Stuck at preloading screen after failed reboot from cd

I am stuck at the preloading screen after i got the "something was wrong during reboot from cd message", but now i can't seem to reboot from the cd by pressing "c" after startup, nor go into safemode by pressing "shift" or hardware by "d", i just go onto the preloading screen for 20+ mins and nothing happens...

Interesting new terminology.
What is on this preloading screen ??

    Hi d,
    You can try an SMCReset: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    If that doesn't help, it might be time for a "genius" bar appointment. Was the optical drive working ok? Does the DVD look ok? Is it the proper one for your MBP? What issues were you having prior to this that made you decide to boot from the disc?

  • MBP Stuck at Welcome Screen after hard reboot.

    Hi All,
    I was trying to restart my 2.16ghz MBP last night, and it froze, so I did a hard restart. When I booted it again, it came to the welcome screen. If I go through the welcome screen wizard, it hesitates for a moment, and goes right back to the beginning of the welcome screen.
    I'm unable to boot from the optical drive, nor will it detect my Time Machine drive.
    Any thoughts?

    Can you insert the OSX install CD (#1) that came with the computer? If so, then restart, hold down "c" as soon as it chimes, and then once booted go to disk utility and use it to repair your internal hard disk. Maybe this works for your problem.

  • Macbook stuck in gray screen after removing "loginwindow" from CoreService folder

    Hi, I was troubleshooting why I was getting a login loop on my main admin account and stupidly removed a file by the name of "LoginWindow" in the CoreServices folder into the trash and now it won't go pass the gray screen. Is there a way I could reinstate what's in my trash to its correct folder in single user mode, or a similar work around without doing a reinstall? Hope to get some help. Thanks.

    Restart with the Command and S keys held down and run the following:
    mount -uw /
    mv /Users/username/.Trash/loginwindow /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow
    exit

  • Stuck at grey screen after reboot

    I seem to be stuck at the grey screen after a reboot of my server. Here are the symptoms and I'm wondering if anyone has experienced them before or has some idea of where to look:
    1) Over the last couple of weeks, I've noticed the entire system freezing up for 10-20 seconds. The spinning pinwheel pops up and when my office is really quite, it sounds like either a fan is starting on the system or a hard drive is spinning up. Note that I've turned off all 'spin drives down when possible' in energy savings.
    2) After the 10-20 seconds, a bunch of disk activity occurs and everything goes back to normal.
    I've tried repairing permissions, checking for errors with the drive, etc. I've got two drives striped in Raid 0 (yes, the system is backed up--so I'm not worried about loosing data).
    After a recent software update, I had to reboot it, and that's where it got stuck. Could be something there for some time, but my server usually runs for months at a time, unless an update requires a reboot.
    Thanks for any help or suggestions!

    Could you be more specific about what disks you used to boot with and exactly what programs you ran...
    I cannot seem to get it to boot from the "Admin Tools" disk using the "D" key.
    Also, when booting from the "Mac OS X Server" disk I can access Disk Utility, but do not see Raid Utility anywhwere.

    You should be able to turn off your MBP by pressing the power button down continously for about 5-10 sec. When you reboot it you are going to want to enter into a terminal screen. Hopefully the following YouTube video helps: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKOX72xNmbo

  • How do the application servers connect the new database after failing over from primary DB to standby DB

    How do the application servers connect the new database after failing over from primary DB to standby DB?
    We have setup a DR environment with a standalone Primary server and a standalone Physical Standby server on RHEL Linux 6.4. Now our application team would like to know:
    When the primary DB server is crashed, the standy DB server will takeover the role of primary DB through the DataGuard fast failover. As the applications are connected by the primary DB IP before,currently the physical DB is used as a different IP or listener. If this is happened, they need to stop their application servers and re-configure their connection so the they coonect the new DB server, they cannot tolerate these workaround.
    Whether does oracle have the better solution for this so that the application can automatically know the role's transition and change to the new IP without re-confige any connection and shutdown their application?
    Oracle support provides us the answer as following:
    ==================================================================
    Applications connected to a primary database can transparently failover to the new primary database upon an Oracle Data Guard role transition. Integration with Fast Application Notification (FAN) provides fast failover for integrated clients.
    After a failover, the broker publishes Fast Application Notification (FAN) events. These FAN events can be used in the following ways:
    Applications can use FAN without programmatic changes if they use one of these Oracle integrated database clients: Oracle Database JDBC, Oracle Database Oracle Call Interface (OCI), and Oracle Data Provider for .NET ( ODP.NET). These clients can be configured for Fast Connection Failover (FCF) to automatically connect to a new primary database after a failover.
    JAVA applications can use FAN programmatically by using the JDBC FAN application programming interface to subscribe to FAN events and to execute event handling actions upon the receipt of an event.
    FAN server-side callouts can be configured on the database tier.
    FAN events are published using Oracle Notification Services (ONS) and Oracle Streams Advanced Queuing (AQ).
    =======================================================================================
    Who has the experience and the related documentation or other solutions? we don't have the concept of about FAN.
    Thank very much in advance.

    Hi mesbeg,
    Thanks alot.
    For example, there is an application JBOSS server connecting the DB, we just added another datasource and put the standby IP into the configuration file except adding a service on DB side like this following:

            <datasources>
                    <datasource jta="false" jndi-name="java:/jdbc/idserverDatasource" pool-name="IDServerDataSource" enabled="true" use-java-context="true">
                        <connection-url>jdbc:oracle:thin:@<primay DB IP>:1521:testdb</connection-url>
                        <connection-url>jdbc:oracle:thin:@<standby DB IP>:1521:testdb</connection-url>
                        <driver>oracle</driver>
                        <pool>
                            <min-pool-size>2</min-pool-size>
                            <max-pool-size>10</max-pool-size>
                            <prefill>true</prefill>
                        </pool>
                        <security>
                            <user-name>TEST_USER</user-name>
                            <password>Password1</password>
                        </security>
                        <validation>
                            <valid-connection-checker class-name="org.jboss.jca.adapters.jdbc.extensions.oracle.OracleValidConnectionChecker"/>
                            <validate-on-match>false</validate-on-match>
                            <background-validation>false</background-validation>
                            <use-fast-fail>false</use-fast-fail>
                            <stale-connection-checker class-name="org.jboss.jca.adapters.jdbc.extensions.oracle.OracleStaleConnectionChecker"/>
                            <exception-sorter class-name="org.jboss.jca.adapters.jdbc.extensions.oracle.OracleExceptionSorter"/>
                        </validation>
                    </datasource>
                    <drivers>
                        <driver name="oracle" module="com.oracle.jdbc">
                            <xa-datasource-class>oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver</xa-datasource-class>
                        </driver>
                    </drivers>

            </subsystem>
    If the failover is occurred, the JBOSS will automatically be pointed to the standby DB. Additional actions are not needed.

  • Stuck at login screen after update froze

    Hi everyone, I have a Macbook that is a couple years old and have Leopard on it. Last night, I was prompted to install several updates and then restart my Macbook. I did so and then the updates began to install, but then appeared to stall. I hit the power off button and then turned my Macbook back on again. This brought me to the login screen, but I don't have my Macbook set to require me to login each time I use it. I entered my password and then it went to the blue screen like it was about to bring me to the desktop. But that didn't happen. It brought me back to the login screen, which is where I am still stuck as of this writing. Is there anything I can do? Thanks for your help.

    No guarantee this will solve your problem, but you can give it a try:
    You will need to type some Unix commands. If you are not comfortable with this, I don't know of anything other than a re-install. But if you are careful, you should be OK. I recommend you print this out in a largish mono-spaced font so you don't miss any spaces (or add extra ones). Note that case is important.
    Be careful. Some of these commands are dangerous, since you are going to be root.
    Start up in Single-User mode by holding down the command (Apple) key and the 's' key while you press the power switch. You can let go the keys when you see white text on a black background. When this has finished you will see a prompt ending in '#', although there may be other messages. Type
    /sbin/fsck -fy
    followed by a return, at the prompt and wait a few seconds for 8-10 lines of output. If the last line says repairs were carried out, repeat this command until you get a message 'The volume <yourdiskname> appears to be OK'. Then continue with
    /sbin/mount -uw /
    cd /Library/Preferences
    rm com.apple.loginwindow.plist
    rm com.apple.windowserver.plist
    cd /Library/Caches
    rm -r *
    cd /System/Library
    rm Extensions.kextcache
    cd /System/Library/Caches
    rm -r *
    reboot
    This should now take you to a proper login screen after the normal boot sequence. You should then Repair Permissions by using Disk Utility (in your /Applications/Utilities folder).
    If you get error messages saying files do not exist, just ignore them and type reboot.
    If the above is unsuccessful then you may be able to reinstall OS X using an Archive and Install which does not erase the hard drive:
    How to Perform an Archive and Install
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
    Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
    Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • IPhone stuck in recovery mode after failed update.

    Hi, I have a bad situation here... My iPhone 5 got stuck in recovery mode after I tried to update to iOS 7.1.1 from 7.0.4 and it failed (error code 6). If this was my iPod touch I would just restore it because all I have is music, but this iPhone has all my sisters graduation photos, important photos, important school documents, contacts, app data, videos from concerts. Etc. I was wondering if I could get the photos off the phone before restoring it, because they are important. I know I should've backed up my photos and made a backup of the phone, but I've been really busy with a lot of stuff. So I was just wondering if there is any way to get the photos and app data back. The app data doesn't really matter but the photos do. The device was not jailbroken or hacked in any way.
    If you could help, tell me ASAP.
    -JP

    When your phone is in recovery mode, it's like it crashed.  The only way that you can get it out of recovery mode is by restoring, and this erases all your data as well.
    You can believe what you wish by "reading all over the internet".  This is Apple's technical support forum.  We do know what we're talking about.
    since you have very important photos on your phone, why haven't you been importing them to your computer as soon as possible after taking them?  This is how the phone is meant to be used.  Keeping critical data on only a device which can be easily stolen, dropped and broken is just plain foolish.  Also, did you not back up your phone (as you should be doing with any computer) before attempting any operating system update?  As you've now just painfully learned, updates do not always go as planned.
    I'm sorry for your data loss, but let this be a very important lesson.  BTW, when was the last time you backed up your computer?  I'm sure you have important data on your computer.  Hard drives WILL fail.

    If you can't start up and log in in the usual way, try in safe mode.
    During startup, you’ll see a progress bar, and then the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    Log in as an administrator to carry out these instructions. If you have only one account, you are the administrator.
    ☞ If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
    Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all.
    Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t start in safe mode.
    If you're able to log in, launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    In the Console window, select
              DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
    (not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
    There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
    I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
    In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
    Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report.
