Stuck on a Playlist - Menu button issue?

Have a clickwheel 20G ipod which seems to be stuck on a particular playlist. When I press menu to access the previous menu, nothing happens. The menu button seems to work for other functions like backlight and turning on the ipod. Tried resetting by toggling the hold switch then simultaneously pressing menu and centre select button for way over 10 seconds repeatedly but am not able to achieve the reset with the apple logo displayed. Again nothing happens when I do this.
Anybody with any ideas?

Does removing the battery help?

  • Menu Button issue with the iPod Universal Dock with Remote

What is the status of a firmware release to address the inability of the Apple Remote to mimic the menu button on the iPod?
Is it even possible to update the firmware to provide this functionality? What is the hold up? I am boycotting further hardware purchases until this is taken care of or Apple accept s a return of my Universal Dock, Remote, Second power brick, Firewire cable, and AV cable.
It is shameful for Apple to have sold these items and not made it clear that the menu button may as well be a sticker.

  • Still Frame vs Video Loop Menu Button Issues

    Hello,
I have a home video of a wedding I am trying to burn to a DVD using iDVD. I have 7 chapter markers in the movie and I would like to use still clips from the video as the icons in the chapter menu buttons. However, once I select "still image", I can no longer scroll through the entire movie to select the image I want. Instead, it only gives me the first 1 minute 37 seconds of the clip. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    Joe

Nevermind, I have figured it out.

  • Strange menu button issue

I created a DVD from iMovie last night and it came out fine - there was one simple menu button for "play all" - after watching the movie, I decided to cut a piece from it in iMovie and of course, when I opened up iDVD it asked me if I wanted to updated the modified assets - I said yes. Now, I know that sometimes when there's chapters this will screw everything up and you have to start from scratch - but there are no chapters, so I figured this wouldn't be a problem and I burned the disc.
I then go to play the disc, and I tried two Sony Blu-Ray players and one DVD player and they all had the same problem with this menu button - it was a bullet shape and the circle kept blinking yellow/white - as if it was being selected on it's own without pressing a button on the remote - I then hit "enter" to play it and it wouldn't play the movie - I had to hold down the enter button for an extended period of time to make it play the movie (which it can, in full) - but I'm curious as to why the button would react this way. Obviously this isn't acceptable so I made a new project from scratch and am burning as I type this - hopefully it's ok - but I'm wondering if it had something to do with altering a clip in iMovie even though there were no chapters. I should also mention the problem disc did not show this problem when playing it on the computers DVD player - nor in the preview from iDVD.
    Any thoughts?

I think you are experiencing, in scientific terms, some goofiness. It is possible for iDVD to lose its footing when assets are updated, and sometimes you have to Delete Encoded Assets, to get it reoriented, I've not heard of a problem which manifests itself in that fashion. Re-starting from scratch should solve goofiness caused by updated assets.

  • DVD Studio Pro 4.1 color/menu/button issues

I just got the latest version of Final Cut Studio with DVD Studio Pro 4.1 and am having issues with menus and buttons. For some reason no matter what I do to the color settings my menus are always gray and the buttons never reflect the color changes I make. Am I missing something?

Hi - welcome to the discussions!
Could you be a little more specific here... for example, when you say the menus are always gray, do you mean when you use the menu editor or after you have built a disc? Button colours are set in several ways... what is the workflow that you are using?

  • General Error or Crash using menu button on chapter playlists

This is my first complex project in 2.0 - I needed to have approx 120 clips playable individually from a series of still menus. Given the 99 timeline limit, I created a number of timelines and placed batches of clips on them. I'm then using individual chapter playlists to reference each clip. The chapter playlist is linked from a menu button.
When using the menu remote button when a chapter playlist is playing, I either get an 'abnormal condition' error, or occasionally, Encore crashes with no message at all. Tried this with no menus, timelines and playlists open but same errors.
    More detail:
    PAL 16:9 project
    28 timelines
    65 chapter playlists
    15 still menus
approx 120 mpv clips and associated wavs (mpv encoded with cinemacraft encoder sp)
Settings for one of the clips giving problems:
Timeline - end action not set, menu remote - return to last menu, all ops permitted, no chapter end actions
Chapter playlist - end action - return to last menu, override not set, menu remote - return to last menu, all ops permitted.
I think I can stop the errors and crashes if I disable the menu remote button - but I don't really want to do this.
Any ideas what's going on? Is it a bug(S)?
    Thanks,
    Paul.

    Paul.
The trouble I had was the "Abnormal Condition" error when hitting the menu remote button in preview.
There was no problem with Prev/Next buttons though.
I tried burning a disc too, just to check if it would burn true & just played up in preview - but no dice. What happened was the player froze up solid after pressing the menu remote.
I did create another project where the chapter playlists numbered around 28 from a single timeline, and this actually worked as it should do, so I suspect an issue in Encore's internal stacks where this is all addressed.
I had to use a different application in the end.
I believe the reason yours is still failing is simply because despite having 5 timelines, you are still well over the number of chapter playlists that seem to be available.
It's a nasty bug - but apparently a fix is in the works. Hopefully we will see this as a maintenance release - we got these with both earlier versions (1.01 from 1.0, and 1.5.1 from 1.5) so I am hoping it will happen.
There are a couple of issues I have noticed - although this is so far the only one I cannot work around in my projects.
One thing has just occurred to me that might help you here.
Instead iof using a chapter playlist to reference each clip, save these for multiple clips that need to be accessed, and from your chapter menu, just point directly to the clip in question.
Set an end action for each clip to revert back to the menu that called it, and create just a single chapter playlist for a "Play All" situation.
This will greatly reduce the number of chapter playlists you are running - and should do the job for you.

  • How do you set the menu button for a playlist?

I have a "Play All" playlist that I want to return to the main menu (when the menu button on a DVD remote is pressed). Right now, it's going to one of my sub menus. I can't figure out why this is happening. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for the responses.
My "Play All" playlist is not a button on a menu. It is actually the "First Play" of my DVD. I want the user to be able to hit the menu on their remote and then go to the main menu. What's happening is the menu button is going to a sub menu. I find it frustrating that you cannot set the remote button options for a playlist. If this can't be done, is there at least a way to set my main menu screen as my "top menu"? I don't want to set all of my timelines to the main menu. If I were to set it that way, all of the clips from the sub menus would go back to the main menu (when the menu remote button is pressed).

  • Menu button frozen cant access playlists

I recently purchased an Ipod dock and have been unable to access my playlists since I used it. The menu button works as it makes the light come on but it is not letting me into my menu or at my playlists. My ipod is now just playing all the songs in order. Can anyone help. Thanks!

Have you tried resetting the iPod?

If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.

  • Won't open homepage on open, won't open web pages from the menu 'open new window', Can't open menu button

Ok, since update to version 31.0, I have been having some problems.
I have tried doing everything stated in the support page about resetting, reinstalling, safe mode, restarting pc etc.
First problem, when I open Firefox no web page loads. It just says New Tab and a blank white page. If I press the home button I am taken to my homepage which is google.
Second problem, when I right click on a link and the menu pops up, if I click open in new window, a new window opens but it just says New Tab with a blank page and no URL information, just blank.
Third problem, the Open Menu button just doesn't work at all. You can click all you like, that thing is not opening.
I am really stuck as to what to do. I have only been using Firefox for about a month and t was good until these problems. If I can't resolve it, I will have to use another browser as it is really annoying.
I am using Windows 8.1 by the way and have scanned my computer thouroughly for both virus's and malware.

Hi zenithtwc, to test whether this is a settings issue, could you do a three-minute experiment?
    '''Create a new Firefox profile'''
A new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.
Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run):
    firefox.exe -P
''Don't delete anything here.'' Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.
Click the Create Profile button, assign a name like Test731, and skip the option to change the folder location. Then start Firefox in the new profile you created.
    Can it reach the internet?
When returning to the Profile Manager, you might be tempted to use the Delete Profile button. But... it's a bit too easy to accidentally delete your "real" profile, so I recommend resisting the temptation. If you do want to clean up later, I suggest making a backup of all your profiles first in case something were to go wrong.

  • Menu button no longer working

    Hi,
I have had my iPod since June of 2004, and I love it. Two days ago my Menu button stopped working.
Here's what's happening... for example, assume you are listening to a song. You want to stop listening to it and listen to another song on another playlist. You would press the pause button and then the MENU button. Well, the MENU button is no longer working, and I am stuck on that song.
I have tried reflashing the firmware twice using ipod-updater-2005-10-15, and then recharge the iPod. Nothing has worked.
I have also noticed that when I take my iPod off hold, the backlight goes on.
I use my iPod all the time in the car. I using a transponder, not headphones...
    Any help would be appreciated...
    Thanks,
    Chris

Thanks Mitch 751. I had a sinking feeling that would be the case, but I was hoping it was not.
In any case, I appreciate your reply.
I guess I am off to send my iPod to iPod Hospital.
    Have a great weekend,
    Chris

  • Any updates on the remote Menu button

I haven't seen anything lately on the issue of using the remote's "Menu" button to access play lists etc when the video ipod is hooked up to a TV via the doc and an AV cable. Are there any updates on this? I am getting kind of tired of having to walk over to the TV to change playlists, etc. etc.

Well, I am taking about something a little different. Your link refers to what you see on your TV screen. I can get by without mirroring, its the remote i want to work better.
When the 'iPod Dock with Remote' originally came out, a lot of us assumed that the "menu" button would work the same way as the "menu" button on the ipod itself, i.e. it would take you back one level. We also assumed that the volume keys would let you scroll up and down through items in a menu (not as elegant as the scroll wheel, but workable). And that the RWD and FWD buttons would work as they do on the ipod. All of this taken together would give you full operation of your ipod without having to touch it. Adding screen mirroring would be the icing on the cake for the dedicated couch potato.
Unfortunately, the menu button is disabled on the remote when it comes to controlling an ipod... it only works for front row on a mac.
Anyway, a lot of us were hoping this could get resolved through some kind of firmware upgrade to the ipod itself.

  • Menu button stopped working on my Ipod mini

Heading basically says it all, I am stuck in the same playlist unless i reset the ipod. All other factors of the clickwheel still work. I can hear the menu button clicking down just the ipod won't respond to the pressing of it.

    Hi,
I have exactly the same problem, and so do dozens of others from what I can determine on the 'net.
Menu button is still working as the reset function works fine (reset does not work unless both MENU & SELECT are pressed together).
Have tried loading latest software, and then reverting to original software - problem is still the same.
Anyone solved this problem, or have any ideas?
    Thanks

  • Menu button stopped working

So I've been having troubles with my menu button. Sometimes the button works but most of the time it doesn't. All the other buttons work fine. I've tried just about everything. I even tried to restore it but that didn't work. I'm planning on going to the Apple store to have them check it out. Is there any way for me to exchange it for a different ipod though or am I stuck with the nano?

Apple will only replace with another nano...
However with the 5G the click wheel has definately shrunk... All that I can say is try hitting it a little different.
Otherwise it could just be a small fault and a new device may not have this.
Good luck with your trip to the apple store... Hope you find results...
As I've had my 5G since it was released and I have had no issues to date.

  • 30Gb iPod Photo Menu button is frozen - can't reset!

Since yesterday, (31 March) my menu button is frozen. I can't hold it down to reset the iPod and I can't get back to the main menu. I'm stuck in one of my music folders.
Updating the iPod with your computer once fixed the issue. The iPod reset back to the main menu, and the menu button worked after that.

Updating iPod with your computer fixes the issue.
