Stuck in recovery mode and won't register in itunes

Hi,
My iPad 3 is stuck with the itunes recovery screen (the black screen the the blue itunes logo and usb cable) and to top it all off i can't get i to register in itunes (one very unhappy bunny).
So far i've unistalled itune and every other bit of apple software, restarted my pc, reinstalled itunes, restarted my pc and then opened up itunes
i have then disconnect the USB cable from ipad and pressed and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time to turn ipad off, followed by pressing and holding the Home button, reconnected the USB cable to the ipad, so it turns back on (showing the black screen with blue itunes logo) releasing home button, according to all the help i should have go a message to say it's trying to recover but nope, nada, nothing
Ipad doesn't even want to even show in itunes, have even stopped and restarted apple mobile device service to see if this works.
Have even changed the usb connection cable to see if that was the issue, but its not as my iphone connected fine
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as i'm kinda running out of ideas, i've already tried this 3 times and it's really now wanting to play

have now sorted, decided to retry all of the above, on the super old & very slow pc i have for when my neice and nephew come over
now just need to set it all up again as a new ipad

  • My iphone 5 is in recovery mode and won't connect to itunes

I was trying to update my phone using itunes but now my iphone 5 is stuck in recovery mode and won't connect to itunes.

    Hello nancarter97,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iPhone 5.  I would be concerned too if my iPhone was stuck in recovery mode and not recognized in iTunes so that you can restore it.
I recommend the following article for the issue you described and specifically this step:
    5. Use iTunes to restore your device.
If you don't see your device in iTunes, follow these steps for Mac or these for Windows.

  • My  ipad i have been restore it yesterday my computer shut down in the middel now my ipad2 stuck in recovery mode and cant be detect by itunes ?

my  ipad i have been restore it yesterday my computer shut down in the middel now my ipad2 stuck in recovery mode and cant be detect by itunes and it is jaikbroken ?

Try these steps. If it doesn't work the first time, try a second time.
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off. (If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.)
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on. (Note: If you see the screen that shows you are out of battery, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again.)
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert: "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode..."
Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
    Hope this helps!

  • My iPod touch is stuck in recovery mode and won't restore?

Okay my Ipod Touch is stuck in recovery mode and will not restore because "the ipod software update server cannot be contacted". I have tried to restart my computer, restart my ipod, tried different computers, and re-intalled AND updated my itunes and it still will not restore. It is stuck on the picture of the usb cable pointing to itunes and won't do anything else. I'm trying to restore it because my memory was full and I wanted to clean it out and now the ipod is useless, please help me restore it!

    Update Server
    Try:
    - Powering off and then back on your router.
    - iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
    - Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
    Public DNS — Google Developers
    OpenDNS IP Addresses
    - For one user uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes resolved the problem
    - Try on another computer/network
    - Wait if it is an Apple problem

  • Ipod stuck in recovery mode and won't restore. says it can't connect to the network.

My son tried to jailbreak his ipod touch like an idiot and of course it did not work. Now his ipod is stuck in recovery mode and I can't get it to restore. I get a message that says:the ipod software update server could not be contacted. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later. I have internet access and everything is working but itunes can't connect to it. Why? I have been having issues with itunes for a couple weeks now. I can't connect to the store and redeem itunes cards either.

Make sure the setting for your security software allow iTunes to contact Apple servers:
iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues
As for the iPod, since he tried to modify the software, the only thing that could help would be DFU mode , we can't help much more, problems with jailbroken devices can't be discussed in theses forums, due to the Terms of Use.
Your son has to ask those people for help, which encouraged him to jailbreak his device.

  • My iPhone 3 is stuck in recovery mode and won't restore

My iPhone 3g is stuck in recovery mode and when I try to restore it in Itunes it gives me error 1015. How can I fix this??!?!?!?!?!

Your phone is jailbroken.  We can offer you no help here.  You forfeited that when you jailbroke you phone.

  • My iPhone 5 is stuck in recovery mode and won't restore. Please help me!

My iPhone is stuck in recovery mode since I tried a restore Before that it kept powering on and powering off eratically and lingered on the white apple screen. I thought an install would help. Retore attempts always fail, I get the message "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occured (9)." Please help me!

Would it make any difference if the restore was to a back up or to factory settings?
Yes, if your backup is somehow corrupted, restoring to that backup will put the problem back to the iPhone.
Restore as new and manually put back your content is the preferred method.
Also the restore cuts out and fails when the restore is at the stage of 'verifying with apple'. Is there any reason apple wouldn't 'authorise' a restore?
When restoring, the IOS will be verified with Apple server.
Are you using PC? If so, disable anti-virus and firewall then try again.

  • Ipad stuck in recovery mode and won't restore--error code 1604

I tried to backup and update my ipad this evening and when doing so it now is stuck on the itunes and USB screen.  When I connect the Ipad to the Itunes it says the Ipad is in recivery mode and to restore.  I click ok and it tells me i can't restore the ipad and gives me an error code of 1604.  I have no idea where to go from here or what happened.  Any ideas?

Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
       1. Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
       2. Restore and wait for error 1604.
       3. When prompted, click OK.
       4. Close and reopen iTunes while iPhone remains connected.
       5. iPhone should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
       6. Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

  • My iphone is stuck on recovery mode and won't restore

My phone randomly turned off, then when i turned it back on it was on restore mode. i plugged it in to itunes and it said there was a problem and that it needed to be updated and restored. I processed to update and restore it a numerous amount of times, but each time it finishes it comes up with the notification that there is a problem and the iphone is still in recovery mode. How do i fix it??

You'll have to get your device checked by visiting an Apple Store or Authorized Apple Service Provider, your problem might be hardware related.

  • My iPad mini is stuck in reboot mode and won't connect to itunes

My iPad mini shut down in the middle of me using an application and now is stuck in the reboot mode between the Apple logo and the wheel of death.  I have tried to do the hard reboot many times and it just continues to circle around in the reboot loop.  I tried to do the "volume up" trick as well that worked for some people and have had no luck.
I plugged in the iPad to see if I can just do a factory restore via iTunes and as soon as my iTunes recognizes the device is plugged in, it then asks me to "Please respond on your iPad" yet I cannot see anything on the iPad so it won't even allow me to do a factory restore.
Is there anything I can do to just reset the whole iPad and start from scratch?  I don't know what app or program did this to it but now I'm stuck without any means to use it or even reset it!
    Thank you!

thanks for the reply, brian, but unfortunately that is what i meant by the hard reboot.  i've done that many, many times and it's still stuck.  nothing is helping and i can't even get it to sync to iTunes to restore it.
    thanks anyway!

  • Iphone 4 stuck in recovery mode and will not restore in itunes. HELP!

    Hey Guys
I tried to jailbreak my iphone (bad idea obviously) and ever since, its been screwing up.
At first, it was stuck on the apple logo- Then I followed some videos on Youtube and it was stuck on the Pineapple from Redsnow..
NOW its stuck in restore mode (the screen with the USB and the Itunes symbol) I have tried to restore it 3 times and it gives me an error message (1604) or it doesn't even restore.
HELPP! It's been like this all day. What could I do?

FIRST, edit your hosts file (which was corrupted by the jailbreak process) and remove any references to gs.apple.com; delete the whole lines and save the file. If you don't know how to do this you will have to get help, and it shows that jailbreaking was a bigger mistake than you thought.
Next, connect to a USB port directly on the computer, not a hub and disconnect all USB devices that consume power or bandwidth (like USB drives).
Put it into DFU mode to restore. With the phone disconnected hold HOME and SLEEP until a black screen appears. Immediately release SLEEP and continue holding HOME. While holding connect to iTunes and continue holding. After a while (perhaps several minutes) iTunes should recognize the phone. When it does release the HOME button and hope for the best.
