Stuck on disk 2, spits out

the computer asks to insert OS X install disk 2, but everytime I do It spits it out.
I cleaned it with a cotton swab and alcohol, I was running leopard when I started to re format but the machine originally came with Tiger, so I was re-installing 10.4 I believe, which was the original OS X that came with it.
i was re formatting
disk 1 installed
but now it wont read CD 2
it spits it out all the time
when i try to put in disk 1 to re start intallation it spits it out too,
What's the best way to finish installation or re booting from a different place?
I can't access any items on the menu they are all greyed out, it might be macbook pro 3,1 , but i'm not 100% sure
I tried NETBOOT, not working, C and D boots are not responsive, please help

It could be a bad disc 2. Thre's a modest number of reports of those here. If that's the case you can do a custom install stripped down to the extent that it doesn't ask for disc 2.  Most of the applications such as iTunes have newer versions anyway.
Not sure about your model MBP. If it came with Tiger you must install using the original discs. The black retail version won't work in an Intel Mac (except maybe a server version but let's not go there).
It could also be a bad optical drive.
If you have another Mac you could put the other Mac in Firewire Target mode and borrow its optical drive to run the installation. Don't boot the MBP in TDM and install from the other computer because the discs will just see the other model computer and refuse to work or put in something wrong. You need to boot just using the other computer's optical drive as a Firewire drive.

  • Disk drive spits out all disks!

My drive won't accept any kind of disk anymore, it just spits them out after a few seconds. This happened over night. Maybe some dirt got in through the slot or something? Is there anything I can do besides getting an external drive of some sort?

Have you tried resetting the pmu? It is kind of a catch all, resets the powerbook and hardware to default settings? Check out apple's support page http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449

  • Disk Drive spits out disks

I've had my iMac for about 2 years now and yesterday when I tried to stick a burned DVD in, it wouldn't go in. First it felt like something was stopping it, then when I tried again, it took it but spit it out again. I even tried feeling around with a stiff piece of paper but could feel nothing inside. I've even tried other disks to see if it was just having a problem with burned DVD's. It just won't accept anything. Any ideas?

I don't have any kids, and I don't stick anything in my superdrive except discs, but I have the exact same problem. Just got an American Gangster DVD from Netflix, and the macbook sounds like it's trying to read it 3 times, then ejects it. This happens with lots of different discs I get. I called Apple support, and they had me press a combination of keys, reboot, etc. That's a lot harder than playing the disc on my girlfriend's Windows laptop, which plays any disc I put into it -- even if it looks like someone placed it on concrete and then danced on top of it. Apple superdrive, you are junk. Why did I pay so much for this thing when a Windows laptop is $600?

I want to upgrade my 2007 Mac desktop to 10.5 Leopard. I am currently running on 10.4.11. When I put the leopard disk into the drive all it does is make a weird noise and then spits the disk right back out. It doesn't do this with any other discs, only this software. Is it still possible to update this computer?

    Yes. Try Amazon.
Before you do upgrade to Snow Leopard, make sure your Mac meets the requirements.
Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard - Technical Specifications
Make sure the disc you tried using doesn't have any fingerprints or smudges on it. The optical drive can't read the disk otherwise.
If your Mac won't read the disc, might be a good idea to rule out any problems with the startup disk BEFORE trying to upgrade the system.

  • Why does it keep spitting out my disk?

I just got a new MacBook Pro and I'm trying to install Office Mac. I put the disk in, it takes it, and a second later, spits it out. What's the deal? Do you have to do something before you insert a disk?

No, you don't need to do anything before inserting a disk.
Open 'Console' in the utilities folder of application and look at the log messages. That should give you some clues.
It might be a bad disk - try and see if another machine will mount it. If it spits out other disks, the drive could be bad.
Try resetting your SMC controller and PRAM (google this) to see if it solves things. This solved a drive issue I once had with a new MBP.
If none of the above helps, consider taking it back to the store or phone applecare (you have free telephone support and I guess they'll go through steps similar to above).
    Good luck.

  • My Macbook Pro is spitting out disks!

When ever i put a disk into my CD drive it just spits it out and makes this weird clicking noise if it accepts it. But then it wont do anything. Ive tried both CD's and DVD's and nothing... It jsut doesnt work. my macbook isnt even a full month old. anyone else had these issues. Apple store was no help!

Is it any disc you put in that it spits out or just this particular one?
If it is just that particular disc then it would suggest that there may be something wrong with it.
Cleaning would only help if you were experiencing similar problems with other discs.
If it is spitting out every disc you insert then you could try resetting the system management controller on your MacBook Pro. The reason I suggest this I had a similar problem on a MacBook G4 and as I had tried resetting everything else with no luck I decided to give restting the PMU a go and that cured it. So no gurantees but worth a shot.

  • My disk drive keeps spitting out my dvd that I'm trying to brun a slideshow on.

My disk drive keeps spitting out my dvd that I'm trying to brun a slideshow on. Why is it doing this and how can I fix ASAP?

You usually go all the way into the Burn process until it says "Insert a blank DVD now", THEN put in the DVD.
If you put the DVD in early, Mac OS X looks at it, decides it is blank and therefore useless, and spits it out.

  • Ipod nano stuck in disk mode and reset mode

My ipod which I haven't used for long came into my sight and i triedto use it and the battery was out. OK, so I charged it through my computer Windows XP with the usb. Of course my itunes program detected my nano. And it kept telling me to upgrade my nano so I clicked OK. after 2or 3 mins it was completed and it said to wait until nano reboots itself. But it won't... so i pulled it out.
Ok when i turned it on the gray screen with the apple logo in the middle appeared. It won't move anymore so I resetted it by pushing the center and the menu button and endless circulation began. 4secs later it blacked out and right after, the gray screen appeared again and again..until the battery wasout ..So I came here and knew about the center and play button so I tryed it worked so I was able to see my ipod on my itunes ,which did not appear before, and now it keeps on telling me to restore it because it was damaged. so I did. and now it came back as new. I wrote my new apod name ...etc. and after that I pulled it out. now it's stuck in disk mode and I can't move on,,,
I'm sorry the article is long but please help me!

Thank you, it worked just fine. I guess Apple has replaced operating instructions for these forums! Again, thanks for the help.

  • Why can't I upgrade from 10.5.8 to 10.6? My MPB spits out the disc before it ever appears on the desktop.

Why can't I upgrade from 10.5.8 to 10.6.3? My MPB spits out the disk before it ever appears on the desktop. The Snow Leopard disk is brand new, was still in shrink wrap until I opened it. I do have the hard drive partitioned, running Win XP with Boot Camp, if that might be the issue.

    Hey vlntrg,
I have a 2002 model Powerbook that will sometimes (most of the time) refuse to mount a CD or DVD. It just grunts for a while and then spits it back out. When this happens, I will slap the bottom of the machine several times with an open hand, not too hard and not too soft. I read this somewhere online (I forget where), and I was hesitant to try it, but it was cheaper than replacing the SuperDrive.
This will often allow me to insert and use the CD or DVD. I have also noticed that I have less trouble when the machine is cold than when it's warm.
I've not had this trouble with my MacBook Pro.
Another thought. Would it be possible to boot your machine in target disk mode and update your software using a friend's Mac? I'm sure there are others here who can better answer that question.
    Hope this helps.
    Andy

  • Mpc2500/dsc525 spitting out multiple blank pages

I've a  mac mini running mavericks 10.9.4.  I've a Gestetner MPC2500/DSc525 printer.  When I attempt to print something the printer merely spits out mostly blank pages.  some of the pages contain random lettering and numbers and special characters.  But there is nothing resembling the document I'm trying to print.  The printer will run until every last piece of paper has fed through the printer.
I've deleted the printer and added it again multiple times attempting to use different drivers.  I've installed using the drivers that were included on a disk, but I didn't really think that would work since it looks like the drivers were written in 2005.  I've gone to linuxfoundation.org and downloaded drivers from there, but when I tried to install them when installing the printer through the add printers dialogue, it won't allow me to select drivers that I've downloaded.  I've read on the apple site that this printer is supported and that the drivers are available.  It does appear that the drivers are available on my mac because on a few of my setup attempts I chose the select software option and in the list of available printer software was the model and number referenced in subject line of this post.  However, no matter how many times I do this, I always get the same result; multiple blank pages.
I've worked on this on and off for a month with no result.  I'me having to send documents to co-workers to ask them to print for me.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Hugh

I would agree with greg about trying the Generic PCL drivers.  Those will only give you black and white though.
In reading through your post, I don't think you actually installed the driver packages (pxlmono, Foomatic-RIP, Ghostscript) from the linuxfoundation.org site.  Many, many users get confused when there are software installers and disk images.  The very short version of the procedure is to temporarily disable Gatekeeper in the Security System Preferences.  Then double-click on each of the disk image (.dmg) files.  This will mount a pseudo disk that contains an installer.  Double click on the installer package to install the software.  It might be worth a look at http://www.howtogeek.com/177619/how-to-install-applications-on-a-mac-everything- you-need-to-know/ for a description of the various ways Mac software is distributed and installed.
Once the software from linuxfoundation.org is installed, you should not have to point the Printer & Scanners pane to any software.  You should easily be able to see the Gestetner MPC2500/DSc525 PXL driver.

  • Spits out DVD-R instead of opening iDVD per system pref

I have tried DVD-R and DVD+R, 8x and 4x... spits them out after 10 seconds of confused contemplation. Pre-made/homemade CD's and DVD's play fine. When I want to burn a disc with iDVD or burn folders... nada under me user AND test user. Arrrrgh!

Nope. Even with a choice of what to do with myself, we still spit out the disks.
My uppity mac book will only use the $20+ packs of DVDs? What is that about, Mac? What a SNOB! Mac is so good that it is too good for my DVDs? I'll have to sell the computer to buy the compatible discs!

  • Mini stuck in Disk Mode

I'm having a problem in which my mini is stuck in disk mode after I eject it from itunes, or off the desktop. I've tried resetting it, but nothing happens all I see is disk mode with the large check symbol followed by the ok to disconnect message. I have restored it using the most current ipod updater, and it hasn't changed a thing. Last night I was unable to transfer any music to it, I'd get a message saying the disk couldn't be read or written to, however I was just able to transfer a couple of songs after changing the connection cord to USB. I tried connecting it to the outlet with the adaptor, and the battery shows as fully charged.
On occasion it'll show a folder with an exclamation and the web address to this forum. I forgot to mention I ran it through disk utility and both verifying disk and repairing disk showed the iPod was ok. Has anyone experienced anything similar? and if so, help?
I looked to find a topic covering this, but most everyone's issue was resolved with a reset.

Thanks for the reply. I left the iPod disconnected overnight so it could discharge the battery, which it did since it was perpetually "on" in Disk Mode. My hopes where dashed when clicking the select button and seeing the apple logo pop up, to seeing it go right back into disk mode. I've since recharged it and still have the same issue. Whatever the issue is, it doesn't seem to be a problem with the battery.
The "enable disk use" option is grayed out in manual song managing...I toggled it on to automatic to see if anything would change but it didn't.
The iPod itself seems to work fine while connected. I can move songs back nd forth, I can even play music off it (though is it actually playing off the iPod if its in its dock or just playing from your library I wonder). It's only when I eject the iPod that I have any problems.
