Stuck at boot

Hi all,
A half hour ago my MacBook Pro froze at shutdown, forcing me to hold down the power button to shut it down. Upon startup, however, it now gets to this screen and stays there. I can hear the fans spin up for a while, and then they go quiet. Booting with the option key doesn't make any difference, and a shift-boot doesn't seem to affect it either. Any suggestions?
Thanks much for your time.

MacBook Pro - 2.0 GHz - 2GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Grab the latest 10.4.7 update from the Downloads page here at Apple.
Mount the .dmg and extract the .pkg.
Place that on something like a USB drive, or (as I did) on a iPod.
Boot your system using your Tiger install disk.
Connect up your iPod or the USB drive.
Open terminal and run:
/Volumes/[your boot volume name]/usr/bin/open /Volumes/[The volume and path where you put the update]/MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.7Intel.pkg
This will then switch over to the package installer, you can select your boot volume and tell it to do the install.
Reboot your system once that is complete and you should be back to normal.
(At least that I what fixed it for me and a few others per the online article I found about it by googling for "Load of /sbin/launchd, errno 88" which resulted in a hit on a article on a blog off of Washingtonpost.com.)

    Hi,

    Hello @Vikas_Kumawat80,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I understand that you are looking to enable Virtualization on your notebook computer, and I would be happy to be of assistance!
While I do not have any experience with Virtualization, I do recommend taking a look at this resource on How to Enable and Use Client Hyper-V, as well as Run virtual machines on Windows 8.1 with Client Hyper‑V. I am not certain if this processor has hardware virtualization support, it appears that Windows 8.1 pro and enterprise may have built in capabilities.
If you require further assistance on this, you might have to contact Microsoft on the topic.
    I hope this helps!

  • HT4623 My phone is stuck on booting screen!

When i remotely updated my phone , It restarted it and it was stuck on the booting screen. I pluged it into my computer , And it gave me the option to restore , So I just tried to restart it again and it was stuck in booting screen so i decided better to restore my phone than have a brick , So I plugged it back in to my computer and my computer dosent recognize my phone at all. What can I do?

I was able to fix it by putting my phone in DFU mode by holding the sleep button for 4 seconds , and without realeasing the sleep button holding them both for 12 seconds and then without releasing the home button letting go of the sleep button and holding for 10 seconds or until my computer saw it (My phone was plugged in the entire time)

  • Stuck while booting in single user mode. How to go back?

Guys. I'd appreciate your advice very much - this concerns my main system.
MacBook 3,1 with OSX 10.5.? (latest)
Did: activate single user boot in Onyx; reboot
Problem: stuck at boot (apple logo & spinning wheel  on gray background for 2hours+). Persistent across reboots.
No different results for this key combinations: cmd-opt-p-r, power button for 5 sec whilst without battery/cable, cmd-s, C (possibly not recognized due to firmware password) Power button held down from switch-on moment makes the light flash a few times, produces a beep but no improvement.
Interestingly pressing alt lets me choose the os (HD or Leopard install disc) but gets stuck the same way regardless. It boots into Ubuntu tho.
I have a TIme Machine disk that I can restore from, and can read from the internal Leopard HD while in Ubuntu.
So, please: how do I get it to boot? I'd set the nvram bootargs="" but from where...

Sorry, don't know how you'd recover from the apparent limbo you're in, but this would agree with the explanation you already hit upon.

  • Excite 7.7 stuck on boot, and wont rotate to portrait

    hi,
I have at270 which is excite 7.7 bought it from Australia, the first month it was such a great tablet, but recently it started to annoy me,
    - stuck on boot screen (the one that like a straight line, changing color and have bubble), it just stucks there wont go anywhere. I need to wait like a day or so and try to turn it on again, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt work.
    - if it managed to pass the booting, the screen orientation locked in landscape, have tried to turn off the orientation button in the side, and tick the orientation settings.
I have tried to reset it to factory default 2 times, and the problem still persist, any idea why and how to fix it? (and also if possible fix my grammar too, lol)

You'll need to contact Toshiba Australia. They operate separately from Toshiba USA, and this is the Toshiba USA forum.

  • Stuck at boot up

Mac mini is stuck at boot up.  What to do?

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partitirion & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk.
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.

  • My iDevice is stuck while booting!

My iPod touch 2g is stuck while booting, I have tried used the buttons to put it into DFU and out again. Does anyone here know how to get it unstuck? (other than restoring it)

If resetting by holding the sleep and home button for 10sec until the Apple logo comes back again does not work, restoring would be the only other step.

  • Blackberry z10 help | My Mac cannot recognize the phone and my phone stuck at booting %99 for 6 hours nothing happened

My Blackberry z10 , Stuck at %99 Boot , and my Mac OSX doesn't recognize it?. i have latest Blackberry Link Version

The funniest part of the whole situation, Apple Care explained it to me as some kind of feature. The told me how to adjust the time when my computer sleeps and recommend I don't shut it down, let it sleep and "instant wake". I would bet if you called them about your Macbook, they would suggest you just close the lid and let it sleep rather than shutting it down.
Basically shutdown and restart have a problem and the solution is to not shutdown is how they explained it to me. They kept saying buzz words like "instant on" and "fast wakeup". My computer already could sleep and wakeup fast, but now shutdown and restart don't work right. I called them 3 times about it, but since they use these buzzwords, sounds like Lion is meant for a Macbook Air or a Mac with an SSD. If you have a normal hard disk, some of the saving/versions/resume features take too long to be written to the disk on shutdown. And when you start again, it takes a long time to reload the system to it's previous point.
Even if I uncheck the box to reopen windows on next start, it reopens them anyways.
If they can't give me a better explaination or some kind of fix, I will have to go back to Snow Leopard. I use my Mac in a production environment and depend on stability. They assured me before I upgraded that it would be stable and all the new saving and versions features could help my productivity. So far it's not helping me and downright annoying. You need to close all your windows before you close the program... if you have 5 windows open in terminal or textedit... every time you launch, they will launch all those windows. I just really want versions, not resume it seems.
But I can deal with it opening a million windows, just can't take it getting stuck on booting or not shutting down properly. This is a "feature" that should be fixed. LOL

  • Ipod touch 3g 64gb stuck in boot loop

I have an ipod touch 3rd generation 64gb and its stuck in boot loop. how do i fix this?I

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My 5c is stuck in boot loop!

I have only had the phone for 2 months and it is now stuck in boot loop. It is not been jailbroken at all. It first started yesterday and it just kept resetting itself every time i went to press something, so i left it over night and it has worked all day. As soon as i got home it started again, and now is stuck on the apple logo screen and the logo just fades in and out. I have tried everything to make it work, i've tried to put it into recovery mode, i've tried DFU. I've tried to connect it to itunes and it won't even be recognized as a device! Do i need to take it to an apple stockist? and does anyone know what could have caused this? I have only downloaded apps from the app store and don't think i've opened anything i shouldn't have, Thanks!

If you have used DFU mode correctly and you cannot restore it the phone has a hardware problem.

  • Iphone stuck in boot logo but is recognized by itunes

my iphone is stuck in boot logo but it is recognized by itunes, however i cannot restore it because it needs my passcode.
any body know what i can do about this?

    Hello,
Your iPhone is having a problem evidently, i would recomend you going onto your iPhone and holding the power and home button simultaneously for 30 seconds, your computer should then say 'iPhone in recovery mode' from here you need to follow instructions on screen.
    Hope that helps,
    Dan

  • Imac stuck on boot up screen

    Hi all
Right now my computer is stuck on boot up with the gray screen. First I tried the soft boot but nothing happened then I tried to start up From my Snow Leopard Cd and it popped it out of the computer. I do not know what to do next.
    Thank you.
    Sandy

    HI BGreg
I booted up my 10.6 Cd holding down the C Key. It went a second or two and then the CD popped out.
Something else I noticed that I did not mention before was a soft clicking sound that I thought was coming from my back up drive. So I shut the back up drive off and then tried starting up from the Imac again, without the disk. This time I got the question mark on the screen and that the soft clicking sound is coming from my computer.
I would like to try turning the back up drive back on and try your alt/option scenario with my Os cd in my Imac and see what happens.
    What do you think?
    Sandy
Ps.I just printed out the apple note info you highlighted and am going to read and try out soltutions!
