Strongly recommend  a good book for the java web programmer

book name: java for the web with servlets, jsp and EJB
publisher : New Riders
very suitable for beginners ~~~like me 0_O~~~~

Hello guys,
Glad to hear you guys pursuing certification. Upon finishing both books, I still felt like I needed to prepare in some other means. That was when I started taking practice exams online. Those helped a LOT! (I took around 10 exams) They really test you if you know the material... Here are a few links which might be of some help:

  • Please recommend a good sleeve for the pismo

    Hi,
Can any of you loving pismo owners please recommend a good sleeve for our beloved pismos. I'm looking for one that would fit the pismo pretty much like a glove, so it won't slide and then I can put the pismo in an another bag.
Thanks so much for your suggestions!

I bought a perfect sleeve for mine from Timbuktu. This was a few years ago and I'm not sure they carry it anymore (look on eBay?). I see that the manufacturer makes other sleeves that look nice, too, now. Mine fits the laptop like a glove. It's open at the top with two cloth-padded handles and a strap that snaps into place over the middle of the opening. The padding is nice and thick -- about 1/2." I lugged it in my backpack all around Europe for a summer and it came through just fine.

  • Anyone recommends a good book for object oriented programming

I am a college student in computer engineering (Software) and have been programming using Java for over a year. I have become really interested in the design of softwares and the "beauty" of object oriented programming, and thus would like to advance my knowledge about the topic (my university offers an advanced oop class but I would have to wait another 6 months to take it). So my question is, could you recommend me any book that covers the subject of object oriented programming extensively? (I have learned most of the oop I know from "An Introduction to Programming and Object Oriented Design Using Java" by Nino and Hosch.
    Thanks in advance

Some years ago I remember cutting my teeth on OOP using an excellent book by Grady Booch. If it's still in print and has been updated, it may be worth a look. Again it was decent. Also consider picking up a book on design patterns. Good luck.
Edit: I found it, it's called "Object-Oriented Analysis and Design with Applications", and it's in its third edition. You can find it here on Amazon.

  • Recommend good books for learning java?

im using Java How to Program, Deitel&deitel.
    i find it all right.
what do u think about this one?
    can u recommend any other?
    Natasha

There's a lot of online reference available, too:
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/jls/second_edition/html/j.title.doc.html
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/docs/api/index.html
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/index.html
There's links to all the online documentation, as well as to a few recommended books that you can buy, at:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/docs/index.html
As for specific book, sorry I can't help you. I personally learned a lot more Java by browsing through the API reference than I did by checking out coding examples. But that might only be because I already had a decent background in programming when I started. If you start Java as your first programming language, then an example and explanation filled book would be really useful. Like I said, sorry about not being able to provide any solid recommendations.
Hope that helps though. Check out those links, they are pretty useful. The tutorial is pretty helpful sometimes, too.

  • Anyone recommend a good skin for the touch?

I am going to try and pic up 1 at macworld today. I am looking for something that works well and does not add to much bulk to the device.
    thanks

I am very pleased with the ClearTouch Crystal skin. It was easy to apply, the bubbles were simple to eliminate and it can be washed and reapplied.

  • SCWCD for the Java Platform, CX-310-083 Book

    Hi everyone
Can you recommend a good book for SCWCD CX-310-083.
I've search on the web and found a couple:
    1. Head First Servlets & JSP, Second Edition
    2. Sun Certified Web Component Developer Exam Study Guide.
I'm looking for a book which isn't to old, want to buy it.
I also want to know if some recommend going first for the SCBCD or the SCDJWS.

I am currently reading the Head First Servlets and JSP book in preparation for the SCWCD. It's written by Sierra and Bates, they wrote the previous SCJP Study Guide books and Sierra develops some of the exams.
Also, if you find a good book for either the SCBCD or the SCDJWS, please share. The books that are out there for SCBCD seem out dated (cover EJB 2.0).

  • Can anyone recommend any good books on leaning actionscript for flash?

Can anyone recommend any good books on leaning actionscript
    for flash?
    Intermediate level
I have been using flash for about 2 years more as a hobby
than anything else, some websites etc but now I realise I am going
to need to learn more actionscripting to do what I want, I have
come to terms with the simple stuff like goto – basic
variables – load mov – enough to programme up website
    navigation.
I ideally want to learn more about the dynamic side of flash,
mostly for designing user interfaces and websites etc
I’m after a book that doesn’t get too heavy too
fast yet I’m a little past the more basic functions
    Any thoughts?
    Cheers

Just remember that this book is for JC 2.1 not 2.2.1. I have still found this book good for explaining the fundamentals of Java Card development. It just doesn't cover all of the JC 2.2.x API's.

  • Good book for J2EE?

I know Servlets and JSP and i want to enhance my knowledge with programming and also i have to learn structs, ajax.
which is the good book for this.

You can log into http://en.wikipedia.org and search for EJB to see what its about, and read about what that article says about the Spring framework.
Although there are many IDEs out there, I recommended Eclipse IDE because its free and is used by a very large number of professional developers. Also, just reading books isn't much help if you don't have a platform to try things out in. Normally when you are starting out in Java, its recommended that you work with java in a text editor and run code on the dos command line to get familiar with that before moving onto an IDE. If you want to read more on this topic, one links is: http://www.javaworld.com/community/node/4587 Sorry, I'm not going to get into an IDE war on which one is best or more likely to be used by a future employer. I haven't come across any unbiased articles that really stand out on this issue.

  • What's a good book for getting started?

I've been doing web design in HTML and ColdFusion for almost 3 years. It's clear that ColdFusion is on it's way out and I need to learn J2EE/Java/JSP etc. I have a few questions:
Java is a term I've heard associated with C++ and other types of programming as well as Web design. Are the Java/C++ Java and the Web Java basically the same type of language? Is the Web Java and JavaScript the same thing? I'm very confused!
What is a good book for getting these types of questions answered and getting started in J2EE/Java/JSP? There are quite a few variations of script languages out there and I want to make sure I learn the right stuff, ie the stuff that employers are going to be needing.
    Thanks!

Here is a free online version of a good book:
    http://pdf.coreservlets.com/Core-Servlets-and-JSP.pdf
Print it off or read from the screen. Otherwise, there are several good Java books out there. What I would do is go to the bookstore and thumb through a few books. Depending on what type of book you want (example based or theory) find the books that you think would satisfy your learning style. Write down the names and authors, go home and buy them used online at Amazon for tremendous discounts. This way you can buy several versus just one.

  • Regarding Good book for Oracle Service Bus 11g

    Hi All,
What is the good book for Oracle Service Bus 11g in the below list(or You can also specify any book other than from below list)?
1)Oracle Service Bus 11g Development Cookbook
2)Oracle Service bus in 21 days
3)The definitive guide to SOA:Oracle Service Bus,Second edition (or)first edition?
Can yOu help me out which is the good book for OSB?

    Hi Deilby,
    Thank You for your reply.
According to my understanding(I don't know whether it is correct or not),If you want to have full-fledged OSB development,we need to have eclipse.
If you just need to have routing and transformation along with SOA suite development,We can use OSB console .
Can You also look into this below SOA forums thread with SOA-OSB questions? If I have 'Oracle
Service Bus 11g Development Cookbook' , Can I answer all those questions?
    https://forums.oracle.com/thread/2559964?tstart=0
My intention is clear,I want to have full-fledged OSB development information(important components) and that leads to have good exposure to face questions.
Can You help me out to clarify my understanding and recommend the book according to that?
Note: I already worked on SOA Suite.I worked on OSB console. I think whatever we can  do with OSB eclipse development the samething we can do with OSB console along with SOA suite.
    Can You clarify on this?
