If it only appears when you turn on the camera then it's not a stuck pixel.  If it only sometimes appears when you turn on the camera then it's not a stuck pixel.  If it's sometimes blue and sometimes green then it's not a stuck pixel.  A stuck pixel would always be there, always the same colour, whatever you were doing on your computer.
Whereabouts is this dot appearing.  The camera has a green indicator light above the screen which illuminates when the camera is on.  My apologies if I'm stating the obvious, but I'm just considering the possibility that you're maybe confusing this with a stuck pixel!

  • Stuck or Dead pixel?

I recently got a 32GB iPhone 4 from my cell phone provider for free (long story).  When I turned it one, I noticed a white dot on my screen, it's always there, in the same place, but only clearly visible when it is over a darker colour.  I did some research and seems that since it is always the same colour it is stuck, not dead and it will go away after a bit of time but I wanted to make sure.  It's small, about the size of a pinprick but annoying.  I can't upload a picture for you since it is on the screen and screenshots don't pick it up.
I hope this is understandable, please let me know.

The best method to find dead/stuck pixels is to use whole screen primary colors and black. If you have one, you will probably have to learn to live with it.
Some people say that you can "massage" them back to life. My opinion is that is urban legend. It may have actually worked for one person one time, but as a common practice to restore operation to a dead pixel, well, I wouldn't count on it.

  • All of a sudden tons of stuck and dead pixels on Retina display!

My MacBook Pro Retina is just about a year old. When the computer was only a few months old I had the display replace due to stuck pixels.
Now it's a year old (just 2 weeks out of warranty!) and all of a sudden there are a TON of stuck and dead pixels.
I mean A LOT: about 30 - 40 stuck pixels (all of them seem to be blue or white, I can't really tell), and maybe about 20 - 30 dead pixels. They are harder for me to see. The stuck pixels make the screen almost unusable though.
About a week ago I noticed one giant stuck pixel (probably a cluster of 4) but now, all of a sudden they are speckled all over the screen (but mostly in the same area where I found the first one.
Is my display just dying on me?
Is Apple going to make me pay for a new retina display (it's 15"). How much will that cost??
The display shouldn't die like this so soon, especially since it is already a relatively new screen (replaced once already).

I would go to Apple and ask nicely since it is only 2 weeks out of warranty and was already replaced once.

  • Stuck or dead pixels

I'm seeing around 5 dead pixels on my screen is this fixable or do I have to get it replaced and is it under warrenty I know that you can fix it on laptops but since the ipod touch has a hard glass screen you can't really fix it I've only had mine for 2 days

I spoke with several engineers at Sony and Samsung about this last month and they thought it was hysterical that people believed these apps would work.
The pixel may come back coincidentally but it is not due to flashing the LCD or some alternating color voodoo, or pressing on the LCD.
Another Internet myth that continues to propagate. The engineers in fact said all you are really doing is accelerating the decay in brightness/life of your screen running these silly apps in proportion to how long, continually you run them.
And definitely don't try the "press firmly on the stuck pixel with an pencil eraser" rubbish either - you'll have a nice dark spot around the area to enjoy for your efforts. There are no magic fixes for dead pixels according to the guys who design and build them.

  • White dot (not dead pixel) on external LCD monitor.

    Hi all,
I recently noticed a strange situation. I've owned a MacBook Pro 13" since October, and usually run it with an external Samsung T260 LCD monitor by MiniDP to DVI. I run the monitor at its full resolution of 1920x1200.
When I arrange the monitors so that the Samsung is on top of my MBP, there is a white dot about the size of a pixel approximately 3 inches from the left and 1/2 inch from the bottom of the screen. I thought it was a dead pixel, but when I move the external monitor to be on the left of the MBP, the white dot moves to 3 inches from the top and 1/2 inch from the right.
    * The white dot does not appear when I arrange the monitors in any other configuration.
    * The white dot appears when using MiniDP to VGA adapter as well.
    * When I zoom using the modifer key+scroll method, the white dot grows bigger.
I've tried using the JScreenFix applet, but as I said, it doesn't look like a dead pixel.
Can anyone offer any other suggestions, that may involved poking around in the Video RAM space?
    Thanks,
    -Tony

    Hi all,
Just returning to provide more information:
While playing around with my screen layouts, I found that the white dot is actually part of the menu bar graphic. I arranged my monitors and captured the screen to show the placement of the dot.

I hope Apple is able to fix this in the next SW update.
    Cheers,
    -Tony

  • Stuck or dead pixel (blue) on PB G4 high res 15"

How to determine whether pixel is stuck or dead. If stuck is there a way to fix it? Please advise. Thanks, Diego

  • IPad 3 white dot on start up screen not dead pixels?

    Hi everyone,
I just bought my new iPad around a week ago and everytime I turn it on I'm getting like 1 or 2 white dots on the loading screen around the apple logo.
They can't be dead pixels cause they kind flicker and disappear anyone notice this and is it normal?
    Thanks,

    Anto2012-
I'm not sure what the little dots are, but I see that when I have Apps on more than one page of the Home screen, there are more dots near the bottom of the screen.  It appears that the dot that is brighter indicates which page you are looking at.  If you only have one page of Apps, then there is only one dot with something like a tiny magnifying glass on its left.
If you swipe to the right, you bring up the keyboard for the search function.  When you swipe back to the left, you can see that the magnifying glass is bright, and then see it jump back to the right-hand dot.
At least that is what I observe on my iPad 2!

  • Slightly ligher spots on black screen? NOT dead pixels...

This is my 3rd MB after a series of exchanges for other problems. So far this thing is flawless.
However, I noticed that on a BLACK screen, there are two small oval-shaped sections near the center that appear SLIGHTLY lighter than the rest of the screen. It is really only noticeable when the entire screen is black. The areas simply look like there is a finger print on the screen, but us BEHIND the plastic. I tried using a microfiber towel to clean the area and it is not externally.
I know I'm being picky, and the spots are not visible at all on any other colors and looks smooth; it is only on a black screen.
I really dont feel like taking this in a 3rd time (for a 4th computer). Should I just live with it? It's still better than the other previous MB's as far as issues. My only worry is that my exchanged computer or screen will have a dead pixel, which would be worse than this honestly.
Your thoughts? Is this normal? Is some color discrepancy normal on pure black colors? Thanks!

I think everything has flaws; it's just whether or not they're visible. The irony is you could have one that has one or two cosmetic defects and it lasts you 10+ years; however, could have one that is cosmetically perfect, but go through two or three logic boards in its lifetime. Anything is possible.
I can't say that you are or are not having problems that are "normal" b/c computers are almost synonimous w/ cars these days as far as defects, warranties, and repairs.
My first blackBook had a slight bulge in the bezel, next to the isight--took it back to Apple three days later, they exchanged it no problems. The new Blackbook they replaced it with had a bad Return key (the scissor was broken). They replaced they key, no problems so far and I'm very happy w/ it. I have AppleCare not b/c Apple would tell me to buy it, but b/c I plan on keeping the computer for 3 years at minimum and don't want to deal w/ repair cost (if any).

  • Dead pixel and dust!

    Hey guys,
Got a new macbook in december- there's a large piece of dust to the right of the camera in the black frame around the screen and a dead pixel in the middle right of the screen (its red, only shows up on darker images). Really annoying and, frankly, I don't like the idea of paying top dollar for these sort of blemishes. Will apple exchange my laptop for stuff such as this, or does there have to be more than just 1 dead pixel? This early in the laptop's life, dead pixels shouldn't be happening, considering I've never had another dead pixel in any of my 4 other mac laptops and 2 desktops. Any advice?

If it's red, it's not "dead" but rather "stuck" (on). Because there's actually 1,024,000 pixels and 3,072,000 sub-pixels, Apple does not usually consider one stuck sub-pixel worthy of a repair or replacement. In fact, several stuck or dead pixels must be located near each other before it's considered defective. Check out this Knowledge Base Article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1721
You may be able to take it in and find a sympathetic Mac Genius or AASP to get it replaced. If you had purchased the MacBook from Apple and returned it within 14 days for any reason, you could have gotten your money back less a 10% restocking fee. You could have then purchased a different MacBook. However, since it's definitely been more than 14 days, depending on where you purchased it, you may not be able to return it now.
The dust may be a different story. However, unless it affects the functionality of the computer, Apple does not usually make repairs or replacements for "cosmetic" problems.

  • 1 Dead Pixel

    Hey everyone,
I bought a 16gb last week and yesterday I ran a video screen test to make sure all the colors were in order (luckily they all were), but as I was doing that I noticed that I have one dead pixel on the screen. Everything else on the screen seems to be perfect except that one little pixel. Is it even worth it going back to Apple and trying to exchange it, or will they even exchange an ipod touch for a new one over just 1 pixel? I never noticed it until I ran that screen test and I don't know if i will notice after a week or two if I don't think about it. I can't decide if its worth making a big deal over, but I did spend $400 on the thing. The only thing I am worried about is exchanging it and getting a new one that is even worse and have multiple stuck or dead pixels (or another worse problem) and then I have to go back again and attempt to get a new one.
What does everybody think? Am I making a big deal out of a little pixel or should I try to exchange it?

From what I've read it seems like a pretty good amount of them have stuck or dead pixels. I know having 1 isnt a huge deal, but its still more than 0. I'm worried that if they do let me exchange mine then I'll get a new one that has more than 1 stuck/dead pixel and that would be a step backward and a huge hassle to fix. But then yet again, it was $400...

  • Retina highlight/ dead pixels issues

    Hi
I have recently started to see highlight (dead) pixels on my MBP retina display. I thought these are dead pixels so I went to the Apple store to get it fixed.
It turns out that these are not dead pixels but actually tiny dents on the thin glass cover that might have happen from small particles on the keyboard or the surface around it.
According to the guys in the Apple store a few people came with the same issue but we where told that this is not covered by warranty as it's a damage caused by the user!
This is a big concern and should be investigated by Apple. does this mean that we need to keep the keyboard and surrounding area completely clean each time before we close the lid? It never happened on any of my laptops in 15 years.
If you see something that looks like a dead pixels try to scrape the the glass with your nail. If it feels like there is something on the glass like a small bump then it's not a dead pixel but a tiny dent on the glass and Apple won't fix it under warranty.
This makes the MBP Retina a product a very fragile product so think twice before you buy one.
    Cheers,
    Mica

I just got back from the apple store. The guy immediately agreed to replace the screen under my apple care and promised that we would check if there would still be image retention issues with the new one in the store and that they'd swap it again if there were. He also claimed that while he'd seen issues early on, he hadn't seen any problems for the past few months.
I got a new samsung screen and they ran an image retention test in the store with me and everything checked out fine. So I just want to give a big shoutout to apple for being super cool about this and to tell others with the same worries as me to just go there and talk to them. The problem I guess with looking at stuff online is that you mostly only see people  writing that have had bad experiences... so here's to also reporting when you have a good one!

  • Nokia C7 - dead pixel on E-mail widget?

I do not know whether you have noticed that or not, but it seems to me like there is a dead pixel on Nokia E-mail widget ... Is it only my C7 that has this issue? Has anyone else noticed anything similar?

    Solved!

Can you post a screen shot of it. I've noticed something similar to what you've mentioned with Nokia's midnight themes, looks like a theme issue and not dead pixel. I've attached screen shot of that from my E7 see if that is what you're seeing on your phone.

  • Not a dead pixel.....but actually something stuck under the screen

I just got home from the Apple Store where they swapped out my iPhone because on some phone calls there would be a crackling sound like the earpiece in the phone was blown or something. I got home and was getting it set up and on white screens a see a little dark dot. I thought it might be a dead pixel but when you turn it off and look at the screen and turn it just right you can actually see something underneath the glass. I don't want to be a pain but this is really going to bug me. Should I take it back again?

Yes I have had this problem
The first phone I had, had a "stuck" pixel (it was always whiteish/blueish/greenish on any black/dark background). It was only one pixel but they exchanged it.
The next had another bad pixel and a piece of lint or something...they exchanged it again, though this took some arguing and second opinions. Finally I found the manager who agreed with me unlike the guy at the "genius" bar.
This one AGAIN had Many pieces of noticeable debris. They exchanged this one right away, no questions.
Now I'm on my 4th phone haha and it has Several "stuck" pixels. Around 5 or 6 actually noticeable ones. Its really driving me nuts. I want to have a phone with a good screen and have all this exchanging nonsense to be over. It also has another piece of dust you can see on white screens and when the phone is off.
I brought it in and they said to give it a few weeks and see if it gets better or worse. I said okay and left. It's just too upsetting for me. The thing was over 600 bucks. I'm going to another apple store tomorrow. Hopefully they can fix or replace it with one I can examine before I leave.
Did they replace yours with a good one?
