  • Stuck on language screen

My ipod is stuck on language screen, (4th.gen 20gig) I left it in a cooler and went swimming in water. It turns on but gets stuck on language screen. I went into itunes and restored it but after plugging into wall it won't get past the language screen. It plays in itunes with songs visible.Would it be the hard drive if still plays in itunes? The motherboard?

Well darn, my daughters ipod does have a color display but is only 2 gigs maybe I'm in the wrong section... the genius at the genius bar called it a nano... whatever that is, but judgeing from the less than polite discussion boards across the internet, this "hold button" issue transends model type. Anyway, here's what I did, maybe ya'll get a chuckle out of it. I carefully removed the cover using a guitar pick, (Remember it's out of warranty so this is a last ditch effort before I chuck it in the fireplace) checked out the switch mechanism that's part of the back cover. It looks OK. Manually moved the actual swith on the PC board to "unlocked" as well as the one on the back cover. Put it all back together, plugged it in to my computer, and much to my surprise (but probably not yours) it's still locked up with the nifty little padlock icon in the upper left hand corner. cool huh?

i have a 5th gen ipod nano that freezes when playing songs. i can't skip, turn down volume, turn ipod off. it simply screeches as the song is stuck at a specific point. any suggestions?

You have 2 options:  #1 - iPod Repair Tutorials
#2 - take the iPod Nano to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

  • Connecting a 5th Gen Ipod to 2010 Hyundai Tuscon

Im using a 5th Gen ipod with my new 2010 Hyundai Tuscon. The car is equipped with 2 jacks one is a aux jack for a 2.5mm headphone jack and the other is a USB jack. The dealership gave me a special cable that is fused together. One end has a 2.5mm male plug while the other is a male USB connector which plugs into the car stereo. The other end connects to the bast of the IPOD.
Ive been struggling with this for sometime now months actually.. The issue is.. While my ipod is plugged into the car stereo using the dealership provided cable the sound is dampened pretty much sounds like crap.. Lack of bass sometimes too much treble and sometimes not enough and most times lack of volume. I find myself cranking the main stereo up just to get good sound levels.
At first I was really disheartened as with my previous car it had a 200 watt stereo system in it with infinity speakers and had the same kind of ipod connection and the sound was phenomenal.
However with the Tuscon the sound as I said earlier.. sounds like crap.. I have even went as far as replacing the factory speakers with Alpines which got good reviews.. The sound did improve for the most part but still lacking.
Last night I tried a few experiments and have finally nailed it. The things I tried were:
    1) Using a regular male to male 2.5mm plug to plug into the headphone port on the ipod then connect to the aux port of my car stereo and then used my regular IPOD USB sync cable to plug into the base for data exchange between the car and the IPOD=Unfortunately The Tuscon didnt like that.. it will not connect with the ipod both ports on the car must be utilized somehow at the same time which is ********!
    2) THE WINNING CHOICE= I just stuck with using the 2.5mm male to male cord and connected my IPOD direct to the aux port and omitted the USB connectivity. The sound now has increased 10 maybe even 20 fold.. it actually sounds better than my old car stereo.. The only draw back and I will miss it is that w/o the USB connectivity between the car and th IPOD I will not be able to control the IPOD from my steering wheel or see on the LCD panel of the car stereo what im actually playing.
I did rig the ipod in a cup holder at my side so I can see the ipod screen and use the scroll wheel so im not completely lost.. I just weighed my options $500 + dollars for a new audio system or a rigged ipod to dramatically increase sound quality.. I went with option 2. I think i will be getting an ipod touch eventually though since it has voice control which would be really helpful when you are driving.
Anyways Sorry for the long rant.. I thought I would post this here in case there were other Hyundai Tuscon owners out there beating their brains out like I have been to increase the sound quality. of the factory stereo

You need iTunes 10.6.8 or later and iTunes 10.7.

  • 5th gen iPod Touch crashes spontaneously

    Hi there
My 5th Gen iPod Touch crashes at random times, usually when on wifi.  When it does this, it resets my clock by ten or twenty or thirty minutes and I have to fix the time because it does not automatically restore via the Internet.  I tried restoring my iPod, both at home and at the Apple Store, but when the person helping me ran a diagnostic on it I was told nothing came up.  My diagnostic data was still on the iPod and I had three kernel panic reports and about eight reset counter reports, so I'm not sure why I was told that.  I've seen a similar thread on here saying it was probably the battery, so I thought that was the problem, but I've just been told otherwise.  I don't know what to do because last night I plugged in my iPod and left the room, then came back to find the screen cracked (I'm guessing having to do with the battery).  No one else was in the room and I didn't drop it.  Because I don't know how to reproduce the problem, I'm having a hard time proving it exists regardless of diagnostic data, and now it looks like I dropped it and that damaged the device, when that is honestly not the case.  Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thank you.

    Hello
No, I did not restore from backup.  I restored to factory settings at the Apple Store and when I got home and tried to set up my email, my iPod restarted again.  The time reset to ten minutes previous.
I'm mentioning the crash reports because they all correspond to the times my iPod restarted.  It has crashed four times in the last hour and all I've done is download two apps (Podcasts and Skype) and added my email accounts.
    Thanks very much.

  • 5th Gen Ipod does not show photo tab under preferences

I am trying to get pics onto my Ipod. The ipod tutorials suggest going to a photo tab which I do not have. I can not update the Ipod because Itunes 7 says that Ipod is already up to date? Is anyone having this problems?

can you check something for me? what icon is showing up in the itunes sourcelist? is it a wee picture of your 5th G, or does it look quite different?
what version of the firmware is being cited in the "summary" tab you see when you select the ipod in the sourcelist? is that the same version that you see in the "About" screen on your ipod?
Where's the iPod About screen, and what's in it?

  • 5th Gen iPod seen in iTunes, shows sync complete within seconds but nothing

5th Gen iPod seen in iTunes, shows sync complete within seconds but nothing actually gets transferred. iTunes64 bit on new laptop. Has synced successfully for a couple weeks.
This is my spouse's device and she is away for awhile. Is she stuck or try a restore? Don't want to do that until last resort in case ipod will not load afterwards.

mine used to freeze randomly during songs and i re-set it twice and that worked.

  • 5th Gen iPod Still Not Updating to Latest Software

Since my last qery I've not done much with my iPod but yesterday I decided to bite the bullet and go for it. I formatted my 5th Gen iPod in Windows and deleted all content from it.
After re-starting my PC iTunes started and recognised my iPod and started the update process. It downloaded and unzipped the software and started to update - farther than I've got before so things were looking up. Then "Error 1418..." again!!
My iPod seems to be destined to be stuck on version 1.2.3 firmware unless any of you kind and knowledgable people out there have any new ideas because the 5 R's a format and numerous update and restore attempts have all failed.
    Any suggestions please?
    P.S. Happy Easter!

You may refer to this tutorial, it's about how to fix iTunes sync problem with iPod. Hope it helps. Feel free to email me if you need further help.

  • Why won't my 5th Gen Ipod touch switch on?

I have had my 5th Gen Ipod touch for 1 week. This morning it wouldn't switch on, the screen just stays black. Neither itunes or my computer recognise it but if I plug it into a mains charger the apple logo flashes slowly. I have tried everything suggested in the forums. Is there anything else I can do? Or is it a trip to the apple store?

    Try:
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • 5th Gen. iPod overall performance

    I need opinions on this:
while playing a song, if I start skipping songs, eventually I hit about a 5+ second lag before it even loads the text for the selected song. I wouldn't have thought this was weird except for the fact that, on a 20GB iPod (color screen), the song selecting seemed much more instantanious with only a 2 or so second lag before loading the new song. This seems to be the case with browsing the photo library as well.
Is this abnormal behavior for my 5th Gen. iPod with just over 16GB of data on it? I didn't check how much space was being used on the 20GB iPod, but does this sound abnormal at all? Should it be performing faster, or is this all relative to how much of the hard drive is being used?

Hacking or modding any iPod goes against Apple's policies for proper use, hence it is not permitted, as per the Terms of Use, to discuss such things on Apple Discussions.
I would suggest visiting some other iPod forums (ilounge.com perhaps) to discuss this.
You're more likely to get a reply if you post there.

  • 5th Gen iPod & Prev Gen iPod

I have an iPod that I bought in Sept. 2004. It still works and I love it. It's still the black/white screen version, and no video capability of course.
My friend just got a 5th Gen iPod with video, color screen, etc. It's great too.
We were wondering if we could synch our iPod together via her laptop, or if this were to cause a problem. Do I need to configure my iPod in any way? I have v6.0 iTunes running on my computer and my iPod is synched to my computer very easily. I have downloaded a few eps of Lost, and my iPod has obviously not downloaded those. We just wanted to make sure that we won't have any problems if we do do this.
    Thanks.
    iPod   Windows XP

    Melxb,
So you want to copy the songs that are on your iPod, onto her iPod, and vice versa?
Unless you own the CDs that are on her iPod, and she owns the CDs that are on your iPod, what you're trying to do is illegal.
You won't get much help on this forum for this (which amounts to stealing music).
If that isn't the case, my apologies.

  • 5th gen iPod freezing

I have a 5th gen iPod (MA146FB) that has been unused for a while. It is charged up now, but the screen keeps freezing, so I have to keep rebooting it - any ideas what might be causing this and what I can do to stop it? One thing I have noticed is that the hard drive sometimes seems a bit noisy (clicks). I have already reset the machine, but it still seems to freeze (click the menu button a few times and the screen locks, music still plays but all buttons unresponsive until reboot)

There are a two possibilities here, one being corrupt software that runs the iPod, or a dying hard disk (which would explain the loud clicks).  Have you tried restoring the iPod in iTunes yet?
It might not hurt to run a check disk on it using the Tools provided by Windows as well (assuming you are using a PC and not a Mac).

  • 5th Gen iPod repair question

i have a 5th gen ipod that does not respond. ive tried everything, nothing seems to work, it wont even show up on my computer. im thinking there is something wrong with either the battery or main board. ive only had it for about 2 months so it should still be under warrenty and i dont see why apple wouldnt replace it for me but the real question is my front pannel around the screen is messed up kinda bad.. you can still see with the backlight on but still its messed up. Will they not replace my ipod because of this? im mailing it in, and i just dont want to be charged without knowing our penalized in any way.
5th Gen iPod with video   Windows XP

okay but the front is cosmetic damage, which the sun messed it up (i guess i will have to take the blame for that one) so will they not give me a new ipod because of the cosmetic damage?

  • How do I use 5th Gen iPod and 2009 Civic USB?

I tried everything I can think of to get my iPod working with my 2009 Civic. From what I've read in the manual, I just be able to plug it into the USB and the car finds it, displays the Honda "H" logo/mark on the screen and away I go. I wish it were that simple.
I have a 5th Gen iPod with verison 1.3 firmware. It's formatted for Windows so it's a FAT32 storage format. I restored the iPod and put the music I wanted back on it so I could test again and still no dice. I don't have another iPod to test with.
Is there something I missed? Anyone help me? Thanks in advance.

The problem ended up being the controller board/card/box (whichever of these) in the car that was malfuctioning. I gathered that they had to do some diagnostics, comparitive testing (with another vehicle and audio system known to work), and test my audio system before isolating and replacing the controller.
I bought my Honda Cerified Used, so it was all covered by the dealer and Honda. I asked what it would cost had the car not been Cerfited Used. I was given an estimate of $350 USD. I know labor alone was $198 USD.
So, if you are expericing the same issue of no connectivity between your Honda and i(Device) and your car DOES NOT display any sort of error message on the audio system, this may be your problem. If you wish to get it fixed without a warranty to cover it, the cost will neighbor $350 USD. An alternative and cheaper option is to buy a headphone to headphone jack audio cable, plugging one end into your AUX outlet (if equipped) and the other your i(Device). Plugging into the AUX outlet does not charge or let you control your i(Device) through the car stereo.
Thanks planb77 for responding to my post.
    Cheers.
