I Installed windows 7 and when I got to the start up screen where I'm supposed to make my username, my keyboard and mouse don'y work. I've tried going into safe mode and it doesn't work i just get and error and I don't know how to switch back to os x. Please help

Hi Eryland,
If you are having issues logging in to your Windows install under Boot Camp, you may want to see if you can select the startup volume to boot into OS X. You may find the following article helpful:

Have installed Windows 7 with Boot Camp on a 20" 2006 iMac running X 6.8. Now cannot get back to original OS. Tried Snow Leopard in drive and holding c and various other keys  at start up but still Windows. Any ideas?

    Boot Using OPTION key:
      1. Restart the computer.
      2. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the
          "OPTION" key.
      3. Release the key when the boot manager appears.
      4. Select the disk icon for OS X.
      5. Click on the arrow button below the icon.

  • Black screen with white texts before Windows start in Boot Camp

I just bought my Macbook 13" and installed Windows Vista in Boot Camp. Everything went fine, Windows run seamlessly with the native speed that's said. My only problem is when I start Windows, it goes through a black screen first with a lot of white texts. One is the message "Unrecognized partition table drive 80. Please rebuild using Microsoft Fdisk Tool." Among others, this message repeats a number of times before Windows start. I don't have any problem after that, except that it delay the start up. I have tried to change a lot of settings that is associated with start up, so far nothing work. Can somebody out there help.

Highlight the phrase and add "Mac" to it, and do a look-up in Google.
"Unrecognized partition table drive 80. Please rebuild using Microsoft Fdisk Tool."
That error is listed on other threads and Microsoft, just easier to find and link thru Google than Apple forum search.
Hopefully that will help. But I would boot from Vista DVD and go through the automatic system repair too.

  • Installing windows xp on boot camp and parallels??

    Hi all,
I am using a Macbook with a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB of memory on Mac OS X 10.5.8. I currently have Parallels 5 installed running Windows XP. I need to run Windows off of Boot camp according to the support from the program I am trying to run "Chief Architect X3" as I need to utilize the video card "natively" I believe the word was. Parallels is unable to recognize and use the card properly for this program. So my question is two fold does anyone know if there is a patch that allows Parallels do this? Or can I install Boot Camp on my machine as well with Windows XP so that I can utilize the video card for this program. Do I need to uninstall my Parallels virtual machine? Also programs that are installed via Windows, if I install Boot Camp/Windows and delete my virtual machine/Windows do I need to reinstall those programs? Any and all information is GREATLY appreciated!
    Thanks in advance,
    Laura

Upgrade to Parallels 6, new build just out. And ask on their forum.
You have to install XP natively first and then enable under a VM to activate properly.
Everything will need to be installed. there are few ways to get a VM to a "native" hard drive partition. And Windows activation is another issue.

  • Loading Windows XP on Boot Camp and Parallels

    Hi,
I am trying to load windows XP on to a new 27 inch iMac I just purchased. Upon visiting an apple store the other day, I spoke to someone who told me I could put Windows XP on the iMac using Boot Camp and also use Parallels so that I could run Windows XP at the same time as OS X.
My objective is to be able to run windows XP at the same time as OS X (Parallels does this very well) and also have the option to just run Windows XP if I need the full power of the computer for some memory intensive PC applications.
So I was told that if I first loaded Windows XP on to the computer using Boot Camp I could then load Parallels on to it and access windows from OS X (the way you can with parallels.
Is there anyone who understands what I'm saying/ done this before/ have any insight at all?
    Cheers,
    Ed

  • A Question about Windows games with boot camp and system requirements

I don't plan to play many games on my Mac, but after seeing what can be done with it, I've been entertaining the idea of picking up a Windows game or 2 to play in Boot Camp (considering picking up a XP PRO with SP2 for this).
My question is about the listed systed system requirements and how they might apply to my Mac Pro. I have a dual 2.26.
As a specific example, I was looking at the game Fallout 3. The box lists a 2.4ghz processor required but I've read on this forum about people running it great with less on their Mac.
So I was wondering what I would need to consider when looking at those requirements or if games in that range do indeed run well...

    Thanks Kap, you're always helpful.
That's exactly what I was wondering. How the requirement on the box applied to having an 8 core at a lower clock speed.
I was looking at XP home at amazon and newegg, but haven't been able to tell if they are 64 or 32 (unless that means just install that version from the disc).
It's nothing pressing, just something I was entertaining for now.

  • Mac Mini (early 2012) stuck in Windows 7 after Boot Camp install. Help please!

So today I installed Windows 7 using an .iso file on my Mac Mini and the Bootcamp assistant. It was successful as it installed Windows 7, but when it booted W7, there was no wifi. I know I need to apply the drivers, I didn't see the option using Bootcamp assistant the first time, but I saw that you can go back to OS X and relaunch Bootcamp assistant.  So I tried to go back to OSX, but no matter what I tried (holding Option, holding X, trying to reset PRAM), nothing worked. I even tried using an Ethernet cable to connect to the Internet on Windows and download the driver package, but that didn't even work.
Does anyone have any guidance before I take it to see someone?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Try pressing Option key while your Mac is starting. When your Mac shows the bootable partitions, does the OS X partition appear? If not, maybe you removed it by mistake during Windows partitioning

  • Time Machine stuck at "Looking for backup disk" after installing Windows 8 via Boot Camp

I've been backing up via Time Machine to an external USB drive and it's been working fine. I recenty installed Windows 8 via Boot Camp and now TM gets stuck forever at "Looking for backup disk...".
I've tried the following, to no avail:
Using "Select Disk" in TM preferences to re-select the disk
    Deleting /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist
    Running system maintenance via Onyx
    Resetting PRAM
Formatting the drive and setting it up for TM backups again
The Boot Camp partition is on the same drive as OS X (on a 180GB Intel 330 series SSD). During the Windows installation I re-formatted the partition as NTFS.
If I start OS X in Safe Boot mode, TM backups work. In Safe Boot mode, the NTFS partition isn't loaded so I suspect it has something to do with this. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I installed Paragon NTFS for Mac and it started working all of a sudden.

  • Lose airport connection after using boot camp and windows XP

After using windows XP on boot camp and shutting down windows and booting to Mac OS 10.5.7 I lose the airport connection and have to restart or reset my airport extreme base station. My imac 2.8 is connected to airport via ethernet. Air port is operating on 5.7 version. This is a recent development and suspect it is related to updates in windows. I do not know where to start but need to solve this problem as it interrupts the other computers on wireless. Thanks Carl

I have solved problem. It was in the windows settings using airport rather than ethernet connection. Carl

  • How many licenses for Windows 7 via both Boot Camp and either VMware Fusion or Parallels on the same MacBook?

This concerns a white MacBook running OS X 10.5.8 Leopard.
If I install Windows 7 on my MacBook with Boot Camp, and then use either VMware Fusion or Parallels to access that Boot Camp partition, will I need to buy two Windows licenses from Microsoft?
I had not anticipated this, but when calling VMware and Parallels to check out the tech support services of the two companies, the person at VMware mentioned that I would need two licenses.  When I called Parallels, I then asked the person at that company whether two Windows licenses would be needed.  That person told me that only one license would be necessary.
I then called Microsoft.  The representative there told me that my question could not be answered by Microsoft because that company does not provide support for users installing Windows on Apple computers.
After that, I called Apple.  The Apple representative was not familiar with this type of issue.  She mentioned the possibility that the VMware Fusion and Parallels products might be different, and that that might be why using the former would involve two licenses and using the latter would involve only one license.
Has anyone had experience with installing Windows 7 via Boot Camp, and then accessing that Windows 7 installation from VMware Fusion or Parallels?  If so, did you have to buy two Windows licenses?

One license. You may have to re-register Windows online when you start it up in Parallels because Windows sees that it is now running on new hardware (virtualized) and thinks it has been installed on a new computer. If the online re-registration does not work, just call the registration number and go through the automated registration process. Once re-registered then use Windows from Parallels. If you are also installing MS Office in Windows you will need to go through the same process again for registering Office.
The process is automated, simple, and free. You have made the process more complicated than it is by calling Apple, Parallels, and Microsoft when there is an automated MS registration number to call.

  • Help Put An End to Windows Activation Issue in Boot Camp and Fusion

Several people have indicated you should set it up Fusion first before you activate Windows. Does that mean you activate in Fusion before Boot Camp? What is also not clear is the reason for this and whether this bypasses the issue of having to activate Windows twice - once in native mode (Boot Camp) and once in VM (Fusion), if you intend on using Windows in both Boot Camp and Fusion.
I'm hoping to finally put an end to this ongoing question and issue since I've yet to find a definitive answer on several boards. The only answer I was able to find was that you have to activate Windows in both native and VM but this obviously conflicts with what a few people have posted, unless of course I have misinterpreted what they've stated.

Thnx. My MBP has a built-in optical drive, so that explains the first screen without the option to create the installation disk.
So the problem remains to get Boot Camp recognize the installation disk. I tried to create an 8 GB (and after that even a 16 GB) installation disk on a USB stick and add the Boot Camp files to this stick. Next screen, Boot Camp still asks to insert the Windows Installation Disk. After that I burned the iso on a new DVD to be able to insert an original disk in the optical drive, but even this did not work out.
Today I called Microsoft to tell me whether I was taking the right steps, but this guy couldn't help me either. "I should not install windows in a partition, but I should use parallels to install it under iOS..." ?
The iso I have is an original disk image of Windows 8.1 Pro NL, meant to make a clean install. So what am I doing wrong?

  • I can't find ios partition after installation of Windows 7 via boot camp. can someone help please?

I installed Windows 7 via boot camp and now I can't find my Mac partition. My commuter boots up to a blank gray screen and after several minutes the Windows partition starts. I don't know what to do. Can someone help me?

In Windows, go to Control Panel -> System. Do you see a Boot Camp option? If you do not, please download BC drivers as appropriate for you specific Mac year/model System requirements to install Windows on your Mac via Boot Camp - Apple Support

  • Can I reinstall Windows 7 on Boot Camp with the same product key?

I have run into some issues with my Windows partition, so I want to reinstall Windows 7. I have a genuine copy of Windows 7 Ultimate Edition.
What I wish to do is to completely remove the Boot Camp partition, and then create a new one and install Windows 7 over it. However, I have only 1 product license key. When I reinstall Windows 7, it's going to ask for the product key, whih is obviously going to be denied because I have used it.
Is there any way I can acquire another key for this purpose? I am willing to pay a small fee, but I am definitely not willing to pay the full amount for a new Windows 7 copy.
Furthermore, and a little off-topic: Does anyone know if there are any compatability issues with the Windows 8 dev edition and Boot Camp? Can I use the support software for Windows 7? Will it be able to take advantage of the hardware? Will I get sound and internet? Will I be able to scroll with my trackpad?
    Thanks.
[EDIT] I forgot to mention that the main reason I have to create a new partition instead of just Custom Installing over the previous one, is because I require a larger partition size.

    Thanks for your help!
Not to be a pain, but I just want to clarify some things.
    The hatter wrote:
The retail version can be reinstalled as much as you want, even to a new computer (just not two at same time)
Yes it will activate just fine on reinstall. Not an issue.
Let's assume I do not have issues about reallocating disk space, and just want to re-do my whole partition. Here's what I would do. Please tell me if it would work fine, or if I would hit a snag somewhere:
Have original retail W7 disk at hand (the one I previously used for my first install).
Remove existing partition using Boot Camp Assistant.
    Re-install using the said disk.
W7 should activate without a problem, even though I've used the license before.
Do I have to do anything on Windows before re-installing it to "deactivate" the copy (or something along those lines) before I can re-activate successfully on my new install?
    And what is System Builder?
    Thanks for all your help!

  • About Boot Camp and Parallels

Can I use the Windows Xp that I installed by Boot Camp for Parallels?
In the other hand, Do I need a Windows installation for Boot Camp and other for Parallels?
    Thanks in advance.

But note that you will need to reactivate Windows when you run it under Parallels for the first time. For this reactivation you will probably need to call Microsoft.
