Stuck Home Button on iPod 4
My Home button is stuck and unresponsive. It's been a little sticky and slightly unresponsive all this year but now it just won't do anything. It was fine Friday but Saturday morning (today), it was unresponsive. I'm going to Apple tomorrow and hopefully won't have to rip one of their "geniuses" a new one for being a useless hipster (I apologize for the rant). If I have to send it in, how much will it be? I already dropped $200 for this thing and I know the warranty is already out. I have tried other simple fixes that are supposed to help make it at the very least responsive (open iOS app, hold power & Home, etc) but they didn't work. Any estimates on the cost of sending it in? And does anyone know of a possible company that could do it cheaper (in the Atlanta area)? So frustrated by this.

I broke my ipod a few months ago, but I got it fixed for my birthday. The wake/sleep button was permanently broken though and my ipod still has glithces in which it randomly takes pictures of what is on the screen. These glitches have been small until today when I was using it. When I pressed the home button, it took a picture of the screen and it has been continuously doing that for about and hour now. What can I do to fix it? Please help.
I have an iPhone 3GS running iOS 5.0.1 with this same issue.
When the phone is locked and has been left unattended for a while, sometimes when I first press the home button (to illuminate the screen ready to unlock it) it causes the phone to take screen capture.
My power/lock button is not stuck, as I can use it to lock and unlock the phone as normal. There is however one oddity in that if I power of the phone it cannot be power back on by pressing the power button! To power up the phone it has to be plugged into a charger, which (thankfully) automatically causes the phone to power on.
I'm sure the two issues are related, but I've even after replacing the flex cable that operates the power button, headphone jack, volume buttons and mute switch I've been unable to resolve either the screen capture issue or the powering on issue.
.....it's quite strange -

Is there way to fix a stuck home button? It simply doesn't move.
My son's iPod home button became stuck last night. It cannot be pressed. Can it be fixed that anyone is aware of, or do we simply need to purchase a new one?

So sometimes when I'm playing music my home button will just stop working, I can use the features of the iPod but thats it, so far I've just restarted it to solve the issue at the time, but is anyone else having this problem? If so, is there a way to fix it permanently?
I had a similar problem but my iPhone was stuck in phone mode. I reset the iphone per instructions in manual -- hold the home button and the power off button (top of phone) for approx 10 sec. When the apple logo appears it's been reset. Wait a few sec and turn the phone back on -- it may take a few seconds the hopefully you're problem is solved.
Good luck! -

Whats wrong with my home button on iPod touch?
The home button on my iPod touch (4th generation) seems to be stuck down. I have to press really hard in order for it to function, and sometimes it doesn't at all. Does anyone know why it is doing this and is there any way I can fix it myself at home? I would appreciate answers and advice, thanks.

What happens to the apps when I press the home button on iPod touch?
Yeah, I know that sounds obvious, but I need to know the idea behind it. In iOS 4, you can multitask, but only if you have an iPod touch 3rd generation (32 or 64 GB). I don't have an iPod touch 3rd generation; I have the 8 GB 2nd generation, which I upgraded to iOS 4, so I have no multitasking for 3rd party apps.
So my question is: On my 2nd generation iPod touch that runs iOS 4, if I close a 3rd party app that uses Push Notifications (such as Facebook or Textfree Unlimited) by pressing the home button, will it still run in the background?
Message was edited by: dlee099I'm not dead certain of this, but I think the only push mail supported is Apple's MobileMe. When you launch another app the current app is closed. The Home button should close any running app. The only exception I've noted is if you are playing music on the Touch which seems to continue playing even when running another app.

You can continue using the iPod without the home button:

Is there any way to fix the home button on ipod touch?
my home button has today stopped working! is there any way that this can be fixed, either by a repair shop or by me doing some thing? at the moment the only way to get out of an app is to turn off the ipod and then tuirn it back on again - which is getting really tiresome and annoying!!
About 2 mnths ago the ipod was submerged in liquid but oonly for seconds, it has since worked fine (thank god) with no troubles, but like i said, today for some reason the home buttn is no longer doing its job!! please help lol !!Try this previous discussion:

Wont be getting another Apple product when my contract expires
Rubbish product/rubbish service
Anyobe else experience similar? You can do an out-of-warranty replacement of your product at an Apple Store for $149 USD. Did they not offer to do this?
You can go to a 3rd party repair site and have just the home button replaced for less but this will eliminate the ability in the future to do an out-of-warranty replacement.
Against the terms of use here to do a poll but since you asked the question have I ever had a product fail after the warranty ended and couldn't get it fixed under warranty that would be a very long list and would include products from Samsung, Nokia, Motorola, etc. Before you purchase your next phone ask what the length of the warranty is and then ask if they will fix your device for free after the warranty expires. If they say yes get it in writing. -
Hey I own an IPod generation 32GB IPod Touch. I've owned it since about early spring this year (I can find exactly when if it helps). Over the past month or so I began to notice the home button becoming a little harder to push. Today it went over the edge, it still works but i have to press extremely hard for it to work. I did some research to find a fix and didn't find anything simple. I'm definitely not comfortable with taking it apart so I've ruled out that option. I heard about using rubbing alcohol, but that seems risky. This problem is really irritating, so I'm gonna either need to fix it or buy a new one. I'm willing to pay a little money (About $30-$60) to have it repaired, but I don't want anyone to tell me about some guy who does a great job, I want a reliable Support Center such as Apple or Best Buy. Since I've had the IPod for less than a year, am I qualified for a warranty of some sort (I don't have the protection plan). If anyone can help with anything regarding this problem I'd really appreciate it.
I'll probably end up calling Apple tomorrow and a couple other support lines, but It will still help a lot.
Thanks,
DrewPerhaps it is time to upgrade to a new device these things happen even with normal use.
