Stuck in recovery error

I recently had a problem with the hard drive on my laptop that made it unusable. While I could get it started it would error and restart and then try (but fail) to repair itself when I tried to do anything. To try and get myself a usable system again I have bought http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236561 and a set of recovery disks from HP. The hardware Installation was easy but Im having problems with the recovery process. It has got itself to 4% of the 'copying files required to restore the hard drive' and I get an error

and clicking okay just gives a few seconds before it pops back up again. Ive no idea what I can do to make it get past this. An advice on what the problem mightbe and what I can do to remedy this would be greatly appareciated.

Hello everyone. I decided to restore my perfectly working iPod Touch with the latest version of iTunes (11.1) on the latest version of Windows (8.1), but I keep on seeing the error "it's impossible to restore iPod "iPod". An unknown error happened (1)." Now, I've read that the "error (1)" is a hardware error, but my iPod was working until the restoring. Now it keeps on showing the apple and if I connect it again to the pc iTunes tells me to restore it, and so on.
What can I do? I used it a lot without any problem and now that i tried to restore it it seems to be...broken? How on Earth?

My apple TV 3 is stuck in recovery. When connected to iTunes through microUSB, it gets stuck in "Preparing Apple TV for restore", then after what seems forever, it gives me an error 2003. What can be done?

I tried to update my Apple TV today through iTunes using a microUSB. It gave me an error, I tried again and now it is stuck in recovery mode. If I plug it into the TV, it just shows that I have to connect it to iTunes (just the picture). I unplug everything, plug the microUSB and USB, plug the power, open iTunes, it shows, asks me to restore, I click Restore. It starts extracting the file, finishes, then gets stuck in "Preparing Apple TV for restore..." for what seems forever, when it finally times out, I get an error number 2003. I have tried different USB ports, no other USB device is connecte, I have tried restarting the PC (running windows 7, up to date, iTunes up to date as well), I have tried redownloading the IPSW and even using the shift+restore and manually selecting the .IPSW file, and to be honest, I give up! If anyone can help, I'd truly appreciate it. Thanks!
PS: I also tried pressing menu+down for 6 seconds to restart, I tried pressing menu+play to restart, I tried pressing menu+down 6 secs and then menu+play 6 seconds for the so called DFU mode, nothing works, the Apple TV just restarts back to the "connect to itunes picture" along with the fast continuous white light flashing.

Yes - it won't let you install the 32 bit version on a 64 bit machine.
I've had a cursory look at the SP1 release notes, and couldn't spot anything vital - what critical stuff do you know of in SP1?
I don't want to have to go through all the pain of setting up VM's, reinstalling iTunes, getting all my album art back in etc. (though I could, as I do have Win7 pro). I've also heard that running iTunes in Windows 7 compatibility mode might help. Can anyone confirm whether that actually works?
I think it's in Apple's gift to fix this issue, given that they say that they support Windows 7. So far I've had no feedback from a mail I sent to Apple, and the number of users reporting this problem keeps going up and up.
I want Apple to recognise that there is a problem, and then I want them to fix it.

I bought a 2nd generation ipod touch from someone on CL and it appeared to me that it just needed to be plugged into the computer and be synced with itunes. But its stuck in recovery mode. When I plug it into my computer, itunes says it sees the ipod is in recovery mode and needs to be restored. Sout t I click on restore and it tries to restore it, but then it stops in the process and gives me error message 1611. I looked up this error message and it has to do with system security. I messed with my security settings and I still get this message. I tried using my home computer instead of my laptop and it still gave me the same message. Ive also tried holding down the power and home button for several seconds and it still goes back to recovery and gives me the same error message when I try to restore it. Also, itunes recognizes my ipod, but my computer does not.. Can anyone help me? Do I just have to bring the ipod into an apple store and have them figure it out? Thanks in advance!

As pdroth said, you should have gotten a backup made when you started the update of iOS. If you cannot find a backup, and the phone is in recovery mode, there are no futher suggestions to make. To get the phone working again you have to restore. You cannot force a backup at this time since it is already in recovery mode. It will not allow anything else but a restore at this point.
