Stuck Pixel!! Need Suggestions

I've purchased my iMac (white) about a month ago and it has been PERFECT until yesterday. I was photoshopping with some red and then i discovered 2 stuck pixels about 3 inches away from the center of the screen. I tried to live with it for a couple days but they stick out like a sore thumb. It doesnt display any shades of red or white (turns bright green). I've done some research about LCD and its common for a screen to have dead/stuck pixels especially for a 24 incher. I've tried all the tricks i could find on the web and no luck. Should I give Apple tech support a call? or bring it to an apple store for an evaluation? I use this machine for a lot of photoshop and video editing. Will they still have the old white iMac screen replacement in stock? Should I take the chance of going through another LCD? Thanks in advance.
Nathan C.

I have the same problem--I purchased my white 20" iMac in August and just the other day I noticed a stuck sub-pixel fixed on red. It could have been there since I bought it, but I just never noticed. I've tried massaging it. I've tried Pixel Fix. Since it's only 1 sub-pixel, I'm not bringing it in. I understand that nothing is perfect. From what I understand, Apple considers stuck or dead pixels to be normal, up to a point. But like you, I do wonder--if I ever have to have my screen replaced, will Apple replace it with the same model screen, or will it put on of the cheap inferior aluminum iMac LCD panels in it? I certainly hope Apple has stockpiled spare parts for the white iMacs.

  • Need help fixing a stuck pixel in Premiere Pro CS6

Editing on a MacPro, OSx.6, Premiere CS6, I have found a stuck pixel (red) on some of my footage. Tried removing with cc wire removal in AE, but that did not seem to want to work. Everytime we applied the wire filter to our comp, it turn the whole comp black. Does anyone know of another work around to fix a stuck pixel or another plug in to use?

I've got the same issue - when CC Wire Removal is applied the entire screen goes black.  I tried it on two different systems running at significantly different specs - same result.  There is another blog on here someplace with many people reporting the same issue.  I'm curious as to why there isnt a fix for this already?  I've got a video to deliver by tomorrow for an international construction giant and I can't remove a freaking dead pixel!  I can't use the clone stamp as the pixel is right in the left corner of the mouth, so it's (depending on the frame) either just outside the mouth, in the mouth, on the tongue or on the tooth.  Very frustrating (also admit that my limited AE ability restricts me to applying the CC wire removal fix).
I'm hoping I can render the footage in a different codec and maybe CC wire removal will cooperate...

  • Need To Correct Stuck Pixel

My digital camera has a stuck pixel, in a central, obvious location. Is the "Spot & Patch" function my best bet for making this black pixel take-on the color of the surrounding pixels?

No.  Do you have Aperture 3?  In Ap3 the "Repair and Clone" tool replaced the "Spot and Patch" tool (which was retained for backwards compatibility.
Repairing with "Automatically chose source" checked works very well.

  • Need Suggestion: buy ThinkPad Edge E540 or wait for Edge E550?

    Hello Everyone,
I need suggestion what to do: buy ThinkPad Edge E54020C6003AGE (i7 4702MQ & GF 740M 2GB) or wait for Edge E550?
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Lenovo-ThinkPad-Edge-E540-20C6003AGE-Notebook.114194.0.html in Germany is price about 830 Euros
I use ThinkPads in last 10 years for study and gaming (R60, SL510, Edge 520) and wish sell my Edge E520 replace it with new one due stuck with old Radeon 6630M drivers (I cannot use a new AMD drivers when I try I getting mostly BOSD errors and latest Official Lenovo driver is from 2012) second reason is that E520 fan cannot be accessed & cleaned on easy way.
In which month Lenovo mostly release new Edges, What is your option are Broadwell CPU + GeForce 840/940M in Edges worth to wait?
In future I try to avoid AMD GPU due poor drivers support.
I know that there is much better notebooks for gaming but I like ThinkPads

To support it the model you're buying should be equiped with the :
    Intel® Dual Band Wireless-N 7260
    Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260
Wireless network adapters and core i5/i7 cpu's . But careful, not all E540s come with the intel wireless card
Just check this and you're good to go.

I'm trying to re-install itunes 10.7 on my PC. I'm getting an error code saying I need a 64 bitn not a 32 bit.  I'm stuck.  Need some help

    Hi Jon,
The "correct" name for an iTunes Library file is iTunes Library.itl. Nearly all updates to iTunes involve some upgrade the library file. The pre-upgrade file is moved into the Previous iTunes Libraries folder, stamped with the date of the upgrade, and then used to construct a new library incorporating any changes that have been made to the data structure for the new build. Should this upgrade go wrong you can usually copy the archived file back into the main iTunes folder, give it the correct name, start iTunes and iTunes will do the upgrade over again. Like this...
Sometimes when iTunes isn't shut down properly the active library file gets corrupted. If you start iTunes in this state you may be prompted to locate a valid library file. It looks like you have connected to a much older library file at some point. What is less clear is if this is a recent event or an older one.
I suggest you search the entire computer for all files of the form *.itl. Ideally we need to find the most recently modified one that isn't corrupt, place it in the main iTunes folder, rename it as iTunes Library.itl and connect to it. Having placed a suitable library file in the correct location and renamed it, click the icon to start iTunes and then immediately press and hold down the left shift key. Keep holding until asked to create or choose a library. Click choose and browse to the renamed/relocated library file. If that file won't work close iTunes, and try another in the fashion shown in the diagram until you find one that is satisfactory. No need to use the shift-start-iTunes trick again as this time each new file will be on the same path.
Once you've found the best of the available libraries you can use a tool called iTunes Folder Watch to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created, i.e., add in the new files, or delete the entries for tracks that have been removed from the media folder.
If for some reason the restored library contains broken links to the media I have a script called FindTracks that can repair them.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • T510 Random Stuck Pixels?

I received my T510 FHD Thinkpad about a month ago and over the last few days it started to display random stuck pixels (always on - white).  I say random because they eventually go away when I open and close windows or reboot the computer.  Mysteriously reappearing later at random (not in the same spots if I recall correctly)???
After doing some internet research, I ran JScreenFix (http://www.jscreenfix.com/) for about an hour on full screen.  The problem persists.
My son suggested this could be a driver issue (supported by the fact that the pixel becomes "unstuck" when shutting down Windows XP and doesn't appear until Windows finishes booting up).  I am using the most recent Nvidia drivers so I'm hoping this is not isolated.
Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciate.
    Thanks,
    Stephen

    Update
This is apparently an issue exclusive to Windows XP.  I used a separate HD and installed Windows 7 - no temporarily stuck pixels.
Have to assume this is a driver issue.  Hopefully, Lenovo/Nvidia will release a fix soon.
Any other ideas/fixes would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • I'm a student, non-earning, how can I get rid of this stuck pixel?

I recently saved up for a Macbook Pro 13" (2010) for my graphic design college course and I cared for it as soon as it came. It suddently got a red Stuck pixel near the centre on the right. I'm really upset because I have only had it for about 3 weeks. I was going to use it to design and create on, but this red pixel keeps distracting me.
I have tried JScreenfix a few times, left it on for about an hour, still was there. I feel bad leaving the screen on for so long anyway, considered leaving it on all night, but don't want to if it won't work. I have also touched it a few times, but that feels bad.
Any suggestions? I've booked an appointment with the Apple Store near me..

Hi you have an excellent computer - leaving it on all night will not harm it. If you follow the instructions in the link below the battery should give you years of service:

  • Stuck Pixels + Dust

I have had my iPod for 4 months now and have had 2 stuck pixels since i got it, they have only just started annoing me as i have now started watching movies.
Added to this i have quite a large amount of dust behind the screen mainly in the top left corner, there are also one or two coloured particles whitch i am unable to identify, they are the size of 4 pixels and still appear wjen the screen is off, clearly the seal is broken or somthing along those lines as i have allways kept my iPod in an Apple iPod sock from the day I got it. I feel rather dissapointed by theese factors as the Multi-Touch display is the main feature of the iPod touch. I would like advice on where to go next... Should i visit an Apple Retail store os Send it in Online? I would also like to know if a refund is a possibility because as old phone has now ceased to function, i would like to get the iPhone... Would this be possible and how could i do this.
    Thanks for Your Help Phil.

    Phil,
There isn't much you can do about returning it or trading it. Apple gives you the 30 day grace period after purchase to return for a full refund and clearly 4 months is beyond this period. My suggestion would be to take it in, have it replaced (as it is still under warranty), then try and resell it on CraigsList or eBay.

  • Qosmio G25: Vertical lines of stuck pixels

I have a huge problem with my Toshiba Qosmio G25:
My LCD screen has 2 lines of stuck pixels, one pixel wide, running from top to bottom. Before continuing I would like to stress that my computer has not had any physical trauma of any kind and generally is used like a desktop.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is there any quick fix which I can handle on my own or is the only solution sending in the laptop for service? How are problems like this handled, will toshiba replace the screen or will they completely replace the computer? I would much rather prefer fixing this on my own with your suggestions as opposed to a lengthy wait on service.
All my schoolwork depends on my computer and I would be powerless without it for several weeks. Please if anyone has encountered this issue and resolved it, I would appreciate it if they could share their experience and knowledge.
    Thanks for your time.

    Hello Makaroni
It is not easy to say if this occurs because of LCD malfunction or even because of defective graphic card. You can check how it works with external monitor to see if the problem persists.
Anyway I dont believe you can do anything on your own especially if the graphic card or LCD display is defective. The hardware must be replaced. I know that it is very annoying but I recommend you to contact service in your country. Save all your data to USB memory stick and try to finish your work on some friends PC.

  • Stuck pixels? Not sure...

I've been reading a lot of posts this morning about stuck pixels, and I thought maybe that's what I have, but mine seem to be a little off from what others are experiencing. I woke up my iMac (bought in May 2006 from the online Apple store, so warranty is definitely over), and noticed a straight, vertical line of light blue going right down the entire center of the screen. I thought maybe it was just on the Safari page I had open, but it was on the desktop as well. I restarted, thinking something had fritzed, but it's still there now.
On some of the other discussions there were links to pixel programs to try and fix the problem yourself. I did the Pixel Fix widget, and it had no effect on the line. I also used Pixel Check, and when I tried all the different colors, the line was there for Blue, Green, Red and Black, but NOT White. I'm not entirely sure what that means, though.
So far massaging the line hasn't done anything, and I'm scared to press too hard and mess something else up. Does anyone have any ideas of something else I could try? If I have to live with it, I will, but it's pretty horrible being down the center of the screen. I can't imagine trying to watch a movie on here ever again with it like that.
    Thank you for any suggestions!!

It probably happened just as you turned it on that time. It wasn't random, just at the point when something failed. There's no telling whether the screen will get any worse or when, but I don't believe there's anything you can do to prevent it. If you can live with it, or have no choice, then carry on. Hopefully it wont bother you too much.

  • MacBook Pro retina dead/stuck pixel

Hi this morning I turnd on my mac. And when watching a video, that had a dark background I noticed a white dot on the screen. I tried to clean it but it did not move. I did a bit of research and have come to think this is a dead or stuck Pixel. It shows on dark backgrounds,  and shows up as a little dark dot on white background. If you look at it for a magnifying glass you can see the colours within the pixels. Is it stuck? I've seen some videos online that apparently fix dead pixels. and programs that is JFixit. Do these work? My one year warranty has just run out so if I have to go to apple, I will have to get AppleCare. how much is this cost for my mbpr if I have o get it.
Any helped be appreciated. This appears to be a common problem on MacBook Pro Ratners. So some more publicity about it would be good. Any help would be appreciated thank you very much.

Hey.. I had the same problem with my Macbook pro Retina 15.  On discovering the same spot on my screen, i rushed to the apple store from where i bought this macbook. They seeing my problem immediately took my macbook for LCD replacement and asked me come after 15 working days> But after 2-3 days they gave me a call that this cannot be replaced since they are not getting permission and the required part from the apple. So i called on the apple customer care and registered  my complained. Firstly they even said that this is the first time they are ecountering such problem n asked me to keep my mac with me n observe whether this SPOT increases in future or not, and only if it did, they will replace it. I strongly opposed this coz i have spent 150K for my machine and therefore i will except no less than a new machine.
After hours of discussions with the head of the techinical team and the US team, and after 7 days approx, they decided to give my machine green signal for LCD replacement, and also asked the service centre to get it done ASAP and also supplied the req. part.
n today, my machine is working perfectly fine and has no probs with the display.
I would suggest you to take same and immediate action abt this and donnot except anything less that a perfectly working machine.
    All the Best !! (y)

  • Possible stuck pixel?

    Hey guys,
I went yesterday to the Apple Retail store and picked up a brand new MacBook. I used it for a couple of hours without a problem and then I decided to watch some Anime on it. Only then did I realize that about a few inches to the right of dead center is a red little pixel. I first though it was a dead pixel but it couldn't of been because its red. So now I'm thinking its a stuck pixel...
To test it, I opened up a completely black window to check if it was a stuck pixel but I didn't see it. It should glow in its red little evil against a black background, right? It only seems to appear on a light colored background such as white or light blue.
What should I do? Attempt a Pixel Massage or take it to the Apple store and see if they can do anything? Any suggestions?
    Cheers,
    -robodude666

    Thanks for the quick replies!
I was told in the store when I got it that there is a 15 day return period with a 10% restocking fee. Does this apply to exchanges to?
I read that pixel massages don't help most of the time but sometimes they do. If done incorrectly they can cause more stuck or even dead pixels. I don't want to risk it if it will decrease my changes of exchanging for a new macbook or screen replacement.
    EDIT:
I just ran PiXel Check 1.2 and the results are weird. On Red the little pixel can't be seen (its a red stuck pixel). However, on Green and Blue it appears as black. On Black it appears as black, and on White it appears red. Does this sound more like a dead pixel, or a stuck pixel?

  • Another stuck pixel

    Hello!
I have a MacBook Pro 15" 2.4 GHz that I got back in January. So far it's been pretty much faultless but I've got a stuck pixel that just developed yesterday. It's red, so I don't think it's dead. I'm trying the jscreenfix applet right now. Any other suggestions?
    Many thanks in advance.

OK, the applet did nothing. Under inspection with a magnifying glass, it appears that one subpixel is indeed dead for all colors but red. It functions under red, but is dark when under any other color.

  • Hot or Stuck pixels - seeking opinion

I have noticed that the current version of ACR seems to deliberately hide "hot" or "stuck" pixels, so well in fact that I was not aware I had any in my new 5D until I did some zooming in Photo Mech and some louping in Aperture. If all apps hid the hot ones as well as ACR, we wouldn't need to discuss this, but since ACR seems to be the ONLY app I use which automatically hides the hot pixels, they are an issue in all the rest.
What I'm curious to know is how others are dealing with this. Are you exchanging the camera for a new one? getting a repair? Getting Canon (or some other company) to "map out" the hot pixels for you? (In some other forums, users can't even seem to agree if Canon actually uses mapping or if they just replace the sensor.) Or do you just ignore it totally?
Does anyone know what official and realistic expectations are for pixel perfection (or lack thereof) in modern DSLRs?
Incidentally, I exhanged my first 5D (which had 3 pixels I could consistently find across a wide ISO range) and got a new one that has over 10 stuck pixels throughout the ISO range.
    G5 dual 2.0

Just to follow up for the rest of you Canon 5D owners...
Because my local retailer allowed it, I have exchanged my way into my 3rd 5D, and the 3rd time was the charm in this case. Just to give you the wide quality variations I saw in this camera:
Camera 1: About 7 notable hot pixels, of which one was really a clump of about 7 to 9 red all together, resulting in a "super dot" that was visible even in some relatively light, mid-range colors in apps other than ACR.
Camera 2: About 12 notable hot pixels, yet none was a major clump, so it was actually a better pattern.
Camera 3: Only 1 notable hot pixel, and it's green, and away from the image center, which is so convenient I will not bother having it mapped out.
And I do all my checking with the body cap on at ISO 200 and then ISO 1600, with exposures of 1/250, 1/10, and 1/2 second each.
The 1600 exposures show more noise than useful "grading" info. I consider anything visible at ISO 200 to be actually stuck. The 1600 exposures are so noisy in fact that they really just serve to accentuate the subtle blue ones so you can spot them in the 200 images.
Let's here it for Quality Control of the 5D... My 1DII's exhibit no such level of nonsense.
As others have reported in various forums, when I called the Canon support reps, they tried to act like this issue was unusual and not the normal expectation. They tried to talk like they expect the "normal" example of a 5D to be like my 3rd charming one. Some things make me go hmmmm......

  • Stucked pixels

I just noticed my iphone has a tiny dead pixels color pale. Do i need to bring this immidiately to repair service provider? Or the dead pixel will just fade away by itself?

By the end of the day I had  another 2 dead/stucked pixels, however by this morning they were gone... I didnt hesitate any longer and went back to get myself a refund. Dont really know how could I trust a piece of hardware that starts giving my problems so SOON.
I gonna give it another, as I am getting a new Yoga on Tuesday. Hopefully this one will be better and who knows, no so **bleep** NOISY .
