Stuck in Default catch!, OS9 loop on a partitioned disk

I can't get back to OS 10.3
I partitioned a new 40GB drive. Info says 7.8 GB for OS9, and 30.16 for what is now OS10.3. OS9 is the first partition.
Here's what happens:
Updated to OS 10.3
Restarted. Was working to fine in OS 10.3 and decided to restart again for (unrelated(?) networking issue).
On start up, I got HappyMac and then a screen that reads "Default catch!"
I looked up in apple support how to get by that. I type "reset-nvram" ENTER, then "reset-all" ENTER, which restarts and boots to OS9.
I already tried switching start up disks to OSX while in OS9. That just brings me back to Default catch! screen and cycle begins again.
This did not happen until I upgraded to OS10.3. It worked fine for weeks in OS 10.1(?) -- whatever the PB came with.
Thanks. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Kerry,
I don't know how to fix the specific issue your PB is having, but I would start from scratch and not partition the HD. Is there some specific reason you want to? All Macs that can boot 9 and X shipped from Apple with both 9 and X on the same partition.

Trying to boot of the Panther Install Disk 1 in a Beige G3 where the Utilities folder disappeared. Safari, Disk Utility, System Profiler, all gone. I would like to run Disk Utility from the install disk but probably should just reinstall.
I have removed practically everything that isn't soldered to the mother board and reinstalled original G3 CPU.
When I double-click the Install Mac OSX icon on the install disk and click to restart, I get a command prompt with the following message:

If I type boot(return) I get a response "boot CLAIM failed"
If I type bye(return) I get an OS9 Smiley Mac, then it restarts to a perpetual OSX Apple with the spinning spokes. After about 10 minutes, I turn off the power and then back on but it boots off the internal disk.
I've also tried to change the startup disk to the CD and restart and I've tried starting up with the "C" key down. Usually it just boots off the internal disk anyway.

I just discovered that the one DIMM I had left in was not the original, but a third party DIMM. After replacing it with the original memory, I was able to boot from the Install CD. However, Disk Utility was not able to restore my Utilities folder. I will now perform a clean install.

Probably the best place to start is the right forum for your product. This is the forum for Distiller Server, a long dead product used by big companies, and probably not what you have. If you can't find the right forum, please let us know the FULL name of what you paid for (please check your invoice, as Adobe have many similar products), and we can perhaps direct you. Good luck!

  • Default catch! with hub at start up

When starting up with my macally usb 4-port powered hub connected to the mac, open firmware hangs with following error message on a gray screen
    GETCLASSDESCR for Hub error0ff927ef8 ffbd8c90 9
    DEFAULT CATCH!, code 300 at %SRR0: _
Booting up with usb-hub not connected is ok, also the hub works fine when connected while the computer, G4 (apg) 10.3.9, is running.
I would like to use this old hub if possible. Any ideas on how I can solve this problem?

    John
open firmware hangs … the hub works fine when connected while the computer is running.
Are you sure your firmware is up to date?
The version you need for a PowerMac G4 (AGP Graphics) is 4.2.8 Power Mac G4 Firmware Update 4.2.8: Information and Download.
Of course, if your hub worked OK before, it may just be a good idea to reset OF:
Hold down Command, Option, 'O' and 'F' keys while starting up. This gives you a command line interface with a '>' prompt. At that prompt type these three lines (followed by a return in each case):reset-nvram
    set-defaults
reset-allThe first two commands will respond with 'ok' (on the same line). You probably won't see the third response, since your computer should resume normal startup immediately.

  • DEFAULT CATCH! @ start up

Now have you ever heard of this one? I haven't. And I've been MAC forever! When I turn on my MAC (and this just started since I downloaded & installed hp printer software), the following appears and looks like something out of pre-PC:

So, I did, then got a screen with verticle black lines, then it kicks into normal start up!!
    WELL, DID YOU EVER?!
If you say "reboot with disk repair disk" you better send me one, 'cause all my disks went with the wave in Hurricane Katrina and I don't have ANY disks!
    Other than that, all's fine.
    HELP!!

Somewhere, somehow, I will find some disks to install from. It may take a few weeks. Willing to wait?
Sorry, didn't remember about the discs; I read dozens, sometimes 100+ posts in a day, so don't remember all details of each one, and don't always take the time to read back through a whole thread if I don't think I need to.
I use email subscriptions to any thread I post in, so whenever you post back again, I'll get an email. And I'm usually patient.
In the meantime, you could try to boot into Safe Mode.
Also try Single User/Verbose Mode and run fsck.
As I look back at your original post, I also see you're running "4.1.8f5 BootROM," so it appears that your firmware is updated; however, if the update was not done properly, I have no idea what the effects might be. The only other thing I can suggest, prior to finding your discs, is to get rid of that HP printer software and see if that makes any difference.

There is no way to consolidate iTunes accounts.
Setting up an iPhone has never required creation of a new Apple ID.
You've apparently purchased content with both Apple ID's.  Sign into the device with the correct Apple ID and sync the content.

  • Stuck in an Endless Restart Loop

My Mac Pro 8-core running OS 10.5.4 is stuck in an endless restart loop. The problem started when I tried to allow read & write access on my Macintosh HD to another user. Even though I only applied the permission change to my internal hard drive, all my externals suddenly became locked and I could not access them. When going to set permissions on the externals, it was listed as "custom" and I could not alter them. I went to the terminal to try to allow access to the external drives, but the terminal failed to load. That's when I tried restarting my computer and it's now rebooting constantly without ever loading.
    What I've tried so far:
-I can't load the OSX install CD because the computer is unresponsive to the open tray command by holding down the mouse click.
-The computer is unresponsive when I try to start in safe mode.
-The computer is unresponsive when I hold down command option O F to force the tray open with firmware.
-I reset the PRAM by pressing command option P R, this is the only keyboard command that has worked so far, but still nothing.
-I unplugged the computer for 10 minutes and plugged it back in. Still nothing.
Any help on what to do next would be appreciated.

I'm having a similar problem.. my early 2008 3Ghz macro when cold starts up the fans rev up and click its off. this repeats for up to five minutes, then i get a chime and then it shuts off. this is repeated for a will as if it is warming up. after about ten minutes it gets as far as finishing booting up and still shuts off. only after about 15 minutes this operating system is stable and does not shut off.
when the computer is fully warmed up it shuts off and restarts fine..
it has recently had a new logic board. can it be the power supply..
please any one got any ideas???

  • I am stuck on "accessing iTunes store" loop on Mac Pro...HELP!

    Hi,
Can anyone out there assist with a stuck on "accessing iTunes store" loop?  I cannot purchase or download already purchased season passes. I have the latest itunes software. Navigatig the itunes store is not a problem.
Steps I've taken to resolve the issue thus far:
    -restarting my mac pro
-signing out of itunes and signing back in (I could sign out but not sign back in.  Signing back in produced the same loop.)
-checked my itunes software, I have 11.0.2
-checked my Mac Book Pro software, I have version 10.8.3
All attempts have been unsuccessful.  Any help is much appreciated.  Thank you.

  • Catch in Loop w/o exiting loop.

    Hi,
I'm performing a LOOP at table.  ENDLOOP.  Within the loop I have a TRY. ENDTRY. CATCH.  This is so I can perform a arithmatic statement and catch any errors.  The problem is, if an error occurs it exits the LOOP.  I don't want to exit the entire LOOP statement.  I just want to continue on with the next record in my internal table.  But instead, the loop is exited.
    Any ideas?
    Example code:
      LOOP AT t_pcts ASSIGNING <wa_pcts>.
            TRY.
                <wa_pcts>-percent = <wa_pcts>-expprod / <wa_pcts>-actprod.
              CATCH cx_root INTO oref.
                text = oref->get_text( ).
            ENDTRY.
      ENDLOOP.

    Hi,
check if your program is activated. TRY CATCH in LOOP works fine.
    For my program:
DATA gt_vbrp TYPE TABLE OF vbrp WITH HEADER LINE.
    APPEND INITIAL LINE TO gt_vbrp.
    APPEND INITIAL LINE TO gt_vbrp.
    APPEND INITIAL LINE TO gt_vbrp.
    LOOP AT gt_vbrp.
      TRY.
          gt_vbrp-fkimg = 100 / gt_vbrp-fkimg.
        CATCH cx_root.
          WRITE: / 'Exception'.
      ENDTRY.
      WRITE: / sy-tabix.
    ENDLOOP.
    I get correct result:
    Exception
             1
    Exception
             2
    Exception
             3
Program does not interrupt the loop.

  • Tiger Classic-ified the OS9 on the other partition.

    Hi,
I recently bought this G4 QS and a 5-license DVD of Tiger (black disk with a silver 'X'), both second-hand.
Being a newbie to OS X I also bought about 9 bookshelf inches of Tiger books.
I fitted the G4 with a new 140 Gb hard drive and partitioned it roughly 100/40, taking care to put the OS9 drivers on both partitions.
I then installed OS9.2.2 from a gray G4 installation CD onto both partitions (no apparent problems there) and then put Tiger onto the larger partition.
I opted for this configuration because I have several older applications and files on my various older Macs and one of the books advised choosing a dual-boot system because not all older apps will run under Classic mode. I want to be able to be able to access my legacy files in the transition period until I have got more familiar with Tiger.
    Here are my questions:
Tiger has modified the OS9 on the larger partition (which I expected it to do) but it has also modified (Classic-ified) the copy of OS9 on the smaller partition as well, is this normal?
Will the machine behave properly as a dual-boot system?
Did I make some mistake with my installation procedure and, if so, should I try to correct it?
All helpful advice and suggestions will be gratefully received.
    Best regards,
    Pete.

OS X makes modifications to OS 9 to help classic mode. These modifications do not cause problems when you boot OS 9. There is normally no need for a separate partition for OS 9. OS 9 in an OS X partition can be used with OSX as Classic, or can be booted directly. There are a couple of reasons, though, why you might want separate partitions:
    1) You need to run some OS 9 applications that require modifications to OS 9 that make it not work as Classic in OSX.
    2) You want to be able to select OS 9 or Classic at boot time using the Option key. If they are in the same partition and boot is set to OS 9, you can get OSX by holding X while booting, but if it is set to OSX, you have to boot OSX, then choose OS 9 in the "Startup Disk" system preference.

  • Bootcamp stuck on partitioning disk

I've made enought room on my hard drive, and when i try bootcamp, it always gets stuck here
Is it because i partitioned wrong?

    Yes,
    1. clone your OSX partition to an external drive
    2. erase the internal drive
    3. restore the backup

  • When i remove bootcamp. It stuck in Partitioning disk...

I want to remove bootcamp from my mac. When i click restore and it say Status:Partitioning disk and look like it stuck. I wait for it about one night but it still stuck. How can I do?

Can you go to Disk Utility, click on your Macintosh HD, then click on the Partition tab?  Select your Boot Camp partition, click the minus button, and then once that is removed drag your Macintosh partition down to where it takes the whole drive.

  • Stuck in License This Software loop - Adobe has no clue CC2014

For weeks now, I've been stuck in a loop with having to "License this software" or "Start trial", when trying to start any CC Application. I started since i downloaded CC2014 and is happening also when trying to start my old CC apps.
Have been on mail and phone with Adobe Support several times and for hours. Support have been very helpful, but after they remotely have tried to do almost everything with my Mac and CC installation, it's clear that Adobe have no clue what's causing the issue.
The forums are full of solutions to this from other users with same issue, but none of it helps. I and support have tried it all.
I am in a bit more luck than several others, since I can run my Adobe apps in trial mode but with 00 days left(?). Others can't even open their apps.
I am posting this in hope to gather all experiences me and other users have with troubleshooting this together with Adobe. I have case no: 0185617726 which has now been escalated for the third time.
    Flemming

Just finished another 2 hour session on phone with Support and they finally found the issue :-)
For some reason there was a time mismatch in log files  (~/Library/Logs/amt3log) when opened in Console and the current OS time/clock set automatically by my timezone.
Somehow the supporter managed to align the time so it was right in both the OS and logs (not sure how but running some terminal commands etc.)
So everything seems to work now and I am a happy Adobe user again :-)
