Stuck on waiting for device to become ready...

I did a slide show on iDVD now I'm trying to burn it on a Phillips dvd but it reads waiting for device to become ready. this continues & it does not burn the dvd. I tried the save as disk image but the same thing happens. the utility was no help on getting it started

Hi Don't:
Just assuming here (which is always dangerous)...
Is there any audio associated with your slideshow?

PS Verbatim DVD-R (you are using DVD-R, right?) is about the best there is....

  • "Waiting for device to become ready" can't burn additional copies

I created an iMovie and burned about six copies on iDVD. When i went to put in the seventh disk it sort of froze up with the "Waiting for device to become ready" message never going away. I attempted to shut everything down, even turned the computer off for awhile thinking maybe it was overheated but several hours later its doing the same thing. It will burn the first copy but get hung up when attempting to burn additional ones. Any suggestions???

It's often recommended areound here to let the optical drive cool down after burning 3-4 disks in a row.
See if you can burn any kind of disk via the Finder to make sure the drive is OK.  Also I suggest you follow this workflow for future projects:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
The save as disk image as mishmumken recommended will save you from having to reencode the project if you want to burn another copy at a later date.  It also lets you verify the encoding process before committing the project to disk.

  • "waiting for device to become ready" then ejects

    Hello,
I have two music videos set up as chapters and am trying to burn a DVD with this.
Everything plays fine when "reviewing" then when I hit "burn dvd" it asks for a recordable disc. I put in a DVD-R disc, which has plenty of room on it, and it accepts it. Then is says "waiting for device to become ready" spins it around, stops it, spins it around, stops it, and ejects the disc and says "no disc in drive. please insert a recordable disc".
Yes, I have a DVD superdrive that can burn DVDs. I do not understand what is going on!!!

says "no disc in drive. please insert a recordable disc"
Either your media is bad or your burner is bad.
Are you certain the media has never been used? What brand and rated burn speed is the media? To test the media and the burner independent of iDVD, try burning a data DVD from the finder.

  • IPhone: Stuck on "Waiting for device to connect.."

I just had to reinstall the latest 2.0 build after something trashed my iPod Touch, and now I can no longer install software on it. I get the very non-specific "Waiting for device to become ready in 5 seconds". When that expires, nothing happens.
    Any ideas?

Found it: Something in xcode got confused. Rebooting the machine got things talking to each other again.

  • [Restore] "Waiting for iPod to become Ready"? [ver 1.2 iTunes 7.0]

I just updated my iTunes from version 6.0.5 to 7.0. This install also updated my iPod. My iPod is no longer read by my computer or any other. ***? Now when I attmept to connect it to any Mac it freezes up and fails to mount. Come on apple. Also, why the is there no longer an iPod preference section in the new iTunes. I keep trying to Restore the firmware, but I keep getting the "Waiting for iPod to become ready" message.
    Attempted solutions:
    • Re-installing iTunes 7.0 (no luck)
    • Resetting the iPod (no luck)
    • Forcing the iPod into disk mode (no luck)
    • Re-installing iPod software (iPod won't mount...so that didn't work)

You may want to look at this:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61705
I had the same problem and was able to fix it by following the directions on resetting the iPod, renaming the iPod and also ensuring that I removed any files that might not be understood by the iPod from the 'notes' folder on the iPod (if you have enabled disk access):
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=3111498#3111498
PS: If you need to get out of the 'Do not disconnect' screen so that you can apply these changes you need to hold down the 'menu' and 'select' or center button until you see the Apple logo. When the iPod mount you can proceed to reset the iPod to original settings which will erase everything from the iPod but not your iTunes library on your computer

  • Satellite L300-29U hangs at waiting for ODD to become ready

    I sell Toshiba's.
I always make recovery dics for my customers. I do it on Philips DVD's.
Now I have tried Windows 7 on one positively and tried to recover to vista again before selling the laptop.
The problem is that when I try to recover, the system hangs at "waiting for ODD to become ready "
    I tried several things,
    -formatting the harddisk
    -removing the partition
-windows vista oem CD (installs fine, so does 7) etc etc.
I have another laptop in stock so I used the recovery discs of that one, result is that it hangs at the same point.
Now I tried to restore the other laptop (same model) and there the recovery dvd hangs at the same point.
I think there is an programming error in the recovery dvd program.

    Not a chance.
Toshiba is sending out an update for the imaging program because they found out it did not work themselves.
Now just wait for the helpdesk to send out free copies for the people who burnt themselves faulty rescue dvd's?

What are you backing-up to? That message indicates it may not be fully compatible with Time Machine.
If you've done everything in #D2, and it's a NAS, check with the maker. They may have updates or other troubleshooting info. Or it may be a hardware problem.

  • Stuck on calculating changes - Waiting for index to be ready

I've got a Time Machine which had my disk properly backed up (~500 Gigs). Then, I used Entourage Time Machine to save my email database to a set of local XML files (tens of thousands of new files). Since then, it's stuck on Calculating Changes; I tried stopping it, removing the .plist file, stopping/restarting the service, etc. I restarted it again and now it's once again on Calculating Changes for 12 hours now. Time Machine Buddy says "Waiting for index to be ready". Could it possibly really be doing what it needs to do or is it stuck somehow and is there anything else I can do??
    thanks in advance,
    Mike

    Michael Levin wrote:
Then verify your internal HD and repair your backups, per #A5 in Troubleshooting.
did that - repaired the disk, no problems found.
Uh, you need to check your internal, too, if you didn't. It's probably ok, but it's best to be sure. Then Restart your Mac.

Waiting for index to be ready (100)
Waiting for index to be ready (100)
A few of those may not be a problem, especially after a failed backup. The backups have to be indexed for TM to work right.
why isn't the index ready - could it have anything to do with Spotlight (which is also going like mad, but at least now gives a time estimate) - is that the index it's talking about??
Perhaps. Both Spotlight and Time Machine use the mds process to index.

Ok, so I disabled Spotlight, deleted all the .Spotlight files on all volumes, and restarted Time Machine having excluded the Entourage database and 56 Gigs worth of .xml files of individual messages.

No pre-backup thinning needed: 24.38 GB requested (including padding), 983.14 GB available
The deep traversal completed. It found about 20 GB to back up (plus 20% for workspace -- the "padding" in the message).
Error: Flushing index to disk returned an error: 0
That's another problem writing the index to the TM drive.
Try a +*Repair Disk+* on it again, and make sure all connections are snug and secure, and try the backup again.
If this continues, it's beginning to look like a problem with the disk or connections. Try different ports, cables, and combinations of the two -- cables do deteriorate, and a plug that works fine in one port may not make good contact in another one.

  • Sync stuck on "waiting for items to copy"

When using iTunes running on a Mac to sync to iPads, the sync becomes stuck on "waiting for items to copy."
We are running iTunes 11.1.5 on a MacBook Pro running OS X Mavericks 10.9.2.  We have three iPads -- iPad 2 + cellular, iPad (4th generation) + cellular, iPad Mini + cellular -- all of which are running iOS 7.1.1.  We have had this problem with all three devices since upgrade to iOS 7.x.  The iPad 2 was upgraded from iOS 6.x several months after the other two were upgraded, and did not have this problem until the upgrade.
When attempting to sync, the sync generally becomes stuck on the last step, "waiting for items to copy."  Usually there are few items -- an album or movie here, a play list there, occasionally an app -- that will not sync.  Sometimes they used to be on the iPad in question, but during the sync they disappear.  Other times I am trying to add them to the iPad.  In both cases, after the "waiting for items to copy" disappears (because the sync stops unfinished or because I just cancel the sync), iTunes thinks the items are on the iPad, but they are not.
Previously, the sync would be stuck on "waiting" for anywhere from 30 minutes to 4 hours.  Occasionally, it then has copied the items.  But more and more, it doesn't copy them.
Most likely related to this, the "other" category of data stored on the iPads is usually suspiciously high.
Occasionally, one of the following methods will temporarily solve the problem:
    Rebooting the iPad.
    Rebooting iTunes.
Rebooting both the iPad and iTunes.
Rebooting the iPad, iTunes, and the MacBook.
Selecting "Restore iPad ..." on the iTunes menu.
Selecting "Restore from backup" on the iTunes menu.
Combining option 5 or 6 with rebooting iTunes and/or the MacBook.
But usually, none of these methods will do anything but waste an inordinate amount of time.  Updating (when an option) to the latest version of iOS 7.x hasn't made a difference.
As you can see, I've tried several options.  I've scanned a large number of the related threads here and elsewhere, but to no avail.
    Any ideas?
    thanks in advance ...

    Hi maasailand giraffe,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
First of all, thanks for the detailed notes of the troubleshooting steps you've already tried.  It's hard to pinpoint exactly what is going on in your specific case, but I do have a few more ideas for you to try.
Starting with just one of your iPads, when you get stuck on the "waiting for items to copy" step, just disconnect your iPhone.  There are probably some orphaned or corrupt files that need to be addressed.  I would suggest closing all of your open apps and then backing your iPad up to iCloud.  Then review the articles below to move or delete any big files on your device.  These can include Voice Memos (iPhone), music, photos on your camera roll, photos or videos that are attached to your Messages, email attachments, etc.

Give this a try on one of your iPads, and hopefully these steps will work for your other devices as well.

  • "waiting for modem to become available"

I am utilizing Airport Express to fax from Brother MFC-490CW and MacBook Pro and receiving error message "waiting for modem to become available".  Many tasks state completed but then upon looking into it, they haven't sent for the same reason.  I have tried everything and spent countless hours.  PLEASE HELP!!!

Better take good care of mine cause these are historic devices....

  • ITunes stuck on "Waiting for changes to be applied"

Here are the symptoms I'm seeing:
    - If I restore my phone, or delete/reinstall iTunes, or uncheck "Sync Music", wait for a sync to complete, recheck "Sync Music", ONE sync attempt will complete. I try adding one additional song and re-syncing the device, it gets stuck.
    - If a sync doesn't complete, it gets stuck on "Waiting for items to copy" or "Waiting for changes to be applied". Via fs_usage, it seems like nothing is happening during this phase. I've left it for two hours and it doesn't move on from this phase unless you manually cancel the sync.
    - It's manifested itself on two different phones - an iPhone 4S and a iPhone 6.
    - Each phone has enough space for the items I'm syncing
    - Sometimes iTunes or gets confused and moves the entire music library on my phone into "Other". Recently I had 42GB of "Other" on a 55GB device. See attached screenshot: http://monosnap.com/file/AaDzqWpgtNXtfTYdy8iscfTKrkZGWC
    - The problem has persisted across multiple versions of iTunes (at least versions 11 and 12)
Here are the things I've tried to solve the problem:
    - Restore the device - as mentioned, works one time, further syncs fail
    - Turn my laptop off and on
    - Turn my phone off and on
    - Replace "iTunes Library.xml" by moving it to the Desktop and rebuilding the file (really fun as I lost all playlists, import date info and most played information by doing this)
    - uncheck Sync Music and recheck it - as mentioned above, this works one time, this method is also error prone (takes 3 or 4 canceled syncs before it decides to actually transfer the songs)
    - signed out of Apple Store
    - repair disk permissions
    - repair disk
    - trace iTunes process with fs_usage, will try dtruss next
    - remove the SyncServices/Local directory - didn't do anything
    - remove iTunes and every trace of it I could find (com.apple.itunes and related plist files) and reinstall from the Internet - I got one good sync after this and then it got stuck again.
I would appreciate your help as I'm at wit's end here. If there are any debugging logs or further information I can post, please tell me - I'm a software engineer by trade and have a fairly good idea of how to operate a machine (though not really how to debug a closed-source binary, maybe I should learn how).
    Thanks,
    Kevin

This problem started last year when ios 8 was released. I think apple is trying to force users to buy music on iTunes store and that's why it's impossible to sync other music and also that's the reason why they haven't solved this serious problem. That's really disappoints me and i'm angry with apple because i have like 10 gb of music in mp3 and i can't sync music from iTunes to my iPhone.

  • Waiting for printer to become available

I'm on OS X 10.8.5, and have a USB printer: HP p4015dn.   It used to work fine to print.  All of a sudden, it shows "Waiting for printer to become available", forever, and will not print. I can successfully print to networked HP printers, but even though I've rebooted the machine, rebooted the printer several times, this one just won't print anymore. I tried creating a new queue to this printer and it pauses when it tries to connect as though it can't communicate with the printer. I've tried putting the USB cable into a different port. No good. Also, no idea if this is a coincidence or not, my Fax modem stopped working - won't send out faxes anymore.  What do I do to debug this?

Yep, did all that (including resetting the printing system). I can still add new Networked printers and print to them fine, but can't print to this one USB printer (but other computers can, if I move the USB cable). I went to the printer console log and I see

  • "Waiting for printer to become available" message

Each time I try to print to my Laserjet 1300, I see a message in the print queue stating, "Waiting for printer to become available."  It never processes.  I delete the job, try again but the same result.  Result is same for short plain text, PDF or .jpg files.  However, I can print a test page directly from the Laserjet 1300 printer.  Have rebooted computer and restarted printer with no effect.  Am able to successfully print to my backup HP Deskjet F4180.  Am using a MacBook Pro OS 10.6.6.  All software updates have been made.  Thoughts?

If you are using Snow Leopard and have HP software for pre-Snow Leopard (either from a CD not marked as compatible with 10.6 or you recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and had the HP software on your Mac before you upgraded - even if you did a standard uninstall of the old software or installed new software over the top of it) you must uninstall the software using the 'scrubber' option:
Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
    Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Hold the Ctrl, Opt and Cmd keys and click on Uninstall <<<< Scrubber Option
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish
    Restart your Mac
    Now, run a Software Update.
    Finally, reset the printing system:
    - Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
    - Right (control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
    - Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

Laserjet 2550L being used with Mac OSX Lion 10.7.3. After turning on, it will print once. When trying to print a second time I get a message "waiting for printer to become available." I have to turn it off and then back on to get it to print again.

Hum. Let's uninstall with the 'scrubber option' like this:
    1. Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller and click Continue
    2. Highlight your device on the left pane
    3. Hold the Ctrl, Opt and Cmd keys and click on Uninstall
    4. There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
    5. Click Continue and let it finish
Now, run a Software Update. This can be done by clicking the Apple in the top left of the screen then clicking Software Updates.
Next, let's reset the printing system:
Go to System Preferences > Print & Scan
    - Right (or control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
    - Select the plus sign to re-add a printer. Select the Default tab on the top of the window. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.
Let me know how this works for you.
