Stuck at mac os x utilites/internet recovery only option when booting up?

Okay I have a macbook pro I bought from someone for $5, I was emptying the trash and this dude goes towards and it and throws it in the garbage can, I ask whats wrong with it, he says he does not know and it only goes to mac os x utilities, when you put internet recovery so i offered him $5 for it even though it is in the trash he accepts and says good luck and he drives off. Their is no disk drives when trying to recover only internet recoevery, when I try Clicking reinstall mac os x it says install information cannot be found, I Need a step to step guide on how to make a recovery hd, The hard drive is in, and their is a disk1 with MAC OS X Base system.

You will need to boot the computer using Internet Recovery in order to install OS X properly. You cannot use the OS X installed by someone else.
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

  • Stuck on mac os x utilities

my macbook pro says it has no start up disk and now im stuck on mac os x utilities with four options to use (time machine) or (install moutain lion) or (use internet for help) or (disk utility).

Use Disk Utility to repair your system disk drive because it sound like it has lost the operating system.
If it can be repaired then install Mountain Lion.

  • How do you reinstall a mac operating system without internet recovery

recently my mac crashed ans woudnt start up correctly and kept stopping a quater way on the loading bars so i got a hard drive and managed to salvadge my file from osx utilities and then my plan was to blank my laptop and start again with only the some inportent files from my hard drive. so i opend the utilities menu on my laptop and erased my hard drive then shut it off.
then when i open it the file with a question marked poped up witch im assuming is because i dont have a oporating system installed.
then once i tried opaning the utilites menu when it was blank and it started to do a internet recovery however a few seconds after that the globe would stop and say "apple/support - 6002f"
i dont think there is any menus i can acses with out a oporationg system so is there anyway i can install one from another computer or from my hardrive as my drive does have a copy of osx on it if so how do i transfer it onto my mac.
    thank you ben

Thank you for checking! We may need to completely reset the device. Are your contacts backed up to google.com/contacts ? How about your pictures? They should be on the SD card.
Here is how to reset the device: http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/devices/knowledge_base.html/63967/
Once complete, check to see if there is a software available to update.

  • Mac book air md711 internet recovery error 2003f

I Hv accidenty delete the partation of mac hdd   Then  we are trying to internet recovery  my mac book air shows me error 2003f   Soo whats i do for recovery

    Try OS X Recovery.
Startup your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys.
From there you should be able to acess the built in utilities to repair the startup disk if necessary, or restore OS X.
Read before proceeding >  About OS X Recovery
Macs no longer come with restore discs.

  • TS3926 Unable to reinstall Mac OSX Lion after internet recovery

Sequence of Events on My Macbook Air
    1. I saw a flashing question mark in the morning on starting my macbook air
    2. I then tried the internet recovery of my Macbook air
    3. The system took me to a recovery partition where my only option was reinstall the OSX lion
    4. I tried following the system till the Mac OSX lion disk selection
    5. I do not see any disk to select and hence cannot proceed.
Any pointers? Is my hard disk gone for good?
    Please advice Urgent!!!!

It's possible that the flash storage is damaged, but first, see if it's working properly. After starting in Internet Recovery, open Disk Utility and tell me if you see Macintosh HD in the sidebar. If so, go to Macintosh HD, open Erase tab and erase the disk. Finally, close Disk Utility and reinstall OS X.
If you don't see it, see if the flash storage appears at the top of the sidebar. If so, choose it, go to Erase tab and erase it. Then, reinstall OS X.
If you don't see the flash storage in Disk Utility or your Mac is in warranty, take it to an Apple Store or reseller

  • Lion internet recovery only shows a spinning globe

I had boot camp on OS X Lion, with Windows 7 installed. I decided that I wanted to install a third OS (Linux) so I used the partioning tool in Windows. I made sure that i partitioned the windows hard drive, so it wouldnt effect my mac side. when I re started the macbook, i had no option to boot in the mac side, the icon was gone, even the recovery was gone, so i booted into windows, only to have it give me a blue screen (which dissapeared too fast for me to read) and the the computer re started, and kept doing it over and over. so i popped in my windows 7 disk, and re installed it on the windows partition of the hard drive and when it was installed i installed my boot camp drivers (I had them on a disk) and it asked me to re boot, so i did, only to have it give a blue screen again. so i installed windows yet again, and extracted the drivers from the disk, and only installed them, but i did not install boot camp. so now i am running windows on my computer, without boot camp, and no mac side. now, part 2 of my problem. when i try to use Lion Internet Recovery, it gets to the spinning globe, but does not give me a progress bar. it just shows a spinning globe for hours, and nothing else, until i get tired and just boot into the windows side and deal with windows. when i go into "Computer" in my windows side, it shows the partition of my hard drive (320 GB) which should be my mac side, but it says that there are no files on it, and the full 320 GB is just free space. what can i do to get my mac side back?

  • HT4718 Internet Recovery only finds other networks instead of mine?

Hi, im trying to run internet recovery on a brand new macbook pro, and the only wifi network that's NOT in the list is my own network! when putting in the name manually it doesnt recognize it. How can this be fixed? pls help!

Most routers have options to select the type of authentication scheme to use. WEP is an older routine so it has been arguably more compatible in the past; however, most modern systems support WPA and WPA2, and this may even show better performance than using WEP. You will have to consult your router's instructions for how to change this setting, but it usually requires selecting WPA or WPA2 from a menu or settings interface, followed by an encryption level and a password. Then you just need to reconnect from your Mac and supply the new password and you should be good to go.

  • After Internet Recovery system won't boot

Completed Internet Recovery of OS X 10.8.X.  When system is booted (iMac), a circle with a slash appears.  Booting with the Option key depressed lists the OS Partition as well as the Recovery Partition.  Selecting either partition results in the circle with the slash being displayed.

Try Mac OS X- Gray screen or prohibitory sign appears during startup.

  • HT1310 Internet recovery is the only option when I reboot holding option button

I followed all the instructions after my MacBook Air crashed and then flashed a folder icon with a question mark.
But when I startup and hold option button, all I get is 'Internet recovery' and the option to connect to a wifi.
    What can I do??

The OS X partition crashed. I recommend you to take the MacBook to an Apple Store or reseller because the disk may be failing.
If you can start up into Internet Recovery, do it. Then, open Disk Utility and check that the drive appears in the Disk Utility sidebar. If so, select it and verify it. If it gives you a problem, try to repair it, format the disk and reinstall OS X.
This may get your MacBook working again, but it's possible that it will fail soon. As I told you, take it to an Apple Store. If you don't have a backup, probably you lost everything

  • Erased my Harddisk, coudnt reinstall Mac Os Lion from internet recovery as it says "Could not find installation information on this Machine"

Hi, i just got this Macbook Pro last October and recently i wanted to have a clean install of Mac Os Lion so i erased my harddisk in disc utilities, and found myself unable to install back Mac Os Lion from the internet.. It says 'Coudnt get installation information on this machine', I don't think my internet is the issue as ive tried installating it in both of my houses :/. Tried asking my friend.. he ended up screwing things up in Disc Utilities. If i recall carefully.. My Disc utilities used to look like this
    500GB Toshiba Harddisk
    -Macintosh HD
    -Disk1
    Mac OX Base System
    but now its just
    500gb Toshiba Harddisk
    -Mac OX Base System
Sorry if i don't know what i'm talking about as i'm quite new to using a Mac and any help would be appreciated, thanks!

The fix is to use Disk Utiilty to make the Lion Partition a tiny bit smaller.

  • Power mac g4 MDD doesn't recognize any CD when booting with C depressed

Hi, I purchased this Power Mac Mirror Door Drive about a month ago on e-Bay. It came with OS 10.4.8 installed, no CD's for OS 10 and a CD with an Orange 9 containing OS 9.2.1. OS 9 was not installed on the machine. I have PhotoShop and Quark that require OS 9. I have tried to follow all your discussions on installing OS 9, keeping OS 10.4.8 intact, but so far this machine will not recognize any bootable CD. The best I've gotten so far is the machine placed one of the attempts on the desk top as an empty CD. I have tried to boot holding down the C key, booted in safe mode, have tried bootable OS 10.2.1 CD's, have tried bootable Software restore CD's (set of four CD's) with OS 9.2.2, Power Mac G4 OS 9.2.2 Install CD, eMac OS 9 Install CD, iMac OS 9 Install, all Gray Labels. So far nothing works. I live on a lake in TN and if this thing wasn't so expensive it would have been a boat anchor by now. I don't have any way to reload OS 10.4.8 or I would try to reformat one of the hard drives and start over. Apple told me that I need the same disks that were shipped with the machine and that they would cost me $180 delivered to my home. But that puts me back to OS 10.2.1 and then I would have to purchase OS 10.4.8 again. How can I get Classic to load on this machine? The CD drive will load a music CD, or a DVD, or a blank CD-R just fine.
    Thanks,
    Tony

    Tony,
The set of 6 restore CD's certainly sound like they're from the right era. The part numbers are very close to those for my MDD, which was on sale at the same time as your dual 867MHz. I have varying numbers from 691-3545-A to 691-3548-A, 691-3600-A (for restore CD 4). The two OSX install CD's come with 691-3956-A and 691-4081-A. All my CD part no's are prefixed with Z, for International English.
Unfortunately the MDD's (at the time of your dual 867MHz MDD and my dual 1GHz MDD came with 4 restore CD's and two OSX install CD's. To get OS9 installed, it would need to be the right restore CD for the Mac.
Unless you're up for a bit of trickery. At no cost. All you need to be able to do is use the three Unix commands "cp", "ls" and "cd".
With the Mac booted up into OSX, open up a Terminal session, make the window bigger if you want. Insert the first PMG4 restore cd.
    In Terminal:
Go to the /Volumes directory (cd /Volumes).
List the directories found there (ls -la)
Two will be the internal disks (20G and 60G if I remember). One will be for the Restore cd (probably called "Restore CD" or something.
go into the "Restore CD" directory. (cd Restore*) Note, if you try 'cd Restore CD', it will error, you would need double-quotes round a directory name with spaces in it, ie. cd "Restore CD".
List the directory contents (ls -la)
In there is a '.images' directory, which contains disk images, including one of OS9. You can't see this folder in the Finder.
Go into the .images directory (cd .images)
List the directory contents (ls -la)
There should be an OS9General.dmg disk image.
You will need to copy this to a directory that you can read (cp OS9* ~/).
It's a 300MB+ file, being copied from cd, so it may take 4-5 minutes.
    Now in the Finder:
    Go to your home directory.
There should be an OS9General.dmg disk image there. You can mount this.
It should have (fingers crossed) a usable OS9 System Folder (and OS9 Applications Folder) that you can use. Copy it to your startup disk. You may have to play around with the System/Finder to get the folder blessed. Then see if you can select it in the OSX Startup Disk system pref. Try a reboot if you feel brave.
I would go through all the other Restore CD's, just like above, looking for useful stuff you can install.
All this means nothing of course, if there are no OS9 drivers installed on the startup disk. But with two disks installed (and other Macs to hand) you should be able to reformat one of the disks (from within OSX) installing OS9 drivers.
Perhaps someone knows of a way to get OS9 drivers installed without having to reformat. I'm sure it can be done, but I have no experience of doing it.
Note, you're still left without an OS9 startup cd, but if all goes well, you're back in OS9. And there would be nothing to stop you putting an OS9 System Folder on each disk.
Let us know what you decide / do.

  • My internet is only connecting when the time capsule is performing a backup how can I fix this? I use the wireless for my computer and not connecting is frustrating.

The airport time capsule 2TB is only connecting to the web when performing a backup, it just started doing this how do I fix it?

That is a weird one.. never heard of it drop out except doing backups.
Reset the TC to factory settings.
    The Factory Reset universal
Unplug your TC/AE. Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. The time is not important.. it is the front LED rapid flashing that indicates you are in factory mode.
    Release reset.
If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have released reset at some point and try again.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
Redo the setup with all short names no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
It should then work fine.. but I need more info if you still have problems.
What modem? Is it a router?
    How is the TC connected?
    Is the computer running Mavericks?

  • OSX internet recovery won't take apple id and password

Hi, I had a virus on my old mac, pre- mountain lion, so I backed it up on an external harddrive, placed it in recovery mode, erased mac HD with disk utility, and tried to download the only option which is Install Mac OS X Lion.  However, when asked for my apple id and password it will not take it.  It says it was not the one used with that computer.  I have always used the same apple id and I have been the only owner of that mac pro.  How do I install the OS or find the correct apple id and pw?

So your early-2011 would have come pre-installed with OS X Snow Leopard. And it appears you were trying to do an Internet Recovery by restarting using Command+Option+R. And for your model Internet Recovery only shows OS X Lion as the OS to install. If you would have had a Mac that came pre-installed with OS X Mountain Lion, then you would see that OS to install.
When OS X Lion came out, did you purchase it from the App Store with the Apple ID you mentioned?
If you have never purchased OS X Lion, you will need to reinstall OS X Snow Leopard from your original SL DVD and update it to 10.6.8 in order to redownload/install OS X Mountain Lion if you purchased ML from the App Store.

  • Install CD stuck in Mac book Pro

I tried resetting my system administrator password with the Install CD, utilities, it seemed to work, but now am unable to eject the install CD and start up from the hard drive. the only start up option it gives me is to start up from the CD or a network. Am I going to have to reinstall the total system? Help!! (fairly new mac book user).

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
When booted from the install disc, navigate to Disk Utility. Do you see your boot disk? If not, or if it's in red letters, it has failed and you won't be able to boot to it.
    Good luck!

  • Airport is always connected yet internet is only working sporadically

    Sup!
I need help! I'm calling upon all MacLovers, Macinado's and Jedi MACsters!
So the stupid airport is connected yet the internet is only working when it wants to. I know right! ahhh! It's working then it's not then it's working bah stupid jerk. I have an iphone that is connecting just fine plus there's another mac user living here with me and they're having no problems. No problems! Just me! Why? WHY!!??
I used to be one of those pc people(you may have heard of them) but about 6 months ago my parents bought me a MacBook Pro and my whole life changed. cue tv smile. I have had no problems and i'm lovin' my MacBook Pro(though I just want to say my Mac sleeps on one side of the bed and I on the other).
Enter the pesky internet connectivity problem and just between you and me it's ruining my faith in Macintosh. It's like i don't even want to bad touch it anymore.
So what can I do? I have all updates and couldn't find anybody else with the same problem. Please help me restore my faith in Mac's oh noble JediMacsters, you're my only hope.
    Thanks
    Soggy

Only started happening in the last 2 weeks, the comp is only 6 months old. I don't disconnect, the internet completely stops working. Airport is still connected yet all the devices that use the internet stop working as if it's disconnected. Skype will suddenly struggle to reconnect. Firefox will say 'looking for website'. Gmail notifer will say there's no internet activity.
All this happens yet according to the airport it's on and working fine. The signal is full black bars when it's working and when it's not working. No change there. There is no pattern either. Sometimes it will stop working for a few minutes other times maybe 10 or 15 minutes. It stops working often and at random times.
I haven't had the opportunity to connect to other networks to se how it performs but considering my iphone and my friends Macbook is connecting without a hitch i'm guessing the problem is my Macbook Pro.
