Stuck at white screen MacBook Pro 2011

Hello everyone! I'm currently at a loss of what to do next. I have a MacBook Pro 13" Early 2011 Core i5 with the Intel HD 3000 graphics. When I turn the laptop on, I get the chime and then a white screen. If I wait a minute or so, the screen dims and I hear my mail notifications and i'm able to adjust the volume and brightness with the keyboard buttons. However, it's still just a white screen, I can dim and brighten it with the keys but absolutely NO actual video what so ever. I've tried unplugging the battery, the charger, command+option+p+r, reseating the video connector, reseating ram, etc, any help? Thanks so much!

If you have also tried all the things mentioned in the treads in the More Like This column, it's time to take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.
If you are still under warranty, call Apple tech support.

/ / They have a problem with the owners of several MBP! - You belong to them and you?

Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

My MacBook pro is stuck on white screen after shut down. Now, neither this is turn on nor turn off.

You should be able to turn off your MBP by pressing the power button down continously for about 5-10 sec. When you reboot it you are going to want to enter into a terminal screen. Hopefully the following YouTube video helps: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKOX72xNmbo

  • Macbook pro stuck at white screen.

My macbook pro is stuck at a white screen and doesnt boot. I tried resetting, tried to safe boot by pressing shift, nothing works,. It is stuck in white screen. Pls help.

If you cannot select Recovery HD at startup, problem is serious enough to take the MBP
to the nearest Apple store. They will help to resolve the issue.
Have you tried pressing option key down while starting the MBP?
Probably that has been tried already.

  • 3 week old Macbook Pro 2011 now has dot in middle of screen?

I bought my Macbook pro 2011 Hi-res 15" Glossy - Configured to Order  3 weeks ago from the Apple Online Store. After installing and playing a game this week, I notice that a grey dot appeared in the middle of the screen, especially noticeable when browsing on safari, with a white background.
Is this a dead pixel or stuck pixel? what should I do? What can Apple do?

Do you have access to an Apple Store? If so, take your Mac in for evaluation and ask. We are just fellow users, so we can't speak for Apple.
Pixel problems are a judgement call--Apple will determine what should be done on a case by case basis. If Apple determines that the display is unsatisfactory because of this flaw, you might possibly get a replacement display, especially since your problem is in the center.
    Good luck!

  • Mac pro won't boot: stuck on white screen, HD is new

My HD crashed (I think). Mac pro stuck on white screen for a while, then it goes to a black dos-like screen that says "no disc to boot.
I switched out my HD (I tested on different laptops and it works) and inserted the Mac OSX DVD but now it's just stuck on the white screen. I can't eject my disc either.
I hear 3 VERY small beeps (not the same beeps that states ram is missing/corrupt, which are louder. My beeps are VERY silent).
    Fan works
No apple logo, just all white
    CMD + R doesn't work, C doesn't work, option doesn't work, shift + ctrl + option doesn't work either
    I'm at a loss
    Help?
    Thanks!

What cable do I need to buy to connect my Macbook Pro (2011) to a VGA screen? I tried the "Mini DisplayPort to VGA", but apparently it doesnt fit the 2011 Pro version...
    Help me out please.

    Yes ... minidisplay
But what I do not like in that picture (my personal view, others may think differently), is that there is much plastic around the connectors where the cable must fit.  You may ot may not be able to get the cable to *fully seat* with the adapter.
Other adapters (http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0334087, yes I know this is a DVI) hve no plastic barriers to connections.

Can you start Firefox in [[Safe mode]] ?
You can also do a clean reinstall and download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
You can initially skip the step to create a new profile, that may not necessary for this issue.

    HI,
*"I have opened disk utility top repair disk, but when I click on disc image, repair / verify disk buttons are unavailable to click and S.M.A.R.T status is not supported."*
You need to select "MacintoshHD 10.5.8 not "disc image" in order to run Disk Utility and Verify and if necessary, Repair the disk.
That's why you are seeing this dialog.
*are unavailable to click and S.M.A.R.T status is not supported.*
Also, run the Apple Hardware Test.

  • MacBook Pro 2011 - 15" Core i7 - SSD - Heating, Screen Flickering Issues

    Hello,
I recently brought MacBook Pro 2011 15" Anti-glare High Resolution with Core i7 2.2 G Hz, SSD, 8GB of RAM. I installed Microsoft Office and Angry Birds at this time. I'm facing multiple issues with my first Mac. Is anyone facing these kinds of issues in new MacBook Pro 15" models?
Issue 1: Heating: Fan running on high speed even though room temp is below 60F. No major applications are running at that time expect Office 2011 and web surfing (NOT watching any video) and listening iTunes.
Issue 2: When I log-off from computer, the screen flickers and goes to lower resolution. Also the windows colors changed to different colors. After log-in, I went to System Preferences > Displays. The highest resolution is already selected (1680 x 1050) When I try to change to lower, it changes but still displays different window colors and changing suddenly.
    Troubleshooting Steps:
1.) Shutdown and Disconnected Power Cable (at that time battery is at 65%)
2.) Reconnected Power Cable and Power On the system
    3.) Display shows correctly.
    Unable to Resolve:
1.) Still fan is running on higher speed at low temp (below 60F with no major application running)
2.) Sometimes Display is not showing properly. It shows different color shades.
I scheduled support call with Apple Support and let's see what Apple can do...

I brought my first MacBook Pro 2011 on Day 1, so I can't return it since it won't come under 14 day return policy. I'm taking my Mac to Apple Store to fix all these issues. AppleInsider is also confirmed Disaplay Flicker issue on some of the models that they tested.

Macbook Pro (2011) froze while working, forced shut down, now won't turn on. Grey screen with apple logo and spinning wheel for hours. Help?
Unfortunately do not know the operating system since I never updated anything and I can't get in to it.
    Thanks for your assistance.

If you want to preserve the data on the boot drive, and it's not already backed up, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is not fully functional. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    1. Boot from the Recovery partition or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) Launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
    2. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    3. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.

  • MacBook Pro 2011- Allowed updates to install for iTunes software and Microsoft office (I think).  After rebooting, computer wouldn't progress past grey apple screen with loading circle.

I have a MacBook Pro 2011.  I allowed updates to install for iTunes software and Microsoft office (I think).  After rebooting, computer wouldn't progress past grey apple screen with loading circle.  No progression bar ever appeared.  It just sits and spins.  I tried rebooting with Command + Option + R + P and hearing the chime twice....this did not work.
I also tried Command +Option+R which took me to internet recovery.  From there, I chose reinstall Mac OS X Lion 10.7 but it says my hard drive is locked so I wasnt able to select it.  What do I do???? Help!  I don't want to lose my files and it doesnt appear that I've used Time Machine Back Up.

I you upgraded to OS X 10.8, then use RecoveryHD by holding Command R at boot time (no option) and reinstall OS X over itself that way so your installing  Mountain Lion.
Also Disk Uility can be used to Repair the Macintosh HD parttion.
Also you can use that RecoveryHD to format and install OS X onto a external drive, then option/alt key boot from it and access your files on the non-booting internal drive before erasing, reformatting and reinstalling OS X fresh.
Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive

  • Macbook Pro 2011, Graphic automatic switch - High Res, antiglare screen

I have had a hugh problem with my new macbook Pro, 2011 with High Res, Antiglare screen. The automatic Graphic switching causes the screen to flicker about every 10 seconds when the comuter gets hot. It happens whenever a graphic intents piece of software has been active for some time and I return to the desktop. After two attempts to repair the computer I have installed gfxCardstatus and turned off the systems own autoswitching. This has eliminated the problem. But I hope that Apple will come up with a software update, that will make its own OS capable of controlling the autoswitch for the High Res screen.

Hey andersand! Look, I don't have a definite solution for you but I do have a 3rd Party application that I use to manually switch between graphics cards! It's called GFXCardStatus and you can choose what graphics you want to use from a drop-down menu in your menu bar.
You're right to assume that the graphics switching would cause the flickering and not something else, and I think that using this software would at least reduce the amount of flickering that occurs.
Link here, http://codykrieger.com/gfxCardStatus and when you've installed it a tried it out, tell me if it improves at all. Good Luck!

  • My Macbook pro 2011 suddenly has a really slow bootup. What can I do?

My Macbook pro 2011 suddenly has a really slow bootup. What can I do? I did install a cannon printer upgrade and security upgrade. Not sure if it was something to do with that. Also I tried the disk utility repair and didn't improve anything. I also reset PRAM and SMC.

    1. Try booting in e Verbose mode - press and hold [cmd] + [v] keys just right after the boot chord sounds till you get a black screen and white letters.
if there are some delays in the boot process  -  you should see where the system is stuck.
this mode is not permanent - the next [re-] boot will be normal.
    2. repair permissions. disk utility does fine. Disk Warrior is better.
sometimes after half done updates (it may happen though should not) there are items that are "belonging to someone else"
    3. try  cache cleaner (or there are some other utilities as well - I just like SlCC  more)  http://www.northernsoftworks.com/snowleopardcachecleaner.html - it's shareware though the basic functionality is free for you to use.
Try caches -> deep cleaning (please read the developers site what it does) and select checkmark at all options - reply yes to the requests and after a reboot the next reboot should be as it is intended.
p.s be sure you do have backup
