Stubborn Mail Messages Creep Back into InBox

I had a ton of emails in my Inbox and I dragged them into their respective folders that I have on the iCloud. BUT after a few hours, they reappear back in the Inbox again. I clean them up again, and a few hours later, back out in the Inbox. That said, it looks like there are duplicate copies of the emails that are in the Inbox in their proper folders, too. And when I drag an email back to the iCloud folder, it does not register a duplicate email in that folder. What is going on?

Using an iPad 3 with iOS 8.1 or 8.2.  The following problem has arisen many times !#%!# I will go crazy culling emails.  At 1st, they appear to be deleted, but then, the count in the email icon will bounce back.  When I look it's true.  They are all back.  Very very frustrating.  Please help.

  • How to move mail from library back into inbox?

I mistakenly selected 'rebuild' and 6 months worth of mail disappeared from my 'inbox.' I did find it in the library~mail~mailboxes~POP~Inbox~Messages. My question is - How do I move it back into my inbox? I'm nervous I might lose something in the process...

laurasackett, the mail in the inbox for my POP account resides in this location:
    Users/Home/Library/Mail/POP account/INBOX.mbox/Messages
I don't know if that is what you are looking for.

  • Grouped mail keeps spilling back into inbox

    hihi all,
i have been using me.com to push all my other domain emails. i am a windows user so to make new groups for organizing my mail i have to login to me.com on safari browser.
anyway, everything was working fine, but a little while ago i noticed my inbox would get corrupt. when i go into my iphone mail program and it says "Loading new messages" it would load a few messages that i have already read and moved into other group folders. so my inbox would have a mix of new messages and some old ones. then when i clear my inbox again, it would again keep loading back other old messages into my inbox.
basically, all my organizing of emails for a few months is useless as everything is being moved back into my inbox.
    why is this happening?
(why is this email thing on iphone so full of problems, it's been one thing after the other... it's supposed to be simple, but it's so buggy and flaky... works sometimes and does weird things at other times... c'mon apple -- fix all the iphone email issues once and for all -- i got the iphone because of email and if you can't get it right i will go to blackberry)

I am having this issue as well. Here are the steps I have taken and it is still going on:
Deleted my ME account from all of my devices
    Deleted undesired emails from icloud
Emptied iCloud junk and trash folders
Checked all my iCloud email settings to make sure trash gets emptied etc.
About 5-15 minutes later there are about 11 emails that keep coming back. This is getting old and if not fixed in a few days will be closing all of my iCloud accounts for good.

  • Mac Mail keeps moving deleted emails back into inbox

How to stop Mail from moving deleted messages back to inbox?

I've had the same problem for several months. I can't archive emails to the archive folder. They keep moving back into the inbox. I have to keep moving them several times before they stay put.

  • In mail, messages are grouped into a subfile of the inbox

In mail, some messages are grouped from the inbox into a subfile of the inbox. How do I separate the messages to be part of inbox? How did they get into the subfile in the first place?

thanks for response. I am referring to inbox on ipad which shows list of messages. In the list of messages in the left column there is one message with a 4 in a shaded box. When I tap on that message, 4 other messages appear that are related responses. I prefer to have those 4 messages appear in the inbox. How did they get in the subfile and how do I get them to appear in the inbox?

  • Mail not showing new mail until I switch out of and back into INBOX

When new mail is downloaded, the messages do not appear in the INBOX until I have moved to (clicked on) another mailbox and then moved back to INBOX. The unread message count reflects the correct number of unread messages until the above procedure has been followed. Similarly, when messages are moved to another mailbox, the messages sometimes do not leave the INBOX list until the same procedure is followed. This is a relatively recent problem (last couple of months, I think). Any ideas?

  • Can't Copy Messages/Mailbox Back Into Mail

    Hi,
Something strange is happening, so I'm hoping someone here can help work it out. This is what I did:
    (1) In Mail, I had a sub-folder (Folder A) on my Mac. It was annoying me (because it was a sub-folder and I wanted to make a full folder), so I ...
    (2) Copied the Folder A.mbox to my desktop and then deleted the sub-folder in Mail.
    (3) I've been trying to move/copy the messages and/or mailbox back into Mail from my desktop but it won't budge. I've tried opening a new folder in Mail to paste the messages into, tried to import them, but nothing works. They're stuck on the desktop in Folder A.mbox.
    (4) the .emlx messages themselves are not corrupted as I can open them individually from the desktop. I can move, paste, copy them everywhere BUT Mail.
Does anyone here have any idea what's going on, and how I can move Folder A back into Mail where it belongs?
Thanks for any help or advice.

Hello, and welcome to the Discussions.
In earlier versions of Mail, each xxxx.mbox folder had its own index (different name for the index in Jaguar and earlier vs Panther. In Tiger, there is only one universal index, spanning all mailboxes -- this was done, most likely, to benefit Spotlight.
Thus, using the Finder, in pre-Tiger OSX, you could place a xxxx.mbox into the Mailboxes folder, and when you next launched Mail, it would find the newly added mailbox, and all would be well.
In Tiger, you can no longer simply move in a new xxxx.mbox, nor replace any xxxx.mbox folder, because the indexing will not recognize it, without an additional step of forcing Mail to reindex ALL mailboxes, by removing the Envelope Index -- you can force this to happen, by finding the Envelope Index file at the root level of the Mail folder, and removing (after having Quit Mail). When you then relaunch Mail, it will announce that is ready to import your mailboxes -- allow this to happen, and it will really only be reindexing all your mailboxes, including any into which you paste the xxx.emlx files, from any xxxxx.mbox folders that have been created with Mail 2.x, or that you have dragged into the Mailboxes folder.
In Mail 2.x, you can import mailboxes from any folder of xxxx.mbox folders (created with Mail 2.x), selecting only those you wish to copy, and these become additional xxxx.mbox folders in the Mailboxes folder, and the Import function takes care of the indexing issue.
    Keep us posted.

  • Corporate Outlook dumps moved messages back into inbox!!

Ok guys, I am the farthest thing from an IT professional so take it easy with the replies and pretend you are talking to a 3 year old! LOL
Anyway, I have been connected to our corporate enterprise service for almost a year and just recently in no particular time frame my outlook will dump already read and filed messages back into my inbox, no rhyme or reason, no particular emails or senders, not particular date - in fact I might get three from 1/1/09 and 10 dumped back in from 12/23/08 - some are even marked as un-read when I know for a fact they have been read!!  It does not happen every time I reconcile either - its VERY random.....so I have had to walk the aisle of shame and IT has disconnected me from the server!
I rely heavily on being able to access my emails at all hours of the day and night (I am in insurance - dont say it, I already know! LOL) and cannot continue being disconnected and I also cannot deal with three weeks of random emails being dumped back into my inbox - it creates issues and a possible E&O for me and my company!
Our IT dept has contacted their Blackberry rep and noone seems to know what the heck is going on - they blame the phone and the ISP, however since I have been disconnected it has solved a separate issue, my Blackberry is not dumping emails and my call log anymore which was happening all the time and to be honest was the least of my worries considering I had 100's of emails being pulled back into my inbox on a regular basis.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE can anyone help me!!??

Hi and welcome to the forums!
I will skip all the insurance sales person jokes I know.

Dumping (Your technical term) in this case meaning deleted?
Go to options, select status, send the file free and file total (if available) numbers.

  • Mail app regurgitates deleted email back into Inbox

Earlier today Mail's dock icon indicated 3 new msges. Having Mail in Full screen mode I swipe to it and to my surprise old msges. from 2009!! were brought out of nowhere back into the Inbox. Having 4 accounts (2 POP, 2 IMAP (both Gmail)), the Inbox now had a total of 130 msges.
How is this possible for old emails which were trashed and deleted (permanent deletion set when Quitting Mail) long ago are revived? Where would this old email be stored?

I am having this issue as well. Here are the steps I have taken and it is still going on:
Deleted my ME account from all of my devices
    Deleted undesired emails from icloud

  • Mail messages disappear from the Inbox, but are still in ~/Library/Mail

    Folks,
I'm encountering a perplexing problem on my parent's eMac; any input would be very much appreciated...here's the story:
Over the weekend, I upgraded my Dad's 1.25GHz eMac G4 to Tiger (it had been running 10.3.9). The upgrade went smoothly, and all seemed well. I applied all the latest Apple Software Updates to get the eMac to 10.4.6, and once again, all seemed well. I performed the usual Disk Utility "permission fixing," as well, and nothing came up that seemed unusual. I did notice that I encountered the "spinning beach ball" a fair amount during routine operations, but I attributed this to the fact that the eMac only has 512MB of RAM (it's going to receive another 512 in a few days), and that I was just being impatient, given that I am accustomed to my own machine, which is a relatively snappy dual 2.5GHz G5 with the full complement of 8GB of RAM. A day or so later, Dad reported that the Mail app was not starting; upon clicking the Mail icon, it simply bounced several times, and then simply stopped bouncing. I looked at the crash logs and found that Mail could not locate a needed file/library located in /System/Library/Frameworks/SyncServices.framework. In addition, I noticed that the iCal app and the Address Book app were also crashing (the icons of each would bounce, just like Mail's, then stop, without the apps actually firing up). The crash logs revealed that those apps were also looking for this mysterious file, which apparently had somehow been misplaced/lost. I used the "Pacifist" program to reinstall the contents of that particular directory (using the Tiger install CD). Much to my relief, once that directory was reinstalled, the apps once again started up and worked normally. HOWEVER, I noticed some odd behavior with the Mail app. The first thing that became evident was that the Inbox did not show all the messages that had been there before. Looking under the ~/Library/Mail/POP-Dad's account/INBOX.mbox/Messages directory, however, it was clear that all the messages were indeed there (in the form of the individual .emlx files). They just did not seem to be displayed in the Inbox of the Mail app. I tried doing a "rebuild" of the mailbox, but this did not result in any additional messages being displayed. Any thoughts?
The other perplexing behavior is this: the Mail app on the eMac can send and receive mail, but, once you click on a newly-received (unread) message, and then go to another mail box (say, for example, the "Drafts" or "Sent" folders), and then return to the Inbox, the message that was just received is no longer displayed/listed in the Inbox. Once again, looking in the ~/Library/Mail/POP-Dad's account/INBOX.mbox/Messages directory reveals that the message IS there (again, in its own .emlx file), but is simply not being displayed in the Inbox. I can click on the individual .emlx files, and they open new windows in Mail, from which you can hit "reply" or "forward," as normal; it just won't display the actual message that was originally in the Inbox. Sent messages, however, seem to be saved/displayed normally.
I've searched through the Mail discussion forum, and while I've found discussions along generally similar lines, I have not located an entry dealing with these particular symptoms. As such, any input/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your time.
    -Javier

Regarding the missing package that you reinstalled with Pacifist, it would have been better to fix the problem by reinstalling the Mac OS X 10.4.6 Combo Update. Actually, you're going to have to do that anyway, as the package you installed came from an older version of Mac OS X and could now be out-of-sync with the rest of the system. Not only that, but if there was something amiss with that package, chances are that something else went awry as well, so you should really reinstall the latest Combo Update. Read the following articles for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:
    Troubleshooting installation and software updates
    Installing software updates
Basically, you should verify/repair the boot volume (not just permissions) before installing the update, and no applications should be running while installing it.
As to the missing messages, the conversion from Mail 1.x to Mail 2.0 is broken. Take a look at the following thread to better understand the problem:
Help! "You need to take this account online in order to download it."
If you see a strangely named Messages-XXXXXX folder within any of the *.mbox folders in the Finder, that means the conversion didn't proceed as it should, so be careful about deleting the old files, as they may contain messages that didn't come through. Better just move them out of there if you wish.
I partially disagree with Allan (and with Ernie, who also has troubleshooted a lot of similar cases and believes the old files could still be troublesome after a successful conversion as well) in that I don't think the problem with Mail 2.0 is the presence of the old files, but rather that, as a result of the improper conversion, there is something wrong with Envelope Index and with some of the converted messages themselves. IMO, the old files shouldn't be a problem if the conversion worked properly. Mail should just ignore those files when it sees a proper Messages folder in the mailbox folder.
The reason you cannot see in Mail some messages for which an *.emlx file exists is precisely that there is something wrong with Envelope Index. Mail will simply ignore any *.emlx file for which a corresponding entry does not exist in Envelope Index. Actually, Mail doesn't look into the Messages folder at all when displaying the mailbox contents, it just loads whatever there is in Envelope Index. If that information is wrong, the information displayed by Mail will be wrong as well; it may refer to messages that no longer exist, ignore messages that do exist, display one message but load a different one when you open it, etc.
Re-creating Envelope Index without cleaning up the mailboxes first would probably fail and it could even make things worse, though. That's what makes troubleshooting these issues harder than it should be.

  • Many of my Inbox emails have found themselves in the Trash. How do I get them back into Inbox?

I always check incoming emails to my bevere@btinternet address through Firefox to delete spam from the spam box and also any that is in the Inbox before letting the good ones through into my Microsoft Outlook.
For some reason a whole lot of good ones have found themselves into the Trash box which I cannot drag back into the Inbox to allow me to get them across to my Outlook.
How can I get the good ones in the Trash box back to the Inbox?

  • After rebuild message database, mail folder come back into English

I rebuild message database for some reason. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/rebuilding-global-database
Then all default mail foler names become English. (They used to be Chinese) These are: Inbox, Drafts, Trash, Archive, Sent, Junk, Outbox.

    Hello,
I am trying to rebuild system database after a DR Scenario by running the below.
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Release>SETUP /QUIET /
    ACTION=REBUILDDATABASE /INSTANCENAME=CORPPLN /SQLSYSADMINACCOUNTS=xxxxxx /SAPWD
    =xxxxxx
It takes me to back to the command prompt as if it was successful.
    However event log says:
Error 2(The system cannot find the file specified.) occurred while opening file 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.CORPPLN\MSSQL\DATA\master.mdf' to obtain configuration information at startup. An invalid startup option might have caused the
error. Verify your startup options, and correct or remove them if necessary.
    Hi,
Error 2 means system cannot find the file specified. Can you make sure about location of master database file.
    plus
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Release>SETUP /QUIET /
    ACTION=REBUILDDATABASE /INSTANCENAME=CORPPLN /SQLSYSADMINACCOUNTS=xxxxxx /SAPWD
    =xxxxxx
In above query why are you going to release folder you must go to SQL Server 2008 r2 folder
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\SQLServer2008R2
I guess script should be like
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\SQLServer2008R2>SETUP /QUIET /
    ACTION=REBUILDDATABASE /INSTANCENAME=CORPPLN /SQLSYSADMINACCOUNTS=xxxxxx /SAPWD
    =xxxxxx
Setup.exe is in SQLServer 2008 r2 folder not in release folder

  • Messages won't stay in trash go back into inbox?

Hi! I am having problems deleting emails. I put them into the trash and when I look they are not there and then appear back in the inbox. I have tried all the usual tricks to get it to work but it won't . I suspect it is one particular email that I don't want to open and I keep getting the spinning ball when I try to delete it and the whole thing jams . I then have to force quit email to get out of it.

Thanks for your help. I did wonder if I should try that. I actually got my husband to delete the email causing the problem from the iPad and clear out other ones for me and that seems to have done the job.
I have also done as you suggested and hopefully it won't happen again. I have in the meantime asked my cousin not to forward these emails to me !!
