Studdering

Hi all.
I'm not too sure if this is a FCP, Compressor or DVDSP problem. I have the latest in all 3 programs. When I export my 1hr44min movie through compressor & burn it to DVD, much of my footage that has movement is very studdery. I shot w/ a DVX100 in 24p. Normally, I would think it's high shutter speed issue, but it happens indoors as well - so that's not it. I originally had problems with the MiniDVs as it was very glitchy (like every few frames)..however I thought I resolved that problem by capturing the footage through a deck rather than through my camera. The video looks fine (yet interlaced) in FCP & once I export it to DVDSP, it looks a little studdery, but not as bad as on the final DVD on a NTSC monitor. Any suggestions?...I used the 120min Apple setting when exporting.
TIA,
Heather

Is there a standard definition of what "studdering" means on this forum?
I went to grade school with a kid who stammered and stuttered. The teacher shuddered when somebody ran their finger nails down the blackboard.
I've seen DVD's that momentarily freeze then play on, DVD's that drop to black as they play even DVD's that just refuse to play at all. Then there's video that loses gin-lock and jumps, video that ghosts and video that's out of focus. What's it doing when it "studders"?

  • Updated to 4.4 and now my Bluetooth 'studders' when listening to music and a phone call. Yes I have reset the phone and removed the battery.

I just updated my Note 3 to 4.4.2. Since then when I listen to music or make a call on my Bluetooth my music and calls 'studders' and has some type of 'drop-outs' during the music and calls. This was not the case prior to the update.
Yes, I have power down the phone. Yes, I have removed the battery and restarted the phone. My Bluetooth headset is an LG 730. I tried listening to music on my other Bluetooth devices and they also 'studders' and has drop-outs during calls and music. I connected with a wired headset and the 'studdering' disappeared.
Is there a way to revert back to the previous 4.3 version of Android. I use my phone extensively for business and drive with it. The law for my state requires 'hands free' usage of my phone.

Unfortunately, I was forced to do a factory Reset. This wiped the device to a new state.
Afterwards all Blue-tooth, wi-fi and calls operated fine.
I would advise that you notify your customers that they would most likely have to do a Factory Reset once they update their device.
All contacts, pictures, data and applications were either lost or had to be reinstalled.

  • IOS 7.0.2 has basically turned my iPhone 4s into a slow, studdering mess

Last week, I upgraded my new iPhone 4s from iOS 6.1.3 -->  iOS 7.0.2, WHAT A MISTAKE.  The PHONE is a STUDDERING MESS, sad, these DEVICES are expensive and APPLE should not ALLOW a MESS like this to be DEPLOYED.
First, why I updated.  First of all iOS 7.0.2 was Downloaded to the phone, yes all 762mb was downloaded to the phone without me saying it was OK to do that.  Frustrating!!   So really the only way to FREE up the SPACE, the download is using, is either to WIPE/ERASE the phone contents or INSTALL.
Since I didn't want to lose everything on the phone, same as most people.  I said let me install iOS 7.0.2, I trust apple to come out with a good product.
    BIG Mistake.
First of all its a 16gig iPhone 4s, of that i'm only using 2gig with apps and pictures, not a lot at all, I have 1 bluetooth connected device and my home wifi connection.  So the phone has 10+ gig FREE space
    very small resources to use
Take into consideration i have been using this phone for almost 1 year with iOS 6.1.3 happily, never had a single glitch, issue, restart or problem.
NOW to get to the ISSUES with iOS 7.0.2 on my iPhone 4s
1st I've had nothing but Problems, with BlueTooth, Just DROPPING for no reason, same connections I've always had.
I event deleted the connection re-added it, restarted the phone etc...
2nd.  out of the Blue the phone just Decides to RESTART ("APPLE LOGO Screen") and I have NO Tasks/Apps Running in the back ground, I always double-click the home button and shut down all running apps etc...
3rd When I now use blue tooth from my car or headset, it just studders, its like the phone can't even keep up to a normal conversation.  What use is a phone if it can't even serve the basic task of "Talking to Someone"
So I thought, OK, I'll download the IPSW File and re-install iOS 6.1.3, Nope, Apple is no longer signing iOS 6.1.3 on an iPhone 4s and so you can no longer reload to iOS 6.1.3
I had bought Apple devices in the past and have always been happy with them and trusted apple, NEVER AGAIN
I bought / switched everyone in our family to APPLE phones, iPads.  NEVER AGAIN.  I have invested quite a bit of money in apple, BUT NEVER AGAIN
APPLE YOU SHOULD ALLOW PEOPLE TO GO BACK TO iOS 6.1.3 - if the NEW iOS 7.0.2 is not working, VERY BAD Decision you made APPLE.
I AM VERY UNHAPPY and DISAPPOINTED in APPLE DEPLOYING THIS MESS to Consumers.

what doe you mean you tried "basically everthing?" Did you follow http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1538?

  • Video playback from Final Cut Pro studders over HDMI

I have a problem playing back video from FCP. The video output will studder during horizontal pans when I output via HDMI. The audio output is not affected.
I have been playing video successfully using FireWire for output in FCP, however, my new video switcher system will not support FireWire output.
What are some possible causes of this problem?
    System stats:
    * Mac Mini (2010 model)
    * 8GB RAM
    * OS X 10.6.4 (Snow Leopard)
    * Final Cut Pro 7.0.3 (Final Cut Studio 3)

@ Studio X : The files were originally created with Final Cut Pro, rendered out to QuickTime, then are being played back with Final Cut Pro. The file that has the most noticable studdering is a 60-minute timeline sequence in Final Cut. All files are being stored and played back from the Mac Mini's internal hard drive. Everything was originally shot on DV and formatted for a 4:3 aspect ratio.
@ Shane Ross : Are there any settings in the MacOS or FCP where I can improve the HDMI video signal? Or do you know of / have any experience with Firewire to HDMI converters? Unfortunately, my new signal path relies on HDMI from the video playback.
My current setup uses the Firewire output, which is then converted to composite video & analog audio using a pair of ageing DV tape decks. That setup is becoming troublesome due to age.

  • ITunes Videos (Both Movies and TV Shows) are skipping/ studdering.

iTunes Videos (Both Movies and TV Shows) are skipping/ studdering.
These videos were taken from my hard drive, converted with Format Factory, then placed in itunes.
ON ipad the videos playback perfectly, but in itunes itself it fails drastically.
Same problem happens with quicktime. If i open these videos up with quicktime, it studders and skips, while if i open it with VLC, it works fine.
I have already disabled 3d acceleration, which helped a very small bit.
The Rest of itunes runs smoothly, just video playback is screwed
    Specs:
    HP Envy 14
Intel i5 quad core processor 2.53 ghz
    6 gb ddr3 ram
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    Itunes 10.5.1
    Quicktime 7.7.1

    Update
It turns out that the reason for not playing TV shows and movies is not the network.
Something happened with the files while copying them from the Macbook to the NAS station.
I noticed that after copying a TV show from the NAS Station back onto the Macbook Air drive; it was not possible to import that file into iTunes. iTunes ignored importing that file.
On the other side the TV shows will be played by Quicktime, either from the NAS station or from the Macbook.
It might be important to mention that the NAS station is not OSX formatted.
Does someone know what happened ?

My lap top is extremly slow. It studders. It kind of sounds like there is a fan inside and it constantly stopping and starting. And, it takes a really long time for it too start up. Whats wrong with it?

    Do you have current backups?
Those symptoms could indicate a failing Hard drive. If it dies, all your documents go with it unless you have Backups.
I have had very good luck with physical and battery problem diagnosis at the Genius Bar. Those guys put their hands (and their ears) to these machines, all day every day, and they know immediately what all those sounds mean.

  • Studdering... buffer slower than movie

I have employed two different methods to embed an flv movie in webpage, but both result in studdering because the movie catches up to the buffer.   I can't figure out what is wrong... is the frame of 30fps rate too high?  is my method of embedding the files and playback wrong?  Or is it just a function of the viewer's internet speed?    Is there a better technique?   Any feedback and help is greatly appreciated.
    Method 1:
    Dreamweaver > Insert Flash Video
    FLV size:  13,428kb
    Play time: 2:31
    URL:
    http://waterstoneproductions.com/alternative-breaks-video.htm
    Code:
    Method 2:
Import video into Action Script 3.0 file (set frame rate of stage to 30fps) and publish swf
    FLV size: 15,124kb
    Play time: 2:31
    URL:  http://waterstoneproductions.com/waters-color-video.htm
    Code:

    Thanks for that clue!
The bitrate of the flv file is 600 kbps.  Codec used is On2 VP6.
Assuming the connection speed is 625 kbps or greater,  I'm guessing I should only need 1 second of buffering.  Is that correct?
I can control the buffer setting in the action script/swf file, but how would I control it if I just use Dreamweaver to insert the flv?
And which method is the preferred method, given the size of my video?

  • What will make the picture from FCP studdering from the HDMI output, but not from the firewire output ?

I have a Mac Mini 2010, 8G ram, running on Snow Leopard. I'm playing some video clips from FinalCut Pro 7.0.3. When I'm using the HDMI output, the picture will be studdering on a horizontal panning picture. This problem does not happen when I'm using the firewirw output, which I can't use anymore with my new playback system..
Is there any setup I can use to fix this studdering?

Sorry about that, have had no need for pasting output so far as I was using Ubuntu/Mint/Sabayon so could work most things out myself.  Thanks for letting me know   Also, please mark this post SOLVED as well as STUPID lol.  I removed Pulseaudio and went over my Alsamixer settings with a LOT more careful attention, discovered that something vital was not unmuted. Doh!!  Have to say, Arch is the best learning experience ever, though

  • My ITunes video is studdering....help

I recently purchased a TV episode of sci-fi's battlestar galactica through ITunes and the audio works just fine when I play it, but the video studders and it constantly falls way behind the audio. Anything I can do to fix this?

hmmmm. it's probably worth checking if the DirectX and video drivers are up-to-date on your Dell.

  • AVCHD Video studders

I am trying to edit avchd video clips but when I drop it to the timeline, it studders.  The audio plays fine, but the video does not.  I am running CS4 version 4.1.0.  The settings I recorded in was PH 1080/30p on the Panasonic AG-HMC150P camera.  The project settings i am using is the AVCHD present for 1080i30 (60i) non-anomorphic.   I tried editing in 1080p30 but when I dropped it on the timeline it said it needed to be rendered where as the 1080i30 didn't.  So my problem is that I can't edit but it studders so bad.  Any one know how to fix this? Thank you.
Also my video card is the ATI Raden 4650.

My first thought is the same as Harm's, that your computer just can't handle the load.
Having said that, I recommend switching back to the proper preset.  Use the Interpret Footage command to make sure Premiere properly recognizes the media for what it is, changing those specs it gets wrong.

  • Audio Studdering problem in FCP

I'm using Final Cut Pro 5.0.3 on OSX 10.4.3.
I've been testing building slideshows today and through the whole process I've had problems with the audio studdering right at the beginning and at intervals in the track.
I've tried exporting via compressor and directly exporting to aiff, both have the problem. I've also had FCP to render the audio and when i start playback, I have the same problem.
The audio track contains several MP3 files that when played normally sound perfect, so there should be no reason it would be doing this.
Anyone have any ideas, I'm going to have to do a wedding slideshow soon and at this point I cannot get anything to build that works.
    thanks,
    mike

Just to add to Phunam's correct answer:
#5 Imported music from CD or iTunes
    Shane's Stock Answer #5:
To get music into FCP, it needs to be an AIFF file at 48khz, 16 bit stereo. So if you want a song from a CD, you go into the iTunes Preferences and set this up under the IMPORTING tab:
File > preferences > importing > import using - AIFF encoder > Setting - Custom
    Sample Rate - 48.000 kHz
    Sample size - 16 bit
    Channels - Stereo
If you have an mp3 that you want to use, then you can convert it thru iTunes as well.
If the piece of music you want to use is something you purchased thru iTunes, I'm afraid I can't help you there. There are copywrite issues that prevent files from being converted into the format that FCP can recognize.

  • IX4-300D Music & Video Studdering

When streaming music or video from the NAS to my desktop across a wired LAN, the music and video occasionally drops out or studders.  It appears that the transfer data rate drops to zero (0) and then resumes.  Doesn't seem to matter what player I use - VLC, FooBar, or Winamp...they all do the same thing.  It doesn't happen at exactly the same place in the file and happens with all files I play.
I have another NAS (home built using FREENAS) with media on the same LAN and don't have this problem.  That is, music and video stream to this same desktop with no drops or studdering from the FREENAS server.
I using 4 X 4TB WD RED drives in a RAID 5.  It has the most current version Firmware (4.0.8.23976).
Is there something in the configuration I missed?
    Thanks - Mike

To test out your system,  I would suggest going into Protocols and turning off anything that is not being used.  Also make sure no one else is accessing th IX4 at the time you are streaming music or video and see if this improve.
Last thing you can do to test if it is NAS or Network would be to hook up the NAS directly to the computer via eithernet cable.  You should get a 169 ip address.  Then stream the music or move and see if it still drops down to 0 when straming.

  • Speed Decrease = Studdering?

I've been working with some slow motion for the first time and have searched these forums for a solution. I know some people have recommended "tweeder" and some other 3-party apps, but I'm not really interested in importing/exporting footage like that.
Does anyone know why when I reduce the speed in my clip to about 50% or below, it studders? I do have the "Frame Blending" box ticked.
Is there another filter to apply?

If you think about what you are asking FCP to do, you won't be surprised with the result you get when slowmo-ing. When you slow something down, you are asking FCP to take the same amount of information (the original frames) and spread it farther.
The best setting to avoid uneven stuttering is an even multiple of frame rates. Frames are quantum entities and if you set an non-discreet amount the software must create an in-between frame of a mixture of the preceding and following frames. So if you set your speed to an even multiple - 300%, 200%, or a proper fraction - 50%, 33.333%, 25%, 12.5% (this equates to 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/8) you will get better results.
But still, you've only got the information from the original frames. Compressor/Twixtor/Shake all do better frame interpolations (optical flow analysis) at the expense of complication and long render times. The best way to achieve slow mo is to shoot it in slow mo.

  • Studdering and freezes with Flashplayer 11.2

    Shockwave Flash 11.2 r202
    Firefox 12.0
    Google Chrome 18.0.1025.168 m
I have a Nvidia Geforce 9800 GT with 512 megs of RAM and Nvidia drivers 301.32, a intel quad core 9550, 8 gigs of ram.  I believe they are the latest beta.  I've had this freezing/studdering video issue with Flash player for a while now and finally decided to find an answer.  It's very annoying.  I can play any other video format fine I just have this issue with flash based media.
    Thanks for your time!

Is this also happening with the released Nvidia drivers?  Have you tried disabling hardware acceleration to see if this makes any impact?
How do I disable or enable hardware acceleration?

  • Cure for studdering video playback?

I am importing short 3 minute movies from iMovie into GB3 but the video track studders when I try to play it. I have tried making a QuickTime 'full quality movie' as suggested then opening into GB3 but problem persists.
Interesting, if I 'save' a video clip in GB3 it will play fine until I press 'stop' then it will studder again when I press 'start'. The same studdering happens should I add any audio fx in a new track under it.
I just read an article in the new MacWorld by Christopher Breen saying this is a problem with long podcasts, but I have it with my very short ones.
Is this driving anyone else bonkers?
    Thanks
    PowerBook 17" Mac OS X (10.4.4) 2 gb RAM, 9700 graphics card

This is only a guess but I'm thinking that this is more related to length of video, number of audio tracks, audio effects. Your asking a lot of your hard drive, RAM and processor when your playing back video while recording audio and using effects. Your processor is plenty fast enough to do it's part but your hard drive is working pretty hard reading video/audio track and writing your audio tracks. If your ram is getting full something has to give, most video editors have a video quality adjustment that can lower the quality viewing video during editing. But the final product is fine. You could try using shorter clips and freezing tracks that are finished or a external hard drive that would probably do the most good.
