Stuck on start up screen after installing Mountain Lion.

I installed Mountain Lion and when my computer restarted it will not go pass the start up page. Any ideas?

The fact that your version of Photoshop is incompatible with Mountain Lion is completely unreleated to why your installation had an error. If you'd like to read more about Apple's incompatible software functions heres an article on it:
About incompatible software (Mac OS X v10.6, OS X Lion, OS X Mountain Lion)
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3258
Additionally when you upgrade and have third party applications, it'd be wise to look around before doing a major operating system upgrade. Just searching for 30 seconds I found this from Adobe's blog:
http://blogs.adobe.com/vikrant/2012/07/adobe-creative-suite-and-mountain-lion-ma c-os-x-10-8/
It's on you to take personal accountability for what you add to your Mac. Sorry.

Ive just upgraded my late 2009 macbook, and things are not working properly. First of all, when I started the computer first time after installing Mountain Lion, some message advised me that some files were impossible to install. Once I wrote my password, and for now on, everytime I start the session, another window advise me that "Java SE 6" is missing, due that, the computer can't run some "CS5Service Manager". If I try to install it, the download ends with an error. If finally, you skip the istallation, you arrive to the dock, but the menu bar at the top of the screen doesn't show up.
In addition, my trackpad doesn't works either. I can move the arrow but i can't click anywhere, probably because the option of clicking by touching is disabeled and I can't performance a regular click.
I'll be very glad if someone know what the heck is happening with my computer. Anyway, I'm going to the genius bar next Saturday. Thx!

    We're sorry.

  • After installing Mountain Lion, my iTunes app wont start, why ???

After installing Mountain Lion, my iTunes app wont start, why ??? It bounces in the dock, then "Unexpectedly Quirs"

    Let's keep it simple...
    1) Make a new user - the steps are in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1199
    2) Log into that user, open iTunes, agree, etc. - it will probably work
    3) If it does, it tells us that iTunes (the program) is fine but it's encountering something unexpected
    4) Go back to your user, and try to open iTunes while holding option and making a new library - like suggested in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1589
    5) Your iTunes will be empty. This is ok. Your files are not touched by this process.
    6) If iTunes doesn't quit when loading an empty library, you could try rebuilding the iTunes Library as Apple documents in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
    7) If iTunes does quit, it could be trying to grab something - like photo information to sync to your iPad - and that's where it finds the unexpected data. Maybe try moving the iPod Photo Cache? http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1324 should guide you for how to do that.
If you tell us whether it is library-specific, user-specific, or system-wide (happens in both users), we could maybe give you better advice on what's going on.'
If the new user has the same behavior, maybe remove the SC Info folder - there are not many system-wide files iTunes touches. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1389 covers how to remove that invisible folder.
iTunes uses /Applications/iTunes.app, /Users/Shared/SC Info, ~/Music/iTunes/ and ~/Library/Preferences/ and a bunch of other files. I don't think focusing on /Applications/iTunes/app or other system-wide files is going to be as effective as knowing whether the issue is system-wide or user-specific.
I hope this helps and feel free to reply if this is all confusing.

  • Time Machine won't work after installing Mountain Lion

After installing Mountain Lion, I am unable to restore a file from time machine. I click on the time machine icon. It shows the bakups, I click on a previous backup but the screen doesn't roll back to the date. It only shows the current files. Example: I am trying to restore an email that was lost. I try to do a restore and it shows emails up to today even though I am asking for a back-up from a month ago.
    Bob

Sorry, but I'm still not sure what you're seeing.
Are you starting from Mail, per the blue box in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #15?
Are you trying to restore emails from a mailbox in the "On My Mac" section?
Do the older backups not appear in the TimeLine at all, or do they appear but are faded-out?
    Posting a screenshot might help.

  • After installing Mountain Lion finder quits when I open desktop folder - why?

After installing Mountain Lion, finder quits when I open desktop folders.  Not all folders..  I does it to new ones.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • After installing Mountain Lion, my Time Machine won't back up ... says the sparsebundle is in use

After installing Mountain Lion, my Time Machine won't back up ... says the sparsebundle is in use

Standard problem in ML.. apple do not seem to want to recognise.
Reboot the TC .. if that fails restart the whole network in correct order.. modem.. router/TC... clients.. with 2min gap.
There are other suggestions like changing the password.. all they do is the same as reboot.
Read C12.. most quoted Q in pondini website history. This is asked 10 times a day.
    http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
Here is another way to get a useful utility in ML.. rather than toyland version.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.

  • HT1338 After install mountain lion my superdrive do not work

i facing problem after install mountain lion 10.8.2. my superdrive do not work properly , when i insert a disk to superdrive after 20-30 seconds left cd eject. if you have any solution about solve this problem , pls tell me.

After recently upgrading my mid-2010 Mac Mini from Lion to Mountain Lion 10.8.2 my superdrive stopped working. I did a clean install of Lion to a blank SSD. Then I upgraded to Mountain Lion from the App Store. Then I tried reading a Windows 7 installation DVD. Any DVD I insert in the internal superdrive is not recognized by the system and is ejected after a few seconds.
I tried cleaning the superdrive with a DVD lens cleaner. This did not fix the problem.
I tried a SMC reset. This did not fix the problem.
I tried an NVRAM/PRAM reset. This did not fix the problem.
I read on a related thread...
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4150905?start=30&tstart=0
...that many Mountain Lion users have experienced the same issue.
I opened the Console to look for new messages appearing after inserting a DVD-ROM into the superdrive. No messages appeared while the superdrive whirred a few times and then ejected the DVD-ROM.
Apple have been made aware of the issue but no patch has been issued. Mountain Lion 10.8.2 is the current version with no updates available at the time of writing.
Some users with dual-boot systems have booted into Windows and their superdrive works fine. This points to a software issue with Mountain Lion. The problem appears to affect some systems and not others.
Other users have reported that their superdrive works again after downgrading to Lion or Snow Leopard.
I'm going to try booting ML into Safe Mode to see if the superdrive works. I'll then try downgrading to Lion or Snow Leopard to see if the superdrive works ok. That at least will confirm that it is a Mountain Lion upgrade related issue and not a superdrive hardware failure.
Then we will have to wait for a patch from Apple to resolve the issue so we can upgrade to ML without losing use of the optical drive!

  • Microsoft Word Intermittently Crashing After Installing Mountain Lion

After installing Mountain Lion (10.8), Microsoft Word 2011 (v 14.2.3, currently the latest update) is intermittently crashing.  This is not the error I have seen reported elsewhere where Word crashses on start up.  Rather, it starts fine, runs for a while, then suddently freezes and gives an error message.  Unfortunately I do not remember the full error message, but it stated something like "Microsoft Office  cannot write to the hard drive..."  I was prevously running Microsoft Office 2011 and had no problems until upgrading to Mountain Lion.
So far I tried repaired disk permissions, both via the disk utility application and by restarting while holding down the option key to boot into disk utility directly.  This did not solve the problem.
I also checked the activity monitor, because after crashing the computer starts running very hot.  The activity monitor shows a process called "mtmd", which is using 50-80% of the CPU.  This activity seems to persist until the computer is restarted again.
I also checked fonts in Font Book, but there appear to be no duplicate fonts, which I thought might cause a problem in Word.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi there,
I've been getting the same error message for teh last few days. Word and Mountain Lion seemed to be playing well together until the last MS update (now running Word 2011 14.2.3). Fans go into overdrive and always a reboot required. Additionally, my DOCX is gone from where it was saved and in place only a word.tmp file remains. Sometimes I can open the temp file and recover all of the data but sometimes not. Luckily Time Machine has saved me on both occasions when the tmp file wouldn't open.
Excel and Powerpoint are currently running very smoothly (in fact I dare say better than previously).
I've tried running the DOCX from local drives and two external drives all with the identical results.  However, after this occurring for the nth time I noticed that it seems to occur when Time Machine kicks in. I'm presently testing it with Time Machine turned off and all seems ok. Though it does kind of defeat the purpose!

  • Mac pro won't wake up after installing Mountain Lion

After installing Mountain Lion in my Mac Pro it won't wake up after long periods of sleep. I have tried unplugging it for 15 seconds and plugging it back in and starting it back up. No help. I've reset the Pram with no change.
    Chuck

Two calls into tech support, but I think they may have helped me fix this.
    CHECK:
    \Library\LaunchAgents
    \Library\LaunchDaemons
    \Library\StartupItems
remove any third party software and set aside.  (they told me I could keep some adobe, microsoft and HP items)
    THEN CHECK:
System Preferences --> Users + Groups -->Login Items
remove any third party stuff from in there.
I'll know tomorrow morning if this REALLY works, but it dfefinitely allowed my computer to sleep and wakeup over a short period of time.

  • TS3147 After installing Mountain Lion, I tried to scan from my Canon MX870 and received the message: "MP Navigator EX quit unexpectedly. Click Reopen to open the application again. A report will be sent to Apple,"

After installing Mountain Lion, I tried to scan from my Canon MX870 and received the message: "MP Navigator EX quit unexpectedly. Click Reopen to open the application again. A report will be sent to Apple,"  This problem happened right after I installed Mountain Lion. I then downloaded Canon's upgraded software and drivers for the MX 870 and the problem was resolved. Now one month later, the problem has returned.

    rjliii wrote:
Solved problem with original Canon software.  When I downloaded Canon software upgraded for OS X 10.8, I got all by Navigator Ex. Noticed that on Canon's site, the upgraded version is 3.1; my app was 2.1. Upgraded to 3.1 for Nav. Ex, and it works.
You should still use Image Capture IMHO.  If it was my gear, that's what I would do.  No need to worry about software upgrades.
