Stuck Expresscard Slot Cover

Hi all, I've got a question regarding my expresscard/34 slot. I've been travelling a lot lately with my macbook pro, and have recently discovered that the expresscard slot has somehow become stuck open, and I can't figure out how to get the cover to close and protect the insides from dust, moisture, etc. I don't have an expresscard to try inserting and ejecting. Any brilliant ideas?

When ours got stuck I used a paper clip to jiggle it a few times until it closed. You shouldn't need to hook it unless it is stuck a lot worse than ours was. It hasn't happened again.

  • HP DV3 CTO2000 ExpressCard Slot Cover?

After receiving my laptop from service I  noticed a gaping hole where the ExpressCard slot is.  I don't have any ExpressCard devices, so I never used the slot before.   I'm not sure if it was like that before, but I don't think so because I now have had a problem with my SD cards accidentally going into that hole and I didn't have that problem before.
Is there supposed to be some kind of dust cover over that opening?

There should be a cover contact HP and tell them what happened, ask them to ship you one.

  • In need of a Laptop with ExpressCard Slot

    Hi,
I was trying to use the search for finding a laptop with ExpressCard® Slot, but had no luck with that.
If anyone can recommend me a couple of models that carry this port, I'll be grateful.
Due to the hardware I need to use this is a must. No substitution yet for this port.
Thanks in advanced for your input.
    Best regards.
    Ivan.

There appear to be some Tecra and Portege models.

  • Msi GX740 expresscard slot

    Hello.
I just bought an GX740 with core i7 and radeon 5870 but I am having some troubles. Os is windows seven 64 bit premium home.
I use an expresscard for making music (echo indigo IOX expresscard) but it doesnt work fine with the MSI GX740.
The problem is the following :
(Drivers are well installed, many versions have been tried with the same problem)
    - If the card is inserted before booting, the system recognize it well, and I can use it. BUT, after a few second of use, the system will totally hang up and stop responding. The sound playing will be looped. I tried to let it for more than 20 min but nothing unstucked..
    - If the card is inserted when the laptop is already online, it doesnt detect the card but a pci to pci bridge or something and the drivers can't be loaded properly, so I cant use the card at all. Expresscard is supposed to be hotpluggable....
When the system crashes, there seems to be a problem with winio.sys (seen in the event viewer), but thats the only thing I know, because there is no bluescreen so I have no dumps I can check....
The card works fine on other systems with the exact same OS and drivers so I suspect it's something to do with the way the laptop configures the card (irq, adress etc).
Also, I have the latest BIOS and all the drivers are well up to date.
Does anyone has already tried the GX740 expresscard slot, and if yes, does it work?
    Cheers!

    OMG!!
looks like msi learned nothing in the past!
please read it all here: same issue with pr200
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=119513.80
    exact the same problematic.
after 8month of writing email with msi-techsupport & dev team they released a special bios "workaround" version and it worked. (also with this special bios version the expresscard has to be inserted before boot. if removed and inserted again it also does not work with this special bios)
it has to do with bios parameters which are not correctly set for the expresscard slots. it`s definitly a msi failure  and has absolutly nothing to do with the certification of the expresscard.
all expresscards with TI chipset are good for audio use. i`ve also tested with certified cards.
so in short: the result was > msi was only able fix it (partly) with a special biosversion. (problem is sitting in the pci-register values for the expresscardslot
i have all emails saved and can send them out on reqest if somebody needs them for further analysis as i was working on this problem with special pci-register software to show up msi thats their problem. so we were able to fix it for the pr200.

  • Do you need an adapter to plug firewire into an expresscard slot?

    Hi,
I was wondering if you need an adapter to plug a firewire cable into an expresscard slot? also does it accept both firewire 400 and 800? what else does the expresscard slot do?

The expresscard slot does nothing by itself. It is the modern equivalent of the pcmcia or PC card slot. It is an interface that allows you to plug in an adapter card that does whatever function the designer of the card built into it. If you need to connect a peripheral that the MBP doesn't have an interface for, you look for an expresscard that implements the missing interface.

will tell you all about the slot.

I don't think this affects anything, but just wanted to know if anyone else had the same problem or if it is something I should deal with. thanks.

i tested 2 different ram on this slot and it gives me error but the strange thing that
it works very good no problems at all
but i still have one problem why PAT always disapled even if i switch the performance mode to TURBO

  • What version of ExpressCard slot (or other ports) comes in a dv8t laptop?

I have a 1 month old dv8t-1200.  My current question: is the ExpressCard slot that comes in the dv8 model line a version 1 or 2 of the ExpressCard standard?  I'm hoping to buy an ExpressCard pretty soon to provide a couple USB 3 ports, but if the slot is only version 1 (2.5 Gbps) then it won't be able to provide USB 3 speeds even if the card could do it.  Does anyone know (a) what version the dv8's slot is, and (b) is there anywhere on the HP site that provides this info?  I called tech support tonight and, although she tried to be helpful, the tech was clearly not supported by HP technical materials.  She was googling to figure out the answer.  And I was not at all convinced she knew what she was claiming (she never answered my repeated question of 'what site did you find that on?', so I finally said "thanks, good night" and figured I'd try to find the answer somewhere else.  Given that the laptop has only USB 2 and FW 400 (both significant disappointments), I'm guessing the answer to my question is ExpressCard version 1.  But I'm hoping someone knows better.  Else maybe I'll buy a card and try it out, to see what speeds I get.
Both before purchase and after, it's been difficult to find a straightforward listing of information on the HP site about what the specs are for things like this.  Does anyone know of a reliable source for the details that HP leaves out of the published specs for each model line?  Or am I missing some source of good information that they provide?
    Thanks much!

Too bad no one else figured this out first.  I bought a 1 TB Western Digital Passport Essentials SE (USB 3.0) today along with an IOGear USB 3.0 ExpressCard.  When the Passport's plug is firmly seated in the EC and the EC is powered, the maximum sustained transfer rate I got was 38 MB/s (on big files, around 1GB) although 25 MB/s was more common.  On the eSATA/USB 2.0 port, the same drive and files got 15-17 MB/s.
There are bound to be a number of speed losses along the way, but I didn't expect to see only 25% of the USB 2.0 max speed (60 MB/s).  But I hadn't done this speed test with one of my USB 2 drives before.
I think my earlier concern about the ExpressCard version was misplaced.  Since version 1's max speed is 2.5Gb/s or 312.5 MB/s that doesn't seem like the limiting factor here.
I figure I'll be looking to replace my dv8t with something else, maybe from a manufacturer that more willingly tells me what it puts into the machine that I'm paying good money for, and what performance I can reasonably expect from it.  Of course, since I didn't try to find that out beforehand, shame on me, but I'd appreciate being offered such information rather than feeling afterward that I've been taken advantage of.  Especially since it's so hard to get such info from HP.
The IOGear USB 3.0 ExpressCard and Passport seem fine on first use.  However, since I presume the EC should be inserted before the drive is plugged into it, there's a bit of a challenge to push the USB 3.0 plug into the EC fully without causing the EC's spring to pop out the EC.  An alternative would be to plug the USB plug into the Passport as the last step.  That feels ok, but I'd rather have left that end of the cable engaged as long as I had the disk sitting on my desk.  It would also be nice if the EC gave some visual indication whether it's powered, just as confirmation.

  • Is My ExpressCard Slot Broken?

    Hi,
I just purchased a Macbook Pro a week ago and also a V640 Verizon Data Card. I had never had a reason to use my ExpressCard slot in previous Powerbooks but I found that it's pretty simple. Push it in and it locks with a reassuring click, push again to release and it pops out. Just now however, I bumped it and it slid out. I locked it in again, it works fine, but if I just PULL slightly on it out it comes, without pushing it in first. When I then reinsert it, I must push in and release it because inside it is still locked. Then I push in again and it locks as it should. But again if I give it an ever so slight tug out it comes once more. I guess this could be a safety feature to protect the sensitive pins, or is it broken? Again, the data card still connects. I broke it didn't I? I spilled a coffee on my last one...Thanks.

I posted to determine if that was necessary. Turns out it wasn't, but I had a case to return to the Apple Store anyway. Don't believe it when they tell you the new Macbooks won't fit in your old Brenthaven Powerbook case. Mine fits quite snugly but is certainly useable, and my old case seems like it will last forever.
Back to my initial question, the Apple genius took my new V640 card and inserted it into his Macbook Pro, gave a gentle tug, and out it came. He was surprised too, but apparently that is how they are designed (by the way the card is brand new, and doesn't appear damaged in any way).
The best news is that after I posted last night I noticed the power button was sunken down into the case just a little bit. I don't know how it happened as I know only a gentle push and release is necessary to power on. To me it's one of the cool design features of the Apple laptops. The store had one top case assembly in stock and replaced it in about an hour for me.
I am travelling so I was very lucky to get all that accomplished so quickly. So I just want to say thanks Templeton.:)

  • How to use ExpressCard slot with MPB Pro?

this questions may sound a little strange. I bought the MBP 15'' mainly because of the larger screen compared to the 13'' and the faster processor/graphics. It comes with a ExpressCard slot as well. How should I use the slot? I mean, which Card/Application/expansion is most recommended? Additional memory...? TV...? Where can I find such cards? Thanks for your comments/suggestions.

there are loads of different types on amazon for sale
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/qid=1233659292/ref=a9sc1?ie=UTF8&search-alias=aps&field-keywords=expresscard%2034
however be careful as the macbook pro will only take express card 34 so dont buy anything that is express card 54- as they are bigger and wont go in the slot.

  • 17" MBP expresscard slot not working after wake-up

    MBP6,1 17" SL 10.6.8
I'm trying to use a bunch of expresscard devices (3 different types of SD card readers as well as two SSDs). All 5 devices are being recognized by OSX and work well as long as the MBP is awake. After closing the lid and open it after a while I always get an error message that the media has been removed improperly. The media (SD card or SSD) is then dismounted and needs to be checked for file system errors.
I have an open incident at German Apple Support (Hotline) for more that 1 year regarding this issue.
IMHO it seems that the expresscard slot doesn't wake up in time before the file system of the SD/SSD media is being accessed and OSX then treats the media as "improperly removed".
I wonder if anyone is suffering from the same issue?
What are my chances of being heard by Apple (at last)?
Could this issue be fixed in Lion or will Lion be identical to Snow Leo (under the hood)?
    Best,
    Jan

  • L540 ExpressCard Slot

I am very disappointed in my L540 design quality.  It comes with the ExpressCard slot, but no dummy or door on the slot.  Therefore, I have a huge gaping hole in the side of my laptop.  I thought this was a manufacturing defect, so I took my laptop to the local authorized Lenovo repair facility.  They contacted their higher ups at Lenovo and then told me that it should be this way.  I can not believe that Lenovo would sell a laptop with a massive hole in the side without any way of covering it.  The laptop was also missing a dummy card in the SD card slot.  I was able to fix this by putting in one of my spare SD cards.
I can't believe Lenovo would ship a laptop with such a gaping hole in the side of it.
Has anyone else found this problem?
    Corey

Don't see it as a problem just buy a cheapo 54 express card and stick it in,look at the massive vents and lots of dust gets in there.

  • Adding ram through expresscard slot?

Is there any way to add more ram, possibly even GHz through a expresscard slot on the mbp/
i have no clue so be nice... lol

No such hardware exists now and the architecture of the motherboard precludes RAM from being installed anywhere except the built in DIMM slots. What COULD be possible in the FUTURE is to allow RAM chips to be installed on a PCI-e buss (which is in effect what an ExpressCARD slot is) so that they can mount as a type of solid state hard drive. Products like this do exist for the PCI buss. It is only a matter of time and existence of enough demand to see this develop. People that are utilizing this solution are either mounting operating system images on RAM (with battery backup) for ultra-fast boot times and OS operations or need large fast scratch volumes (photoshop, audio programs, etc...)

  • Will my 2010 MacBook Pro's slot be able to handle SATA 6 (or usb 3.0) via the expresscard slot?

I have been doing some research on buying an expresscard for my MacBook pro, I would like to pickup a SATA 6 or USB 3.0 adapter (perhaps both) for doing huge file transfers. However, I am uncertain as to whether or not my expresscard slot would be ablt to take advantage of the speed. According to my research, the 2010 MacBooks have version 1 of the express card slot which is 2.5 GT/s (whatever that is). What would this translate in terms of Mbps? Will my machine take advantage of the speed these interfaces have?

    GT/s = Gigatransfers / second.
    2.5 GT/s (raw transfer speed) = 2 Gbps (gigabits) = 2000 Mbps (megabits) = 250 MB/ (megabytes/second)
Your computer will support either the SATA 6 or USB 3.0, as they are both backwards compatible, but you will not see improvements in speed based on your bus. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA
