Stuck on restore screen cannon restore phone
i got this iphone from a friend (its a 3g1203) and its been working well ever since i got it. the other day i noticed it was working extremely slow and not opening files so i decided to restore it. thats when the real trouble started. it will restore sometimes to the point where it will ask if you want to set it up as a new phone or as an old phone, and start downloading music or apps, and sometimes it wont even get that far. every time i try to restore no matter how far i get in the process i get a message saying "unable to download software, check your connection or try back later" (i get a similar message on my mac)
ive tried everything i can find, im particularly tired of looking up this topic and finding "just hard reset". the topics i find are mainly people just stuck on the connect to itunes screen (which is part of my problem) but nothing that says how to get my phone to properly download the software (which i think is the main cause of my problem)
thanks in advance for your help
Thanks for all the input. After I posted this I talked to someone else at the apple store who was more experienced and he told me to set it up as a new iPad on iTunes to get past that screen and assured me it would work (even tho it sounded odd). So I went ahead and did that and it worked, moved on to the summary screen and found all the rest of my files that I couldn't find before. He explained the hierarchy (?) of what reloads and what has to be done manually. He was much more knowledgeable than the others and would have saved me a lot of time if I had talked to him sooner. I still need to figure out how to reload my videos but at least I know I have everything. Thanks again!

I'm stuck on activation screen because my phone won't accept my password for my apple i.d. I reformat and reset and updated everything but it still wont go through..please help
Try making a new Apple ID? I don't really understand what you mean.. Make a new apple ID, log in with that one and then when you are on your phone log out of it and THEN log in our old ID? If you still can't log in the old one then it's most probably a bug or something.. Anyway.. Good luck with your problem!!

how can I keep my data doing a hard recovery on my phone? I uploaded newest version and phone is stuck on a screen telling me to plug phone into computer and go to iTunes, when I do this, iTunes says my phone is in recovery and I need to restore, Can anyone please help me get my phone back without losing anything?
You shouldn't have to restore your phone to keep your data. But first press home and on button at the same time until phone shows up Apple logo an boots up normally. When the phone comes back on plug into ituens and back it up by selecting "Back Up Now". Once backed up, you can press update and install 7.1.1 and it will restore and recover all your previously backed up data. You can also press "update" and itunes will automtically back up the phoen and install 7.1.1.

Error 6 when trying to restore. Phone is stuck in restore mode
I have an iphone in front of me which is stuck in restore mode. I plug it into iTunes, choose restore, choose a firmware (3.1.2) and begin the restore process. I get the following message:
The iPhone 'iPhone' could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (6).
If I press more info, the console appears, and the last 2 lines show the following:
Restore failed (result = 6)
iTunes[24792:207]: iTunes: Restore error 6
I'm using Mac OS X 10.6.2, iTunes 9.0.3. I've tried using a different user account - no luck. I also tried pointing gs.apple.com to 74.208.10.249 in /etc/hosts thinking maybe it was an activation problem - no luck.
Hoping someone can help - otherwise I've got a very expensive paperweight!
MattFirst delete all .ipsw files on your computer. In OSX they are located here:
~/Library/Application Support/iTunes/iPod/iphone Firmware
If you have your firewall turned on, disable it. Then see if you can force the phone into recovery mode:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, itunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.
Also, any reason why you have not updated to 10.6.2? You might try updating to 10.6.2 FIRST & also make sure itunes is up to date, version 9.0.3. -
I got a new ipod touch for Christmas.
Today I was going to put music on it, i was told there was updates.
So I went ahead to do them.
My Ipod is stuck on the screen with the usb cord pointing to the itunes logo.
In Itunes i'm told :
Itunes has dected an ipod in recovery mode. You must restore this ipod before it can be used with itunes.
Turning the ipod off - the same screen appears when it's back on.
When I click restore ipod and after restore and update is clicked ; Extracting software loads up at the top.
When its done this is the message I get:
The iPod 'iPod' cannot be restored at this time because the ipod software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable.
I've been looking up trying to figure it out myself and have read making sure a setting in Lan Settings in Internet Properties has ; Automatically detect settings checked. I still get the same ipod message.
I've tried holding the power and home key to turn it off, then powering it back on. But that doesn't work.
I installed itunes today, so its up to date - I checked.
I don't know what else to do.
Can someone help me out, please? :}
The operating system was ios 5 something? It wanted to update to 6 i believe.I've tried the top part but now that i've looked to the bottom:
Additional Information
The “hosts” file may also be blocking gs.apple.com.
Select the hosts file (normally you can find your hosts file at C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC).
I put this in the url bar?
When it gives me the list of names, im not sure what to do from there. The steps aren't that clear for me. -

i have a classic that seems to be stuck in restore mode, the screen says "do not disconnect'' and i can't restore using itunes. i have tried resetting it and still no good, what can i do to fix this problem ?
Be good to know what the diagnostic results are.
I've also just run into an issue where I couldn't restore an iPod with a corrupt file system, and the "super fix" in that linked article wasn't working for me. I've run across a potentially useful workaround.
iPod Classic went on the fritz today just after syncing. Couldn't restore via iTunes, kept getting 1439 errors, Windows wouldn't format as FAT32, claimed the "Volume is too big for FAT32". Finally tracked down EaseUS Partition Master Home Edition (Free) and formatted as FAT32 with 128k clusters. The iPod is filling back up again. Might be worth a shot here...

My iTouch will not restore becuase for some reason it won't reconize it. I merely tried to update it with the newest software and every thing went to sh--. Now it is just stuck on the screen showing the apple sign. Can anyone help me.
There's a whole lot to read in your post, and frankly I have not read it all.
Having said that, this troubleshooting guide should help:

In particular, pay attention to the mobile device support sections near the bottom, assuming you have already done the items above it. -
I tried to restore my iPhone 4s through iTunes and received error message that Restore could not be completed due to error 2003. Phone now not recognized in iTunes, with repeated prompts to restore phone. Now phone w/screen with iTunes symbol and USB cord can't use. It appears the phone has been restored, but I cannot activate it.
I disabled my anti-software, iTunes and computer software (microsoft vista) are both up to date, I restarted the computer several times. My usb ports are working properly. I followed the troubleshooting suggestions from apple.yes did you buy it of somebody or a well known company such as apple or carphone warehouse?
and i mean the phone would have been activated in the first place with the sim card you get given when you first get the phone.
trying to activate the phone with another sim card that you did not get when you brought the phone may result in you not being able to activate it
no worries -

i was trying to update my iphone 5 but it got stuck on itune screen. whenever i try to restore it says error (1669) what can i do. please help
Try these troubleshooting steps.
If that Article did not resolve it... then perhaps a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is required..
Be sure to make an appointment first...
Note:
That error message may be indicative of the Device being Hacked / jailbroken.... If this is the case then you are on your own.
Unauthorized modification of iOS...
