Stuck in Recovery Mode, cannot restore

This morning I connected my iPhone 3GS to my computer and itunes told me it couldn't recognize my phone and needed to restore. This had never happened before but I clicked restore anyways but recieved an error message. After about an hour of trial and error going through Apple's diagnostics I fixed the problem by enabling Itunes in Norton Security, which had just updated recently so I thought that was the issue. Itunes began letting me begin the restore process (without showing an error/failure message) but simply freezes every time halfway through the update. Each time the bar at the top will will up about halfway and then stop forever. If anyone can help me with this issue I would really appreciate it! Obviously I use my phone everyday and it is completely unusable in it's current state. Thank you for any input!!!

No it is not, I've had it for about two months now and have updated it on this computer daily without error. Yesterday I finally got money on my account and downloaded some apps and this is the first time I've connected it to the computer since then, but that;s the only thing I can think of that's changed. I uninstalled norton completely, rebooted, and have no other firewalls. I made an appt with the Express Lane support for half an hour from now so im hoping that they can help me.

  • IPod stuck on recovery mode cannot restore error 3004

    Hello,
My iPod Touch 5th gen is stuck on recovery mode for two days now. I have lost all of my important files, but I am hoping to make it work again.
I was updating to ios 8 the other day and suddenly my iPod turned off and was stuck on recovery mode. No big deal, but then, as I was to restore it, iTunes only says that "The iPod 'iPod' could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3004)."
I'm here now because I have tried all of the fixes. I have tried to put it on DFU mode (didn't work), changed my DNS settings, updated my iTunes, uninstalling, reinstalling it, turned my PC on and off, used another PC, but nothing has worked. I used some external programs that can get my iDevice to get in and out of DFU mode, but it has not worked.
I am on PC, Windows 8.
    Hope anyone can help.

    DId you try:
Try to restore or update on another computer with a different Internet connection.

  • Phone stuck in Recovery Mode - cannot restore (error code 9)

Help. I tried to update my iPhone to the latest software and instead of doing this it has now gone in to Recovery Mode (with the yellow triangle and the message to connect to iTunes). When I reconnect it to iTunes it tells me that I have to restore the phone. iTunes then tries to do this but it is unable to complete, Stating "An unkown error occurred (9)."
Any ideas on how to bring my phone back to life?

I had the same thing happen. After reinstalling itunes and trying lots of things with Applecare over the phone, they put in a repair order and are sending me the packaging to send it in with. The computer could see the phone, but the phone didn't recognize that it was connected to Itunes.

  • IpodTouch 5 stuck in recovery mode, wont restore.

My ipod is stuck in recovery mode, when i connect it to itunes and press "Restore Ipod" which then downloads iOS 6.1.2, when the ipod software update is complete im left once again with the "Restore Ipod" option which does the whole process again like it didnt happen, ive downloaded the update atleast 5 times and turned off anti virus and firewall.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IOS 8.1.3 get stuck into recovery mode after restoring

AAfter updating my iPhone 5s to the newest iOS it went into revovery mode and everytime I try restoring it it will just get suck into recovery mode

Honestly, If you are stuck in recovery mode.  I would visit the nearest apple store and meet genius specialist to get you squared away.  They may get you over this hump or simply swap out your device if is a hardware issue.  I'm sorry you are faced with this issue.

  • IPhone 3G stuck in recovery mode doesnt restore

I tried upgrading my iPhone 3g iOS from 4.1 to 4.2 .... It did not upgrade and now its stuck in recovery mode and does not even restore. Now its stuck in recovery mode. What to do?

    Hello there MKkhann,
I would recommend resetting your iPhone. This will not take it out of recovery mode, but should 'unstick' it. It may take more than 1 attempt to be successful:
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
From: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

  • Ipod is stuck in recovery mode: wont restore

i spaced out and connected my ipod (mac formatted) to my friends vista pc. ever since then my ipod has not been responsive, figuring i had all my music backed up i tried to restore it and it has been stuck in recovery mode whenever i connect it to a mac ever since. my brother has a windows pc and it connects perfectly to it... help please?

It's your penance for trying to steal music.
Hook it up to your computer and check System Monitor to make sure it is still showing up. If it is, use Disk Utility and repair the disk. Then restore it in iTunes.

  • Itunes warning message stuck at Recovery mode Please restore

I plugged my ipod touch in while it was in pwned dfu mode and it said Itunes has detected an ipod in recovery mode please restore. So i tried to click ok but the message wouldn`t go away then i tried to push the X button and it was frozen please help!!!

If iTunes itself is frozen and won't close, you might try to plug the iPod (in DFU/recovery mode) into a different computer. It makes no difference which computer restores the iPod to defaults, as long as you plug it into your primary computer to then restore from backup.

  • Iphone stuck in recovery mode wont restore keep getting errors

iphone 3gs is stuck in recovery it will not turn on unless plugged in and in restore mode saying to connect to itunes. when i restore it i get errors 3194, 1604 and 1611, i dont know what did this and im not sure what firmware the iphone is. itunes will recognise it in recovery mode but the computer will not. in dfu mode it will not restore either.

Well, as a start, Recboot hosed the network database on your computer, which could be the problem. Especially if you had used it at some time in the past. Look in /etc/hosts, and if you see any lines containing "gs.apple.com" delete those lines.
From your profile you are also using a version of OS X that is not compatible with iTunes 10, which is required to update iPhones. You need OS X Leopard 10.5.8 as a minimum.
See: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694#error9 for other tips. You could have a bad or dirty connector on the iPhone also. Try cleaning it with a soft, dry toothbrush.

  • Ipod stuck in recovery mode and restore fails every time

Hi, Just bought a refurb ipod touch (2nd gen 8gb). As soon as i plug it in and boot up itunes it says its discovered an ipod in recovery mode and that i need to restore it. Problem is the restore always fails. Not really sure what else to do? Ipod screen just displays the usb connect to itunes diagram all the time,
Do i have to send it back already or does anyone have a miracle cure?
    Thanks

    Welcome to the forum.
Try [Unable to update or restore|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808]. You may have to try this more than once. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, try [Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1495]. (If you are on a Mac, there's a Mac link on that page).
If you device does not appear in iTunes or cannot be restored in iTunes (and you're running Windows) try [iPod is not recognized by Windows due to driver installation issues|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538]
If you are running any antivirus, spyware, firewall, etc. that might be interfering with this process be sure to turn them off. Also plug your USB cord into a different port than you tried before.

  • Ipod Touch 2g stuck in recovery mode after restore, no error msgs

Help, please.  I have an Ipod Touch 2generation that was my older sons and I wanted to restore it to factory to give to his younger brother.  I get the message that is was restored successfully (Windows 7, no error messages or codes from Itunes) but when that message goes away and the ipod shows back up in itunes is still says its in recovery mode.  I've tried different usb cables, different usb ports, turning off my anti-virus firewall protection, using a different pc (Windows Vista) and still the same thing.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try placing the iPod in DFU mode and then restoring it:

  • Phone stuck in recovery mode wont restore

the other day i plugged my phone into itunes and it started to update the software but became frozen so i unplugged it. When i plugged it back in itunes detected a phone in recovery mode but it doesnt recognise the model, serial numberor name. when i try to restore, every thing seems to go to plan but it freezes and wont finish restoring. can anyone help please?

Received excellent tech. support from Apple on this issue and after a full day of screwing around was able to get our Iphone up and working again without many of the aps and contacts that we have recently added. I'm an older guy and this reminds me of my early windows experience and not what I would expect from Apple. This is not a comment on the quality of the tech support but on the software glitches. Get it right guys or someone is on your heels who will!

  • Ipod touch stuck in recovery mode / not restoring

Went to update my ipod touch, then it came up saying itunes has found an ipod in recovery mode, that I need to restore it.
So I go to restore it, it does it's thing, reaches the end of the bar on the ipod then comes up saying that it couldn't be restored.
    Exact message being:
"The ipod could not be restored. An unknown error occured (6)"
So, what do I have to do to get it working?

    Hello mtd001,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
The only suggestion I have for you is to take a look at this Apple support document related to your issue. Make sure to work through each step completely as necessary.

  • Iphone stuck in recovery mode after restoring

Ok, so I was having the "searching..." signal for a long time, and then I decided to restore, after the restoration was done the iphone entered into recovery mode, i tried restoring again many times with no success, itunes keeps giving me an error (-1). The iphone is not jailbroken.

i really dont know what can cause it... best guess, somehow the iOS is not being saved correctly on the device...
