Stuck profile - over 5 days

Hi,
A couple of weeks ago I moved my home office setup around and unwittingly plonked my router next to a Powerline network adapter on the same 4 gang extension. It would seem this sent my connection into an error spin and I only noticed it had dumped my IP profile from its usual 8Mb down to 2Mb.
I initially waited a few days to see if the profile would reset but figured I'd best remove the Powerline setup and put my router back to where it had been perfectly stable for the last three years. Hence a router restart over 5 days ago.
IP profile hasn't budged. I've done the requisite master socket shenanigans and as you can see from my router stats I have a perfectly healthy connection (Oh if I could only get ADSL2 out here in the sticks!)
Download speedachieved during the test was - 2.23 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.4 Mbps-2 Mbps.

  • Yet another stuck profile?

I think I too have a stuck profile. When I first connected using this modem/router (8 months or so) I was getting between 12 and 15 Mbps. about three months ago it dropped (gradually) down to its present speed. I recently renewed my contract and was told I should be getting around 14Mbps.
I have run all the line tests and they too indicate I should be receiving about 14Mbps. I have tried connecting direct to the socket and done the noise tests and everything else suggested on the forum.
I have included the speed test results plus the stats from my modem. Any suggestions would be welcome.
    Thanks

  • Stuck Profile Part II

    Hi.
    Following on from https://community.bt.com/t5/ADSL-Copper-Broadband-Speed/Stuck-Profile/td-p/1433921/page/3
Here's my problem, my broadband is fast enough and stable at around 10db SNR giving me 13Mbps.
But when my connection re-syncs to a lower margin of 6db, I get terrible errors on the line which cause my broadband speed to drop to less than 5Mbps.
What if I cant find the source of the errors, or fix the issue?

I've checked all the sockets as best i can. Connection appears no better or worse, still getting plenty of the HEC errors.
On the garage extension socket I removed all terminals apart from 2&5. I also noticed that only those two terminals were connected from the garage extension wire into my main living room socket (at least I assume its the same wire, I should perhaps of disconnected it to verify - maybe I'll do that in a couple of days).
I also re-seated the connections on my living room socket as they looked a bit tatty.
Maybe its time for a professional to have a look because the exterior faceplate also needs checking I reckon.
    a) how much do Openreach charge to take a look?  Yes a minimum of 129.99
    b) would they be willing to check the internal/external extensions are wired correctly and not introducing noise?Yes possibly an extra charge
    c) can I get them to fit more modern sockets instead of the LJU5 I have?  Yes
    d) if they can fit a more modern socket is there one that can be fitted which is compatible with Infinity if and when it ever gets enabled for my line? yes they could fit the latest Infinity style faceplate

  • Stuck profile and pretty sick of liars

Ok, after a powercut on Monday (which was widespread in Co Down), my profile is back on the same, pathetic. "up to 2000kps" profile that it ALWAYS goes on if there is even a hint of thunder or a blip in the electric..
Download speedachieved during the test was - 1842 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 400-2000 Kbps.

     Your DSL Connection Rate :4224 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)

I have been on this forum innumerable times with exactly the same problem...as I am very busy and have a digger hired out, I decided to phone the "special" no that India gave me if such a stuck profile happened again (LOL)...
After spending 15mins on the phone to some advisor in India (neither of us could understand each other as I have an Irish accent) trying to explain what a stuck profile was, the advisor was able to see I have had this problem many times before (OH really...duh!!)..
He lied and said they were doing "advanced" tests on my line and they could see no problem...LIAR!!!
Then He said they had reset the profile and it will take 7 days and I will Never have this problem again...LIAR!!
I understand broad band and DLM and it is far too aggressive and is obvously not fit for purpose...I pay for up to 8meg,,,not up to 2meg...
I am really sick of the incompetent LIARS who run their "customer" service...anyone who has been around a while will know that the only way I've got this fixed in the past is to contact the CEO...This time, however, I have had enough and think I'm out of contract,,,I will be requesting my mac code and will be leaving this Internet  Provider
ASAP and will make sure to tell everyone I know about this!!!!!!

I have a long rural line as well and while I can't solve all your issues I can suggest a few things perhaps
firstly the power issue, have you looked to setting your router on a UPS? most use kettle sockets so you would need to make an adapter but Belkin do some that have normal sockets. Would not last long but does filter and smooth out issues with the power and if you just have the router on it even a fairlly small model would give you a fair while, mine certainly last way longer than I takes me to fire up the backup generator.
Fixed profiles may well be a solution for you but should the line be upgraded at any stage you may then loose out.
You might also see if BT will check that you are on the best pair possible, for example where I am there are no spare pairs but further back nearer the exchange there is a 50 pair 0.9 cable about 1km in length and onlly about 10 lines were switched to it as of yet (mine included) and that made a huge difference to my service when I got it done in 2006 after a nearer section had been downgraded during a replacement.
I am told that if you can get any section swapped from /5 to .6 then that is even better than the same length of .6 being changed to .9 but either way any up in conductor size tends to be a huge help.
BTW would strongly suggest you try using a BT business hub not the netgear, I have tried many routers including the netgear but the business hub seems to have something extra that helps my line a lot, I now tend to get a steady noise margin during the day rather than frequent fluctuations, I suspect it is impluse noise protection but may be wrong there. Worth getting one of ebay to try.

  • In iCal since update I cannot extend an event over days

After recent update, in iCal on my iMac, for a new entry I am unable to set the event duration over days. Old entries no longer show the beginning date and the end date of events which have duration over many days. What happened? On the iPhone and iPad these options are still available.

    Hi Altjudi,
What update did you install recently? What version os OS X are you running?
In Calender (new iCal) You can set the view to week so you can see multiple days. Enter an event and hover your mouse at the bottom untill it changes to two arrows devided by a line. Click and hold, move mouse across the desired time period.
If this doesn't work, answer the questions so we can help you further.

  • Been stuck for over  a year, please help me do this

so i have this laptop with 8gb ram and core i7 as well as 2 hdd (no raid).
Now i heard about premiere (cs4) and my laptop is ready to take most of the advantage but the hard drive is the bootleneck.
Basically, all i want is to do few cuts in a video that was filmed by sony hdr-sr11 camcoder in hd 1080 60i settings. Now i heard i need 3 hard drives etc, but at the moment, i only have 2.
So is there anyway i can do simple cuts in premiere without losing any quality and slowdown in fps or is there any other software that can be better? I really don't want to lose any quality or fps with the g73jh-a2 asus laptop i have?
i also have ati 5870 video card

The lowest was 19mb, but was floating arond 30mb. Still that aint good..
I can't afford the partition magic and i heard its not good to partition after installing windows. I am thinking of fresh install, but if there is a workaround, it would save me tons of time as not installing apps etc.
    For the setup
1)Can i have the programs in secondary drive? What about just a game or 2?
2)By projects, do you mean the videos that im going to edit?
    3)what is scratch?
    4) By media, do you mean videos im going to edit?
Lastly, what about a bit of data? Like <50gb.. Pictures documents etc

i did hdtune and was the os drive was 100mb-19mb in the end and the
    secondary one was 105-45~mbps
Those figures are disturbing. For any reasonably modern 7200 RPM disk these figures should be around 120 - 60 MB/s. If it goes down to below 20, something is seriously wrong. Now that may be caused by your partitioning or something else, hard to discern from here, but these results are worrisome.
Maybe Partition Magic can help you get rid of all these partitions, otherwise a complete reformat and fresh install of OS & programs is all that is left.
Setup should be something like this:
    C: OS & programs & projects
    D: Pagefile, scratch and media
It depends a bit on the nature of your projects, your workflow, but in general you set up your disks in such a way that disk accesses are spread over the available disks as much as possible.

your connection time is only 2days not 3 according to your router so still another day at least as it can take 3/5 days.  some happen soone but that does not looks like you are in that category
your noise margin is still very high but due to your proximity to the exchange it waill alwayd be higher than 6.  should drop though as you should have an 8mb connection.

For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 400-2000 Kbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :4544 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 2000 Kbps
Now the maximum I can get is 2000kps...

Please don't tell me to wait 3/5 days...when the BT Speedtester shows the maximum I can get is 2000kps I need the banding lifted...Last time I had to email Ian Livingstone (BT CEO)....I am absolutelly sick of the DLM BT uses to truncate customers band width...it's an absoulute disgrace as I pay for an "up to 8meg" product...not "up to 2meg"....
If this is not sorted I am going to ofcom, and think customers should be compenstaed when the DLM cuts their profile..If I bought a car thats top speed was 100 mph only to find it limited to 20 mph I would sue the vendor...whats the ****ing Difference?
I have already emailed the mods..btw...have the phone number for CEO's office so better get this sorted or I'm gonna kick up stink...I mean One disconnection....and I consider BT ...wish I could get ANYONE else!!!!

I know that this will not really help but I would be very suprised if BT is responsible for cutting trees that effect any line unless the trees are on BT property.
I know that I have to keep  trees near my line well away from it and that BT engineers do check (although they do accept that my line issues are never wind related).
I would suggest trying to get any branches connecting with the line removed, will not help at the moment but if the trees damage the line eventually then I think you would get charged for the repair.

  • Best Practice for Roaming Profiles over Branch Offices

    Hello Everybody,
I was hoping I could gain advice from experienced engineers on an issue me and my team are currently experiencing.
    The issue:
We have a client that has their main office in London and this company has other remote offices over the world, Paris, Milan, Luxembourg etc.. Each remote office has a local DC&file server installed as two separate servers or both roles on the same
server. Everything is central to London, all the main file shares that the company uses is based in London and the terminal server's are based in London too.
We have DFS-R & N set up on the London File servers to replicate the dfs shares over the remote offices which works fine and we don't generally ever have any issues with this and works well when user's in remote offices access file shares from
    London.
However and I didn't set this up but this client also has DFS-R & N set up for roaming profiles!!! The issue we are having here is only with the terminal servers. For example I will log in as one of the users from London on the terminal server and will
load the profile fine, I will log that user off and log in as the admin and remove the profile through advanced system settings. I will then log back on as that same user and will be given a temporary profile, I repeat the first step and the profile loads
fine, so every other log on will load the user with a temporary profile. I know this is the case because for that user, if I change the profile path in AD from
    \\xxxx.com\public to
\\lon-fs3v\profiles$\user it then loads every time with no issues. Before anyone asks I have rebuilt the terminal server(s) to rule out if they were misconfigured. You may ask why not do that for everyone? We can't do that for people based in Milan otherwise
their profile will forever take time to load and that's where the dfs replication comes into play for the profiles.
Unfortunately they are a very stubborn client so some users (important people) have very large profiles which sometimes takes a while to load up.
I have done some reading already on the web and have seen the unsupported scenario from Microsoft regarding this (
https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/2533009 )  so unsure the best way to do it. The link I've put in does say you can have issues with the profiles loading (which we do) if there are too many
connections which we have 10 to replicate profiles around the remote offices.
I have done some reading into the hostedbranch cache method but not sure if you can do this with roaming profiles or not?
We generally want to eliminate the issue for users when logging on remotely with getting a temp profile every other log on attempt. I must add though this issue never occurs on the workstations just the terminal server, our client is in the private equity
market so one user may just spend one day in a remote office and then come back to London to carry on as they normally would.
So that's the background to the issue and I was generally trying to work out what methods or if this is possible with the branch cached method for roaming profiles ?
Thank you to anyone who replies.
    Best,
    Liam

    Hi UC3ngineer,
    Agree with Luca.
If the branch users need to do lot of conferencing, the best practice is to deploy an new Front End Pool and an Edge Server in Branch Office; Otherwise you must have a 100%
reliable WAN connection to your central site.
    Best regards,
    Eric

  • Another stuck profile :-)

    Hi all,
My first post on here.  I have noticed a slowdown in my download speeds recently after moving my Home Hub. Previously it was linked to an internal extension upstairs and I was getting around 6 megabit download speeds quite consistently. I decided to move it downstairs and connect it to the master socket, and since then my speeds have been between 1.7 and 1.9 megabits.
I ran a speed test on 19th August and got these results:
Download speed achieved during the test was -1745 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 400-2000 Kbps.
    Additional Information:
    Your DSL Connection Rate :8128 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 2000 Kbps
I checked my internal extensions and there is no audible noise or crackling, but just in case I connected the home hub (via the adsl filter) to the test socket and rebooted the hub.  I expected the profile to improve from 2000 Kbps to something much closer to my connection speed, but four days later it is still stubbornly stuck at 2000 Kbps.
A speed test just now gives the following results:
Download speed achieved during the test was - 1928 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 400-2000 Kbps.
    Additional Information:
    Your DSL Connection Rate :8128 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 2000 Kbps
The stats from my home hub are as follows:
    ADSL line status
    Connection information
    Line state
    Connected
    Connection time
    4 days, 8:07:58
    Downstream
    8,128 Kbps
    Upstream
    448 Kbps
    ADSL settings
    VPI/VCI
    0/38
    Type
    PPPoA
    Modulation
    ITU-T G.992.1
    Latency type
    Fast
    Noise margin (Down/Up)
    10.8 dB / 21.0 dB
    Line attenuation (Down/Up)
    11.0 dB / 5.0 dB
    Output power (Down/Up)
    13.8 dBm / 11.9 dBm
I don't think the downstream noise margin is too high (but disappointingly above 6db) so I would expect better than a 2000 Kbps profile speed.
Any thoughts on how I can get the profile reset?  I think it is stuck at the moment.
    Many thanks,
    Mark.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

your noise margin if ok as you have the max speed for adslmax - you have noise margin in hand which is good for when you get upgraded to 21CN
your profile is stuck so email the mods for help  http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951

  • Line resets and stuck profiles (question not issue...

One of the mods in their calls to me mentioned that they are happy to do some line resets for me but want to avoid them too often since this caused the DLM to get concerned over the line status. [I have no reason to doubt this statement]
Now in my case what I sometimes could do with is getting a IP profile unstuck ie when it passed the point where it should have changed but has not and yes the BT system says that it did.
Is this the same thing as a line reset (which one would think it shoudl not really be) and if not can anyone confirm that this does not anger the DLM?
[the reason for asking is that normally my profile should go up within 24 hours at most which is bearable but recently it has stuck twice, ie BT says 1000 but speedtester and throughput showed 750].

To clarify, first the image is placed, then there is a rectangle over the image whose frame is slightly larger than the image frame, with transparent fill, and set the stroke to thick white with transparency lowered to induce the "reflection" sort of effect. Take a look at this screenshot: http://screencast.com/t/AYQDwx3g7w
    Hope this helps.

  • IP Prrofile stuck for 4 days

Not had speeds of more than 2mb for a month now. Last 4 days it has been 0.6mb. Profile seems to be stuck at 0.7.

your connection speed shown in the btspeedtester results id different from the connection speed shwon by your router suggesting that there has been a disconnection.  with the high noise margin of 16 it also suggests that there is a noise problem which probably results in resets by the hub.
even though your router has been connected everything suggests that you have not managed the 24/7 connection for 3/5 days required to get the profile to change automatically.
