Stub j2ee.jar to jms-client.jar?
I'd like to be able to run a JMS client w/ only those j2ee.jar classes relevant to a JMS client. The j2ee.jar file is about 8 MB and contains everything under the sun. It would be nice to have a JMS client jar file under 500 KB that contains only those classes relevant to a JMS client.
Has anyone tried to create a jms-client.jar from the j2ee.jar that contains only the necessary classes to run a JMS client?
thanks
I was able to create a 1.1 MB jar file that can run my JMS client.
First I ran my JMSClient with the -verbose:gc option against the j2ee.jar. With a simple java app I parsed the loaded classes list, copied all these classes to a temp dir and then created the jar file.

What is the relation betweent stubs and client jars?
I'm new to EJB and I was trying to have a stateless EJB A call another stateless EJB B that's in the same JVM but in another EAR? I believe to do this my EJB A needs to have the stubs from EJB B. Correct? How do I generate them using WSAD 5 if anyone knows? Are these stubs that I need part of client jars?
VishalWell I figured it out. For those that need to know the answer when trying to make a call from one ejb to another ejb that's in a different ear you have to get a client jar. The client jar has the remote home and remote interface stubs. The reason you need a client jars so that you can cast your reference after doing a JNDI lookup.
In WSAD (Websphere Studio 5) there is no real functionality built in to create client jar so what you have to do is create an EJB Jar and then delete all classes except for the stubs that I mentioned above. This client jar is then imported into your EJB project as a library jar. Now you can import this package in you EJB session bean and use it to cast you reference.

Manifest to ejb-client-jar ??
Hi,
I have an EAR with an EJB module. Into the EJBmodule.jar my Manifest.mf lists many jars in "Class-path:".
In EJB1.1 it's deprecated (if I understood it well...), can I specify many jars in the ejb-jar.xml <ejb-client-jar> element?? (If yes, how to write them??)
Example:
-- Manifest
Class-path: myjar1.jar myjar2.jar
--> <ejb-client-jar>myjar1.jar myjar2.jar</ejb-client-jar> ?I realized that class-path has not to do with ejb-client-jar... but is this a kind of filter on the client view of beans (i.e. another jar with only stubs and interfaces?? this should be a deploy-tool yield..)?

EJB Client JAR project produces empty JAR
I've built an EJB module in WorkSpace Studio using the "WebLogic EJB Project" type, which is part of an EAR. I created a couple stateless session beans within this project, and then created an EJB Client JAR project using the "EJB Client JAR-->Create EJB Client Jar" menu item on the EJB project's hidden menu.
According to the documentation, exporting an EAR file from the EAR project will cause the client JAR to be generated. I exported the EAR file from the EAR project, and sure enough, it included the client JAR (in /APP-INF/lib/). I extracted the client JAR from the EAR and opened it up to make sure it contained all of the client-side classes. I discovered that the client JAR was empty, the only contents being the MANIFEST.MF file. The interface classes were instead contained in the EJB JAR itself.
How can I get the EJB client code to actually be included in the EJB client JAR?
Thanks,
EricWell I have tried this with 6.1 and first
1. One would expect the jar name to be the name in the ejb-jar.xml -
ejb-client-jar section
2. It outputs the file XXXEJB_Compiled.jar but it is same size as base jar
this is 6.1 sp3
whats up?
Matthew Shinn wrote:
Hi Sanjay,
There is a bug in the documentation. The client-jar name should never be part of the
ejbc command line. Step 3 below should be something like:
java weblogic.ejbc xxxEJB.jar xxxEJB_Compiled.jar
If you have an ejb-client-jar entry in your ejb-jar.xml, the client jar should be placed
in the directory from which you ran ejbc. Make sure that the classes that you want to be
put in the client-jar are not loaded from the classpath. This is very important or your
client-jar won't be created correctly. The client-jar will only contain classes loaded
from the input jar to ejbc. A bug for the incorrect documentation has already been filed
and should be fixed soon.

Hi,

<ejb-client-jar> sub-element of the Sun's <ejb-jar> (EB 2.0 DTD) element of the
ejb-jar.xml to generate the ejb-client.jar. I followed the step as documented
by WebLogic but the files in EJB jars and ejb-client jars are identical. Here
is what I am doing:
1. Build the xxxEJB.jar for my EJB by running the WebLogic.ejbc on the standard
EJB jar file.
2. My ejb-jar.xml file has following line:
<ejb-jar>
<ejb-client-jar>xxxEJBClient.jar</ejb-client-jar>
</ejb-jar>
3. Next I used the following command to generate the ejb-client.jar file
java weblogic.ejbc xxxEJB.jar xxxEJBClient.jar
My xxxEJBClient.jar files consists of exactly same files (with same sizes) as
the xxxEJB.jar file. Only difference is that the xxxEJB.jar file includes generated
java source files for the bean implementation class and home/remote classes.
In my opinion the xxxEJBClient.jar should not contain the EJB implementation classes.
Any experience using the ejb-client-jar for generating the ejb-client.jar?
Thanks,
Sanjay.

Q: Anonymous user and thin client jars
Hi all. I've recently upgraded from WLS 7.0 to WLS 8.1. One of the changes I
did with this was update my java client from using weblogic.jar to wlclient.jar
and wljmsclient.jar (the thin client jars). When I do this and attempt to connect
to my WLS instance anonymously, I get the following message:
SubjectManager not installed
If I either use the 8.1 weblogic.jar or use the thin client jars with JAAS, everything
works.
I'd still like to be able to have anonymous connections to my instance and use
the thin client jars. Is there an additional jar I need to include?
Thanks,
EdHi all. I did some more digging, and it looked like our client code was using
some class wrappers which assumed a JAAS Subject was being used, when it wasn't.
The end result was we were calling into an empty Subject instance. This is what
was causing the error. Pilot error on our part. :)

Smallest JMS Client footprint?
Hi everyone,
I would like to deploy a JMS client applet and avoid downloading the 38MB weblogic.jar
file. The WebLogicThinClient whitepaper gives a few suggestions on how to reduce
the size of the JAR file. After getting the first method to work (using utils.verboseTozip),
I'm left with a JAR file containing 1058 class files and weighing in at a little
over 5 Mb. Is this really the smallest set of files required to support JMS functionality?
Thanks,
Elias
Hi Elias,
I don't know the answer the to all your problems, hopefully someone else
in the newsgroup can contribute here. More in-line.

As a safety precaution: if you plan on disabling the URLClassLoader once
you've got the classes, you may wish to consider including all "Exception"
classes that occur in the same package as any other class you download.
This is in case your tests don't cover all error conditions...

I think you're correct. I'm not sure how to force the URLClassLoader
to find such files. If you find out, please let me know.
In this case, I think this file is only used for localizing client side log messages that
get dumped to stdout, but there are very few such messages. If your app runs,
I think you can safely ignore the "Unable to access..." message.

To narrow down the problem:
Try with the full weblogic.jar in the applet.
Try running as regular client with full weblogic.jar, then with your small.jar.

C/C++ using SOAP as JMS Client ?
Did any body tried C/C++ using SOAP as JMS Client?
You can register any compliant JMS provider as a foreign jms provider in weblogic and then can access the JMS administered objects (destination and connection factory) from the local weblogic JNDI tree.
This blog shows how to configure AQJMS as a foreign JMS provider and then configure JMS adapter to access the jms objects.
http://biemond.blogspot.com/2009/07/using-aq-jms-text-message-in-wls-1031.html
You can use the above link as a reference on how to setup. You will have to modify the Initial Context Factory, Provider URL, JNDI Properties, foregin connection factories and foreign detsinations section to suit activeMQ.
Note: Weblogic does not come inbuild with the required jars to connect to ActiveMQ unlike AQJMS, so you need to ensure that the active mq jms client jars are available in the weblogic's classpath. -
Hi
Where can I get WL JMS client classes? Are they available as free distribution?
Thanks
The server's "weblogic.jar" is also the WL JMS client classes. And yes, there
is no charge for clients. For a smaller jar, see the messages in the
thread "how can I create a smaller jms client jar".

Small weblogic.jar for jms/j2ee clients of weblogic
We are trying to create a smaller footprint for the ~38M weblogic.jar for distribution
to our client applications to use the JMS and J2EE features of Weblogic 7.0sp2.
I attempted to use the whitepaper document distributed by BEA for creating a smaller
jar file, but it did not work. Has anyone else in the user community successfully
created the jar file and if so could they give me some insight on how they did
it.
Thanks,
Ashish
Hi Ashish,
I've personally used the "URL" class loader option with success,
and I know that several customers have also used this option, as
well as the other options for years. Feel free to
post more detail than "it did not work", and I may be able
to help you out.
Tom, BEA
P.S. If 8.1 is an option, you may with to consider using the
thin client jars it supplies.

Missing ejb stubs in client.jar
Hi,
When I deploy me ear file then sunOne will generate a clientEjb.jar for me automatically with the stubs inside.
Now I recently had to change the remote ejb's with local ejb's, but when I now deploy the ear the client jar does not include the stubs, yet then I get a javax.naming. NamingException: invoccation exception. If I include the stubs manually, it works.
Any idea why now suddenly these stubs are not included anymore
Version SunOne AS = Sun ONE Application Server 7.0.0_02
OS = Windows XP
J2EE=1.3
Thank you in advanceHi joyv,
Please post the exception stack trace you observed. That will help to debug the problem further. Thanks.

In applet, how can i got the thin client jar for JMS from weblogic.jar?
who can give it to me?
and, when i used the weblogic.jar coming from weblogic 7sp2 for linux advance server
2.1 as the client jar,i still got a error message that Class (.....Stub.class)is
not found, why? What should i do?That approach is a hack and an absolute nightmare. It never worked
completely. I could not get any support for durable subscriptions etc. You
can add this (Thin JMS client) as a request for new feature (but it should
have been available long time ago).

JMS api jar??? and implementations
Is there a simple JMS api jar??? Kind of like the SAX/DOM in j2sdk1.4, where you can change the implementation. I am very confused on how to get started with a client that is not J2EE. Say I have a swing client. How do I do some JMS??? I would assume, I would use the client implementation provided by the JMS vendor, but I am looking at all the open source JMS vendors at
http://java-source.net/open-source/jms
When I look at the api's there is no ConnectionFactory like in the Java tutorial for JMS. ie. I can't find the apis. I feel like this is a really dumb question, but it can't be that hard.yes, I tried openJMS also. They had this site
http://openjms.sourceforge.net/usersguide/jars.html
and guess what, when you click on the jms jar, it leads you to a page with absolutely no jars.
I also tried uberMQ, and something else. Any JMS setup would be good at this point. I did find a j2ee spec jar from geronimo. Why in the world don't they have one jar that everyone uses instead of everyone typing up their spec jar. This seems like bad way to do it when you want all the companies implementing the same api....I mean, what if I grab a non-spec compliant jms api jar and don't know it.
Anyways, still just trying to get setup with as minimal a footprint as possible.
thanks,

Standalone JMS client in J2EE 1.4 Beta
