Stuck on ADSL Max

We re-contracted to get upgraded to ADSL 2+, but two days after the regrade, the line stats from the BT HomeHub say we are still on ADSL Max (Modulation: G.992.1 Annex A)... Noise margin 17.6dB.
Spoke to first line tech support earlier, who first said the modulation was fixed in the BT HomeHub and couldn't be altered, and then said the modulation type changes automatically after the ten day training period.
I'm sorry, but I'm not convinced about either story. Can anyone confirm how we get the line upgraded to ADSL 2+?

    Hi all

These stats haven't changed since the days of my being on an ADSL Max connection. I'm not an expert at this but I believe that my Attenuation & SNR Margin figures are high enough to get ADSL2+ speeds. The fact that the modulation type is showing as G.DMT rather than ADSL2+ (G992.5) suggests to me that i'm still stuck on the old ADSL Max profile.
I've made several calls to BT support (India) and get different fob offs each time - that my line is operating within spec, that speeds above 8Mb are only avaiulable if I upgrade to Infinity (!) etc etc. During the last call about a month ago (case vol011-60207770173) I was told that they would reset the SNR marginand that the line would retrain over the next 10 days or so. Nothing changed at any stage on the router - stats remained as above.
I'm paying for an ADSL2+ product my profile seems stuck on ADSL Max. If anyone has any suggestions as to how to get this looked at properly by BT then please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Mark Denton

Provided that you are sure that your router setting are not locked to G.DMT (have you got a home hub you can try?)

  • Seeking Diagnosis: ADSL Max: Automatic Reset of Hu...

I’m hoping that the forum can suggest a diagnosis for an intermittent problem with my BT broadband link. I’ve been told in the past that my link uses ADSL Max. The problem has occurred before, though not for a couple of months, and not since an NTE5 and service-specific face plate were installed. I previously posted about this under the title “BT Hub3 - What Exactly Does 'Connection time' Mean?”.
The problem is that the Hub (specifically a Hub 3) performed an automatic reset (after the connection had been stable for almost 25 days), and on completion of the reset the upstream bit rate had fallen to a mere 160 kbit/s. The downstream bit rate had also fallen, but only slightly, and its value remained perfectly acceptable given the length of my phone line.
I’ve pasted below some statistics that I took from the hub manager, together with the date and time of their retrieval. Clearly the problem is correlated with, and probably caused by, a decline in the Noise Margin Up figure from 21.0 dB to 5.0 dB, and I’m interested in knowing whether this is symptomatic of a fault in BT’s network, or of any other obvious cause. I was actually talking on my phone line when the reset occurred, and I was alerted to it by crackling on the line.
Having identified the reduction in upstream bit rate I recovered the situation by unplugging the broadband cable and then plugging it in again a few moments later. I suspect that had I not done this the upstream bit rate would still be far too low. It is reasonable to expect that a low upstream bit rate would be corrected automatically, but my past experience is that this does not happen, and I’d be interested in knowing whether dynamic line management focuses exclusively on the downstream bit rate.
    Thanks in anticipation.

  • Activated on ADSL Max not ADSL 2 / 2+

    Hi,
As experienced by other user on this forum I appear to have been activated on ADSL Max rather than ADSL 2/2+.
Would it be possible to move me across?
On my previous supplier I had a solid ~10500\800Kbps ADSL 2 connection, I now seem limited to 8096\448Kbps. The limited upload is the real issue for me.
    Cheers & thanks in advance,

    Hi Guys,
Line was moved over to ADSL2 yesterday and speeds are good. However, whenever i use the phone the adsl drops. There is also random intermittant noise on the line. Is this due to a line fault? I've tried all the usual swapping router\filters\phone & using the test socket with the same result.
    Cheers,

  • Moved house and placed back on ADSL Max. Help plea...

Hi, wondered if I could get some help on this issue please.
I have recently moved home and took the same number with us to the new address (connected to the same exchange). Phone service activated fine with the broadband activating 1 day later. At the previous address I was on ADSL2+ with a fairly decent connection (6800kbps download and 950kbps upload with 50dB attenuation).
Now the broadband has activated at the new address I am currently connected at 5408/448kbps. Stats are as follows:
    Upstream
    448
    Downstream
    5408
    SNR Margin(Upstream)
    17.0
    SNR Margin(Downstream)
    6.0
    Line Attenuation(Upstream)
    29.5
    Line Attenuation(Downstream)
    48.0
Not particularly concerned about the downstream speed at this point (although I'm hoping after the 10 day training period to see some increase as I've lost over 1 meg despite moving just around the corner). The problem is the upload at 448kbps. Given the high upstream SNR margin it would appear that I've been moved from ADSL2+ to ADSL Max. The router also seems to confirm this:
    Operational Mode
    G.DMT
I am assuming this is some sort of mistake as the move should have been for a like-for-like service. Is there any way I can get put back onto ADSL2+ in order to benefit from the increased upload speed? BT Infinity was supposed to go live at the end of September and still waiting so really want to maximise the most out of the current connection.
    Thanks,
    Tom

  • ADSL Max, extremely slow following phone fault (0....

    Hello fellow BT soldiers,
So, following a phone fault (that was eventually fixed) I've now got an additional fault listed at the "BT Retail Servers" (according to the online BT fault tracker).
For about a week we've had extremely slow download speeds, nothing much more than 0.1Mb/s - we only ever manage 1.5 - 2.5Mb speeds, which is just about workable, however being reduced to 0.1 is like returning to the days of 56k dial-up.
I ran the BT Wholesale "Broadband availability checker" which returns the below results -

I'll be at home from 7pm onwards, so can post additional information if needed this evening (unless I can perform remote checks somehow?).
As per tradition, i've spoken to various people at BT, who have all promised resolution; no progress to date.

  • New connection stuck on ADSL instead of ADSL2

    Hi,
I'm on a long line and get 1mb out of ADSL Max, but BT wholesales own ADSL Availability Checker states that I should expect 0.75 to 2.5 from ADSL Max or 1 to 3.5 from ADSL 2+.
So as ADSL 2+ shoudl result in a slightly higher speed how do I switch?
I've already tried speaking to the support team who first of all didnt know what G.992.1 was - not a good sign for Broadband support. They then said i needed to speak to the sales team... guess what they said? Speak to support!
Any ideas who I should contact? Please dont say support or sales

My line stats from the home bug 3 are below. I dont usually use it, i use my own equipment as I need to run VPNs and load balance with a satellite connection to get anything even approaching broadband.
I've been trying to get BT to look at the line over the past few weeks already as the FEC errors have shot up significantly along with a speed decrease. Firstly I was told that cable theft left people in Cheltenham with no service and that this was affecting me (despite me having service, it just being reduced). Then after this was cleared I was told that it needed escalating to an engineer who would phone the next day. They just said my exchange was undergoing major maintainence for 48h and it would be resolved after that... guess what, it still isnt.
So i'm desperate to get both my old 1.2mb speed back and also to get any form of increase I can. I'm already using a microfilter faceplate which gives me the same sync speed as a microfilter into the test socket of the master socket. I've tested that it's nothing internal resulting in my speed drop (tried 2 modems, 2 cables, 1 MF face plate and 1 micro filter).

  • Am I on ADSL Max or ADSL2+

    Hi,
Please bear with me as I am something of a computer ignoramus.
Four different contacts with BT confirmed that my exchange, Kimbolton, was upgraded to ADSL2+ during W/C 23rd April.  However, my router is still showing my Modulation as G.992.1 Annex A, which according to things I have read suggests I am only on ADSL Max.
Which do I believe and is there any other way of checking please ?

OP, Hold your breath as long as possible, very likely your down speed will drop once moved, consider modem/router that would let you force a less sensitive modulation. Also consider if your set up from the  BT master socket is good as it can be!

  • ADSL Max // ADSL2+ advice needed please!

    Hi there,
I play online games every night. About a year ago I was enjoying pings of around 30 in game throughout the evening etc and a sync rate of 13000 (which as I understand is ADSL2+), my ping rose steadily up to 50+ until I decided to contact BT two days ago and have interleaving switched off on my line. My ping has now dropped back to around 30 in game, but my sync rate is now 8000. I have done a few router (homehub 2.0) resets recently and uptime is only a couple of days. My details are below.
    My questions are:
    - Will my sync rate improve above 8000 (which I understand is ADSL Max) on its own over the next few weeks, or do I have to ask to have my connection switched back over to ADSL2+ manually?
    - Does having interleaving removed from my connection mean I am only able to get ADSL Max?
    - My Homehub 2.0 still shows latency type as Interleaved. Will this ever change to show the correct reading, or is it a bug in the firmware? Lots of people ask this question but don't seem to get an answer. I have held off doing a router reset since changing to Fastpath as this will delay any sync rate improvements. A restart after interleaving was removed didn't fix the router latency type reading.
Thanks for your help guys and gals.

Thanks for getting back to me RogerB,
As I mentioned I contacted BT regarding switching interleaving off, they kept me updated with the job in progress and sent an email back confirming it had been switched off, and forum moderator has also checked and confirmed it has completed (roughly mid day 27th July). Perhaps there is a delay in this showing on the Hub? My ping and latency issues have vanished since this time, I just wondered if there was a problem with the Hub displaying the correct value, as I'm almost certain it is actually off? A quick google check comes up with other people in this situation also.
    Thanks again RogerB

  • UK - 857 With BT ADSL MAX - Lines become unstable and router require FW upg

    Hi,
We are starting to see a number of DSL MAX sites running 857 routers becoming unstable, constant loss of sync, re-authentications etc - sometimes up to 400 a day. We called out the Telco (BT) and they tested the line as OK and stable. After swapping the kit three times I spoke with TAC and they provided me with a newer version of the ATM Firmware (2.6.4) - This fixes the problem and stabilises the line.
My question is - Has anyone else seen this problem in the UK? Are BT rolling out a code upgrade to their DSLAMs or changing some hardware? Is this likely to affect all UK DSL MAX connections in the near future?
    Andy.

    Andy,
We've likewise seen issues with Cisco 870 routers on BT ADSL lines. I doubt that BT will do any upgrades to their DSLAMs as we've found them pretty unhelpful when it comes to DSL. We're currently rolling out a lot of 870s and I'm going to be upgrading firmware on all of them before deployment.
    Cheers,
    Neil

  • Stuck at 38 max ratio on MS-7673

Hey guys, just signed up to the forum because I'm stumped. Hopefully somebody can help me out. A friend of mine just gave me an MSI PH67S-C43 (B3) motherboard with an H67 chipset, and I just can't get this thing to go any higher than 3.8ghz with a K-model i7. I know it's frequently asked, but yes, I am certain beyond the shadow of a doubt that this is a K-model. It's printed on the chip, the BIOS reads it as K-model and even shows that it's unlocked, and CPU-Z will also report that it's a K-model.
Now I think the problem is the BIOS version. It's currently running version 6.0, and per MSI's page it's only recommended if you're running an Ivy Bridge core. Obviously in this scenario I am not. I attempted to revert to the non-ivy BIOS, version 2.7, but it tells me that there is a ROM mismatch. I assume this new 6.x BIOS updates something else like the ME, so I'm kind of lost on how to revert it back. Any ideas?
Also, just to disclose my background a little, I have been overclocking since the 90's. My first successfully overclocked system was an Intel Pentium 200 MMX running at blazing 250mhz on an 83mhz bus using an Intel TX chipset. I've since had many many overclocked systems (and overclocked smartphones and tablets), so I'm no stranger to the game. My last system was an Intel Core 2 Q6600 (P35 chipset) that ran stable at 3.6ghz, so I may just be a little outdated on all of these new LGA 1155 board BIOS settings. Could there be a setting in there that's preventing me from bringing the multiplier above 38? I feel confident I should be able to run this chip ~4.5ghz with the cooling I have.
Here's a couple of BIOS screenshots. Thanks in advance for all the replies.

I think this is because you have EIST enabled, but I am not sure as I have non-k chip
Also, maybe these settings might be changeable in OC Genie 2 mode instead of Standard Mode?
Thanks for the reply! How do I disable EIST? I tried OC Genie 2, but it still would cap out at a 38 multiplier. Is this a limitation of the H67 chipset?
Edit: Brain fart. I tried with speedstep turned off. I enabled/disabled anything else I could think of too like the power management, C1E, C6, etc... This board will just not go above a 38 ratio.
Any ideas on reverting back to the 2.7 BIOS? I'm stuck on this 6.x version and it won't let me downgrade. I even tried the forum flasher tool, but it gets the same results as the standard flash tool. If I try to boot the 2.7 BIOS via USB stick I never post.

  • Still on ADSL Max but exchange has been upgraded t...

    Hello,
After hours (literally) on phone calls to BT Tech help I cant seem to achieve more than 8mbps speeds even though I am within a stones throw from the exchange and I've been told that the exchange and my line was upgraded and I should be getting an estimated 17mbps.
My HH3 has the modulation set to G.992.1 Annex A and I believe it needs to be G.992.5 Annex M. Does anyone know how to change this on the HH3? Is it auto detecting?
    Help! This is very frustrating!!!

    Thanks matmajot,
I think the details given to you by the link is for new customers as they are put onto the new adsl2+ service when they order.
Here are the different line modulations (some may not be available):
     Standard ADSL
    ANSI T1.413 Issue 2
    ITU G.992.1 (G.DMT)
    ITU G.992.2 (G.Lite)
    ADSL2
    ITU G.992.3
    ITU G.992.4
    ITU G.992.3 Annex J
    ITU G.992.3 Annex L
    ADSL2+
    ITU G.992.5
    ITU G.992.5 Annex M
If your on G.992.1 know as G.DMT then your still on ADSLMax (upto 8mb).
If the helpdesk has recently moved you to the new service then I would wait 10days as it may take some time for the changes to apply.
You can contact BT to upgrade to the new service but you will have to accept a new contract. If you don't want a new contract then you will be upgraded at some time in the next days/weeks/months as they are done in batches. You will get 2 emails to your primary BT email about the upgrade.
    1) Telling you they are upgrading your line. Looks like <click here to view>
    2) Confirming the upgrade is complete. Looks like <click here to view>
Please could you post your router statistics so we can see what speeds maybe available for you.
I'm no expert, so please correct me if I'm wrong

  • Live today and stuck on ADSL yet BT promised me I ...

Just went live today and already thing's aint looking good, everyone I spoke to at BT stated that I would definitely be connected at 15.5mb plus not on a standard ADSL service.

when you were with sky you would be using the LLU equipment in the exchange giving the adsl2+ connection.  AS you have checked your exchange is 21CN upgraded then eithe try uk sales and see if the can help or/and you could email the mods with your account and phone number and a link back to this thread.  They should be able to get it sorted out

  • ADSL2+ / ADSL Max ?

I moved house in to the sticks at the end of November & went from 50mb virign fibre to a BT exchange with either BT or TalkTalk LLU. As much as this felt like a huge leap backwards it isn't the end of the world..
Its been a few years since having ADSL rather than fibre but after a bit of research I ordered BT with a promise of ADSL2+ (the exchange has had it ages).
Initially connected at around 3.5 Mbps which gradually droppped to around 3. I have just got around to having a look at what I can do to improve speeds, especially upload which I use for work...
There's only 1 short extension so I have now disconnected the 'bell wire' - immediate jump back to 3.5 Mps - This is the same in test socket or faceplate socket.
Getting to the point, I noticed on my hub stats that I am on ADSLMax not ADSL2+ ... I'm sure ADSL2+ would at least improve my upload speeds. Unfortunately after a few calls to BT no one seems to understand what I'm asking for & having been promised it on connection I'd quite like to be moved across...
Can anyone guide me on the best number to call to request this please? I have posted hub stats (just rebooted) below just to check my theory is correct. The connection has been rock solid since install, any disconnects have been forced by me.
    cheers

I wouldn't bother just now and wait forchange to adsl2 which is more aggressive on line noise so you may find noise margin is higher and connection speed similar as you have
you can always connect to test socket and chacke RogerB post for possible noise sources
