Stuck in my Windows ways trying to share

Question

I guess I'm really dense, because I can't figure out how to have a document editable from 2 different user accounts on the same iMac without copying it?
Can I have a folder that 2 different users have full rights to edit/access?

You can choose to set the ownership of the files to the same as the Shared folder.
Simply put the files/folders in the Shared folder that you want everyone to have access to and then click on the Shared folder.
Then go to File>Get Info>Sharing and Permissions.
Unlock the lock and click on the small gear-like icon at the bottom and choose to apply to enclosed items.
That will change all enclosed items to the same ownership as the folder.

If you do that you may want to simply just move a copy of the original file into shared rather than the original.
The default preference settings were meant to preserve the original file and still allow others access.
You also run the risk of multiple users trying to access the same file at the same time and if more than one person is modifying it you can end up with a real mess.
If more than one person is accessing the file they should probably be giving the file a different name when adding updates so that others are not reading one version then saving a different version over the modifications that someone else has made.
That is one of the functions of network and server management.
You may need more sophisticated management than simply file sharing provides.
