Strong Signal, No Internet, FAQ didn't help

Hi.
I have been using a WRT54G v.6 for three months without a problem. Yesterday, I lost electricity in my house for about 20 seconds. Ever since the power came back up, I get strong signal, but no Internet connectivity, with either a wireless or wired connection to the router.
I know that my cable modem is working: If I bypass the router and plug any of my computers into the cable modem itself, the Internet works fine. None of the settings on the router appear to have changed.
The thing that troubles me is that the router doesn't work with a wited connection to it, eiter.
I have unplugged the router, waited a minute, and plugged it back in. Same problem.
I have hit the "reset" button on the router. Nothing.
I have powered down both the cable modem and the router, then powered both up. Nothing.
My computers are a Dell Latitude D810 running Windows XP and a Mac iBook G4 running Mac OS X 10.3.9. Both have the same problem which occurred at the same time.
Both computers can receive wireless access at the local Internet cafe.
All signs point to the router.
None of the suggestions on the Linksys FAQ seemed to address this issue.
Any suggestions?

how bout try pressing and holding the reset button for 1 min. then turn-off the router and modem. after 5 mins turn the modem back on then the router. if still that doesn't solve the issue. upgrade the firmware of your router. i've just visited the download site of linksys and the latest firmware for this router is 1.01.
have a nice day!

  • FAQ didn't help

    I am using Pages 1.0.2
I am using a newsletter template and somehow I managed to get a blank page in between pages 3 and 4. I can't delete it according to the FAQ directions without deleteing pages 2 and 4 also. I tried to delete the text manually, and the page does disappear, but then page 4 is in single column. I want it in 2 columns. I select everything on that page only, change it to 2 columns, and then ALL 4 pages are in 2 columns.
The only solution I have left is to print it as is, throw away the blank page and give the hard copy to my printer to duplicate. I prefer to print to PDF and send it to our printer electronically as the quality is better.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated, I'm extremely frustrated.
    TIA
    Nancy

    Thanks Dennis,
I tried your suggestions, and here's what happened. I put my cursor at the very top left of the blank page before what I'm guessing was teh section or page break indicator and hit delete on my keyboard, and nothing happened. I hit delete again, and the blank page disappeared and the formatting stayed 2 columns on the following page. I was thrilled until I realized the chart on the page before it was gone and the blue line I assumed was the break indicator was there instead. Here are before and after screenshots.

  • WRT610N Woes - strong signal but dropping internet

So I've had a WRT610N since June 2011 - working flawlessly without having to think about it at all, I just plugged it in and it's been on default settings and never gave us any trouble.
About a week ago the power went out - and it caused the router to reset itself to factory settings. I set it back up with our network name and security and didn't think much of it. After that, we started noticing issues on our phones and the laptop in the kitchen.
I work in the same room as the router, on wifi, and have not had the signal drop once since then - my work laptop is about 3-4 feet from the router. Another PC hard-wired through the router works fine
Streaming over the 5GHz band to the tv, one room over, works flawlessly, as does netflix/youtube/etc on the TV.
Once you get to the kitchen, on the laptop in there (which has been there for months without issue), the wifi is totally flaky. This is maybe 40 feet from the router, through only 1 wall. The signal reports 3-4 bars, and windows always reports 'internet access' for the status of the connection, but the connection regularly drops and you must manually disconnect and reconnect to wifi to regain internet access. It is the same story with phones if you are more than about 20 feet from the router - they have a strong signal, but will regularly drop, requiring you to disconnect and reconnect. Both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands appear to be behaving the same way.
Normally, I would just say the power outage fried the thing and get a new one - but it is working flawlessly at short range, and still giving a strong signal at longer range - just not keeping the internet up.
I've factory reset it multiple times since this started happening. I've tried different settings on both bands, different security, no security, etc. But nothing seems to be helping, which is why I'm posting here - help!
    Thank you for reading.
    Solved!

2 days in and no issues yet - I think we can call this resolved for now.
    Thank you so, so much!

  • Airport Express gives out strong signal and IP address, but no Internet

I'm trying to solve an Airport problem for a friend who has an Airport Extreme (802.11g) and an Airport Express. The base station is connected to a cable modem. The Airport Express is used in WDS mode to extend the wireless network. There are two computers involved: a MacBook Pro and a Dell with Windows XP. The Airport Express is needed to extend the signal into the room where the Dell is located.
It had been working fine but stopped working and went into "flashing orange light" mode. I tried hard reset but that didn't help; I had to reset it to factory defaults to get it to even respond to the Airport utility.
After the reset, and after reconfiguring the Airport Express, the Airport Express cannot provide Internet access wirelessly. Here are the specific symptoms:
    (a) Computers in the vicinity of the base station (both my friend's MacBook Pro and my own MacBook) can get wireless internet access
    (b) The Dell detects a strong signal from the Airport Express (which is only about two feet away from the Dell's USB WiFi adapter) and gets an IP address from it, but no Internet access
    (c) My own MacBook, when next to the Dell PC, also detects a strong signal from the Airport Express, but also cannot connect to the Internet
    (d) If I connect my MacBook to the Airport Express with an ethernet cable, I can access the Internet
I have tried both with and without wireless encryption and it makes no difference: no wireless Internet access from the Airport Express.
Is this a configuration issue or is it a hardware problem with the Airport Express?

You are going to have to give us more information. How were your iMac and iPhones getting internet access before the AirPort Express? How was your equipment wired up before, and how is it wired up now?

  • Networking help.. need a stronger signal through house

I need some advice/help with a network that I’m trying to setup in my house. I need to beable to use my xbox 360, mac mini (g) and macbook pro (n) aswell as my ipod touch(g).
Up until we finished the basement last week, I was running the modem/Linksys wrt54g router on the 2nd floor of the back of the house. I had an Ethernet cable going through the wall into the next room so that my xbox 360 was hardwired. I was able to use the laptop or ipod touch anywhere in the house. Now that the basement is finished, I wanted to move the xbox360 into the basement with the modem/router. It works however the signal is now passing from the basement, mainfloor and to the top floor. I’m getting signal strength of about 35% which isn’t useable.
I went out and bought an airport extreme as its dual band first off but I was hoping it would give a better signal. The mac mini in gets a signal of 35% in g mode and the macbook pro is getting signal of 52% when both of these are on the top floor. I’m frustrated and wondering if maybe returning the airport extreme and getting a d-link that has 3 antennas would be better signal to the top floor or if Im going to have these problems no matter what router I have.
I was thinking of a couple of options:
    1) Getting an airport express for the top floor. Would that give a better signal to the mini or other devices on that floor?
    2) Seeing if there is a way of using the Linksys router I already have as an access point for the mini to improve signal to the top floor (mind you that would be g only)
    3) Move the router and modem to the main floor and get the xbox wireless adapter.
    4) Move the router and modem to the main floor and see if I can use the Linksys router as a bridge or access point in place of buying the wireless adapter
I’m really confused and don’t know what to do…
    Any thoughts or ideas?

The primary problem with attempting to wirelessly extend a wireless network is that if a client is not able to pick up a "good" signal nor will the wireless router. With that said, is it possible to run Ethernet between floors? Ideally you would want something like the following:
o Wired or Wireless (w/built-in Ethernet switch) router connected directly to the Internet modem.
o Have this router provide Ethernet connectivity to wall jacks on each floor that you would want network / Internet access.
o Connect a Wireless Access Point (WAP) to each of these wall jacks to provide wireless coverage in that location.
Again, that would be ideal, but may not be something easily accomplished if you won't be able to run Ethernet between floors.
    So to address your questions:
    1) Getting an airport express for the top floor. Would that give a better signal to the mini or other devices on that floor?
I assume that you will keep the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) in the basement ... correct? Again, the problem here is that the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) will see the same signal strength as any wireless client on the 2nd floor. Although it may be able to extend the AEBS and provide a strong signal, the overall bandwidth will be significantly lower because the AX will not "boost" only repeat the bandwidth which it receives.
    2) Seeing if there is a way of using the Linksys router I already have as an access point for the mini to improve signal to the top floor (mind you that would be g only)
It will be highly unlikely that you will be able to extend the AEBS with the Linksys as very few non-AirPort routers are WDS compatible. Only a very few Linksys models are, like the WRT54G & WRT54GL, but at only certain firmware revision levels.
    3) Move the router and modem to the main floor and get the xbox wireless adapter.
This would probably be a better option if you can't go the Ethernet route I mentioned at the beginning of this reply.
    4) Move the router and modem to the main floor and see if I can use the Linksys router as a bridge or access point in place of buying the wireless adapter
    Again, same problem as #2.

  • Can't get online- even with strong signal- HELP PLEASE!!!

I have an ibook G4 with an Airport Extreme Card. For the past few months I have been able to go online at home, with absolutely no problems. My desktop at home is a PC with high-speed modem and a wireless router connected. I also travel to school on a regular basis and can connect wirelessly there as well. My problem is, that for the past few days, I can't get online at home. I have a strong signal with the airport card, but both Safari and Firefox say "not connected to the internet" and tell me to refer to Network Diagnostics. I can't figure out why I can't get online. I have been at school during this time with the same laptop and have gone online with no problems at all. Not only that, but both my desktop at home, along with another laptop with wireless capabilities can also go online with no difficulties. I am new to Mac's so I don't have alot of knowledge. I am not sure if maybe my Network settings are wrong?? Any advice anyone could give would be sooo helpful. I have been pulling my hair out for days over this!

    Try the following:
    Delete Preferred Network(s)
    - System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Configure
    - In the "By default, join:" pull-down menu, select "Preferred networks"
    - Delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list
    Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
    - Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
    - Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
    - Restart, or log out then back in.
    Add Preferred Network(s)
    - System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Configure
    - In the "By default, join:" pull-down menu, select "Preferred networks"
    - Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
    - Restart or log out then back in.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • I am facing wifi and mobile 2G signal issue after upgrading to IOS 6 from IOS 5 in IPhone 3GS. Please help, restoring setting even didn't helped.

I am facing wifi and mobile 2G signal issue after upgrading to IOS 6 from IOS 5 in IPhone 3GS. The mobile carrier signal as well as WIFI suddenly drops zero and are then restored automatically. Sometimes i cannot conenct to WIFI even standing infront of WIFI router. Please help, restoring setting even didn't helped.

Update: my phone's connecting to the WiFi again. I don't know what did the trick. I did nothing since reinstalling the software. It hadn't worked then, it is now. I tried connecting to my dad's phone's hotspot( he uses a Moto G), and it worked. I then tried connecting to the WiFi at a friend's house, and when I came back home, my phone was able to connect to my WiFi! Is it of any significance that my friend's router doesn't require a password? My issue has been resolved( for now; I hope I'm not counting my chickens before they've hatched). For anyone facing a similar issue, I suggest you try everything I did:
    1. Turn your router off for a minimum of 30 seconds, turn it back on and try connecting.
    2. Click on the WiFi network you are connected to, scroll to the bottom, tap "Renew Lease".
    3. Do a soft and hard reset.
    4. Reset network settings.
    5. Back your data up, erase all content from settings menu, restore from backup.
    6. Reinstall your software( put it in recovery mode).
I am not sure which of the above worked for me. Make sure you try everything. If none of the above works, take it to a genius bar or an authorised service provider. Good luck! :)

  • I get a weak signal with WIFI or 3G on, but a strong signal with EDGE.HELP

I get a weak signal with WIFI or 3G on, but a strong signal with EDGE. This doesn't make any sense! Help!

this happens to me, too. i get 1 bar of 3g but 4-5 when it switches to edge.
i also got this on my old blackjack ii and thought maybe it was just something having to do with that phone, but i guess not!

  • The wireless symbol is present and indicates a strong signal, but I can not connect to the Internet.

The wireless symbol is present and indicates a strong signal, but I can not connect to the Internet.  I'm  on my home network and have never had trouble before.  My iPad is current on all updates. I have tried to reset the network settings, nothing has worked.  I can connect to the internet via my iPhone  personal hotspot and all other wireless devices are operating normally on my home wireless network.

I am also having this issue. My boy just got an iPod 4 touch, upgraded to iOS 6. I have a D-Link DGL-4300 108G Wireless Gaming Router. With the iPod I can connect to the router, get an IP address (either DHCP or Static) and even browse through the menu on the router, but I can't connect to the internet.
With a DHCP IP address the iPod give the error "Not connected to the internet" with the static IP address it takes a long time when trying to connect to a website but then it gives the error "server stopped responding".
Clearly the issue is in some setting in the router. I've tried setting up a filter so that the iPod will always have access based on MAC address. I've tried changing the various wireless connection settings, all to no avail. I would greatly appreciate some guidence here.
