Stuck with grey Loading... Screen

Hi everybody,
I am experiencing an issue with our eLearning modules. I'm not sure where the source of this issue lies, so here is what happens:
1) The eLearning is opened on the LMS
2) The user can normally do the eLearning
3) He stops and closes the eLearning on let's say slide 7
4) He reopens the eLearning but can't get pass the grey loading screen
However if I reset the eLearning and close the eLearning on, let's say slide 6, the eLearning has no problems with opening it there again.
If I delete the temporary files of the browser the eLearning can load with no problems, however if I close it on slide 7 it will get stuck again if reopened.
I experience this with other eLearnings too.
I am using IE7, we have got the latest Flash installed and we are creating the eLearnings with Captivate 5.
I was googeling around and found out, that the grey loading... screen appears when the eLearning tries to communicate with the LMS (?).
As I am quite a Newbie I'm not sure, how I can find out, how to solve this problem and if this is even a Captivate 5 problem.
Can somebody help?

It seems that there is an issue with some LMSs if bookmarking is ON, which it is by default in the Captivate LMS Customisation settings (Never Send Resume Data is unticked by default).  What may be happening here is that the LMS is sent some resume data on the user's first attempt, but when they come back for a second attempt, either the LMS is not sending the resume data properly, or the course module is not receiving what it needs, and as a result the module just gets stuck on the loading screen.
I haven't been able to nail down exactly where the issue lies.  All I know is that disabling bookmarking seems to resolve it.  I keep hoping that one of the Adobe techs will chime on on these threads to tell us whether the issue is on the Captivate side or the LMS side, or the web browser side.

  • Stuck at grey loading screen

I had my Powerbook prompt me with a software upgrade today (can't remember what it was for). After it had me restart, the desktop and dock loaded up fine. When I tried to open up Safari and Firefox, the little white dots (those things that appear underneath icons in the dock) came up, but the programs themselves never loaded (pressing "Apple+Tab" only showed Finder). After waiting a good ten minutes, I gave up and decided to restart. Problem was, the computer did nothing after choosing "Restart" in the "Cancel/Restart" option. After waiting another ten minutes, I held the power button and shut it down.
Of course now, when try to turn on my Powerbook, it'll just stay at the grey screen with the apple icon and the rotating lines underneath. I gave up twice when the grey screen took longer than 20 minutes.
I really hope someone can help... this is really aggravating!

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
First, you should fill out your profile to show which Powerbook system you have and which operating system you are running.
Find the original OS X disks that came with your system, insert the first one, and reboot holding the C key down. This will cause the Powerbook to boot from the OS X disk. Load Disk Utility, and repair the internal hard drive. Does this give you any error messages then terminate? If not, and it works, eject the OS X disk and try rebooting. If it gives you an error message, please post what it says. If it's something like 'bad b node' or 'bad tree', you'll need to use a program like Disk Warrior or TechTool Pro to fix it, as Disk Utility can't repair those types of errors.
If you can't load OS X and run Disk Utility, find the OS X disk that says in small print on the label 'AHT Version x.x', insert it, and reboot holding the option key. Choose the Apple hardware test, click the arrow to the right, and choose the extended test when prompted. Does it tell you about any hardware errors?

  • Stuck in grey loading screen

I've got a booting problem with a mid 2009 MacBook Pro running Mavericks. Everything was running fine this evening until I opened FaceTime. Everything became unresponsive for about 10 minutes, so I powered it down and turned it back on again, but did not advance past the grey screen with the Apple logo and the gear turning below. After checking online, I've tried the following:
    -Reset the NVRAM (no results)
-fsck -fy command in single user mode (I get "FILE SYSTEM SEEMS TO BE OK")
-Recovery mode (doesn't work... I get the same stuck grey screen.)
-Safe boot (doesn't work... same thing.)
I've tried booting it in verbose mode twice. The first time I repeatedly got "error reading fs block" and the second time I repeatedly got "disk0s2 I/O error" and "error truncating data fork"
Another incident which may be a clue: last night my computer, which was charging, suddenly turned off and the charging light went off. It booted back up again fine, but ever since my charger hasn't worked, even with other computers. I have another charger that has been working fine though.
I know that this sounds like a hard drive failure and I will probably need a new one, but I am hoping there is a way to log on and be able to recover some data that hasn't been backed up. Any ideas?

Quick update: I can now boot to recovery mode, but nothing else (regular booting procedure takes me to recovery mode.) Disk utility says that the drive cannot be repaired, and I can't reinstall OS X because it says I am not connected to the internet (even though it's connected to my network where other devices are working fine. I've tried Ethernet too.) a When I go to "choose startup disk" no options appear.
So now that I can access recovery mode, is it possible to make a backup to an external hard drive, even if my internal hard drive is corrupted?

  • 21.5 Inch iMac Stuck on grey Loading screen (spinning grey loading circle)...Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard

I installed Windows XP via bootcamp around 10months ago, around that time, i noticed that my Snow leopard OS had not been working, everytime i rebooted my Mac(starting in Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard) it would show a apple logo, then a loading 'bar' then the loading bar would disappear, then a grey spinning loading 'circle' would stay there, ive left it over night and it would still be spinning..
When i boot in windows XP, i can still see the Snow leopards files via bootcamp(looking at the the bootcamp drive) but i cant actually use snow leopard, and that was one of the reasons i bought a mac.
Ive tried many solutions but nothings happened i really nead help:(
    thanks.

You will need to start your computer with the original DVD that shipped with the system. Then launch disk utility to repair your hard drive.

  • How to clear grey loading screen and animated gif (Dynamic Action with "Show Processing" on submit)

    APEX V4.2.3
    DB 11.2
I have a classic report on page 1.  I have a region button called "Export" (defined by a submit dynamic action with "show processing=Yes") that submits the page and then via a branch directs me to page 2 which has a slightly different version of the report on page 1 (i.e. no breaks) which I want to capture as a CSV export.  Therefore I've set the report template on page 2 to " Export:CSV".
Now when I click on the page 1 export button the grey screen and loading gif appears indicating that the report is executing and then as expected, page 2 doesn't appear but instead the standard open/save window's dialog box appears asking to open or save the generated CSV file.  All good..but the grey loading screen remains.  How do I clear this loading screen and get back to the context of page 1 ?
    thanks in advance
    PaulP

    Hi PPlatt,
We would love to help but you left out one crucial part of the puzzle: namely how does your CSV report get exported. With the way it is setup (a redirect to another page), I'm going to assume you do that because you have some PL/SQL on that page that prints the CSV.
Now there are two questions that are crucial here:
    - How do we stop the icon from bugging us on the screen
    - How do we communicate with the browser that it should no longer display the loading icon
The first question is rather easy, two simply lines of codes can do that:
    $('#apex_wait_popup').hide();
    $('#apex_wait_overlay').hide();
But when do we use this code? Quite simple when the document is downloaded. When is it downloaded? At the end of the PL/SQL code that prints the document to the browser.
    What you could do is at the end of that code give an application item a certain value. For example :AI_PRINTED := 'Y';
Then all you need to do is let the browser ask for the value. You could do this by using JavaScript to continuously fire AJAX to the server using a JS timing event:
    http://www.w3schools.com/js/js_timing.asp
Better would be a Server send event, but since you left out another crucial piece of information: your browser, I will not go deeper into this.
Start this timing event when someone asks for the document, and end it as soon as the process returns that :AI_PRINTED equals 'Y'.
Despite the lack of information, I hope I have given, or at least inspired you to get to the solution.
    Regards,
    Joni

  • My Macbook is stuck at the loading screen (the apple with the spinning circle beneath it). I went to Best Buy, they told me to call Apple Help and ask them to restore my unit. But Apple help wont help me without charging me. Help please !!

My Macbook Pro is stuck at the loading screen (the apple with the spinning circle underneath). I went to Best Buy to get help, and they told me to call Apple Help and ask them to 'restore my unit', which he said is a matter of only about 4 mouse clicks. If it was so easy, I didn't understand why he couldn't do it for me. But he said that even though I have a 3 year warranty and protection plan with them, they were not responsible for this type of problem. Whatever.
Anyway, so I called Apple Help, and even though he was familiar with my problem, it's been more than 90 days since I purchased the laptop, therefore I'd have to set up a service agreement to get his assistance, meaning I'd have to PAY him. So now i'm stuck, and I'm just hoping somebody knows what to do to help me
I don't have any disc that I apparently need, and I don't remember ever getting one. However, if there is some other way to fix this issue, please let me know. Thanks for your time and assistance

After Update to 10.5.8, stuck on Grey Apple screen with turning gear... and it just stays there...
Apparently I can't safe mode it
Started it in verbose mode and it say disk02 i/o error
Then I restarted it in single user mode, did a sbin/fsck -fy and it says that:
    *files have been modified*
    *REBOOT NOW*
I reboot and still the same problem.
When I put in the install disk it says *cannot install in this drive* (was thinking about archive and reinstall, but I suppose not ) then when I repair and verify, it says All seems OK
    Yikes. Yikes!
    Please help.

Well, I brought to the Apple Store's genius bar. Can't say enough about the experience... they archived and reinstalled... tried everything else and like sometimes happens, transfer of data can become corrupt in a spot that just makes things go haywire. So the Archive and Reinstall worked like a charm.
Moreover, they replaced my Macbook's top board casing (don't know what else to call it..) (where you rest your hands to type) it was cracked and stuff... not under warranty, but they will replace it free due to design ... I am impressed and pleased... *and me? I am a cynical critic* still, they made the experience as painless and certainly pleasant as possible.
For all who are having problems, I urge you to not damage the wall any further with continuous headbanging: make an appointment and definitely visit the Genius Bar. Your head will thank you

Jailbreaking has its consequences and voids the Apple warranry.  We can't discuss jailbreading on this Apple forum.

  • Ibook stuck on the grey loading screen

Stupidly i was messing around and accidentally unlocked the battery which fell out while my ibook was on sleep method. Now the ibook will only start up and get stuck on the grey loading screen.
I fear i have corrupted the hard drive, i have tried resetting the logic board by logging into the base router( i don't know if thats the right terminology), i did this by pressing power, then holding down apple key and v. But when i do this after the normal writing on the screen finishes, a message comes up saying
"Warning completing a zero block transfer"
I have reset my logic board before but this message has not come up.
Any help resolving this issue would be fantastic.
    Thanks in advance!!!!!!!

    Not resetting?
Well that presents a problem because you need to check the startup disk, repair the disk if necessary, or restore OS X using OS X Recovery
You can resstore from a Time Machine backup using OS X Recovery if necessary.
