Stuck in installation screen.

Hello,
I originally had installed 10.4 with no problems except for the lacking of a classic environment. When I had to get into classic to retrieve my old files, I couldn't so I decided to try and reinstall 10.4. Having problems with the second install disc, I ended up having to buy a new version of 10.4(this one came with a dvd installer disc). Installation of the OSX DVD is fine when I hold in the c key, but whenever I try and start up it goes back into the old installer asking me to insert "disc 2". For whatever reason I can't cancel out of it. Is there another way to cancel installer? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately you do not give us any information about your system. Please fill in your system's details in "My public profile" in the right sidebar of this page. We need to know as much as possible about your system in order to help (especially: exact type of Mac you use, current system version, RAM, 3rd-party cards)!
The only way to reinstall Classic is through the disks that originally came with your computer. Depending on what version they are there are different procedures:
Using Restore Discs with Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.3.3
Using Restore discs with computers that ship with Mac OS X 10.3.4 through 10.3.7
Using Restore discs with computers that ship with Mac OS X 10.3.7 or later
Mac OS X: Reinstalling Mac OS 9 or recovering from a software restore
Mac OS X 10.2, 10.3: How to perform Mac OS 9 clean installation with Restore CDs
Most likely you will have to reformat the hard disk using the OS 9 install CD (you have to do that if you have no OS 9 hardware drivers installed), so troubleshooting your current situation does not make much sense.

Equium A300D-13x stucks on installation screen

I recently sent my laptop (Equium A300D-13x) back to Toshiba to be repaired as it was overheating and cutting out.
It came back today and when I turned it on I got the screen where I was asked if I wanted to go into safe mode or start Windows normally.

Ive recovered my notebook many times and the installation went always troublefree.
But of course such installation issue could happen always and I think you should simply repeat this procedure.
If you dont have Toshiba Recovery disk then try to recover the notebook using the HDD recovery option.
Just press F8 while notebook powering up.
Then choose Repair my computer. Then a new window will appear and you could select the new option called Toshiba HDD.

Need Help For iMac G5 Stuck On Grey Screen Or Apple Logo No Spinning Gear!

Hello everyone i'm new here and i'm new for using iMac for some reason i was trying to clean or to fresh installation the iMac that my brother gave it to me that he bought it into the flea market without the original disk on it! when i erase the Macintosh HD and some of the partition o iMac then reboot it now the iMac stuck on grey screen or apple logo no spinning wheel shown. and i also try to search and try all the tips of all mac user's like all the command key's and follow the instruction of them but still nothing happen..
Holding CMD & R just to go disk utilities nothing shown up only apple logo and the noisy fan.
Holding alt and it go to blue screen and show my mouse Pointer Refresh Logo, Hard drive Icon, Arrow Sign.
i can click Arrow Sign and it go Apple Logo and within 2-3 seconds and it change to Power Sign Logo,
i can click Refresh Logo but nothing happen .
i can't click the Hard Drive icon.
CMD, Option, P & R to Reset i also try and it's the same nothing change.
CMD, Option, ESC no action shown.
Is there anyway to fix this issue or problem please and thank you for help.

I have a MacBook 10.5. Its a few years old anyway it seemed to be working fine up until a couple of weeks ago then it started taking ages to startup.
I started it in singlemode then typed /sbin/fsck -fy then a message came up "harddrive appears to be ok" next i typed "reboot" and the system started booting.It started as normal with the apple logo and spinning chime,next the screen turns blue where the login screen normally appears but then the screen turns grey with no logo with just the pointer arrow on it and it doesn't seem to load past that point.Can anybody please help me solve this problem i have my kids photos and stuff on it that are unreplaceable.
Hopefully there's a command line that can help also I don't have a installation disk so is there a way I can download 1 onto USB??

Hopefully you have a backup, but...
Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility

*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

10.5.3 won't install... stuck in blue screen loop

I chose to install it from software update. It told me to restart. I did.
I got hung up on a blue screen loop.
But no error messages or anything.
I had to hard reset.
Then started up fine- but system profiler shows I'm still 10.5.2.
And software update still shows the update as "downloaded".
If I click "install" it immediately asks me to reboot, and sticks in the blue screen loop again.
I have done this three times now.
If I choose restart from the apple menu- same thing.
So I decided to shut down- can't shut down. Get stuck in the looping blue screen.
So it seems like something is gumming up the shut down process. I've heard of startup items making things freeze- can the same thing happen when shutting down?
Not sure what the issue is.
The other people posting problems seem to be getting error messages, etc.
I am going to try to repair permissions, and if that doesn't work maybe I'll try the standalone installer- but why is this happening? this is like a 2 week old MBA with next-to-no third party stuff installed on it... what could be corrupted already?
fortunately I have backups if worse comes to worse...
Any other tips/thoughts?

You could try, it's been known to sort system issues because it's fuller than the incremental "delta" update, so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing.
Remember to Verify Disk before update and repair permissions after update from /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.
But if you can't boot into Safe Mode something is amiss*. Since, you are able to use your system (not stuck on blue screen, try this first:
Go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> Login Items and remove them. Boot normally and test. If not go to ~(yourHome)/Library/Contextual Menu Items and move whatever is there to the desktop. Then do the same with /Library/Contextual Menu Items. Lastly, try moving ~(yourHome)/Library/Fonts to your desktop and restarting.
*EDIT: You do have to hold the shift key for Safe Boot until you see the spinning gear, just in case you didn't do that.

Macbook stuck on white screen with apple logo. help please

I have a macbook (black model) and while I was surfing on internet it is frozen. so I shut it down and restarted. When I restarted, it stuck on white screen with gray apple logo and seems like booting but nothing happens.
after that, I restarted again and put installation disc (leopard) without pressing any key and it opened normally. I backed up os with time machine but in one hour it is frozen again.
restarted again but this time it did not boot normally. so i tried booting from cd with c key, it opened installation screen. I have opened disk utility top repair disk, but when I click on disc image, repair / verify disk buttons are unavailable to click and S.M.A.R.T status is not supported.
After all, I tried to erase and install system several times, but after language section when I click agree to terms and conditions, mac freeze again.
So, I do not know what to do. Any help please?
Note: I already tried PRM and Safe Mode. (after safe mode it took me to installation screen again and nothing changed.)
Any help would be much appreciated!
Uptade: Also, opened system profiler and clicked on Serial-ATA, it seems loading but do not show any info. stucked again! help please

You need to select "MacintoshHD 10.5.8 not "disc image" in order to run Disk Utility and Verify and if necessary, Repair the disk.
That's why you are seeing this dialog.

Also, run the Apple Hardware Test.

IMac stuck at blue screen, then finder

Hi, I've searched for the forums for this answer but haven't found anything. Sorry if this has been discussed already.
I'm a user of a 24' white iMac with 2.16 GHz, 300 GB HD. I have 4GB of RAM installed from OWC.
Early last week I started having problems with my iMac. Nothing specific, just a general slowdown and stutter in programs that should have run fine. Things like typing for 5 seconds and waiting for it to show up, scrolling in iTunes would sometimes hesitate, etc etc. The strange thing is I noticed no substantial slowdowns in heavier programs like WoW, Photoshop and Aperture.
I ran Onyx maintenance on it with no real discernible difference.
Today I returned from a weekend of non-use, and when I tried to start it up it got stuck on the blue screen after the grey startup screen. I tried a safe boot, but for whatever reason it didn't recognize my keyboard and was still extremely slow. I finally got it to boot up normally, but it didn't load any desktop items, dock, or anything else. It just showed the finder bar. I clicked on all the available bars (finder, file, edit) with no response.
Any ideas on how to go about troubleshooting this problem?

It sounds like it might be a problem related to the hard drive, with three possibilities.
(1) It is too close to being full - Mac OS X needs free space on the startup drive.
(2) There is disk directory or other type of data corruption/error.
(3) The hard drive is becoming faulty.
If you are able to start up and operate the computer, back up at least your personal data, if it is not already, before doing anything else. If the problem is (1), move or delete some data so that you have at least 10% of total capacity as free space.
Otherwise, restart from your Mac OS X installation disc (for the installed system). Note if it is running normally when you are booted from another disk. At the first Installer screen, go up to the menu bar and select to run Disk Utility under Utilities. Use +Repair Disk+ on your internal drive. Note if any errors are reported, and if any are reported, if they are repaired.

10.6 won't boot; stuck on grey screen

I know this is covered here to some degree, at least, but I haven't been able to find a complete solution/answer, so here goes:
(Please, redirect me to the right source of information, if you know where to look, but not before reading through my post. Thanks! Oh, and I'm no computer expert, so, please, bear with me.)
First of all, my equipment: 17" iMac (serial #: w86262cru2n, emc #: 2104), running (ran?) 10.6 (w/updates)
So, as my title says, my iMac won't boot up and gets stuck on the grey startup screen with the  and the spinning wheel. I can wait and wait, but it never gets past this point.
Here are some things I've tried (nothing has worked so far; "no success" = stuck on grey screen). These steps are also laid out here.
- Tried normal startup (no success)
- Tried Safe Boot (no success)
- Tried booting without connected peripherals (no success)
- Tried alternate outlet (power source) (no success)
- Tried resetting PRAM & NVRAM (no success)
- Tried boot from 10.6 Install Disk (no success)
- Tried replacing original RAM (no success)
- Tried mounting internal drive as Target Disk on my 10.5 MacBook (mounts fine; used 10.6 install disk to verify, says disk is "ok")
- Tried booting to MacBook via Target Disk (i.e. iMac is external drive connected by FireWire) (no success)
- Tried booting from cloned copy of 10.6 disk on an external USB drive (yes, this can be done; I've done it before). This drive was verified "ok" in the same way the internal disk was (see above). (no success)
My next step appears to be to erase the original internal HD and reinstall 10.6. This is where my my ignorance begins to rear it's head. Since I can seem to boot from the iMac, can I do this through my MacBook, viz. mount the original, internal, 10.6 disk on my MacBook and erase it and install 10.6 from there (e.g. through Disk Utility on the 10.5 MacBook)?
Assuming this is possible, can someone step me through the process?
Assuming this last step isn't possible, does this all point to a faulty logic board (sounds like a 'worst case' to me)?
Any ideas? Suggestions?

Your 10.6 install disk seems unreadable if it won't "hold c or option" boot.
Clean the bottom with a alcohol and a very soft cloth and lightly polish until there is no streaks.
Don't touch the bottom or place the disk onto something that will mar the bottom.
If the disk still fails to work, get a replacement, as your going to need it. Get a jeweled plastic case for it.
To make copies of your Snow Leopard install disk, follow these directions.

Once you can hold c and boot off a working 10.6 install disk, simply reinstall OS X without using Disk Utility to Erase and Format the drive, this will replace the OS X installed (and bundled programs) with the disk versions, then reboot and immediately use Software Update to get current.
Your user files, third party programs will remain untouched, except for ones installed in OS X/root system files, those will have to be reinstalled with updated copies.
All else fails:
Grab a copy of your recent user file folders via FireWire target disk mode first or from a hold option bootable clone on a external drive
If you have to completely erase and reformat the drive, reinstall 10.6, there are some things you need to know.
1: The free iLife that came with your 10.5 install disks are not on the 10.6 retail disks
So to get that you need to select the drive makers name in Disk Utility, erase and install with the 10.5 disks first (warning, wipe entire drive)
2: Name the boot drive the same name as before in Disk Utility when formatting.
3: When you go through inital "Welcome to Mac" setup, use the same username as before, (different password)
4: Once in OS X 10.5 stick a working 10.6 installer disk in and upgrade. Once rebooted, immediately Software Update to current version.
5: Install programs from fresh sources next and update.
6: Finally, return the backup copies of your user file folders (Music, Documents, Pictures, etc., not Library) to their respective folders on the new configuration. Because you used the same hard drive and user name as before you should have little complications with things like iTunes song locations/playlists and other hard references to files on your drive.
By installing the OS first, then upgrading, then programs, then finally user files last, keeps the drive optimized as the drive is faster on the data installed first than data installed later. Since users files change size often, having them towards the end where they can grow or shrink keeps the performance of the computer up as much as possible for the OS and applicaitons. Eventually though with OS X updates it can get a bit more defragmented, but not much.

Iphone 3g Hangs and stucks at activation Screen on update to OS 3.0

Hello Friends,
My Iphone 3g Hangs and stucks at activation Screen on update to OS 3.0.
I updated the phone to OS 3.0 last night and to my surpsrise after the OS Completely installs and restarts the phone,the phone then hangs and all i can see is a black screen when the phone is connected to PC.
As soon as i disconnect, it shows the Itunes-PC Connect image asking for activation.
Again if a connect back,it hangs and keeps on restarting ..over and over again.
i tried everything:
1) Re-Install Itunes 8.2
2) Re start OS
3) CHnage USB Cable
4) Change PC
5) Keep the phone connected for around 4 hours expecting some miracle to happen still no use.
** If i try to donwgrade back to 2.2.1 then it givess error to and not able to downgrade.
Now i have put myself in a situation wherein i had to switch to other phone.
The phone is just getting rust as there is no Support/Care center in India.
Please someone help me out.

Close iTunes and unplug iphone
Search web and download the 2.2.1 ipsw file.
Go to device manager on PC and delete the USB option for Apple under the hardware options.
Reboot PC
Plug in iphone and wait for dreaded connection picture
hold power button and home button until apple logo appears
continue to hold home button and release power button until connection picture appears again
Your PC should now find the iphone in recovery mode
Now open iTunes and it will prompt you to restore
Hold the shift button on the keyboard and click the restore button at the same time
This will allow you to browse for the correct ipsw file
select the 2.2.1 file that you downloaded
your iphone will now restore
Once completed, you will need to resync
Now you are back to square one but at least have a phone that works
Now make an appt at the Genius Bar and make them update it for you
Mine is scheduled for next week

Apple Hardware Test Stuck with white screen

hy every one..............
i am unable to start the apple hardware test ,i've done anything ,holding d at start up with inserted installation disk,also with holding c........
also inserted application cd....
apple logo appear and after some time with spinning wheel it stuck with white screen....What that means
please help me out....

If you are still using Snow Leopard -
Shut down your computer and disconnect all peripherals (keyboard & mouse if pertinent) from your computer. Now reboot.
If the Mac starts up normally, shut it down again and then plug in one of the peripherals (keyboard or mouse first) and start up your computer again. If it does so successfully repeat the process, adding one peripheral at a time until your Mac acts up. At that point, disconnect the last peripheral you added, reboot your Mac and search the peripheral vendor's website for an updated driver.
If no driver exists or the problem remain after installing the new driver, try a different cable or a different port on your Mac.
If none of the above works, again disconnect all peripherals from your Mac, hold down the "shift" key to start up in "Safe Boot" mode.
If the Mac starts up correctly, restart without pressing the "shift" key.
If your computer still does not start up properly, shut it down and restart it while holding down the Apple+Option-P-R keys; keep holding "all 4 keys" down until you hear the startup sound "twice."
If none of the above work Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
Click Repair Disk.
(If Disk Utility cannot repair, you will need a stronger utility (3rd party) - Diskwarrior or Techtool PRO)
Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.
Remove any 3rd party ram.
Reinstall Snow Leopard - This will install a "fresh" copy of Snow Leopard without archiving old system files but leaves the rest of your files in place.
If your computer is still under warranty or you have Apple Care, take full advantage of it by letting tech support deal with your problems. It's what you're paying them for.
Out of warranty - take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP. Whichever is more convenient for you.

Downgrade Lion/Mountain Lion to Snow Leopard
1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer
      loads select your language and click on the Continue
      button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the
      Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the
      mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status
      of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then
      the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART
      info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on
      the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions
      from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS
      Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the
      partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on
      the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions. If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.

IMac is stuck on loading screen

My IMac (2009 i think), was working well, no problems at all. Tonight I started it and is stuck on loading screen. I have tried holding the Shift key and still doesnt stark. What can I do?

Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partitiion & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Permissions.
Re-install if that doesn't work.

Stuck at blue screen

It will load up after restart, passing the grey apple logo. When it looks like it's about to finish loading up Mac OSX it gets stuck at blue screen. Tried using Diskwarrior on it but it gets stuck in repair.

First thing to do in this situation is load the MacOS install disk, and reboot the system holding the C key down when you hear the chime until MacOS shows it is loading. This will not on;y show whether the system is basically sound and capable of booting, but also then give you the opportunity to run Disk Utility (in the Utilities menu of the installer) to check the hard drive for errors, and if any are found, attempt to repair them.
You'll need a wired USB keyboard (almost any will do, but NOT the Apple aluminium model) to boot to the installer.
When Disk Utility had finished the Repair Disk task, it if shows no faults, then you have a MacOS problem and likely need to perform an archive and install to set up a new copy of MacOS while preserving your files and applications. If Disk Utility shows errors it cannot repair, particularly reporting 'error on exit', it generally means the drive has suffered a problem. In those situations DiskWarrior is sometimes successful at recovery, though often a reformat is needed. In a small proportion of cases this problem is indicative of hardware failure - usually the hard drive itself, in which case a reformat would generally be expected to fail.
Be aware of course that reformatting the drive will wipe any and all data, so should not be done unless and until you have secured essential data.

Macbook stuck at loading screen

I need help. My mac stuck on loading screen. I've tried everything, read different threads, nothing helped. Repaired in disk utility, it said OK. Tried to reinstall Mac OS, but after content is downloaded, computer restards to install it and stucks again. Tried hardware test, but it stucks when it's almost done. Did ar resets, repairs etc. Please help me!

If you've tried repairing the disk from the installation discs without success, you really need to try with something a little more robust. I'd suggest DiskWarrior. http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/index.html
