Stuck in Projector display???

I recently plugged my Macbook Pro into a projector for a presentation, and ever since my display has been stuck in the projector mode (too wide for the screen, strange looking).  Anyone know how to reset the display to normal?  Thanks!

System Preferences>Displays.
Depending on your computer the native resolution will vary. so just keep changing resolutions until things look back to normal!

expected: projector seamlessly connects and resolves the resolution (this happens for windows based laptops where resolution on projector is automatically resized)
actual result: laptop tries to connect, LCD on MBA flickers, projector is recognized by the MBA but projector display still stays in idle mode and shows nothing as if nothing is connected to the projector.
please help, i've seen only one thread about this exactly same issue when running windows7 dualboot on mac.  updating drivers resolved this problem but there is nothing available on MBA for display updates and no other solutions have been provided.
Note: i was able to connect to another projector and that worked flowlessly.

I did finally manage to resolve this. I ended up purchasing a smattering of connectors from Monoprice, and their standard Mini-DisplayPort-to-VGA connecter has connected without a hitch to every display which was previously causing trouble. Why this should work where the officially supported adapter did not, I cannot say.

    Hello hbothner,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If you'd like to change the colors on your Mac's display, then you can calibrate your display by following the steps in the article below.

  • Dust Stuck on rMBP Display

    Hey all,
My Retina MacBook Pro was delieverd to me last week, and I have noticed that there seems to be dust stuck on the display of the laptop. It is in a pretty noticeable spot, just left to centre on the display. It is quite distracting when watching movies, or generally using the machine against a dark backdrop. I at first thought it was a dead pixel, but I noticed that the anomoly is still visible when the system is powered off. I have had a few dead pixels on a few other desktop displays that I use and I can generally live with that, but this seems to be much worse and more distracting than your typical dead pixel.
I have tried my best to remove the dust from the screen, by rubbing it with a microfiber cloth which has not worked. I have also gently rubbed it with my finger, but to no avail also. I can actually feel the dust on the display itself when rubbing it with my finger. Does anyone have any other cleaning suggestions?
The very fact that I have been unable to remove the dust is leading me to believe that it is embedded between the display and the outerglass casing. I am nearly certain that the dust was not there since day one as I would have noticed it, so would it be possible that dust would have somehow found its way between the glass and the display? And if that is the case, what are my options? I bought the Retina model and had hoped to enjoy a prisitine screen, but this issue is a bit of a bleamish on such a fine screen.

What happened, Sierra? I have the exact same issue...a "dust spot" that actually looks like a puncture on the screen. I'm wondering what my chances are for having a cosmetic issue addressed.
You won't know that until you call Apple Care, get a case number if you are still under warranty.  If out of warranty, take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • Regarding projector display

Hi! I just want to ask, how can you show different display in projector (like wallpapers) while you're organizing your presentation files for a report? In such a way that the audience won't see the display in your laptop while organizing your files. Thank you!

    cmd+f1
    hope this helps
you can also try this :
There is a checkbox in Displays system preference to put it in the menu bar. The menu bar item has a mirroring setting. You don't need to open the preference to change it.

  • Spot of dust got stuck on PB display...

    Hi,
On the display of my PowerBook, a spot of dust got stuck. I user iClean to clear the display. But I am scared to clean this particular spot on the display; afraid that it will cause permanent damage to the screen. Any ideas on how should I go about it?
Also, can someone recommend a nice screen protector made for PB 15"?
Thanks for your help in advance!!
    Brilty

I have no idea whether or not you made that up, but you certainly didn't read about it in these forums, where every complaint, worry, concern and paranoid fantasy about PowerBooks has been done to death. And I know, because I've read just about every one of these posts.
Wether or not there is more space between the screen and kbd on the Titanium and Aluminum models is irrelevant.
Of course, this claim is absurd. The difference in space between the two models is an important improvement in the PB's design, not only for the sake of the well-documented imprints the TiBook's keyboard left on its screen, but for the sake of keeping the machine cool when it's used in clamshell mode. Again, the keyboard does not make contact with the screen unless pressure is applied from the outside or for the sake of third party products placed on the inside.
The small rubber bumpers on the screen enclosure do little to protect your screen from even the mild pressure exerted on your laptop while in most soft carry bags
The small rubber bumpers are not intended to protect the screen from the keys, because the screen doesn't need protection from the keys, except in the conditions I've described. The small rubber bumpers are intended to keep the bezel from rubbing on the edges of the palm rests where discoloration of the palm rests and the bezel can occur. This is a purely cosmetic issue, and it is something that was only added to the PB's design in recent revisions. It has never been a part of the 17" model's design because its dual latch resists this sort of contact.
To further illustrate, look at the abundant aftermarket products available that address this very issue.
The presence of these products on the market does not mean that they serve any useful purpose beyond providing peace of mind to paranoid consumers. People don't buy these products "to circumvent a potential design flaw in the PowerBooks." They buy these products because of the FUD that goes around in discussion boards. None of these products, including the screen cleaning products, are endorsed or recommended by Apple (though I do swear by Monster iClean).

  • Best Compression for Projector-Displayed Movie

I have an NTSC anamorphic SD Quick Time movie, from a Pro Res 422 sequence. The primary camera was a DVX100B.
The DVD of the movie, using standard Compressor presets looks great.
The movie has a number of fast motion scenes and played on a Mac, it suffers terribly from interlaced artifacts in those scenes. So I've tried many different compressions - to DV, DVPRO50, H.264- all de-interlaced - but they all are unacceptable (noisy and lack of detail). I've tried both Compressor and MPEG Streamclip - getting slightly better results from the latter.
I must be missing something. Any thoughts?
    Thanks.
    Russ

    Thank you for the reply.
The movie actually was shown last night and and I'm pleased to report it looked very good and was received extremely well. As it turned out, the settings that produced the best result was DVCPRO HD 720p60 with a few filters added. So what it really boiled down to was trial and error - a long series of short tests before finally finding something that worked.
Yes, it was made from a self-contained QT file - in this case, the transcoding was done in Compressor - rather than MPEG Streamclip.
It played from the MBP. I had been a little concerned that the card might not be up to displaying the HD format smoothly…but no problems there.
    Thanks again.

  • Ipad stuck in vertical display

We have an original Ipad that now only displays vertically.  We don't know what adjustment we did, but we would like to allow it to switch to horizontal display as well.  What setting do we need to change?

You most likely have the rotation lock turned on.
What iOS version do you have?
You can check this in Settings > General > About > Version.
If you have an earlier version than 4.2 all you need to do is flip the switch on the side and it will rotate again for you.
If you have a version between 4.2 and 4.3 your side switch has been change to a silent switch and you need to double tap the Home button (to bring up the Multitasking menu), slide your finger from left to right across the icons at the bottom (so you can see the iPod controls) and press the grey rotation lock button on the right.
If you have 4.3 or later you need to check what the side switch is set to (silent/rotation lock) and either use the switch or mutitasking menu to disable your rotation lock. This option will be in Settings > General.
    Hope this helps

  • Mac mini stuck on wrong display settings

My setup is a Mac mini plugged via HDMI into a 32" 720p TV. In display settings, I accidentally selected a resolution lower than 720p, and my TV says 'format not supported.' Normally, I thought the computer would revert back to the original settings unless you press enter. This did not occur. When I plug into a 1080p TV, all is well and the Mac automatically switches resolutions to match the TV. But when I plug back into the 720p, it reverts back to the low resolution, which the tv does not support. Upon startup, the apple appears, but the screen goes blank before reaching the sign-in screen.

Mac mini HDMI is not supported by Philips hdtv.
It may also not be supported by other brands.
I am selling my Philips hdtv because of this.
You can use display port to vga output , but then there is no sound.
The Mac mini worked fine on 3 different Samsungs I tried it on.
I have read there is a workaround for the Philips issue, but my advice would be switch to Samsung.

  • Palettes stuck on 2nd display

My tool palettes in GL CS2 (Windows XP), once I drag them from my primary monitor to my second monitor and release the mouse, stay there, unable to be moved again. They work OK, but can't be repositioned at all or moved back to the primary monitor.
This doesn't happen in any other program. I can move my palettes around to my heart's content with other Adobe CS2 products.
Can't find anything here or elsewhere on-line. Ideas? Help me before I re-install!
    Thanks!
    David

OK, now it's getting really weird.
Uninstalled and reinstalled GL, deleting preferences in the process. No change.
Then I started playing around in the NVIDEA Control Panel and nView Desktop manager (for my graphics card), since the last thing I did to the system was to swap monitors, and may have poked around in there getting my dual monitors working again, etc.. I want to use as little as possible in any secondary control panel/driver/profile manager so as to not conflict with my Eye One Match color management system and Windows settings, etc.
But in this NVIDEA control panel, whatever the heck it is for, I went into a section named Profiles, clicked on the current profile shown which is called Default, clicked Load (I'm just poking around at this point) an lo and behold the GL Tool Palette pops up! I then drag it over to the second window, and it gets stuck just like all the other ones were doing. I hit Default Workspace to bring it back to the promary screen and it vanishes again. I can repeat the process from the beginning and get it back.
By now I'm reasonably sure the NVIDEA settings are fighting with something, and would like to disable as much as I can without disabling the actual graphics card. What a pain!
    Any other suggestions appreciated.
    David

  • Program stuck where second display would normally be?

I normally use two displays but I'm now traveling and I cannot get the program off where the second display normally is (I cannot reach the top bar to drag it across)..
    any ideas?

Change the display resolution to something else. Then change it back to normal. That should bring the program back onto the screen.

  • I want to use Apple Tv with projector display and allow multiple people to take over the display during the presentation.

Is this possible? Or can only one computer have control off the apple tv? Can someone else seamlessly take control?
Its for a church service and would be nice for it to just be seamlessly transfered to different people rather than showing the apple menu which might be distracting.

You can't airplay from multiple devices at the same time, but you can switch.

  • Stuck with grey display and strange pattern!

My iMac froze a few days ago, so I used the power button to turn it off. Then I restarted  the computer but I had a greyish monitor with the apple logo, and they were filled with little suigly lines. (see photos)
Then the screen gets a strange pattern on the left side
and after a while I get the text box telling me to restart.
But each time I retart I get the same thing, so impossible to open the computer
to get access to Terminal or Activity Monitor to try and change things.
    Any suggestions?

  • Is there a key on the MacBook Pro to toggle display options for a projector

I have had some difficulty getting my InFocus projector to consistently work correctly with my MacBook Pro. Is there a key on the MacBook Pro that toggles the options for projector display? There was one on my last MacBook and my previous PowerBook.
    Thanks -
    Dudley Warner

No, there is no longer a key to control external display modes (it's F7 on my 1st gen MBP, but the option was removed along with the embedded numeric keypad in the Early 2008 models). There's not a substitute keyboard shortcut (with the exception of installing a macro player like Keyboard Maestro). Your main option is System Preferences > Displays (as stated, ticking the box to show Displays in the menu bar provides a helpful shortcut).
