I am stuck in rgion 1 with my DVD and would like to know if I can get back to region 2?

Region encoding is the mechanism that enables motion picture studios to control the worldwide release of their movies. It is required by the DVD Forum (http://www.dvdforum.org/forum.shtml) in all commercial hardware DVD players. Every DVD-Video disc contains one byte of data representing a region code, which limits where the disc can be played.

Once you have set the region in DVD Player five times it cannot be changed.

Usually if you have some kind of hardware failure there is some beeping during POST or most motherboards now have LED indicators to produce and error message based on the type of failure
So if its bad memory, not place properly, mismatched, processor not inserted properly, mismatched voltage or voltage connector not present etc it beeps or generates the error id.
Power supplies can be tested for failure. There are some walk throughs for testing just them with a switch, paperclip or a jumper (I'd suggest not doing this if you are not familiar with the dangers of electricity).
Memory can be tested with memory diagnostics programs like Memtest+
Processors can overheat if the proper precautions have not been taken usually you will get a POST beep or error code for that.
If the motherboard has no response then do the basics first:
Check power connectors and power supply. Once you determine that is not the case move on to other items like graphics cards in all the way or memory.

Stuck in Region

In using both English and American DVDs on my Apple I have inadvertently gotten stuck in Region 2. Although the computer had a countdown of the number of times I was allowed to change regions it gave NO indication that I would not be able to choose the final region (it actually said that I could change it once more) but I am now not able to play American DVDs. This is a problem that is compounded by the fact that I live in Grenada West Indies with no Apple support on the island. What do I do to get my DVD player permanently into Region 1? Please help!

If it's a PowerBook, why not try the correct PowerBook forum - same thing if it's a desktop machine. There has been talk in the PowerBook forums about unsupported hacks that may help you. There isn't much more we can do in the iDVD forum to help you.
As far as I know, there is no official Apple fix.
Computers don't make good DVD players for people like you who want to view DVDs from different regions.

DVD stuck on Region 3

A friend used by laptop and played sopme Region 3 DVDs. The DVD is now stuck on Region 3. I live in Europe and can not now play my European DVDs.
Can I reset the DVD firmware to allow me to revert to Region 2?
DVD is SD-R2212.

Hi, a friend of mine had also this problem with DVDs from the US.
He changed the region code in his software DVD-player on his toshiba notebook and after the 5th time he couldn't change it again.
We informed us at Toshiba hotline and they said that the last used region code is burned in the DVD-drive.
When you have this, you have to go to a toshiba service partner and they can reset it.
But pay attention, you have to pay for it!!!!

VM created from Windows 10 TP template stuck at region select page

I need use System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012 R2 to create VM with different locale settings.
Step:
Create VM with Windows 10 TP ISO.
Use local machine account 'A'.
Do some manual configuration.
Create VM template with this VM.
Template setting:
answer file with region settings (UI language, region, keyboard).
The OS type I select is Windows 8.1 or 64 bit 8.1 since there is no Windows 10.
I set the user ‘A’ and it’s password in admin password section.
Result:
When create VM from the template, it will stuck at select region page, and need manually do some settings then it could go to desktop.
When I use the same process to create Windows 8.1 VM template, the VM created from template will directly go to desktop.
Question:
It seems even I set locale related info in answer file, it’s doesn’t work for Windows 10 TP, how could I get the same result as Windows 8.1 template?

I don't know if you will get assistance with your issue, since it is not a supported deployment scenario.
I recommend you explore windows deployment as it relates to Windows 10 as there could easily be something that changed, or support for unattended specialization is just not turned on yet.

You must have a G4 iBook as the G3 models can only install up to 10.4.11.

Region of the dvd player blocked

Hello!! I've been trying to know what are the possible way to unblock my dvd player in my mackbook pro. Actually according to the application dvd player, I have only the right to change 4 times the region.Well I did it more than 4 times and now it's stuck in region 1. I need to know how it is possible to make the dvd player multiregion. I'd like to play any dvd, any time at any region. How is it possible to make it? Is there anysoftware, or other? I need solutions cause I spent so much time trying to fix it, and I can't think of anything!!

To make your SuperDrive region free you'll need a firmware patch although these are few and far between for the Matishita drives Apple uses. So, your best option is to see if Apple will do a manufactuer reset on your drive. This will get you another 5 changes (you can only do a manufacturer reset so many times as well so this is not a long term solution).
The best option you have is to buy a cheap external drive with which you can patch to be RPC-1 region free.

Super-Drive region playability issues...

I work at an authorized campus reseller, and a professor stopped in and said he makes frequent trips between the US and Italy. However, he has switched the region of his DVD player so many times that it is now stuck in region-2 which is europe, of course. Is there any firmware or easy fix thing I can do or download.

the EASIEST solution for your prof would be to start using the VLC player instead of Apple's DVD Player.
You can download it for free at videolan.org. It is extremely clever and well made, very slick, has a good design, plays virtually EVERY possible format available - and it does not care at all what region your DVD comes from.
Just remember, after you installed VLC, to change the CD/DVD preferences in the System Prefs (under the Apple menu) to open VLC when you insert a DVD - otherwise the annoying Apple DVD Player would come up nagging...
Ah, I forgot, VLC is free.

Can't change DVD region for the last time?

I wish to change the DVD region setting on my emac and have one more left from the 5 changes allowed but when I try to change it, it comes up with an alert along the lines of "There was a problem changing the region on your drive." How can I resolve this? It is a newish 1.25ghz Superdrive model.

I also am having this problem, was told to restart and hold down Alt Apple, P & R at the same time and wait for 3 dongs, and try to change region again, but did not work, I am stuck on region 1 need to change to region 2, the same problem it will be the last change.

Changing the DVD region

A friend has bought a second hand Mac Mini. The DVD player is stuck on Region 1, presumably having exhausted its 5 available opportunities to switch. Is there any way he can switch it to Region 2?

Replacing the DVD drive would work. Try playing DVDs with VLC. For many Macs, it will play DVDs even if the DVD and drive regions don't match.

I've resolved this now.
The drive did have one change remaining but when I asked it to change the region back to 2, it insisted on my inserting a region 2 disk - which I thought I had done. But in fact the disk (like most of the region 2 disks in my collection) was in fact Regions 2 + 4. I had to inster a pure region 2 disk in order to change the region back to 2. Eventually I found one!

Please help: i suddenly can't play dvds

i'm using os 10.9.2 with an internal superdrive and external asus blu-ray drive (sbw-06d2x-u). i'm stuck with region code 3 on dvd player and use vlc to play the rest. all of a sudden, i'm having problems watching dvds.
1. inserting into internal disc drive
all discs churn a while, then are spat out
2. inserting into external blu-ray drive
- blu-rays: no problem
- region 3 dvds:
vlc: it can play the disc, but video/audio quality is horrendous. playing the copied version is fine though.
dvd player: no problem
copying: no problem
- region 1 dvds:
vlc: after opening the disc, "rdisk1" appears on the playlist, before changing to the title of the dvd with a yellow triangle at the side and the duration of the film. there's no error message - it just doesn't play.
copying: i get this error message "The Finder can't complete the operation because some data in 'VTS_01_0.VOB' can't be read or written (Error code -36)".
i suspect these problems started happening after a recent security upgrade. i've tried repairing the hard disk and pressing apple-R at startup, to no avail. please help.

so i sent the mbp for a diagnosis: it has a faulty superdrive, track pad and noisy fan(s). the external blu-ray/dvd player is fine. we tried dvds from code 1, 2, 3, 4 - only the code 3 disc (which region i'm stuck with using apple's dvd player) was able to be played on vlc. the guy said that the problem was to do with region lock.
before i send it elsewhere for a second opinion, can someone please confirm whether if the default dvd player is locked in a particular region code, dvds of other region codes can still be played on vlc or mplayer?

my son took my computer overseas and used it to watch movies that were not in myregion australia....now it is stuck on region 2 which does not allow me to change it to play australian movies.....is there anyway i can re-format my dvd to change it to the australian region...or do i have to buy another dvd drive ?? apparently i can only change the region 5 times grrrrrrrrrrrrr this is what he did.... thanks bob

to determine if you want to tackle the replacement yourself.
Even so, the least-expensive option will be an external USB DVD drive — which unfortunately imposes a decided portability penalty.

Dvd drive locked

I have a mac book 13' ( late 2008 ) some how i have no changes left after i had 1 left and then one day i rebooted my laptop and then it was stuck in region 1, i have tried many ways to change it to region free but they all just seem to not work, douse any one know how to change the region?

The browser is stuck in native region language and don´t want to change to english.

Installed a fresh Firefox from your site on a brandnew lenovo t430 with Windows 8. My default region is Iceland, so firefox went straight to Icelandic. I went to preferences and deleted icelandic and put english in the language window. Nothing changes and im still stuck in icelandic.

hello, the settings in content > languages only apply to the contents on webpages. to change the language of the user interface please download an english version from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ and install it on top of your current version.
