despite spending £100 on a set of artwork the quality is clearly erractic!
On the PC where the Edit > Stoke wasn't working, it would appear the problem was that "Preserve Transparency" was unchchecked. I always left this checked because, to me, it meant that you wanted to preserve the transparent background of a PNG image. Obviously my understaning was flawed!

Dashed Stroke not working on Image Traced image?

So I'm able to use the dashed stroke normally if I create my own lines or shapes, but I'm using an image that I have image traced, expanded, and ungrouped, and I'm able to change the weight of the stroke and the brush but not apply a dashed stroke or a different brush profile, but I'm more concerned with the stroke. I haven't forgotten the gap.. What's up? Does it just not work on image traced stuff?

What tracing method did you use?
If the trace produced compound paths it is likely that you have also got duplicate paths.
You need to analyse the trace to see where the problem lies.
There is nothing about traced stuff that prevents the use of dashed strokes but if there are compound paths be aware that the compounds in their entirety will have dased stokes.
You may need to release compound paths (with the hassle that involves) to get what you want.

Path Stroke not working properly CS6?

Hello, I am using a work path in Photoshop CS6 with maybe 2-300 unique lines. The issue is that when I attempt to stroke the path, only about 80% of the lines get stroked, and some are incomplete or are a slightly different (thinner) width.
Here is what I am doing to get this result: I have linked the path to a blank layer via layer>vector mask>current path, selecting the brush tool, and pressing stroke path in the layer toolbar.
Any ideas? You are appreciated!

Then you should not have applied the Vector Mask to the Layer.

CS3 Outline Stroke not working?

I am using Illustrator CS3 on my mac, and when I use the outline stroke command, no matter what brush i've used for the stroke, it makes right angles. so if i use a round brush and make a line, so it looks like a skinny rounded rectangle - when i do the outline stroke command, i get a rectangle. i know this worked properly for me in cs2, but i'm not sure if it has worked right for me in cs3. any thoughts on what might be wrong? thanks!!

You shouldn't be using Outline Stroke on a live Brush path. Use Expand Appearance. (Often good to follow with the Merge Pathfinder.)
If you just want to outline a uniform-weight path with rounded caps and joins, you don't need the Brush. Just give the path a thick stroke, set its caps and joins to round and *then* use Outline Stroke. (Bugs in CS3 notwithstanding.)

Overprint stroke not working right.

We are in a production environment and have to trap files all the time. Normally it's not an issue but I've noticed my staff are having problems with overprinting colors. I don't know if this is a document setting or preferences problem, or something resulting from a recent update. I am currently running Illustrator CS5.5 (15.1.0 and have all the latest updates).
Here is how to reproduce my problem:
create a (blue) box using the following color: C100, M20, Y0, K0
Overlapping the blue box, create a (magenta) box with this color: C0, M100, Y50, K0
Use the same color for the stroke.
On the magenta box, turn on overprint preview, and enable "overprint stroke".
You will see that the stroke becomes semi-transparent as a simulation of how it will print when the stroke overprints. This is how it should normally work.
Now try this:
Change the stroke on the magenta box from C0, M100, Y50, K0 to C1, M100, Y50, K0 (in other words, change the cyan from zero to 1)
The overprint/trapping disappears entirely!
This happens with other colors as well, and the common denominator seems to be that the overprint fails the moment that any 100% color UNDERNEATH the overprinting stroke is present in the stroke color.
Without the overprint working, we are stuck manually creating stroke intersection objects and jumping through all kinds of hoops where we shouldn't have to.
If there is a setting I've missed or a workaround, please help!!!

This is often hard o explain but since you have a cyan plate then added a precentage to the Magenta the precentage of 1% is process the Cyan plate only runs once through the press and therefore you canot over print sice it makes up a component of the magenta.
The means that the are where the 1% cyan is will separte onto the the cyan plate wjhich can only run once.
Say you sue only two fills and the magenta had a 5% C the cyan plate would look like this
The Magenta plate would loo like this
So thee is no way to overprint it since is is already overprint by being processed so it is doing what it is supposed to do. And of course you cannot6 have 101% Cyan unless you runb it twice.
Multiply is one wa of doing it but not necessarily the best way, the best way would be to run the cyan and magenta mix as spot colors.
There are other ways as well but time consuming so you may not want to even try to accomplish this.Not sure what you would gain with 1% C?

Apply Gradient across stroke not working now?

Updated Illustrator to CC and now my apply gradient to stroke is acting funny (also does it with apply along stroke). First i can't get it to show up unless I find a number it likes (start out with 1 pt, don't see a stoke so increase size 1 pt at a time up to 11 to see it) now the corners have gotten strange, They seem to be missing small patches. Any idea what's causing this? You can see in the image I am not doing anything fancy, it's type and then just to make sure it wasn't a font problem I tried just a rectangle. It seems to be worst with corner set to round joint.

Sorry Larry that didn't fix it. Sent the files to Adobe for review. Anyone elese reproduce this problem?
It's easy to test;
1. create a rectangle
2. add a fill and stroke
3. change the stroke to a gradient and make it big enough to see
4. change the stroke cap to round and cap corner to round join
5. change the gradient to apply gradient along stroke or across stroke
I do this to nearly everything and have been for years...very strange problem
I also just made the same object in CS6 and it worked flawlessly.

Outline stroke not working in CS6

so I just create a straight, uniform line and press Effect > Path > Outline Stroke... but nothing happens
not sure if I'm doing something wrong... or if there is a bug?

the line has a black, 10 pt, uniform stroke on it.... I click the outline stroke command and nothing happens... an fx does appear in the appearance palette, but when I click the Outline Stroke item there nothing opens... every other effect opens a dialog window...

Drop down menu for stroke not working

The menu won't open in a new document I am creating. It isn't highlighted and I don't know why.
I added a stroke line under some text in a pages 09 document and it worked. I just went back to that document and in the text inspector, under graphics, under stroke is the word None and then if I click the drop down menu there are other choices. But in this new document no. I have opened other documents to see what happens and the stroke drop down menu won't work. I don't see what the difference is between the document where it works and the others.
If anyone has a clue, I'd sure appreciate it.

First Keyboard Stroke Not Working

Hi, this is an issue I believe was in play last year. When I first type on my internal keyboard the first keystroke does not appear. For example, if I am typing an email and type "and" it will appear as "nd". This behavior is apparent in all applications and not key specific. After I have typed a few letters the problem goes away. I think this problem was fixed by a software update by Apple in the past but it has resurfaced and is annoying. Would a PRAM reset or some other fix help? Any ideas? Incidentally, this problem has resurfaced for me using my MBP's internal keyboard. I normally use an external keyboard at home and the problem only resurfaced now that I am traveling on vacation without the external keyboard.

Erase 'Last Stroke Only' Is Not Working Correctly

I'm trying out After Effects CC having been working in CS 5.5, and finding that my normal workflow is not working out. I would like to use the clone stamp tool to create a stroke, then use the erase tool with the 'last stroke only' option in order to refine the clone stroke. However, in CC when I use the erase tool for this, the image does not update in the comp viewer, and using undo does not get rid of the erase in the layer window. If I press undo a second time, the whole clone stroke deletes. If I change the preview resolution of the comp viewer then the erase appears in the comp window. If I don't change the resolution but simply advance the timeline cursor by a frame then the erase appears as it should for however long the clone stroke lasts, but refuses to appear on the first frame it was created in. Is all of this a bug or something about the 'last stroke only' option that has changed since CS 5.5?
First image shows how the erased line does not appear in the comp viewer. Second image shows frame 2 where it does suddenly appear.
Using an iMac, OS X 10.8.5, 8gb ram.

What version of iPhoto? Of the OS? what exactly is happening? What have you tried to resolve this? How long have you waited for them to downad? have you looked at http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/photo-stream/ and verified tha tyour set up is correct and looked through the FAQs and troubleshooting tips? Has it ever worked? What has changed since it worked?

Stroke path is not working PLEASE HELP?!?!?!

I am using Photoshop CS6. I am not in quickmask, I am using the essentials pallete I am creating a path not a shape, and I have a new blank layer selected. When I right click on my path, stroke path is available but it just won't do anything. I have been able to get it to work by going to my paths palette and selecting stroke path from there but that is a lot more time consuming, and well call me crazy but I would like this super expensive program to work properly. Please help me figure out what I'm doing wrong. Thank you!

I am having the same trouble with the flyout for the stroke path dialog...I do not get the Brush selection in fact I get nothing at all when I hit the stroke path option.... I have chosen my brush and then chose the pen and then drew my line and right clicked to get the flyout but when I choose stroke path I get nothing....and I am looking for this Stroke path brush selection which never comes up....ALSO I am on a blank sheet with my simple pen stroke so nothing is interfering with my choice..... I can only apply it on an existing stroke but can't draw a new one with the selected profile. In fact if I change the profile to other than the default Uniform I also can't draw a new stroke with any other width than the default 1 point. This doesn't seem normal.
Using SC5 on a PC.

Another question on the same topic.
Once I add a new profile to the list is it possible to put it on top of the list. I need this because the Adobe people decided to put the list in a tiny scrollable window with only a few of the first profiles showing. If there is noting in the interface may be I have to modify some program files settings?
