  • TS1398 Very weak WIFI on my new iPad MD511LL. Tried Apple suggestion, but they didn't work. Signal is variable from zero to two - never shows three 'bars' even on stronger wifi system. Could this unit be defective?

    Just bought it last week. Have synced it with my main computer. It gets WIFI most of the time, but the signal never goes above two bars (curves) even when I'm in a strong WIFI area. Rest of the time it varies between zero bars (no service) to two bars - slow, slow, slow.
    Already did the recommended shutdown and the WIFI on and off suggestions made by Apple. Already compared to other equipment, which receive a solid, strong three bars at all the same locations. Since this is the WIFI only model,quite alarmed at the problem. I need the WIFI to be able to pick up the signals better.
    Could this be an antenna problem?? Behaves this way even when not in any case.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
    You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
    Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
    There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • I have both TimeCapsule and Airport, and run two mac computers in the house on the one network. The airport often can not be found, and the signal is incredibly weak unless in the same room as the modem. Previously our signal was strong and effective.

    The signal has been strong and effective previously and as far as i'm aware that nothing else in the house has changed. We have two apple computers, appletv, an ipad, 2 iphones, time capsule, and airport all running off the same network. If there is product, a configuration or program we can get to help diagnose and or solve any connectivity issue that would be awesome

    The  Powerline adapters mentioned by edex67 are your only hope if you cannot run an Ethernet cable.
    Even if the home and office are on the same electrical circuit, you won't really know how well the Powerline adapters might work until you actually try them out at your location.
    For that reason, it would be a good idea to understand the store's return policy before you buy.

  • I have a internet connection thru a cable modem but the signal is not strong to reach one of other rooms, so i purchased a airport express so how do i connect it to the exisiting modem do i have to install the cd that came with it, the modem is connected

    I have a existing internet connection thru a motorola SBG900 cable modem connected to my imac, i purchased a macbook pro but the signal is not strong, so i purchased a airport express but i dont know how to install it, do i have to install the CD on my macbook pro or the imac.  i live in a four bed room house distance between the imac and macbook pro is around 25 -30 feet.
    Thanks

    Hello:
    This article will give you basic guidance.

  • What and how is the best way to keep the battery strong?

    Im new to owning a Macbook Pro and I was wondering how to make sure the battery stays strong?

    No: draining to near 0% is not advisable. It's best to charge recharging at 20%:
    http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2014/04/ask-ars-the-best-way-to-use-a-lithium-ion -battery-redux/
    For the rest: use it as you please. But don't forget to use the battery every now and then.

  • Using a strongly typed ref cursor doesn't enforce data type

    I am trying to enforce the datatypes of the fields coming back from an oracle reference cursor by making it strongly typed. However, there seems to be no warning at compile time on the oracle side or exception in ODP.NET if the datatype coming back in the cursor does not match. For example here is my cursor and proc
    create or replace
    PACKAGE THIRDPARTY AS
    type pricing_record is record
    BaseIndexRate     number(6,5),
    BaseIndexRateType     VARCHAR2(1 BYTE)
    type cur_pricing2 IS ref CURSOR return pricing_record;
    PROCEDURE getpricingbyappidtest(appid IN application.intid%TYPE, pricing OUT cur_pricing2);
    END THIRDPARTY;
    create or replace
    PACKAGE BODY THIRDPARTY AS
    PROCEDURE getpricingbyappidtest(appid IN application.appid%TYPE, pricing OUT cur_pricing2)
    AS
    BEGIN
         OPEN pricing FOR
         SELECT      somevarcharfield, someothervarcharfield
    FROM application
    WHERE A.appid = appid;
    END getpricingbyappidtest;
    I would expect this wouldn't compile since i am putting a varchar into a number field. But it does. Also if i check the datatype in the reader on the .net side it also is a string. So odp doesn't seem to care what type the cursor is
    here is that code and output
    var schemaTable = reader.GetSchemaTable();
    using (var file = new System.IO.StreamWriter("c:\\_DefinitionMap_" + cursorName + ".txt"))
    file.WriteLine("COLUMN" + "\t" + "DATATYPE");
    foreach (DataRow myField in schemaTable.Rows)
    file.WriteLine(myField["ColumnName"] + "\t" + myField["DataType"]);
    COLUMN     DATATYPE
    BaseIndexRate     System.String
    BaseIndexRateType     System.String
    Does anyone have an approach for enforcing datatypes in a ref cursor? Am I doing something wrong when defining the ref cursor?

    Hello,
    By using a ref cursor you are really using a pointer to a cursor. There is no way I know of to make a compile check of the cursor check unless you want to create a SQL type and cast the cursor to this type and even this wouldn't work in all cases. For instance, I could have function call within my cursor select which could return a varchar (with a number always in the varchar) which would be horribly sloppy but legal and you would expect Oracle to compile it.
    If you are worried about this I would suggest not using ref cursors and go to UDT instead, where there will be more checking (because of a C# equivalence generated object). Oh and BTW, yes the cursor will throw an exception if the data is incorrect, but only at runtime - just like normal Oracle PLSQL.
    Cheers
    Rob.

  • How to get master key for strong composition detail

    Hi all,
    My Offline Database Diagram that I have drawn with JDeveloper uses the cascading delete option in foreign keys. When the master will be deleted, its details should be deleted as well. This has resulted in strong composition relationships between master and details.
    These relationships are covered by ADF BC Entity Associations and View Links.
    But what strikes me is that both AppModule tester and the JHeadstart first-cut application are not able to insert a new detail? They respond with:
    JBO-25030: Failed to find or invalidate owning entity
    I found an article of Steve Muench discussing this topic with a bare BC4J Java sample. How do I get this in my master/details Entity Impl's context? How can I get the key of the selected master in the create() method of the detail (Steve Muench selects the first row in the table)?
    I can't get rid of the strong association relationship in the Entity Association. It is automatically switched on when I switched it off.
    Anyone to help?
    thanks in advance,
    Martijn Peters

    Hi Markus,
    Thanks for your reply. Your hints describe how to manually set up a master-detail relationship at the View Objects level.
    Does this also work for master-detail entity objects that have a strong composition through CASCADE DELETE on the foreign keys in the database?
    What surprises me is that the BC4J wizard uses different approaches for creating a master with details with or without CASCADE DELETE.
    I would not expect different behavior for the create() operation in BC4J. I would only expect different behavior for remove() operations.
    Moreover it is strange that the generated View Objects can not be altered and that we depend on a workaround you described.
    Is their no risk for BC4J corruption when the master is deleted with the BC4J tester and that the database CASCADE deletes the details?
    JDeveloper 10.1.2 provides a pretty tool for designing and maintaining a database schema though an Offline Database Diagram.
    It shows the CASCADE DELETE option on foreign keys as a strong composition in an object oriented fashion.
    The ADF BC wizard is very powerful in making an object oriented abstraction of the database schema.
    However it seems to me that ADF BC does not seamlessly fit regarding compositions.
    Switching on CASCADE DELETE in the database causes master-details pages in JHeadstart to disfunction.
    Need this be improved in BC4J or am I wrong in the implied concepts?
    What Java code can I add in the create() methods of my Entity Object subclasses to get the same behavior of regular master-detail objects creation?

  • How do I make my wireless signal stronger?

    I have an airport extreme wireless router and confgured it today.
    I read everywhere that it was extremely strong and reached everywhere.
    However i have set it up today and I can barely pick it up from the room next door, is there a way to make the signal stronger??

    You're dealing with "flea power."  The Extreme and Express deliver about One tenth of one watt at 100% percent power.  In practical applications, wood framed houses utilizing gypsum wall boards give the best results.  Since metal is a great radio signal attenuator, the more metal that is installed within the walls, the poorer your wifi results will be.  As a crude example, in a wood framed house, you can expect good results up to 30 - 40 feet away, on an interference free channel.  After that, things get dicey.

  • Strong single, have IP, but no routing or network connection

    I have a bit of a dilly of a pickle with a new Extreme N model. I have it set up for pass through on my network, so it gets a DHCP address and passes that same DHCP to the wired and wireless clients. The trouble is coming into the office in the morning or just waking a sleeping machine at random times then the machine will get full set of strong bars for the signal, ipconfig will even show I get an IP and correct routing information set, yet there is no actual traffic or connection for any apps. Sometimes a series of turning airport on/off or joining other networks and back will make the client work, other times a reboot of the client is needed sometimes a reboot of the base station is needed. All while it is acting weird like this, another client can open/wake up and connect just fine. I have tried with NAT on/off, IPv6 all the different settings, firmware up, firmware downgrade
    Any ideas?
