Stuck in iPhoto

I was trying to import my pics from my iPhone to Mac Air ...it started importing and then it stopped after about a 1000 (I have total 1400ish)...and it's stuck...I unplugged my iPhone...and tried to exit the app but it won't let me close...it says please wait while your pictures are being imported!  I even tried to restart my computer but it won't let me and says the same thing...I am stuck!  what should I do?

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Force quit iPhoto. To do so, go to the Apple menu -> Force Quit (or press Command, Alt and Esc keys), choose iPhoto from the list and force quit it. If you still cannot close it, hold the Power button until your Mac turns off.

  • Random Pics stuck in iPhoto. Please HELP!

Hello, I am so frustrated any help is much appreciated.
I have been using iPhoto '09 to import for some time, and editing in Photoshop CS. I noticed recently some pictures will not respond to the double click that opens them up in Photoshop (PS from here on in.) The crazy thing is, it's random photos, even from the same day of import. I am so confused and really at my wits end. I can not drag and drop anything from iPhoto to the desktop. I can not copy or paste a selected image. I can not even find iPhoto file or library when trying to search from PS. I can't even edit them IN iPhoto when I select the app to be the editor.
I have no idea what I may have done, but will be pretty devastated if I have to lose many of the original images that are stuck in iPhoto.
PLEASE. If anyone knows what I can do, I really really appreciate your assistance.

Matt, you're awesome, and so sorry to have you on this mess! I have seen other files, like Data, Modified etc.. Now the Data folder looks like an Alias (has that little curved arrow in the bottom left corner), but the Data.no.index appears normal... This is where ALL my photos can be recognised, but they are simply thumbnails... The Modified folder holds all the originals as well, not just pics I've edited in PS.
How do I edit in PS? I have had that selected as the editor for iPhoto for years.
I am currently rebuilding the Library, with the top three choices selected. I'll see if that does anything, but you've helped a lot in teaching me how to access internal files or commands with the 'right click' before opening.
Again, your time and help have been much appreciated!

  • HT4906 Stuck with iPhoto '09 in Mountain Lion, no Photo Stream

I installed Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard, and I cannot access Photo Stream because I am stuck w/ iPhoto 9.  The support article linked from the greyed out Photo Stream says Snow Leopard Users can update iPhoto with a software update. None available to me.

Do you have iPhoto '09 (version 8.x) or do you have iPhoto '11 (version 9.x)? If you're using iPhoto '09 (the most recent version available from Software Update is 8.1.2) it does not include Photo Stream. If you want iPhoto '11 (the most recent version is 9.3.2) then you'll have to purchase it from the App Store. There is no simple "software update" from version 8.x to version 9.x.

  • Stuck in iPhoto and Finder even after restarting

MacBook Pro, latest OS 10.8, stuck in iPhoto, Finder also not responding so can't use Force Quit:  have restarted twice by
pressing on/off and always restarts in same state, Finder and iPhoto stuck - what to do?

Press the Shift key while your Mac is starting to start into safe mode. In safe mode, your Mac will only start with basic drivers, so Finder and iPhoto shouldn't open automatically. Also, safe mode makes some maintenace tasks on your Mac > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564
After starting into safe mode, restart your Mac as usual and you should be able to use it without any problem

  • Stuck with iPhoto 8 on Lion!

I took my one year old iMac which is originally running Snow Leopard and I ran a clean install on it, meaning I lost my iLife package. Before I noticed that I downloaded Lion from app store and installed it. When I booted up I noticed no iLife software was installed so I took my applications install DVD and installed all the missing software (snow leopard edition) and now I am stuck with that. Had I installed iLife before upgrading to Lion I would have gotten iPhoto 9 and iCloud support. How can solve this problem without reverting to Snow Leopard??

As Terence has pointed out if you want iPhoto 9 (11) you will need to purchase it.  You can either get it from the App Store (individual purchase of iPhoto) or purchase the iLife 11 disk from the online Apple Store which will include the now discontinued iDVD and iWeb applications: iLife 11.
If you intend to use iWeb or iDVD at any time I suggest you purchase the iLife 11 disk while there are still in stock.

  • Time capsule stuck restoring iPhoto library from iCloud drive

I bought a new macbook pro. I used Airport Extreme Time Capsule to upload everything from old mac to new mac. Everything worked fine except on thing. My iPhoto library wouldn't transfer. It showed up in the new iCloud drive with a cloud and an arrow pointing down. I then tried to restore a previous version from time capsule (again it had been stored in iCloud drive), but it has been stuck on "copying "iPhoto library.photolibrary" to "cloud drive"" for many many hours. My iCloud drive has 190GB free and my iPhoto library is 20GB. Can anyone figure out what is wrong.

I am restoring wirelessly again to note the error message, it still has 15 hours to go!
You don't remember what the message was?  Not even roughly?
Hint: when you get an error message, take a screenshot of it so you'll know what it says.
My network is just a wireless ADSL Router connecting my Mac & TC. If I want to connect via ethernet cable, do I need to connect TC with Router?
Either connect both your Mac and the TC via Ethernet, or connect them directly.
because connecting Mac & TC did not work.
What do you mean?  What happened?  Error messages?  If so, what?
Can I connect using the ethernet cable now while the restore is on to speed up the restore?
Yes.   Once it's connected, and on, make sure Ethernet is above WIFI in System Preferences > Network.  That will insure that OSX will use Ethernet when both are active.
If it isn't, click the "gear" icon at the bottom and select Set Service Order.  On the next window, drag Ethernet to the top.

  • Apple TV Screensaver stuck on Iphoto Album

I made an IPhoto album of friends pictures and set Apple TV screensaver to it. Worked fine. Now I'd like to change the screensaver's library back to IPhoto Events or Photos and can't find those libraries on Apple TV screensaver. All I get is the "friends" album. How do I get the IPhot "Events" and "Photos" libraries back?

Ok. If you just wanted to view your library manually then you would just make sure all pictures have been selected in iTunes (file - home sharing - choose photos to share). You can then view them under the Computers icon on Apple TV.
If you want to mirror, native use will require a Mac from 2011 or later, running OSX 10.8 or later. Older hardware can use 3rd party software like Airparrot. You would then just create the slideshow on your Mac and activate mirroring to display on your HDTV via Apple TV.
Note: both methods require the computer to be on. Home sharing will need iTunes to be open as well.

  • Iphoto stuck "upgrading iphoto database"

I upgraded to the new version of iphoto with Yosemite but can not get it to launch properly. It sits with the message "upgrading iphoto database" for seemingly ever. I've left it going overnight and still nothing. I've forced quit, restarted, erased and redownloaded iphoto, all with the same results. Any help or how to fix would be appreciated.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Stuck with iPhoto '08, can't get '11?

    '07 Mac Mini.
    OSX 10.7.5
    iPhoto 7.1.5
So my first mac was an '07 mac mini. I kind of neglected it after I got an iMac, but now I'm trying to bring the Mac Mini as forward as possible and give it to my parents to complement their new iPad (particularly photo stream). The latest OS it supports is Lion, so I've run all the updates and I'm at 10.7.5.
Unfortunately, the Mini's iPhoto is at 7.1.5. I know it is technically capable of running iPhoto '11 AKA 9.4.3, but I can't find it anywhere. Going to the MAS doesn't help because it only offers iPhoto 9.6, which requires Yosemite. I do see that Apple's support site supports manual downloads of 9.4.3 upgrades, but I can't tell if those require '09. Is the only solution to buy a copy off Ebay/Amazon?
    Happy Holidays, all!

I do see that Apple's support site supports manual downloads of 9.4.3 upgrades, but I can't tell if those require '09. Is the only solution to buy a copy off Ebay/Amazon?
The manual downloads at he support site are updates and not full installers. They require a full version of iPhoto '11, version 9.x.x already installed.
Search at Amazon or  eBay for the boxed version of iLife '11. It will include an early version of iPhoto '11, version 9.0.x or 9.1.x., and also iMovie and GarageBand.
    For example:  http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MC623Z-A-iLife-VERSION/dp/B003XKRZES
Then update, using the updaters from the support site.

  • Just upgraded to Yosemite but iPhoto still gets stuck in slideshow!

  • PRINTING more than one photo on one page but not at iPhoto's preset sizes

    Ahhh! This is so frustrating!
I have several photos which have been downsized to 7.2 x 7.2 cms. I would like to print them all out on one page and eventually add them to a specific photoframe. By printing onto one page it saves expensive photopaper and the enviroment!
However, Im stuck with iPhotos preset sizes which are no good to me! Why is there not a custom size option? Or just an option to print out the photos as the size they genually are?
I would rather not guess the size and use 'N-UP' or 'Sampler'. I just want to print out several small phots onto one page.
    Please help me.
    Thanks.

    Hi Tct,
I use Portraits and Prints for my printing templates. There are a lot included with the program and the Pro version you can make your own templates to use.

  • IPhoto '09 seems to be incompatible with Mountain Lion

    Hi
I am a long-standing major fan of Apple computers. This is because they allow me to work easily with images. I am an art historian and museum curator. My professional life is entirely about images ... or rather about images attached to data.
For years I have been accumulating and categorising images using iPhoto. It has been the most wonderful tool. A clear, simple interface. The capacity to attach searchable free-text metadata. Wow, that simple feature makes this the most powerful application of any I have ever used.
The problems started for me when iPhoto '11 first came out. This removed the capacity to compare photos side by side in full screen mode, a brilliant, simple and obviously powerful feature. As a consequence I did not upgrade, but stuck with iPhoto '09 (8.1.2).
Now I discover that there seems to be a bug which means iPhoto '09 is not compatible with Mountain Lion. Whenever you go into Preferences the computer seizes up and has to be hard-booted. An Apple genius was unable to fix this for me. I've reinstalled the entire operating system to try and fix the problem, but it remains. I gathered from a discussion thread that it was simply an incompatibility with Mountain Lion.
As a consequence I have purchased iPhoto '11 (9.4.1) and Aperture, which I was advised by the Apple Genius would be much better than iPhoto. I have converted my several iPhoto libraries. But I just cannot get anything resembling the clean functionality of iPhoto '09. Everywhere I am cluttered up with gadgetry which I cannot remove. It just is no longer possible to view photos with their basic metadata in a clear and simple way.
The only way I can see forward is to downgrade to Lion, reinstall iPhoto '09, and live the rest of my life without ever upgrading to Mountain Lion.
Forgive the long rant. I am sure people will be irritated and say I should not be using an application designed for holiday snaps for professional purposes. But that is not how I see it. iPhoto is part of the fundamental suite of utilities which makes an Apple computer what it is. That means it ought not to be designed with a single purpose in mind. We are creative people. We use our machines as it suits us to use them. Apple became what it is because it understood that.
If anyone can point me in the direction of a image organiser which allows me to store photos with associated searchable free-text metadata, add dates of my own choosing to the images and to do this in a way which integrates with other applications as well as iPhoto, I'd be so very grateful.
Otherwise I think it's going to have to be the downgrade.
Or could this even be the moment come to abandon Apple? I'm due for a new machine. For the first time in 25 years and six Apple computers I'm going to be considering the competition. Any helpful suggestions would be very gratefully received.
    Thanks.

Yes, that's it! You're brilliant. Thank you so, so much.
Just in case anyone else reads this having had the same problem, the answer is (as Terence says) to delete anything which might cause the computer to try to link to a MobileMe account. My iPhoto libraries had old MobileMe photo galleries which I hadn't bothered about in years. It seems these caused the iPhoto Preference pane to attempt to access MobileMe whenever I opened it. This of course it could not do because the service is defunct and so the computer simply beachballed. In order to remove the MobileMe galleries I found I could only do it if I first disconnected my wireless network. All MobileMe references are gone now (I hope) and everything seems to be working well.
    Hugely grateful.

  • Can't update iPhoto in Mac App store or Software update... Help!

I am stuck in iPhoto 9.1.5  Using Lion iPhoto purchased through mac app store.  Please help me

Maybe it's just a bug, Mac App Store seems a Beta to me for how laggy and buggy it is. Usually when it says something about another account it's 'cause you have pirated software and the App Store receipt inside it is indeed connected to another account, making it impossible to download the update. If that's your case what you have to do is to right click on iPhoto and select "show package content", open the "Content" folder and delete the "_MASReceipt" folder inside it, now the update will show up on Software Update.
A user posted on another site a way to solve this.
It worked for me, hope it helps.

  • Switching from IPhoto to Aperture: will changes/metadata be transferred?

I have spent a lot of time editing, adding titles and the correct dates to more than 25.000 old pictures that I had scanned/digitalised. These, obviously, did not have the correct date but the date when they were digitalised. I did this in IPhoto by using 'batch change'. Now am I stuck to IPhoto forever or will all these changes be transferred if I switch to Aperture for instance? Or will Aperture or any other Photo-application only work with the original that a Mac always keeps?

If I wanted to keep them within iphoto - but to write the faces & places tags right into the Jpeg metadata - I could export and re-import to iphoto ?
Seems like a laborious and space and time consuming way to get faces and places tags written to the underlying jpegs!
    Any other options ?
