Stuck at "Backing up" sync stage for hours and hours.

Hey everyone, thanks in advance for your help.
I tried syncing a 3rd gen iPod touch running iOS 5, an iPhone 3GS running 4.something, and iPhone 4 w/ 5.1.
When I plug in the items they all get stuck at the "backing up" sync stage, or step 2, (its always 2 of__).
I am running Windows 7 and running iTunes 10.5.1.42
Things I have done to try to get it to work:
Uninstalling and reinstalling the latest version of iTunes.
Rebooting the computer.
Totally reset the iPhone 3GS so that there were no media/new apps/ pics. Was told to do this to speed up the process.
"X"ing out this step. Tried clicking on the little "x" next to "step 2" , was told it would discontinue that specific step and move on to the next process.
Letting it sit for 8 hours
This started about 4 days ago, never had a problem with any of these products before.
All of these did nothing.

So I figured it out and just wanted to share the solution in case there is anyone else out there having the same issue.
The moment I plugged in my device iTunes begins to back it up before the syncing begins.
What you have to do is keep your Task Manager open.
When it starts to back up the process AppleMobileBackup.exe*32 will begin. You should immediately end that process, this will speed things up considerably. iTunes will also pop open a window telling you that your backup has failed. This is OK, and obviously expected.
If you do want to actually backup your device then I would reccomend syncing it a few times while ending the back up process, and then syncing it again while allowing the process. I do not know why, but this gets the back up process running much smoother and doesn't take up as much CPU.
In general I would also reccomend closing the "Apple Push"process. This too seems to be taking up alot of CPU.
You will have to shut off the backup process from the task manager every single time you sync your device. Even in the same sitting, if you just added a bit more media, once you press sync the backup process will begin again, so be aware of that.

This may be caused by a corrupt existing backup that needs to be deleted, or by data on your device that is causing the backup to fail. To troubleshoot these, try deleting your last iCloud backup (if you have one) by turning off iCloud Backup in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup, then tap Manage Storage, tap your device under Backups, then tap Delete Backup. Then go back and turn iCloud Backup back on and try backing up again.
If it still won't back up, you may have an app or something in your camera roll that is causing the backup to fail. To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again. If the backup is successful, then the camera roll and/or one of your apps is causing the backup to fail and you'll have to located by process of elimination. Turn the camera roll On and try backing up again. If it succeeds, turn some of your apps to On and try backing up again. If it succeeds again, turn some more apps to On then try again; repeat this process until it fails. Eventually you'll be able to locate the problem app and exclude it from your backup.
In the meantime you can back up your phone to your computer by connect it, opening iTunes and going to File>Devices>Back Up. Also be sure to transfer your purchases (File>Devices>Transfer Purchases). Then set up your new phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iTunes Backup and follow the prompts to restore this backup to your new phone. This will be much faster than using iCloud anyway.

Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
For other music yo will have to get them from you you got them before.

Photos. They are on my macBook, backed up on time machine. Copied them (hours and hours) to external hard drive. They are now in alphabetical order (19,000 of them) NOT IN THEIR EVENTS or date order-and have been taken with different cameras- help!!!!!!

They are on my macBook, backed up on time machine. There are 19,000+ of them, some rescued from a pc crash- which I used the nifty iPhoto to put back into date order.
I want to take them all off my laptop, now............as I need to use it for WORK!!
Copied them (hours and hours) to another external hard drive.
They are now in alphabetical order (all 19,000+ of them) NOT IN THEIR EVENTS or date order. (-They have also been taken with different cameras over the years and some of the generic camera numbering remains.)
I have tried to copy them (only a few as an experiment) one event at a time, but that again "opens up" the Event "folder" and tips them out as individuals and therefore just lists image letters and numbers alphabetically.
How can I copy
the whole library still in "Events" to an external hard drive?
the folders/albums I have already made on to this hard drive?
and how can I add to this back up monthly, again keeping events and folders separate and updated?
Mac is so user friendly - there must be a way.........

UPDATE : I have re-installed from disk, various apps that were no longer functioning such as iLife, iWork etc. So, I now can access my photos again.
Also, I had to re-install all the software for my printer ( Stylus Pro 4880 ) and reset it so the printer is working again.
Photoshop CS4 won't open. I think I will have to get in touch with Adobe as basically, I guess they have a built-in "blocker" which prevents me from opening the app as the license is for only 1 user and having re-installed the OS, there are now, in effect, 2 users ( Me and Me 1, I think ).
So, having added on a new external HD, Time Machine has made a copy of most of the files, folders, apps etc onto the external HD. The internal HD is still nearly full ( 220 GBs out of 232 GBs ).
I am guessing the way to go now in order to free up space on the internal HD is to delete/trash older photos from my iPhoto library and hope that if needed, I will be able to access them on the external HD.
Am I correct ? Please advise before I do something I will regret.

Yes, many people do just that. Copy your iTunes folder to the external drive. Once done, open iTunes with Option held down and select the new location of the library file.

If you mean you accidentally removed the icon for iMovie from the Dock (the array of icons at the bottom of the window), you can add it back easily.
Open the Applications folder (if you open it from the Dock you may then need to click the Open in Finder icon), locate the iMovie program.
Drag the icon for iMovie down to the Dock, somewhere between the icon for Finder and the dashed line toward the right.
Wait for the icons at that spot to move aside, then drop it in.

Will Adobe be applying their Premiere CS6 Sync fix for MP4 and WMV exports to CS5?

I noticed that Adobe FINALLY fixed the sync issue for WMV and H.264 MP4 exports in their latest CS6 release. This is very much overdue. Given that all of us who paid good money for CS5 have had to live with this issue for more than a year, will Adobe be applying the same fix for us?

I also never have had any synch issues with WMV and H.264 MP4 exports (or anything else) in any of the CS versions.

Error -3231 Keeps coming up. I have spent hours and hours on this. Spoken with several people at Apple. Nothing they suggest works. This is so frustrating!!

iMatch error -3231. No matter what Apple suggest, absolutely nothing works. My songs upload to iMath then come to a complete halt at around 1646 of 5086 songs. All my songs are taken from CDs I have purchased in stores, or purchased from iTunes.

The senior advisor was put on after the original advisor got stuck as to what to do. She had advised Deleting all my data and starting again as if I had anew computer. I told her this was out of the question as I had over 4000 photos, plus emails, documents, downlaods etc.
So I was passed to the Senoir Advisor who did much the same as the orher advisors had. We tried to use Migration Assistant but it did not give that as an option. I unplugged the Iomega hard drive to see if that was causing any problems. It uses a Firewire connection. We set up a temporary account, which is where all the data is now. The new account is as if the computer is new and as yet has no settings.
A previous advisor who was very helpful told me that after we had deleted the Lion Operating System that I should ask the next Advisor to "use Migration Assistant in first time setup visit, in order to restore Applications and User Account" .
All of them talked about Time Machine, but no-one including the Senior Advisor seems to be able to fix it. It was bought new from the Apple Store in Southampton in June 2011.
Currently it works sporadically on the three problem Applications. This is not good enough, and although I have contacted the Senior Advisor three times since by email I have had no response. Could it be something mechanical like a loose connection in the heart of the machine? It is driving me mad and taking up hours and hours of my life.

Building takes hours and hours?

My movie is 40 seconds long. I have a 2 Motion pages menu. Building is a 7 % after 1 hour waiting!
Is this normal? Will it take hours and hours?

Animation, Uncompressed 8 Bit or 10 Bit or some other Codec, not DV or HDV when exporting. Bring that into Compressor and compress (or you can send straught to Compressor from Motion) I usually just export all my bits and pieces from Motion as uncompressed than use an encoder

Ipad stuck in preparing to sync mode for hours

I can only sync my ipad on my laptop that is not updated to the 11.0.0 update. On the other laptop and PC it just gets stuck on stage 2 "Preparing to Sync" for hours and does nothing.

In case anyone else has this problem, on Windows 8.1 I had to open up the Control Panel, then type "troubleshooter" in the search box. I clicked "Troubleshooting" and then found "Fix problems with Windows Update" under the System and Security section.

Backing up my Iphone 4S - it has been running the back up in itunes for over 14 hours. Is this NORMAL??

I am backing up my Iphone 4S so, I can transfer all my data, numbers, apps, etc to my new Iphone 5. Although I have synced my 4S with itunes before, and I updated the iOS last week, I have never ran a back-up on it. I have had this phone for over a year, it has about 11 GB of storage used. UGH....It has been running this back up for over 14 HOURS!
Is it normal for it to take this long? If it is, how much longer is the back up going to take?

IIf you previously had items backing up to the iCloud, changing to the new phone will take a while depending on how much data and apps your restoring to the new phone. If your like me with 1,000's of pics and videos, it's gonna take a while. Make sure your phone I plugged in, your on wifi and let it do its things. If you see all your apps updating, then it's doing something. If this is not your issue, then it could be the phone froze up. I have the 6 plus and recently switched from the 5, and it took a long time to restore from the cloud. Restoring from iTunes is quicker I guess, but I didn't have that option at the time and was dying to use the new phone I eaitrd 2 weeks for. Anyways, good luck and I hope I answered something for you.
