Stuck after setting Mouse to Expose all windows

I stupidly set my mouse button to Expose all windows. Now everytime I click it, it either exposes all windows or goes back to one of them. It does not allow me to click anything else, so I am stuck. Who can help?

Found the problem...
I use an application called SteerMouse. In this app, the set up for my mouse's side buttons was still directed to where it had been for Leopard (Applications/Expose.app). I just had to re-direct SteerMouse to the location of expose in SL; Applications/Utilities/Expose.app

  • Expose "all windows" Annoying problem

I spent an hour and could not find another post on this problem. I am running the latest version of tiger and I have an imac g5 pre intel. I love expose and have a different command in all four corners. My problem is that the "all windows" feature continues to pop up when I don't ask for it. It usually happens when I have a few things going on but it should not happen unless I put my mouse in the corner that I specify. I am not even coming close to that corner and it just pops up all of the time and is probably one of the most annoying things I have encountered on a computer. Once it gets started it seems to pick up steam and do it even more. If anybody has some advice I would really appreciate it.
    Thanks

I had this problem right after I bought this machine. Apple replaced the mouse - same thing. It seemed to be fixed for a while - by a system update?, but has recently reoccured. Unplugging and reconnecting the mouse USB from the keyboard will work for a while. So will disabling the expose option in the mouse preferences but, no expose, it doesn't fix the bug. In my case it seems to happen at the end of the day after the computer has been running for hours(?).
This appears to me to be a software problem that Apple has yet to address.

  • Can I Set View Prefs for ALL Windows?

Is there a way in Tiger to set preferences so that ALL Finder windows ALWAYS open to a chosen view? If I want to see all windows in List View, for example, whenever a window is opened or created so that I don't have to reset windows individually, can this be done?

That actually doesn't completely work. I have the same settings for my 10.4 Finder. I also have the highest level directory (ie: the boot drive) set to icon view with Brushed Metal and Sidebar turned off. However, all new folders created on the desktop always begin in Brushed Metal w/ Sidebar view. Also, folders that have been set with Brushed Metal/Sidebar turned off, open with it turned on when first navigated to via the Dock.
In other words, open place your boot drive in the Dock. Set it to icon view with Brushed Metal and set Finder to open folders in new windows. Create a folder at the highest level of the drive. Open it to confirm it has taken the parent folder settings (in this case icon view, with Brushed Metal/Sidebar off). Close the window. Now open it via pop up menu from the drive icon in the Dock. Not only does it open in Brushed Metal Siderbar on view, but also at a different size, and sometime different Desktop location. Only when you manually turn off Brushed Metal at that point will the two versions of the open folder match when navigated to both ways.
This behavior drives me nuts, as I tend to stay in non-Brushed Metal view, in either list or icon. I have several drives, and bop between Dock pop-up navigation, and regular old double click drilling. I'm constantly having to manually set windows to non-Brushed metal view, even after they were created with it turned off. I wish this inconsistency, and the fact that all new folders created at the Desktop begin with Brushed Metal on, were controllable system wide. However, it's been this way in OSX since as early as I can remember. So I doubt it'll ever be addressed.

  • Expose All Windows Closes Imeditately Upon Initiation

Clicking a mouse button or pressing a key to initiate the All Windows feature of Expose causes the animation to start, screen to grey out then immediately it goes back to the desktop as if the button or key was pressed again.
This only seems to happen when more than a handful of windows are open. I've opened 20 or so windows split between minimized and maximized and the issue happens (may seem excessive but it's not only necessary for how I work but this situation is where such a feature really shines).
Closing several windows makes it work again. On rare occasions it will work even with a lot of windows open but for the most part it doesn't.
I've tried changing the keys/buttons associated with expose and it still happens. All other expose features function properly.

Don't know for sure, but the only thing that comes to mind is that your desktop pattern or picture is over something else, and as you hit F9 the top layer reveals the lower level.
So the question is.. what's your desktop picture/pattern? If it's a picture you've made or created, it might could be just small enough to not fill up the desktop but large enough to look like it does, and under certain circumstances, moves out of the way to reveal what's underneath.
And, of course, I could be totally wrong

  • Expose "All Windows" reveals an odd image

Sometimes - not often - when I hit F9 to activate Expose's "All Windows" command, I get a window that I don't recognize. It shows two blue arrows, one above the other. The one on top points left, the one on the bottom points right. Each has a curved tail. This window is not obviously associated with any program that I can tell. Right clicking on it reveals nothing. Left-clicking on it closes it.
Anyone have any idea what it is or how I can figure it out?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Missing Feature in Lion: Expose for all Windows

    Hello!
I've written a feedback to apple, that says it all:
    =================================================
Since Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) there was one Feature removed,
which was a very important time saver for me:
    Expose for all Windows
I'm missing this feature very much. In Mission Control you only see one window completly of every app, the other window are hidden behind. You can't entirely see, what is in that windows behind. There isn't a text Info when you float the mouse pointer over the window.
In Mac OS X 10.6. (Snow Leopard) I loved this time saving feature. I would be so happy and grateful, if this feature were to resurface in Mac OS X 10.8. (Mountain Lion).
Please let "Expose all Windows" return! :-)
    =================================================
What do you think about it? Should / Could Expose return in the next Mac OS X? (I hope so)
    Greetings from Germany,
    Matthias B.

    Hello Rysz and Captfred!
    Rysz:
I already have send this to Apple feedback.
    Captfred:
    There are two problems:
    1. I want to see all windows of all applications at once.
    2. Even the windows seperate a little bit, there are (even with only three Windows) most parts of the windows hidden because of the front window shown.
    Greetings,
    Matthias B.

  • After installing os X, background is stuck to "setting up your mac"

    has this happen to anyone?
After my OS X update, my mac is working hence i am writing this question. But my background screen is stuck on "setting up your mac"..... it's been at least 30 minutes now. I can use everything else on my mac. Please help!

This happened to me yesterday.  I have a MacBook Air and after downloading and installing Yosemite, it was stuck on "Setting up your Mac" all day.
I eventually got in touch with Apple Support and resolved my issue in about ONE MINUTE.  Here's how:
    1.  Power down the computer.
    2.  Plug the computer into a power source.
    3.  Press and hold the following three keys simultaneously: Shift + Control + Option.
    4.  While still holding Shift + Control + Option,  press and release the power button.
    5.  Release Shift + Control + Option.
    6.  Power on the computer.
My computer booted to Yosemite and I've not had a problem since.

  • How to set preference to "show all" open windows in all open applications (until I quit)

how do I set preferences to "show all" windows in all open applications (until I quit the application) ?

Can you explain more what the problem is and what you want to see.
All windows are shown by default, unless you minimize them, so I'm confused at what you are asking.

  • Override F9 on Keyboard to get All Windows?

    Hi there,
So my new work computer has the next track icon on the F9 button on the keyboard. My previous work computer used to let me see all windows when I would hit F9 and I would like to be able to do that again. In System Pref > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard Shortcuts F9 is set up to show all windows but when I press it on the keyboard it still defaults to the next track command. Is there a way to override this and get my F9 = All Windows command back? Thanks!

That works perfectly. Is there a way to make it that I can just press F9 again? I work pretty fast and have all my shortcuts pretty much set to motor memory. It's a jolt to hit F9 and have nothing happen. Would like to just see all windows in one button push.

  • Safari won't open to 'all windows from last session'

Safari is set to open to 'all windows from last session' - but it opens to a blank page.  Not every time, but 75%+.  I usually have multiple tabs open, not always the same ones, and this is slow, annoying and tedious to frequently reconstruct where I left it.
    Any ideas?
I just moved to a MacBook from Windows and I am surprised to have an issue like this crop up so quickly (or well ever - based on Apple's reputation, that is - and all the glowing things my firends and associates have told me)

Open a Finder window. From the menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy / paste the following:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
BTW, if you enable the Develop menu you can empty the Safari cache easily instead of having to go through your user library.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
Select:  Show Develop menu in menu bar
Then from the Safari menu bar top of your screen, click Develop > Empty Caches

How do I set Safari to prompt before closing multiple tabs OR reopen all of the closed tabs when when I relaunch the application?  The "Reopen all windows from last session" is unselectable.

It would seem if your choose "Show my windows and tabs from last time" '''''and''''',
*when you last closed Firefox, you had no web site open (just a blank tab), that it would open just that blank tab
*when you last closed Firefox, you had one or more tabs/web site open, that would allow you to "Restore Previous Session"
    #Have you tried that?
#If so, what is happening in each circumstance when you reopen Firefox?
    '''Restore Previous Session'''<br />
Open tabs are automatically saved when closing Firefox beginning in Firefox 4. To open your last session, after Firefox starts, click History > Restore Previous Session. For this to work

  • How do you set default programs for all users when deploying Windows 8.1?

I have my Windows 8.1 image set up the way I want including the start screen, theme, etc. But how can I set the default programs for all users. Most of out computers are non-touch and I want the desktop apps (e.g. Windows Photo Viewer), not the store apps
to be the default for opening pictures, videos, etc. Can that be done?

Great question, this has been bugging me too!
So, I did some research by using "Set Default Programs" app in Windows 8. Then I ran the super ProcMon.exe tool from Sysinternals.com <Thanks Mark!>
After filtering out the junk, I could see some *interesting* writes to the registry:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.jpg\UserChoice]
    "Hash"="57y87/ogggU="
    "ProgId"="PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Jpeg"
But the "Hash" part had me concerned. I did some internet searching for the hash, and came across a post and a pointer to a blog with some answers.  This is both good news and bad.
    Background:
One of the problems with Windows XP is that any program can come in and party on the entire system. No, I don't want you to put a shortcut on the desktop, install a crappy IE Toolbar, and change the default file association for *.jpg files to your app, I
just wanted to play a stupid game. Since Windows 7, Microsoft has been attempting to block that functionality from the stupid applications, and give them back to the user. Take note of the last line in the ITaskbarList3 interface:
Applications cannot programmatically pin themselves to the taskbar. That functionality is reserved strictly for the user.
Of course that sucks for us IT Pros who may wish to create *default* working environments for corporate images, but there are some tricks we can do.
    Solution:
This blog appears to have the answer:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/mrmlcgn/archive/2013/02/26/windows-8-associate-a-file-type-or-protocol-with-a-specific-app-using-a-gpo-e-g-default-mail-client-for-mailto-protocol.aspx
New for Windows 8 is a dism command: /Get-DefaultAppAssociations that allows you to export a control case from a known good computer. Microsoft the supports importing the exported xml file via GPO. For example, before I changed the file association, .AVI
was pointing to the Modern App, after the change the /export-DefaultAppAssociations shows change to the new app:
    From:
    <Association Identifier=".avi" ProgId="AppXhjhjmgrfm2d7rd026az898dy2p1pcsyt" ApplicationName="Video" />
    To:
    <Association Identifier=".avi" ProgId="VLC.avi" ApplicationName="VLC media player" />
I am still doing some investigation to see if a GPO is required, or if you can inject the association into a local user account. Also, if you do have some Modern Windows 8 Touch Tablets, it would recomend keeping most of the Modern App defaults in place,
perhaps seperate GPO's for Desktops/Laptops vs Tablets?

  • Windows 7 slow to boot after setting up windows backup to additional drive.

I have an issue with windows taking forever to boot after setting up Windows backup.
    PC Setup:
2 Samsung SSD Mirrored for Hardware raid on (MOBO OS/Programs)
2 Seagate 4TB Mirrored for Hardware raid (Data storage)
1 Seagate 4tb HD used solely for Windows backup.  (Have also tried with multiple other drives with same outcome.)
If I have all drives connected without setting up the Windows Backup, system will boot up in 37 seconds.  As soon as I enable the backup to the additional drive, it kills the boot time.  Brings boot time to over 2.5 mins.  Brand new PC, clean
installation, no antivirus or any other software that could be slowing it down.  If drive is just in PC as an extra drive there seems to be no issue, just as soon as I enable the Windows Backup to additional drive. Never noticed this issue on any other
    PC

Log booting process (set it in F8 menu).

  • Setting 'View Options, All Windows', not remembered?

I've just replaced my G5 iMac with a 20-inch Intel Core Duo model and I'm having a Finder problem.
When I go into 'View Options' and change the setting from 'This window only' to 'All windows', it keeps switching itself back to 'This window only'. I'll reset it and it will change the window views for a time, but after the window is closed and I go back to it later, it hasn't remembered that I chaged it to 'All windows" and the items I'm trying to view are all over the place rather than being snapped to a grid or being kept arranged by kind. This is very (VERY) annoying!
    Can anyone help?

If you really want to reset all of your settings for all folders then you can delete all the .DS_Store files. In Terminal, type the following:
    find ~/ -name .DS_Store -exec rm -i '{}' ';'
This will work for all folders in your home folder and will set everything back to the defaults, including window sizes, views, etc. You'll also lose any spotlight comments you added to files. To do the same for the entire disk replace '~/' with '/' (no quotes).
Type carefully. If you get bored typing 'y' after a while and you're sure it's only deleting .DS_Store files then you can remove the '-i' part.
I should have added that then you have to relaunch finder to see the changes.
