Hi, is there a way to upgrade a student version of cs5 to a non-student version of cs6?

Yes, student versions of the Creative Suite are eligible for commercial upgrade pricing. You can't upgrade from one student version to another student version but you can upgrade from student to commercial.
You can buy a qualifying upgrade through the adobe store in exactly the same way you would if you already had a commercial license.

I have bought a student CS6 as I attend Grays Harbor College in Aberdeen, WA and have installed it on my desktop and on my laptop, which I carry to school. The laptop and desktop were initialized with the proper number sent by email with no problems. Last Saturday when opening the program it wanted to give me a 30 day trial which is wrong, but I had to day yes and expected to put the initialized number in later. Trying to put the number in it says that it is not correct and now I can’t open the program at all.
I can understand that you want to stop the stealing of your programs, but penalizing the legitimate buyer is making it a little too hard.

As Jeff said, something is messing with your licensing system. Either it's a genuine permission issue or another software on your system is interfering, which could be anything from an overly keen virus scanner to some exotic freeware program that has replaced a critical system DLL. Anyway, you did provide zero system information, so this is not even beginning to go anywhere. Check the things I mentioned and then come back with more details.

Making in InDesign CS5.5, editing in CS6, then opening in CS5.5 again

I'm just a student, and I've recently bought the Design Student CS6.
My school uses CS5.5, so If I make a document in InDesign CS5.5 at school, then take it home and work on it in CS6, save it then go back to the computers at school to work on it again, will it still open and work correctly?
if not, is there any way I could save it or any sort of workflow I could follow that would help me avoid hiccups?
Like say working only in CS6 at home?

Save as IDML. Don’t expect it to work perfectly.
New features will be lost and text will likely reflow.

CS5 education Upgrade to CS6

Hi, I am a little confused about upgrade a edu version. I got a edu version of photoshop CS 4 extended, got the free CS5 (grace period) and now I want to upgrade to CS6. As I am no student any more I hope I can simply buy the regular upgrade without problems?

And now I am confused and angry.
My upgrade from CS5 Extended Edu to CS6 (no Edu) lead me to a standard CS6 without the extended features. I assume to get the CS6 Extended. What the...
Edit: I see now that I pressed the wrong button on purchasing the upgrade. Shame on me... The CS6 Extended upgrade is more expensive. So I have to deal with the support now...

Multiple problems installing upgrade from CS5 Design Prem. to CS6 Design Prem.

I had started a thread a few days ago regarding problems that I was having while installing my upgrade from CS5 Design Premium to CS6 Design Premium. Everything seemed to install fine with the exception of Acrobat X Pro. http://forums.adobe.com/message/4716847#4716847
I thought that I had resolved the issue through tech support, but apparently not. First of all, they had me install the trial version of Acrobat X which actually let me install with no errors. A couple of days passed and Acrobat asked if I would like to continue my trial or enter a serial number. I tried to use my serial that came with my upgrade but it rejected it, so I opted to continue the trial. Then earlier today as I was working in InDesign, upon launching I got a script error message.

Tried the shortcut for them and nothing happened. I have yet to try to open any files containing effects (drop shadow or something) but am guessing that they will not work. My next course of action was to try to Uninstall and Re-Install. I removed CS6 and Acrobat X Pro from my computer and ran the Creative Suite Cleaner program. Then instead of installing the upgrade from the DVD, I decided to download the program from the Adobe LWS and give that a go thinking that maybe the download files are more up-to-date than the DVD that I recieved. Now it seems I am back to square one with the same problems (InDesign missing 'Effects' and who knows what else, and Acrobat X Pro failed to install), but this time I have diffent errors on the "error summary file" that shows up as a link in the "Installation Complete" dialog box. Sorry for being windy, but I really need to get this resolved. Thanks for any and all input. PC is Dell Precision T3500 running Windows 7 and is current on it's updates.

Copy CS5 batch files to CS6

Hi:
Am in the process of upgrading from CS5 Design Standard to CS6 DS. I had no problem copying my custom InDesign workspaces from the earlier version to the new version.
What I'm having a hard time with, is how can I get the batch files I use in Photoshop CS5 to copy over to the current version? I distinctly remember doing this when I moved from CS4 to CS5, but for the life of me, I can't remember how I did it, and I've been looking all over the Internet with no success.
I'm on OS 10.6.8 (I know it's old, but everything works beautifully, and I'm not gonna move to ML until I absolutely have to…)

You save actions by using the flyout menu in the top right corner of the actions palette. That's the only way to migrate them safely from version to version.

What do you consider a sensible price? PS CS6 extended is available only when you purchase the CS6 Suite, which is around $1000 for the upgrade from CS5. PS 6, which is not extended, is about $200, but I'm not sure about upgrading to a single app from a suite. Adobe used to allow it, but I'm not sure about now. PS CC and Lightroom 5 combo is $9.99 a month or PS CC alone for $19.99 or the whole CC suite for $29 a month. The latest CC apps are "extended."

Hi David,
You need to download CS6 Photoshop and enter the serial number for CS6 Photoshop and then you would be prompted to enter the serial number for qualifying product.
Enter the CS5 serial number in order to install and activate CS5 Photoshop on your machine.

Using CS5.5 javacode in CS6

I know the java/corba api is no longer supported in CS6. Does this mean that CS5.5 code is not guaranteed to work on CS6?
I ask this because i have following issue:

How far can i trust to use the CS5.5 code in CS6?
The InDesignServerAPI.jar and snippets.jar, delivered with the "Adobe_InDesign_CS6_Server_SDK_370_Mac" are in my class path.

What is the safest way to convert a CS5.5 file to CS6?

At the agency I work at, we've recently had issues with information loss in documents when opening a CS5.5 file in CS6 and vice versa. So, is there a better way to convert besides saving a CS5.5 .INDD file as a .IDML to open in CS6? And if not, is there a way to compare either the .INDD/.IDML files or the exported .PDFs without having to go line-by-line on every page?

I've found Acrobat Pro's document compare feature very useful for some jobs, and irritating for others. One of its modes amounts to light-tabling the two documents, but I usually want a text compare, most recently of a 450-pp. book, where the 250-pp. max. meant I had to do it in two chunks. Acrobat 9 seems happier with more RAM: I learned not to approach the 250-pp. max on my Vista64 machine with 8 GB, but the package seems more reliable on my Win7 machine with 16 GB. It often generates quite a few false positives, which take getting used to. Versions 7 and 8, if I recall correctly, would place the pages side-by-side, which I prefer; version 9 can still be made to do this, I'm note sure about X.

Saving CS5.5 files using CS6

I've just installed CS6 and I'm running into the same problem I did when I upgraded to 5.5 at the time. I'm running into 3 problems.
1. The files I created using CS5.5, aren't automatically recognized as CS6 files. For instance, an InDesign 5.5 file has a white 'note' icon. When I force the file to be opened with InDesign 6 by default, the icon changes to a white note with a tiny InDesign icon in it, instead of a full CS6 icon:
2. But that's not the most annoying thing. When I open up a CS5.5 file in CS6, it doesn't remember it's location. So when I save it, it treats the file as a new file and I have to browse back into my filing structure to find the original file location and overwrite that. It marks it as [converted] in the file name when I open it. Maybe that has something to do with it?
I just noticed it does the same thing with my Photoshop files.
3. I also noticed that, although I uninstalled 5.5 after installing 6, that the old 5.5 folders are still in the Adobe folder. Does that have something to do with it, maybe?
Do you have a solution or this perhaps?

Thanks for the quick answer! Ok, if that's what it is, a bit annoying, I'll live with it . I'd just like my icons to appear as they should. I reinstalled CS5.5 but that didn't do it, so I'm uninstalling bot versions now - what do you suggest? Installing CS5.5 first and then CS6 - leaving CS5.5 running on my computer? In that case, do I have to set the files to 'open with CS6' as default program by right-clicking a file and choose open with CS6? Or is there another way to have files opening with CS6 by default (thus not messing up the icons)?
Or will just installing CS6 do the icon trick when everything is uninstalled?

CS5.5 swf fine CS6 swf does not display in browser

I did a flash project for a client in CS5 and CS5.5. I have done periodic updates in 5.5 over the last year with no problems. I just did another update and now that I'm in CS6 I saved as a CS6 .swf. But when I upload the index.html file to the server I do not get the swf. I get a whitebox with the title page the the player securuty message. I then created two index.html files, one with the CS5.5 swf and one with the CS6 swf, uploaded to the server ( site server) and I get the same thing, CS5.5 isplays and CS6 does not. I looked at the embed codes and the only diference I see is the CS6 calls the Flash 15 player. I'm up to date as far as players go so I tried to change the 15 to player 11 ( thats the palyer the CS5.5 swf calls) and I still get the same result.

yes, you're using problematic embedding code: <param name="swfversion" value="12.0.0.0" />
open your fla with cs 5.5 or cs6, whichever you want to use. publish an html file using flash and test with that html file. if there's no reason to check for flash player version, don't tick "detect flash player version" in the publish settings. if there is a reason to check , tick it and specify the required player version (and pick a version that currently exists).

How can I go from Premiere Pro CS5 to After Effects CS6? (Problem)

I am trying to send my clip from Premiere Pro CS5 to After Effects CS6, but when I right click on the clip, I can't even select the option to send it to After Effects. I can see the option to send it to After Effects, but I just cant select it. Any ideas?

You can do what you want... only going the other way!
You can import a CS5 Premiere Project (in its entirety
or a selected sequence) into CS6 Ae.
In CS6 Ae:
File>Import>Adobe Premiere Pro Project...
Navigate to your CS5 Premiere project, double-click
and select 'All Sequences', or your preferred sequence.
As Jim points out, Dynamic Linking will only work
between matching versions of Pr and Ae.

Any Adobe Desktop applications don't overwrite the older version while installation. They install in seperate folders. You can Install and use CS5 and CS6 on the same computer, even simultaneously.
