Stuck in Horizontal Position

Good Afternoon Community,
I have an ipad 2 bought last Christmas. The other day I was using the ipad with no problems and shut it down. When I opened the ipad everything was in a horizontal position. This includes Safari, books, apps, etc. I went into setup making sure the ipad 'stay in one position' was NOT clicked on. I fully powered down the ipad and also shook the ipad in case the leveling mechanism was stuck. Nothing has worked so far. Any suggestions other than sending it back for repairs?

The side switch is the key.  Depending on your settings, it may affect the mute or it may affect the rotation lock.  Whichever function it supports, the other function is performed by a "soft switch."  This support article from Apple provides detail.

In case you're wondering, here is the history.  Originally, the mechanical switch affected only the rotation lock and the mute was a software switch elsewhere.  In IOS-3, it was changed to be the mute switch and the rotation lock became a software switch.  This was done to ensure consistency among IOS devices.  Unfortunately, a large quantity of users complained loudly, alleging that they turned the rotation lock on and off several times every hour and the convenience of the mechanical switch is essential.  In IOS-4, Apple bowed to the whiners and made the switch function selectable and now we're stuck with a mess.
There have been some problems accessing pages on the Apple web site.  If the hyperlink gives you a "We're sorry" message, try again.

No, that would probably be the orientation lock. Check up by the battery icon and see if you have an icon with a small lock and a circular arrow. Either way, go to the Control Center, swiping up from the bottom of the screen. Look at the top row of icons and the orientation lock is the last one on the right. White is on, black is off. Just turn it off and you should be alright. Understand there are some apps that do not change into the landscape mode from portrait.

  • Horizontal position of table

I am trying to set the horizontal position of a table while in Word Processing mode.
In the Inspector/Wrap tab I am selecting "Inline" and then it allows you to choose from Left- Centre- or Right-justified on the page. The problem is that none of these options align with the body text.
You can do this if the table is set to "Floating" but this then doesn't maintain vertical position with the text.
Is there an easy answer or is this a Pages09 foible we must live with (at least until the next Stevenote/iWork11 announcement).

If it is inline, then it is just like a big fat character.
So long as it has room to fit in the line you can treat it as such, with margin indents and tabs.
I hope you are using styles for your text, in which case apply the same text style to the paragraph that contains the table as for your other text, just making sure to use unit line spacing to allow for the exceptional height of the table. If you need to position the table away from the rest of the text, use before and after spacing.

  • My lock screen picture is zoomed in. When I try to change it, I can't scale it, or try to zoom out to a position I like. It is permanently stuck in one position. I asked a friend that had ios7 and he can't relate, and has never seen it before

To back to the normal scale you have to disable the parallax.
Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> Reduce Motion (turn off)
You won't be able to put the wallpepr out of frame as ios 6 (earlier), but it stop to putting the annoying zoom.

  • How do I UNLOCK the screen rotation? It's stuck in horizontal and I don't know what I did!

How do I UNLOCK the screen rotation? I'm stuck in horizontal and don't know how it happened!

In settings check to see if you have Screen Orientation checked or System Sounds checked.  If you have Screen Orientation checked, there is a button above the volume control on the right side of your iPad (screen facing you).  Click it the other way and your screen will again rotate.
If you have system sounds checked in settings, then on your home page, double tap the home button.  The bottom row will be your most recently used Apps.  Swipe them to the right until the very last icon and it will be a screen orientation icon, which you'll tap and that will allow your iPad to change orientation.

It appears to be stuck in horizontal screen in Messages only.

Try a reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

  • My keypad keeps disappearing when using google -- but only in the horizontal position.  In vertical, it works fine.  I have powered off and on, checked that Safari Instant is on, and cleared Safari cache.  Any help will be appreciated.

My keypad keeps disappearing when using google -- but only in the horizontal position.   Vertically, it works fine.  I have powered off and then back on.  I have checked that Safari instant is on, and I have cleared Safari cache.  Nothing has worked so far.

Okay -- it fixed itself.  Without any intervention, after all else had failed, and I was willing to live evermore with vertical searches.  If only everything else in my house mysteriously recovered from the broken state.
Have no idea what was/is going on with the disappearing keypad.

  • Iphone 4 camera gets stuck in horizontal mode sort of and text does get stuck. help?

So ever since i updated my iphone to the OS5 i have had some odd glitches. 1. the text message screen will stay horizontal until i restart the phone. 2. The camera seems to kind of get stuck in horizontal. The camera bar that is normally at the bottome shows up on the side but the camera acts really strange. if you turn the phone horizonta and take a photo it turns up vertical. when you move the camera around to take a photo when its like this it almost acts like if you are moving it the oppisite way that you are. its very strange and frustrating. Anyone know how to fix this and make it go away?

At some time in the past you used a program on your computer to kick the phone out of recovery mode or to hack it (e.g., tinyumbrella). This program corrupted your hosts file, preventing iTunes from contacting Apple's activation servers at gs.apple.com.
To confirm this diagnosis open a Terminal app window and type: ping gs.apple.com.
If you get something other than 17.112.176.11 this is your problem. To fix it edit the file /etc/hosts and remove any lines that contain gs.apple.com.

  • Screen "frozen" on horizontal position

I set the screen on the horizontal position to play a game and now it only gets back to the vertical position when the app screen is in the vertical position, otherwise it is fronzen on the horizontal position. I already reset the app that initially caused the problem, to no avail. Any ideas on how to solve this problem?

Did you accidentally lock the screen in that position? Check the little button above the volume, you shouldn't see orange.
Otherwise, hold down the top and 'home' button until the iPad shuts off and reboot holding the top button down. A hard reset (as described here) should fix your problem.

Error 40265xxxx: Errors of the 40265xxxx range generally occur during the restore-from-a-backup  phase, after  iOS has been installed on the device. Restoring the  device and setting up as new can resolve the issue. Before restoring as  new, take steps to preserve the previous backups created by iTunes, such  as copying the contents of the Backup directory onto the desktop. I think you are going to have to restore as new. Deleting that MobileSync backup folder may have caused the problem. When you delete the backup from iTunes like I was asking about, you are only deleting one particular backup. If you have multiple iDevices - all of the backups would be in that one folder - I think that's how it works.

  • S110 Flash Stuck in Out Position

I have just turned off my Power Shot S110 and the flash is stuck in the out position. I have turned the camera on and off and tried to take the battery out to no avail. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Please excuse my late reply, I have been traveling.  I contacted Canon on 10.21.13 and they asked me to remove battery, memory card and hold on/off button for (1) minute. Then I was instructed to replace battery, memory card and turn camera back on (some sort of reboot, I guess.) This did not correct the problem.  Next step is to send my camera back to Canon for repair. I guess it's lucky my camera is only 6 mos. new, so no cost except shipping to me.

  • Ipod stuck in locked position.

My iPod is stuck in locked, regardless of which position the sliding switch is in.  Does anyone know how to resolve?

If a restore of the iPod in iTunes does take of the issue, your iPod likely needs servicing.  In this case, you'll probably need to have the hold switch swapped out.

  • Printerhead is stuck in right position

This morning my printer gave the 0x61011bea message (paperjam);  after checking the entire machine I didn't find any paper left in the printer. The only thing I can't check is if there is any paper left in the printerhead because the printerhead is stuck in its starting position. Even after using considerable force, it will not move to the centre position. Even after resetting the printer and cut off the power, it will not move. Can some one give me some suggestions how to handdle? Because the printer is already 4 years in use, I will not let it be repaired because of the costs. yours scincerely, Bouke
