Stuck in "backing up ipod"

Each time I go to sync my iPod Touch, it begins to sync and then switches to "backing up iPod". I've never had this occur before this month when I installed a new wireless router (not that I think that should have had any impact). I cannot find any info on the site re:"backing up iPod". Each time I have allowed it to run for many hours (as many as 6) before giving up and disconnecting. When I disconnect, the newest addtions to my library are not uploaded to my iPod. Any ideas?

  • IPod Touch stuck in "Backing Up" while trying to sync

Hi. I have a 2nd Generation iPod Touch (16GB) with firmware 4.2.1. When I tried syncing it the yesterday, it was stuck in the Backing Up step for a few hours. I tried cancelling, I tried ejecting the iPod through iTunes, and tried shutting down iTunes by X-ing out and by going into Task Manager (Windows 7). None worked, my computer froze, so I had to shut down my computer without ejecting the iPod or cancelling the sync. Then when I reconnected the iPod, I had to restore it. I couldnt restore it on my laptop (the computer I was using), it would come up with an error message that said something like "This iPod cannot be restored due to.... (1604)".
Then, I tried restoring it on iTunes on my desktop computer. This worked, and the iPod restored with firmware 4.2.1 and would work. However, all of my music and everything else is on my laptop. So I tried then syncing it with my laptop to get all of my music back, but first started with trying the sync the (less than) 1GB of Apps I have... Again, the iPod is stuck in "Backing Up" and has been for almost an hour now. I have the latest version of iTunes (10.6.3), and its not an issue with Windows as everything else works fine.
    What should I do?
    Thanks,
    Adam

  • Ipod touch gets stuck on backing up when syncing

when i sync my ipod touch (32g) 3g, it gets stuck on backing up.. I need help..what can i do to get it to sync properly again?

Try moving the backup file(s) to a safe location so iTunes has to create an entire new file. If/when you get a good backup, you can remove the move backup(s).  The backup is located here:
iTunes places the backup files in the following places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: If you do not see the AppData or Application Data folders, you may need to show hidden files (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7), or iTunes may not be installed in the default location. Show hidden files and then search the hard drive for the Backup directory.

  • Stuck in backing up

My 4th Gen iPod Touch has been stuck in "Backing Up" mode for almost four hours now. I updated the iPod last week to iOS 4.3.3 but now it will not fully sync. How can I get passed the "Backing Up" part and actually sync this to my computer? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance to anyone that can fix this problem.

Terminate the backup/sync and move the iPod backup file to a safe place and try syncing again.

  • When try 4.0 update, stuck on backing up iPhone and won't update

I have tried to update my iPhone to 4.0. Each time I do it gets stuck on "Backing up iPhone" which it evidently needs to do before updating the software. I have left the phone syncing for hours and there is not change, no increase in the amount backed up. I've tried deleting photos text messages, etc to make less stuff to back up and there is no difference. Ideas?

"...There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting a TcpWindowSize entry into your Registry. If your default packet size is set incorrectly it can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet size modification for assistance.?
Ok, since APPLE is supposed to be so great, and it had SEVEN HOURS to finally create and display an error during the update which displayed the above message... WHY CAN'T IT TELL YOU WHICH APP OR PROGRAM IT CAUSING THE PROBLEM???
So I have spent over 24 hours of actual Update Time and many more hours trying various solutions to make THEIR crap work. I had to spend 14 hours on my daughters IPOD and my wife then had to take to the Apple Store. These "Genius" idiots had them there for over four hours and had no solution!!!
I never had to do that even when I did have trouble with Blackberry or Windows Mobile.
Apple's self absorbed and pompous attitude just lost them my business because they want me to serve them instead of the other way around.
Apple products are terrific, but are replaceable with comparably operating non-apple equipment and software at a MUCH LOWER PRICE, and do not take HOURS of time to try to make function on stuff that should be easy.
    Apple's m a r k e t i n g is the best thing about Apple. Too bad.

  • IPhone 4s Can't Sync to iTunes, Stuck in Backing Up (2of6)

I've an iPhone 4s 64gb iOs 5.0.1 for 3 weeks now, but still can't sync it w/ iTunes at all, I've tried iTunes version 10.5.3.3 and version 10.6.1.7 but both of them stuck on backing up (step 2 of 6).
I'm using win7 64bit. Can anyone help ? Reseting the iPhone and reinstall iTunes doesn't help at all.
And when I plug the iPhone4s to the laptop the lockscreen slider (where it used to say 'slide to unlock') didn't change to 'slide to cancel sync' or something like that (if it should have been that way) but there's two arrow circling on the upper left of the screen tho.
Please Help, really need to sync it
    Thanks

Now, i found the way out by the help of my cousin in the end. So with me, the problem is within the OS of the computer/laptop/notebook(my case)/netbook, so i need to reinstall my windows 7 and i did, after that everything works fine with the syncing iPhone with iTunes.
For those who have the same provlem, maybe reinstalling your computer/laptop/notebook/netbook can help ^^
    Regards..

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Maybe a long shot, but WD is not known for the quality of some of their enclosures, although I do like the drives themselves. It may be worth mounting this drive in a different enclosure, something like one of OWC's FireWire enclosures with the highly reliable Oxford chip sets. I wouldn't be inclined to trust a WD enclosure, especially if it already seemed to be acting in a flakey manner.
Here's an example of what I mean:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/MEP924FW8E2O/
I have 3 of these and I really like them.
From what I understand, if the drive spins up, it is often possible to recover data from it. To be absolutely certain to destroy the data, you just about have to take a hammer to the disk. Hopefully, there will be a way to get your data back.
    Good luck!

My ipod touch 4th gen will not update to IOS5 i believe the problem is itunes10.5
ive been trying to update since friday my internet is perfect [speedtest.net] itunes just wont get past [backing up ipod[ i hope they fix this soon and i just wanted to see if anybody else was also having this problem because i want the new features coming with ios but its just not working and it took all night just to get roughly to about 20% completion of backing up ipod then when i got home it said "could not restore ipod its still on firmware 4.3.3 so i dont know why it said could not restore i did click "update" but anyway im having this problem and wondering if anyone else is {i think everybodys having problems itunes10.5 right now

I am having the same problem (lost in back-up purgatory) on both my iPhone 4 and my iPad2.  I am running Windows XP.
I have tried everything I've seen suggested on various support communities, with no success.
I have gotten used to having to find a windows workaround everytime Apple updates iTunes, and this time it is especially frustrating.
I don't have any solutions, and I am responding to all of these types of messages in hopes of finding something that will work for me.
One person was able to work through it by deleting all of the previous iTunes backup files.  I'm trying that now.  4 hours into it, and it does not seem to be working......

  • When I try to update to iOS5, iTunes gets stuck on "Backing Up" its been there for hours and it barely moves

When I try to update to iOS5, iTunes gets stuck on "Backing Up" its been there for hours and it barely moves. It finished backing up one then it went to a "Extracting Software" on the iTunes status bar up top and then it gave me an error saying something along the lines of "There was an error with the server" and back to square 1. Ive been trying since the morning and same problem. Always stuck on the backup, help?

You may have lost your connection to the apple server or connection with your itunes library.
    1) You will need to shutdown Itunes and disconnect your iphone from the USB cable.
    2) Reconnect your Iphone to the usb cable, wait for the device to be recognised and or drivers to be installed.
    3) once all ok, your itunes should automatically open up/connect (if you have this setting set on), otherwise double click your itunes icon on your desktop.
    4) once all sychronised and connected. go to Summary tab and UPDATE your iphone again.
Hope this works for you, as this happend to me and tried the above steps and wala!!! all good.
If the above still fails, restart your pc/apple and turn off/on your modem and then try again.
this normally happens if your connection from your device to the itunes hangs or looses its connection, or have a bad connection to the internet / apple server.
in windows the RPC Locator is normally the cause of this, in apple i have no idea (as im not an apply user).
    Give it a shot!
if this helps you and works ...why not rep/like my response up!

  • Bought an ipod 4g at a pawn shop, it was locked and disabled but the guy said I could restore it, it didn't work and he won't take back the ipod what do i do?

I bought an ipod 4g at a pawn shop, it was locked and disabled but the guy said I could restore it by connecting it to my computer and pressing the home and sleep buttons at the same time, it didn't work and he won't take back the ipod what do i do?
When I try connecting it to my computer itunes opens and says I cannot connect to the ipod because it is disabled, enter passcode on ipod. The ipod is locked and disabled and will not allow me to try and put in a passcode, which I wouldn't be able to do because I have no idea what it might have been.
I downloaded the newest version of Itunes, restarted computer, connected ipod, nothing, held every button down for what seems like forever, nothing. I think I have been screwed by the pawnshop. Is there anyway of restoring this thing or is now just a $60.00 paperweight?

I recently updated iTunes to the latest update for Windows, since then, whenever I connect my phone and try to sync it just gets stuck in *backing up* for ages.. if I leave it it will be in backing up for hours.  I cannot sync my phone or add any content now.  I've been told to try and click the *X* in the progress window at the top of iTunes - but doing this does nothing but freeze iTunes for a few minutes - then it continues to *back up*... frustrating.  Can anyone help?

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 n above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if the problem has been resolved.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

ATA bus error means that data corruption occurred during transmission over ATA bus (SATA or PATA). This type of errors can be indicated by
ICRC or ABRT error as described in the section called “ATA/ATAPI device error (non-NCQ / non-CHECK CONDITION)”.
Controller-specific error completion with error information indicating transmission error.
On some controllers, command timeout. In this case, there may be a mechanism to determine that the timeout is due to transmission error.
Unknown/random errors, timeouts and all sorts of weirdities.
As described above, transmission errors can cause wide variety of symptoms ranging from device ICRC error to random device lockup, and, for many cases, there is no way to tell if an error condition is due to transmission error or not; therefore, it's necessary to employ some kind of heuristic when dealing with errors and timeouts. For example, encountering repetitive ABRT errors for known supported command is likely to indicate ATA bus error.
Once it's determined that ATA bus errors have possibly occurred, lowering ATA bus transmission speed is one of actions which may alleviate the problem.
I'd also add; make sure you have good backups when ATA errors are frequent
