Stuck in ScreenSaver Limbo

Every now and then, ever since 10.9.1 beta and now 10.9.2, the screen saver will be "stuck", and I won't be able to enter my password in the login window.  It's like the login box cannot "grab" focus.  Command-Tab, Alt-Tab, etc does not bring the login prompt to the front or allow me to type in it.  Pressing any key gives me a beep, indicating that I'm typing in a window that doesn't take keystrokes.
I do run my 15" Retina macbook at 2560 x 1600, but the problem still exists when I'm using normal Retina resolutions.

  • HT201210 Stuck in Activation Limbo, How do I get out of it?

I have an iPhone 4s. I've had iOS7 ever since the beta came out. I received it with my iOS Developer Certificate.
Last night my phone just went into the Activation Mode, like when you turn your iPhone on for the first time. It is stuck in Activation Limbo. It will not move past the screen after you select a Wi-Fi connection. This message appears...
"Your iPhone could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable. Try connecting your iPhone to iTunes to activate it, or try again in a couple of minutes.
If this problem persists, contact Apple Support at apple.com/support."
Well I've connected my iPhone to iTunes and it says my software is out of date and needs to be updated. When I check for updates, it says my sortware is up-to-date and won't do anything. It won't even let me back up my phone.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a way I can get my Phone back so I can use it? Do I just have to wait until it just randomly with Activate?

    Hi
I am having this exact same problem. Apparently you need to put the phone in DFU mode, then restore the phone (i would advise backing up your phone before hand) However my phone will not allow me to do this so i am stuck as well.

  • My mail is stuck in white limbo.

My mail is stuck in white limbo.  I can't get it out by restarting or force quitting the app, it always comes back in the same white limbo stuck mode.  It's stuck in the middle of something that I can't cancel, how can I fix this?  Thanks!

Did you already try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose any data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.

  • Stuck in Warranty Limbo - Need RMA for MFG limited warranty - Z10 Black Screen - USB not recognized (yes I've tried all the tips from other posts)

Here's to hoping a Blackberry employee reads this and can help me out.
I'm stuck in warranty limbo with my unlocked Z10. Bought new off Amazon.ca beginning of April-2014. While on Vacation the phone blue screened and died. It's outside of the online retailers 90 day exchange policy, in which case all I have left is the manufacturers limited warranty. Tried to contact Blackberry and they directed me to my carrier Telus, even though I did not purchase the phone through them. Telus was very helpful, we worked through troublshooting together, but unfortunately got to the same conclusion that the phone needs to go back for a hardware issue. They kindly offerred to RMA the phone for me through their system, however since I did not purchase the phone through them and it is an unlocked world phone it does not recognize the IMEI so they couldn't complete the process for me. There is absolutely no luck getting any help through any of the multiple Blackberry phone numbers I've called. Any help sorting this out would be much appreciated. I will drive the phone to the office in Waterloo if need be.

You're probably going to have to drive the phone to Waterloo.
Here's the situation: You bought the phone from Amazon which has a 90-day exchange warranty. That's mistake #1. Then you registered  the phone for service on Telus' network but the phone wasn't purchased from them so they won't honor any warranty claims (which is their right because they didn't make any money from your purchase of the phone from them). You're in a catch-22 situation. There's really nothing I can advise you to do except buy your next phone from the carrier with which you have monthly service.
Not much help but that's how I see it. Perhaps others can enlighten me with a different point of view. Cheers.

  • Hard Drive stuck in RAID limbo

I formatted a 186.3 GB and 279.5 GB drive into an MS-DOS Concatenated RAID. I did this because I had read that you can add on new drives without reformatting the whole RAID set.

Even Disk Utility's Help files says that it's possible.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=DiskUtility/10.5/en/duh1948.html
Well, I added another 186.3 GB drive, but the new space doesn't appear. I read that on +HFS setups adding drives may not work but I'm using a FAT32 setup. I don't understand where I went wrong.
Right now the drive is just sitting here. The RAID won't mount without it but it's space isn't being recognized so it's just stuck in limbo. Can anybody tell me how I can allow the space to be accessed or how to separate the drive? Anything is better than it just doing nothing.
The drives are located externally through a firewire Coolgear CGS-213FB brideboard with an Inito 2430L chip. The board allows for 4 drives.

Greetings and welcome to the Apple boards.
Have you seen this hard drive replacement manual? It does mention something about using a flat head screwdriver to pry apart hinges when you meet resistance.

  • Songs stuck in "sync" limbo

I've had several songs stuck in dotted-cloud limbo for, in a few cases, over a year.
Is there a way to fix this?

    Hi,
The ALAC format is causing problems. There are other threads on this topic.
A workaround is required to solve this problem. If you have the original CD, delete ALAC versions and rerip as AAC. Update match, tracks should either be matched or upload. You will now have 256 kpbs files in the cloud. Next, rerip CDs as ALAC and replace AAC versions on your hard drive.
If you don't have originals, convert ALAC files in iTunes to AAC and update match.

  • Home folder stuck in screensaver list in system preferences.

Help! I inadvertently put my home folder in the screensaver list in system preferences. When I access the screensaver list in system preferences, it causes an immediate spinning ball that I have to force quit. I cannot use a screensaver and I cannot create a guest user. How do I get my home folder out of the screensaver list in system preferences? Thanks.

I have a document stuck in my finder sidebar, and it will not delete using the command/drag approach.  I cannot even highlight it without it opening.  Nothing is working.  Why is such a simple thing taking so much time?  Apple is supposed to be intuitive and easy, that is why I paid 3x as much for this MacBook as I could have for a pc.  Please help!

  • Stuck in a limbo: can't install Safari or Lion/Mountain Lion, can't access App Store

If someone would take up this challenge and attempt to solve it with me, I would appreciate it! I have troubleshooted for 2 days now to no avail.
    This is what happened:
    1) I accidentally installed Safari 6.0, even if I have Lion 10.7. which doesn't run the new version
    2) This disabled my use of Safari and my access to App Store
    3) With a combination of AppDelete + Pacifist I tried deleting all Safari files, and re-installing old Safari 5.4 from scratch.
I rebooted, repaired permissions and did a disk check.
    4) Rebooted again, tried to open the newly installed Safari, but it gives an error:
"Check with the developer to make sure Safari works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X."
    5) At this point I thought to revert back to a previous point in Time Machine. Unfortunately all the points in Time Machine somehow showed Safari 6.0 (even a month-old points), so reverting back to an old point didn't help.
    6) I try logging into AppStore to upgrade to Mountain Lion, but I can't do that, since it needs Safari to run and I don't have a Safari anymore!
    7) Now I tried re-installing Lion from restart + cmd+R, and it asked for Apple ID to start the installation.
--> At this point I am getting desperate, as this computer was purchased second-hand, so I don't have the Apple ID used to install Lion!
    8) I try searching for Apple's official support, but obviously my warranty has expired, besides it's based in another country so they can only call cellphones from that country!
So I cannot enter App Store; reinstall Safari; reinstall Lion; or upgrade to Mountain Lion. I have no access to Apple official support. I currently work in a developing country with limited access to any MAC support.
I don't know what to try anymore!
    - How can I enter App Store without Safari?
    - How can I reinstall Lion without the original Apple ID?
    - How can I upgrade to Mountain Lion without App Store?
    I'm STUCK! Please help!!

    Anyone?
I finally managed to download the newest combo update and installed it successfully!
However Safari still doesn't open. It keeps saying the following:
Check with the developer to make sure Safari works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X.
I also finally got access to App Store: but the download of Mountain Lion doesn't complete, because it seems to need Safari.
So I'm still stuck with the two issues:
    i) Safari doesn't work, and I can't get it to work unless I can reinstall/upgrade the OS.
ii) I can't upgrade the OS without Safari!
--- unless someone knows a way to install Lion/Mountain Lion _without_ Safari??
    Thanks for all your help!

  • I have 3 apps stuck in loading limbo. Can't uninstall, and won't sync

They are still in waiting status so I can't even uninstall them. I downloaded the latest update for the iTunes store, and the latest upgrade for the iPad, and that seemed to solve it, but then after agreeing to the new iTunes agreement when making an in app purchase, the waiting icons came back but the good icons for the apps still worked. Then after another in app purchase, the good icons disappeared, and now I'm stuck with the waiting icons again.  Yes the apps are in my iTunes account, and I've synced until I'm blue in the face, so that's not it
Does this make any sense? Can anyone help?

Sign out of your Store Account...
    Try a Reset...
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.
    Sign Back into your Account...
Conversely download the Apps to iTunes on the computer you usually Sync with... Connect your iPad... Sync the Apps...

  • HT204053 HELP!!  I am stuck in iCloud limbo!

I accidentally used a different email address for iCloud which I forgot the password for.  I want it to be the same Apple ID as my iTunes.  I have a 5th Gen iPod. I have tried all the advice on Apple and community and nothing I try works.  I can't reset it because it does not send me anything to that email address and yes, I checked all spam, etc.  I have tried answering security questions and it tells me my birthday is incorrect, and yes, I know what that is.  I can't shut off "find my iPod" to reset as shown on Apple as you have to know your password.  I can't delete it, restart it, etc!  The "Sign in to iCloud" pops up like every 5 seconds on my iPod making it nearly impossible to use it!!  I can't use many features like Facetime as they are tied into the iCloud and password for it.  I am lost as to what to try next.  ANY ideas!??  Thank you so much in advance!!

Not sure what you mean that you used a "different email address for your iCloud". Different from what? Are you saying you use a different Apple/iCloud ID for everything except for iTunes, and that you use a separate Apple ID for iTunes?
If you forgot the password to the Apple/iCloud ID that is signed onto your iPod, you can go to Manage your Apple ID and click on Reset Password, then type in the Apple/iCloud ID you want to reset the password for. If you cannot remember the answers to your Security Questions, you can contact Apple Support to have them reset for you:
Apple - My Apple ID (Manage your Apple ID)
ACCOUNT SECURITY CONTACT NUMBERS (if you need your Security Questions reset)

  • AppleVision CRT stuck in resolution limbo

I'm not sure where best to post this but will start here... A few months ago I brought home an old AppleVision 17" CRT from the office graveyard and started using it with my G5, because its viewable area was a little bigger than that of my NEC MultiSync 70, and I liked how it looked.
Tonight I was trying to change the desktop image and getting frustrated because I couldn't seem to get the portion of the image I wanted to fill the screen no matter how I fiddled with the original in Photoshop. So I started fooling around with the resolution.
Unlike with the MultiSync, the G5 doesn't recognize exactly what monitor this is, identifying it only as "VGA Display." So some of the listed resolutions don't work and the screen goes black if you select those. It's supposed to come back and offer you the chance to revert to the previous setting if you click the mouse or hit return, I forget which, while you're in the black screen, and that has worked before. But this time I did something spastic, I think. It went back to black and all sorts of keystroke combinations failed to bring it back. Forcing power down and restarting (twice) only got it as far as the solid blue, blank screen; then it went black again.
I disconnected it and reconnected the Multisync, which is working fine. I hoped that would serve to reset something, but when I tried reconnecting the AppleVision it still couldn't finish booting up.
So then I connected the AppleVision to my main PM 7600. On the first boot the progress bar stalled at an inch or so, without displaying any icons. But the second time, it finished the boot and everything is displaying normally.
This is all beyond me--I have no idea what happened. Is the display "unstuck" now and likely to work with the G5 again? Should I trash com.apple.systempreferences.plist first? Or is it better (for the sake of the computers and/or the safety of operating these old CRTs) to leave well enough alone, i.e., let the 7600 run the AppleVision and the G5 run the not-so-ancient MultiSync?

    Kathi,
Glad things started to resolve in your favor. : D
You said "If I try to go to the smaller (?) resolutions, e.g. 1024 x 768, the color depth changes from millions to thousands. On the G5, it was set at 1024 x 768, 60 Hz. "
It is all about math. If you have 640 x 480 pixels on the screen and each pixel has a colour depth of 8, then you need the computational power of 6404808 = 2,457,600 (bits or bytes - I need to check that brain cell) to handle that much data.
    A colour depth of 256 is 640480256=78,643,200
A colour depth of 32,768 (or what is referred to as thousands is 64848032,768=10,066,329,600
A colour depth of 16.2 million colours (introduced in 1987 with the Mac II - which also caused panic in the IBM camp that boasted 256 colors at the time) is 640480approx 12,200,000=4,976,640,000,000
    (4.97664 × 10 to the 12th)
A color depth of thousands at a resolution of
    102476832,768=25 769 803 776
Now jump to millions of colors. That calculates out at 1024768162000000=12740198400000
or 1.274... to the 13th power.
Once you hit an integer with thirteen zeros after it, you need a lot more video ram. I will try and find a website with a good illustration of the video math that happens at 30 frames per second. Forget the math that Excel is doing inside a spreadsheet, that is child's play compared to what video processors are doing thirty frames a second to bring motion images to the screen.
    Just something to ponder.

  • Stuck in XP limbo.

Start off by saying Hi and I need help.
My old hard drive was full on my current computer. I bought a new one and a guy from work did what he called a ghost image of my old hard drive onto the new one. I had to redo a few tiny tings here and there but overall everything swooped over nicely. Now the bad thing, I couldn't open my iTunes because it gave me an error code 7 or something like that. Told me to reinstall iTunes. After about a dozen or two times trying different things I decided to say screw it and I deleted it and want to start all over. Get iTunes uninstalled no problem, but I cant reinstall it because it says I don't have quick time, but I do in reality. I tried to update my quick time but it says I have the current version. So I try to uninstall that and it says "installation source for this product is unavailable. Verify source exists and i can access it." I.E. I cant delete it.
I tried to do the clean up links a few people have posted on here but it wont let me delete bonjour either, on that one it says "access denied, make sure disk is not full, write protected, or in use." Its not in use I can tell you that.
So someone please help me, the iPod is key to nice rides on the bike around the lake and I cant do anything but charge it right now....kind of lame. I thank you ahead of time!

I have tried windows clean up and the office update per a few other threads, no difference now however when I try to install iTunes it pops up "Older version of Quick time cannot be removed. Contact my support group."
I click ok, in that window and the window that pops up right after says "Installation of quicktime did not complete successfully. iTunes needs quicktime"
When I update my quicktime separately, it says I have current version.

  • Stuck in upgrade limbo

I was running Aperture 2 on a Macbook Pro. When I upgraded to Aperture 3, I had only 2 or 3 GB free; Aperture now wishes to upgrade the library, for which it requires more disk space than I have spare (though, annoyingly, it doesn't tell me how much more). I could in theory free up some disk space by deleting unwanted photos, as they take up by far the majority of the disk, but, of course, I now cannot do this as I can't start Aperture to do so!
I suspect I'm going to have to re-install Aperture 2 to delete some photos before upgrading a second time, but if anyone has a better suggestion, I'd be grateful.

I use an external hard drive to store my aperture library of photos,
Hard disks are quite cheap to purchase these days.
This would prevent you having to reinstall Aperture 2 and delete your images.

  • Stuck in "Preparation" mode

TC 500 MB, seems to be backing up my 2 other computers on network (mac mini, iMac G5) without problems (first back-up ethernet, then subsequent ones through airport). Same true for MacBook pro, but now MacBook pro gets stuck in "Preparation" mode and never backs-up. It will stay there for 24 hours, never advancing to actual back-up. I tried multiple times, tried with ethernet and that doesn't make a difference. rebooted, repaired permissions etc (usual nonsense), to no avail. Also, When I did have it in Preparation, I could initially for several minutes, hear lots of hard drive writing activity in the Time Capsule, but then it stopped and nothing happens. The only way I could get it to back-up with Time Machine was to delete the original back-up from the TC and start over. Backing up now,
Anyone else stuck in Preparation limbo? Any other solutions?
    thanks
    roger

I am having the same problem, my MacBook Air is stuck in "Preparation" state for hours/days. I even updated to the recent Time Capsule software, but no change.
