Stuck in Slideshow

I'm having a huge problem with my Macbook Pro (first problem ever).  I was setting up a slideshow with music.  Once it started playing I couldn't get it to stop. I've done a control+alt+esc and that doesn't work.  I've let it run completely down and then brought it back up and it just goes back to the same thing. I've hit the power button and brought up the restart / sleep / cancel / Shut Down and clicked Shut Down.  That doesn't work either.
Anything else I can try??

Looks like I figured it out myself.  I held the power button down for more than 5 seconds and it shut down.  I've since started it back up and it's fine.

My I mac gets stuck in iPhoto and will not play a slideshow just the first picture.

    Hi, ppricec.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Here are some troubleshooting steps that I would suggest going through when experiencing this issue.

  • Photos stuck in slideshow

I've been using Apple Tvs for a digital signage project for quite some time and now, I have a recurring problem: sometimes when I refresh the slideshow content, other previously loaded photos will show up in the slideshow. For example, I had the slideshow playing 10 photos from my iCloud Photostream account then I decided to switch the slideshow to 10 different photos from my Flickr account. Everything will work fine for awhile - sometimes days. Then, at random, several of the Photostream photos will get mixed in along with the 10 current photos from the Flickr account slideshow. Sometimes I get the same issue even when using a local folder via Homesharing (Homeshare photos will play at random even when the slidehow is set to Flickr, Photostream,etc..). It seems as if there is a cache that is not purging itself properly. This is incredibly frustrating because it seems to happen at random.  I have even power-cycled the Apple TV and the slideshow will pull the photos from Flickr (or iCloud) and work properly. Then I'll power cycle again and get the random photo issue.
Also note that I use a hard-wired connection all of the time, this issue is not Wi-Fi related.
Is there ANY way of making sure this issue won't happen without having to perform a factory reset to the Apple TV?

This has happened to me also - ONLY after upgrading to iLife '06. My camara is a Sony and doesn't have the option for auto-rotation enabled (doubt it even has such an option). I import into iPhoto '06 and manually rotate my profile images to their correct orientation. Playing the slideshow reveals them in landscape once more. If I use the rotation controls within the slideshow, this can be corrected - BUT if I close the slideshow and go back to iPhoto '06, the once correctly-oriented (before the slideshow) images now appear in landscape - in the OPPOSITE direction of their originally-imported landscape direction. So it looks like iPhoto '06 image orientation is not being relayed correctly to the slideshow.
Additionally, my settings for slideshow to NOT have music playing is not saved no matter how many times I revisit that option and click save after unchecking the "play music" box.
    Looking forward to iLife '06.01!

  • After downloading Yosemite

everything on my old MacBook is VERY slow!  Also the updated iPhoto is
stuck in slideshow mode after showing a slideshow.

Download and run Etrecheck.  Copy and paste the results into your reply. It's a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here in the ASC to help identify the more obvious culprits.

  • Viewing Library

I exported an album slideshow to iDVD and can no longer view my library with thumbprints. I can only see the first or last photo and have to page through one by one.
Every album I open opens with a slideshow.
    HELP!

    Paulina,
Used to be, I'd select an album, and I'd see all thumbnails plus a "film strip." So I could arrow on each one and advance or retreat.
That sounds like when you open a photo in the iPhoto's 'Edit in Main Window' mode. This is when Show/Hide Thumbnails is active in the View menu. At the bottom of the window are edit tools: Constrain, Crop, Enhance, Red-Eye, etc, with a "Done" button at the right. To get there you have to either double-click a photo, click the Edit button in the lower toolbar, or Right-click (control-click) a photo and choose Edit from the contextual menu.
Unless your iPhoto was somehow stuck in Edit mode. And now it appears to be stuck in Slideshow Play. To get unstuck, try deleting iPhoto's preference file. Quit iPhoto. In the Finder, navigate to Macintosh HD/ Users/ (your user name)/ Library/ Preferences/ com.apple.iPhoto.plist. Drag that file to the Trash. Launch iPhoto and select an album. Select a photo and click the Edit button (next to Rotate) in the lower toolbar. This should give you the thumbnail film strip at the top of the page.
After deleting the preference file you will have to reset iPhoto's preferences back to your liking. To get the edit view that you prefer, open the Preferences, General, and select "Edit photo: In main window". Now when you double-click on a thumbnail you will get the view that you are used to.
You may want to view the iPhoto Multimedia tutorial to see a presentation of iPhoto's features and controls.
Please post back if you have any more questions or would like clarification on any of the above.
    Regards,
    Shelly

Everytime i want to start a slideshow on those photos and the ipod will get stuck at certain frame, and it will always be around the same number of photo displayed before ipod will stuck again. Why is that? At first i thought it was because of too fancy transition so i turn off all the transition but the freeze still occurs. Anyone know how to solve this problem? thanks.

  • Screensaver Slideshow Stuck on 2 photos

When we run our screensaver slideshow, it will run fine for a little while and then always gets stuck on just two photos (not the same every time). It will slideshow just these two photos from that point on, unless you restart the slideshow. Any ideas?

I also have the same problem. It only seems to happen in conjunction with an iPhoto slideshow, if you just point to a folder of images and have it randomly cycle through them there's no problem, but consistently when I point the screensaver slideshow at my iPhoto library, it eventually gets stuck on two photos. Very irritating and I found at least two threads regarding this. C'mon Apple, step it up!?!

  • Stuck Slideshow

When I set my screensaver to an iPhoto album as a slideshow, most of the time it will eventually get stuck on 2 photos. You have to get it going again and then it does the same thing. Not always the same 2 photos. I see there are other people having this problem. I've posted about this before, and there was no help at all. Does anyone have any ideas about this particular problem? Thanks.

    HI,
Check your free drive space. Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop, then click: Get Info. In the Get Info window, click the discovery triangle so it's facing down. You will see; Capacity and Available Make sure you have 10% available disk space, 15% is better. Insufficient available space, can cause performance issues, system corruption, and possible loss of data.

  • Slideshow preview images stuck

Using iPhoto 11 (ver 9.2.1) and the banner of preview images across the top seems stuck on a random image. This started happening after my MacBook Air went into hibernation prior to using the slideshow in a presentation. I did not have TimeMachine on at the time so I cant go back to previous versions of the file. This is occuring in all slideshows, not limited to the one open at that time.

  • Slideshow music option "stuck"

Oddly, I'm unable to open folders or files from GarageBand demo songs or iTunes (library or playlists) when selecting music for a slideshow. All was working well until today after I added a new batch of photos. If I click on the iTunes library icon after selecting the "music" icon (in slideshow), no listing of song choices appear (as before, when all worked well). Instead the first song in the library just begins playing. Same with playlists or GarageBand demo songs. No song names are displayed -- only the first selection plays after a double click (and subsequent songs play as well in each list). The "find" function in slideshow music seems stuck too. Type in a song name from the library, hit return or the play arrow and I still get just the first song in the library list. I tried quitting iTunes, iPhoto, etc. as suggested in "help" but that didn't solve the problem. Nor did rebooting (twice) help. Am I overlooking something obvious, or are more sinister forces at work here? Suggestions welcomed!

  • Slideshow Module: Slideshow getting stuck, won't auto-advance

We use Lightroom 4.3 in our studio to show our work to clients.  One of our slideshows is based on a smart collection of all 5-star rated images.  Before a client comes in, we'll click on the smart collection to load the images, go to the Slideshow module and use a preset we've created that has our desired background color, fade time, etc.  and hit "play".
Recently this particular combination is not working properly.  After a random number of images, the slideshow simply stops advancing and appears to be "stuck".  If I hit the right arrow key on the keyboard to advance to the next image, nothing happens.  However, if I hit the right arrow key twice, skipping the next image and going to a second image, the slideshow will continue.  It will then get stuck again after a few slides.  The only thing that I can figure is that by hitting the arrow key twice, I'm skipping a "bad" image that doesn't want to load.  I can't tell what image that might be.  The images that are held up on the screen seem to be different each time, because we are playing the slides in a random order.
Is there a way that I can figure out if there are some kind of "problem" images that cause the slideshow to hang?  Has anyone else had this problem?  Or does anyone have a different theory (other than the "bad" image theory) of what might be going on here?
Updating from 4.2 to 4.3 did not solve the problem.
Optimizing the catalog did not solve the problem.
Using a different slideshow preset does not solve the problem.
Using a different set of images DOES prevent the problem from occurring, but of course, I need to show these images. (Ex: a different smart collection that doesn't contain all the same images.)
    OS: Windows Vista
Images: combination of CR2 raw, PSD, and jpeg
No error message.  Slideshow simply gets stuck.
No recent changes to computer or software that I am aware of.
I just had a thought.  I am going to go play the slides NOT in random order and see if I can find any pattern.  In the meantime, any help is greatly appreciated.

Okay, I answered my own question.  My thought about unchecking "Random Order" and then playing the slides quickly showed me the problem files.  There were a handful of files that had a black circle with an exclamation point in them.  This circle was where the question mark normally goes if LR can't find a file.  When I clicked on the exclamation point, it said LR could not access the file, or something like that.  I simply changed the rating on those images from 5 stars down to 4, which effectively removed them from my smart collection without having to delete them from my catalog.  At some point, I'll go back and figure out what the problem was with those files, but at least my slideshow is back up and running!
The funny thing is that I've been google searching this problem for weeks with no results.  Then I finally post in the forum and while typing the question, I figure out my own answer.  Go figure.  But I thought I'd post this up in case someone else has this issue, because there's NOTHING about this anywhere else I could find. :-)

  • Slideshow stuck--all albums. Just repeats the first picture. Help!

I have a macbook Air 10.9.1 OSXMavericks.  My slideshow gets stuck on the first image in all albums.  It's done this in the past once in a while but somehow corrected itself.  I tried restarting, tried moving the iphoto library to a new location, tried making a test Library and moved a few pictures in there.  No luck.
    Help! Thanks :-)

Make sure that you do not have the repeat control turned on. See http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPod_touch_iOS4_UserGuide.pdf

  • My slideshow widget is stuck in the loading position.

    Hi,
So I first uploaded my site to http://debijlgolf.businesscatalyst.com/frankrijk.html and the slideshow widget on the page is working perfectly.
But now that I have uploaded the website to it's final destination, http://www.debijlgolf.nl/frankrijk.html, the slideshow widget just keeps showing me the loading thing.
As far as I can tell the source code for both pages is the same (I also didn't change anything since uploading it to business catalyst), so does anyone know what the problem could be?
    Thanks so much!

    Ok the image aren't loading.
ithink the problem is the file name with spaces.
bc has no problem with them and your server is....  Just a guess

    http://www.debijlgolf.nl/images/saint%20junien%205.jpg
You should remove the spaces from your original file names...
it's know to cause problems in some cases
    Do not use any spaces
Most operating systems can handle documents with spaces in the file name without a problem, but it's not a good idea for Web page documents. The problem is that when a URL is displayed it is usually displayed with an underline. And so many people interpret a space as being the underscore character instead, and so can't get to your page. Plus, in order to use a space in a URL or Web file name, many browsers require that that space be encoded- either as a plus-sign or %20.
    Hope this helps

  • IPhoto slideshow problem--stuck on selected photo

I have an iMac (late 2009)  OS X 10.9.2. In Feb. 2014, Maverick was intalled in this computer.  I use iPhoto a lot to organize and store photos.  Today I was trying to look at a vacation album in Slideshow mode and it would only display one photo, over and over again.
How do I get Slideshow to function properly?

By selecting more than one picture.
If you want to Slide show using, lets say, pictures 1 to 20. Then you would click on picture 1 to select it, then before clicking on picture 20, you would have to press and hold the Shift key. This process will select all pictures from 1 to 20.
If you, however, want only a selected few pictures from 1 to 20. Lets say pictures 3-5-9-12-17 and 19. Then as you are selecting each of those pictures, you would press and hold the Command key as you are selecting each picture.
But lets say you want all 1 to 20 pictures except for one. Then just repeat the first, select picture 1 then press and hold the Shift key as you click on the 20th picture. Release the Shift key, then go to the picture that you don't want to show, press and hold the Command key and select the picture. You'll see the yellow bar surrounding the picture is now gone, but the remaining pictures still have their's.
When ready, just start the slide show as normal.

  • IPhoto won't let me get to my Events. It is stuck in a slideshow.

I opened a slideshow and now I cannot figure out how to get to a view of my events. I have tried quitting the application and reopening it, but it always opens the slideshow.
I will also note that I am using iPhoto '08.

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.
