Stuck with a pig as Cinderella enters the ball

NOW the Charge comes out. Two weeks too late for me to trade up to it. Verizon kept pushing it back, and I kept hoping it would come out in time for me to unload this battery addicted hog of a Thunderbolt and trade up.
Don't get me wrong, the Thunderbolt is a good device - great in some areas. But, the Charge will do everything is does, with a much nicer (and far less power hungry) screen, and will last much longer doing it.
Oh well, at least I'm only stuck in a one year contract. With the direction Verizon is heading (14 day evaluation period down from 30, no 1 year contracts, no 1 year upgrade price, tiered data coming) I'm not sure I'll be on them anymore once this contract ends. Putting out this joke of a phone, then acting like it's perfectly acceptable, is the final straw.
I wrote to Verizon about the battery life (under 4 hours if you actually use it). I wanted to try a new battery - send mine in, get a new one to try (though I'm very sure the actual battery isn't the issue other than it's anemic size) the reply was that "smartphones use a lot of juice", and maybe it's an app I'm using that's causing the drain. (Not unless it's an app that Verizon put on it and I can't uninstall , because the battery was this bad right out of the box before I put any apps on it.
At least this rep didn't try to sell me the extended battery, and inform me that the original battery has 1400 minutes of talk time, while the extended has 2750 minutes of talk time. Seriously? A smartphone rep who thinks mAH stands for minutes of talk time? I know more about these phones than the average rep, and I'm a dunce. He also stated that I should shut off 4G, turn off backround updates, go into settings and force close the Blockbuster DRM. So, turn your 4G smartphone that you paid for  into a 3G average phone - that's the answer. Eliminate functionality in trade for battery savings. Brilliant - glad I paid all that money for the phone itself!
It's shameful to sell people a product, then try to sell them an accessory to make it useable. I have to have a charger in my car and at work just to get through the day. I can literally surf the internet for 20 minutes off a full charge, and be below 80% when done. Put it down for an hour, come back and be below 70%. Pathetic.

As far as battery life, the first thing I did when getting the phone was to fully charge the battery BEFORE ever turning it on (as the manual says to do). I'm a stickler for following directions!.  I did this.
Overall, to conserve battery, I've done the following:
1. Set screen timeout to 30 secs - I'm set higher, but I kill the screen whenever I put it down.
2. Set a non-animated wallpaper - I already do this.
3. Turned off all display animations - I already do this.
4. Left screen brightness on auto - Me too.
5. Turned off GPS, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi (only turn on GPS/Wi-Fi as needed and turn off when done, don't use Bluetooth) - Tried this, made no discernable difference.
6. Disabled unneeded syncing of various applications (ex. Stocks, News, set Gmail to only sync mail) - I don't even sync Gmail
7. In browser settings, changed "Enable plugins" (ex. Flash) to "On Demand" - I haven't done this.
8. For location settings, only Google Location Services are enabled (turn on others only as needed and turn off when done) - I've tried all combinations, including no location services on.
A few final notes, I don't use any of the social networking features, so less syncing is needed, although I'm sure there are settings to tweak in those apps should one use them. I don't use any app/task killer as I believe they're counter productive as apps/processes will just continually try to restart using up battery power. And finally, my Thunderbolt is all stock (not rooted) and the 4G LTE radio is always enabled. - I don't use any social apps, on the phone or at all anywhere.
Regardless, these things you and I have disabled are selling points of the device, and they shouldn't need to be shut off to make it useable. Like I said, my Omnia II, which was much less powerfull than the T-Bolt, had a stock battery that was higher capacity, 1500MAh versus 1400 in the Thunderbolt. And it was only decent on battery life. There is no way HTC could have believed this was enough to power this beast.

How load swf file (flash 8) with adobe captivate 3 without enter the HTML?

    Hi SaSQuaCh69247,
Issue 1 :- Select the SWF file in library, right click, and
    select update.
Issue 2 :- Actually it could be valid for Issue 1 also. It
seems like SWF file you are trying to import, does some action
like, importing another swf or connecting to server on the first
frame itself. Captivate will try to play the first frame of SWF
when you import them. Try creating a keyframe with the stop action
as the first frame in your SWF, and see if you still have the
    issue.
Issue 3 :- The approach I am mentioning over here is
generally the last approach which I will take in such scenerios,
but since you have already experimented a little, so try this.
    Go to C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application
    Data\Adobe\Adobe Captivate
    Rename captivate_v20.dat as captivate_v20_org.dat.
    Restart Captivate Application.

    i did.

    Hi Rick,
I see your paid subscription associated with the same Adobe ID you were able to post on these forums with.
You may want to double-check to make sure there are no typos in either the username or password as you entered it.
Could you also let us know if you're getting an error message and how are you trying to access the service?

  • Help with "You may need to enter the name and password for an administrator

I'm trying to move files from one of my external harddrives to another external harddrive. I keep getting this message "You may need to enter the name and password for an administrator on this computer to change the item named "Documents". I also get this for other folders I want to move, but not all folders on that drive.
I am the administrator, and it only gives me an "ok" button, no option to enter my name and password again.
    Any ideas?

I have the same problem, trying to copy items from external hard disk to another computer on the network. I can copy without problems from external hard disk to my laptop. But not from external hard disk to another computer on the network, and neither from my laptop to another computer on the network, but ONLY if the files I try to copy from my laptop were first copied from that external hard drive. It keeps popping me up with this message. Please help, or fix.

Tap your home button once to go to home page.  Then double tap your home button to bring up the most recently used apps (task bar).  Hold your finger on the Facebook app until the apps jiggle.  You'll see a on the upper left corner.  Touch the on the Facebook app to close it fully.  Tap your home button once to stop the apps from jiggling and once more to go back to your home screen.  Research your Facebook login so you have the right information the next time you try.

  • Iphone 5S is stuck with a battery icon and then the apple logo

HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!  My iphone 5s is really doing something strange. when I plug it in I get a quick battery icon with four vertical red lines and then the apple logo appears for about 3 seconds and then disappears. when I plug it into ITunes it tells me that the phone is in recovery mode  and will have to be restored and when I try to restore it gives me an error and wont work. I have tried everything. please help me.

And if you check the link I posted, you'll find information on troubleshooting:
    Check your USB connections
    Related errors: 13, 14, 1600, 1601, 1602, 1603, 1604, 1611, 1643-1650, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, 4005, 4013, 4014, or “invalid response."
If the USB connection between your device and computer is interrupted, you may be unable to update or restore.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
Use the USB cable that came with your device, or a different Apple USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port directly on your computer. Don't plug it into your keyboard.
    Try a different computer.
If necessary, resolve any further issues with the USB connection, then with your security software.
If you're still seeing the error message, check for hardware issues by following the next section.

From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."

    Please help.

you're most likely going to have to restore the device in recovery mode. this will erase content only on the ipod. but gain usage again :/
    power off the ipod
    disconnect it from the plug
while holding the home button(DO NOT LET GO!!!) connect to the chord and don't let go of the  home button until you see an itunes icon.
itunes should say 'detects a device in recovery mode, you must restore' yada yada.
restore and then after your done you should be able to sync to itunes

  • MacBook stuck with shift key enabled and numbers not working - even the keyboard app in languages wont type lowercase nor numbers?!  Anyone know whats up?  no spillage...cant understand why the keyboard app wont do anything.

Anyone have a clue?  I can understand the keyboard being broke / shift key being stuck but why in the world would I not be able to type the numbers on the language keyboard app on the operating system?  Numbers show up on the app but when I press them I still get the special characters like #^&#* and it wont type lower case. Nothing has ever been spilt, just stopped working one day.  Rebooted from Time Capsule restore dated a month ago and its still doing it. (problem started two weeks ago).  Only way to get lower case or numbers to actually show up is the copy and paste.
    Any help would be amazing!
    Details on computer:  13 inch MacBook6, 1  (Late 2009) / Intel Core 2 DUO /  2.26GHZ / 2GB /  Memory running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5

If you can afford it, I would recommend replacing the topcase and keyboard as Apple suggests. If like me, you can't afford it or are open to a hack fix, then read on.
    The problem
Yesterday, a little water spilt on my 13" MBP keyboard. I turned it around immediately, drained out the water and used tissue to suck it all up but the keyboard was still acting funny. I turned it off and left it out in the sun for a couple of hours and turned it on again but problems remained. Like Rickdubya, my warranty had run out just a month ago and I knew Apple would not cover this under warranty. I tried to clean the shift keys and left it overnight with some rice on them with hopes that the moisture might get sucked out. Nothing worked. (The rice bit is an urban legend that seems to work with some electronics). Went to the Apple Store this morning and was told that they wouldn't even take out the key and clean it, and that the entire top case would have to be replaced. A total bill of 156 Euros which I cannot afford. I had a USB keyboard that would let me use the Mac for the moment so I decided to try to work out a fix.
    Symptoms
    - Boots in safe mode everytime (which I later found out was because the shift key is pressed)
    - Cannot login because password is in lower case or has numbers
    - Cannot boot in super user mode and try to disable keys or override password as some commands won't work in uppercase (I wouldn't recommend this anyway because its super user mode)
    - All text is in caps and numbers are symbols as though shift key is always pressed
    - Audio doesn't work
    - Keyboard viewer would not always show the shift key pressed. The key seemed to get pressed at random
    Fix
    1. Hold the Option button down on boot to bypass the Safe Mode ensure a normal boot
    2. At the login screen, plug in a USB keyboard and enter your password to login
    3. Change your password to one that uses all caps and no numbers
    4. Download and install KeyRemap4MacBook .
    5. Use a combination of the functionalities of the Keyboard Viewer and KeyRemap4MacBook to figure out which shift key is the problem. In my case, I found out that it was only my left shift key.
    6. Disable the left/right shift key on KeyRemap4MacBook and click on the 'Reload XML' button to make that take effect.
If only one shift key was the problem, then you are done. If both shift keys were shorted, then its likely other keys are too. In which case you should probably just replace the entire thing. If you think other keys are not affected, then you can use KeyRemap4MacBook itself to remap the shift functionality to a lesser used key like the Left Option key.
    7. Under System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items , add KeyRemap4MacBook as an application that should start on login. This will ensure that your disable/remap of the shift key is active everytime you login.
    Usage change/Things to remember
    1. Remember to hold down the Option key everytime the computer boots or reboots to bypass safe mode. The fix above is at the software level. The key is physically still shorted at the hardware level and will affect boot.
    2. Remember that at the login screen, the disable/remap is not active. So your password now has to be all caps and only letters.
As soon as I can save some money, I will get my topcase and keyboard replaced but until then this solution works great with minimal change. Hope this helps!

  • Phone is locked, too many passcode attempts. When I try to restore it won't proceed until i enter the passcode which the phone won't let me. I'm stuck. Help

My iphone 4 is locked because my son tried to enter the wrong passcode too many times. The solution on apple support says to restore it. But when I try to restore after about 10 minutes of software update it comes up with a message that it cannot continue until you enter the passcode on the phone. But the phone  is locked and you cannot enter the passcode. I'm stuck. Help!?

You can still bypass this but deleting all of the contents of your iPhone, but of you previously backed up from iCloud or iTunes you can recover te files as it used to be,
You have to download a copy of iOS software you wish to recover to, you can get from google by typing it, iOS 5.1.1 iPhone 4 etc and find links, once downloaded. it should be IPSW file,
Turn your iPhone into "DFU" mode by holding sleep/wake button and home button at the same time, you can get tutorials from google or YouTube.
once done connect to iTunes, note this is the important step, before attempting to recover you should hold "shift-key" at the same time click check for updates or recover, from if it doesn't detect the file here's a link on how to do it, but this link is iOS 4.3 the difference is you will use iOS 5 or later. http://techie-buzz.com/how-to/how-to-update-ios-4-3-itunes-manually.html
    after updating or restoring,
Congrats you bypassed your password and now restore your back up from itunes.
