firstly i apologise for needing to rant but personally i just want to buy and own a perpetual desktop lic. for lightroom 6. I don't want CC. I know adobe would like to rip everyone off by hooking them into a long term CC membership. If i want it i'll buy it, however all im looking for is the buy page to lightroom 6 for students. Can i find it?...not in your life. just keep returning to CC membership page. PLEASE help and let me know where this page is. Thanks, David

Any ideas?

My student has been using Lightroom 4 with Photoshop CS5 on her Mac for well over a year. Because of the difference between the Camera raw version available to her in Photoshop CS5 and the raw process in Lightroom 4, she has been exporting her raw images from Lightroom and choosing the "Render using Lightroom option when it popped up in the dialogue box. She has been doing this for over a year and a half without any problem. Today when she hit Command E no dialogue box appeared and the image just opened in Photoshop. I'm concerned that all of her Lightroom edits are not being rendered to Photoshop. Anyone have an idea as to how we can get the "Render using Lightroom" dialogue back?

• Installing Issue with Student/Teacher Version of Lightroom 5

I recently purchased a Student/Teacher Version of Lightroom 5 for MAC from Amazon. Followed instruction on website to submit student credentials. Received Email stating that my eligibility verification request was approved and then received my activation and registration (Product ID and Serial Number) needed for install. Instructions say that I would be prompted for this information but when inserting disc and clicking on the PKG file, it appears to install, but never prompts me for the activation info.
When it's complete I get nothing. Am I doing something wrong here? Why didn't it ask for my Student verification Info? Please advise.

I just installed LR CC and am having trouble opening catalogs where I followed the instructions to upgrade. Just posted a question about it.
Discovered a problem when I went looking for some images that were not included in the most recent catalog. After opening up a couple of older ones and upgrading, I went back to the most recent and couldn't opening. Message says it is not writable. And also says it may be due to incorrect permissions. If you have any suggestions for this, I would love to hear them.

• Perpetual License Lightroom 5 Download

Does anyone have the link for the non-cloud download? If I download the cloud-based lightroom and try to activate it with my perpetual license, it won't work. Support gave me the link in chat, and I should have copied it for safe keeping.
The download links used to be on the product page linked in our emailed receipts of purchase, but they're gone now.
Thanks!

• How do I get missing folders from my desktop to my Lightroom 5 catalog?

Okay, here is the problem: I have some folders that I know are on my desktop. When I click on "Import", LR takes me to the next layer or screen, where I see the Files in their hard drives. I click on the hard drive that has my "stuff". I see the file for My Lightroom Photos. I click on it. When I go down to where the folders that are "missing" on the catalog on the Library page, I see them. If I go to where I want to import them to (on the right panel), they are there.
I just do not see them in the folders, under the Catalog section in the Library.
How do I get those files that are not showing up on the Library to the library?
This is very hard to explain without someone being able to see what I see.
Thank you

Maybe I misunderstood ... my mistake. However, please in the future do not use the word "file" when you really mean "folder".
You claim these folders are showing in the Import section, but not in the main Library page (I presume in the left hand side Folder Panel). Is that correct?
This means you have to import the photos in those folders into Lightroom and then the folders will show in the Library module Folder Panel.

• How to integrate desktop DNGs into Lightroom folder structure?

I had a crisis earlier this year when I bought a Canon 6D just before a trip and realized too late that Lightroom 3 on my MacBook wouldn't accept it. So in desperation I downloaded Adobe's DNG converter, which solved the immediate problem, but for some reason Lightroom 3 wouldn't automatically put 'em in neatly dated folders like it did with the old Canon raw files, so I had to put 'em into folders on my desktop. Any suggestions on how to straighten out the mess?

Thanks for this, sorry I didn't respond earlier. I don't remember the details now but during the trip, when I stuck the card from the 6D into the MacBook, Lightroom 3 wouldn't accept the images. So I converted them to DNGs and then Lightroom would accept them.
I'm just embarking on another trip (still using LR3 in my MacBook for reasons I won't bore you with) so I'll pay closer attention this time and see if I can benefit from your advice. Thanks again.

• Desktop configuration for Lightroom 3

I am planning to upgrade my desktop computer, what kind of configuration
/hardware should I be looking for to get the best result from the Lightroom 3 and
Photoshop CS5 softwares?
I'm not into games and movie ... just for photographic images development and display ... all other times I am using it for work. Appreciate getting some advice before approaching the computer salesmen .

@clvrmnky: I think you missed the fact that HowChun also wants to run CS5, which can certainly benefit from a faster graphics card, particularly with the latest offerings from NVIDIA. (Adobe has been working with them a lot lately.) Given Photoshop's demanding system requirements, Photoshop users have always been a relatively close second to gamers in terms of always being on the lookout for ways to eek out another ounce of performance from their systems with upgrades or configuration tweaks.
@HowChun: I would point you to the Adobe TechNote, "Optimize performance of Photoshop CS5 and CS4 on Windows 7, Vista, and XP:"
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/404/kb404439.html
It is chock-full of excellent advice.
You didn't provide us with a budget, the types of images you work with, or how computer savvy you are, so it's impossible to make a specific recommendation. I can say that you're lucky to be buying a new computer now, as just about every component category has a new generation of technology available: great new Core i5 and i7 CPUs, fast triple channel RAM (for i7 9x0 CPUs), amazingly fast graphics cards, 4 Gbit/sec(!) USB 3.0, Solid State Drives (SSDs), etc. Then there is the whole area of overclocking, liquid cooling, and other hyper-performance configurations, which make up the playing ground for Alienware, Origin Genesis, Falcon Northwest, and other companies. They're happy to build you an amazing rig if you're not up to building it yourself. But be forewarned... it can get expensive fast! (These rigs are almost exclusively for gamers, but you can customize many of them to be more optimized for LR3/CS5-type work.)
You should look at some of the awesome computer configurations other LR users have. It should give you an idea of what's possible. There are several in this recent thread:
http://forums.adobe.com/message/2902956#2902956
There have been several other posts on this topic in the Lightroom forum, but unfortunately, a lot of people post without knowing much!
I would also encourage you to do a Google search for additional resources. You might want to check out some of the performance sites, particularly Tom's Hardware Guide (http://www.tomshardware.com/us/), as well as (obviously) the Photoshop forum.
Good luck to you!

• How do I transfer edits from my iPad to the desktop version of Lightroom?

I am trying to transfer edits made on an iPad to the desktop Lightroom CC.
The edits were made while travelling without a computer and ideally I would like to import these edits into the desktop files.
Using the Mac version.

Ok, just to make sure that I understand what you are trying to do:
You have already edited the images on the iPad but you have imported the images to your Desktop where the changes aren't visible since you once again took them from the SD card?
As I understand it you have a different copy of the images on your device and the desktop since the edits weren't on the SD card once you imported them to the Desktop.
I still don't know which application you did these changes on the iPad or if your camera takes RAW's or JPG's.

• Laptop and Desktop interaction with Lightroom

I'm just getting started with Lightroom and one of my big concerns thusfar has been the interaction between photos with my desktop PC (permanent storage) and travel laptop (Macbook Air).
I've read a ton of tutorials and posts on the matter, but they seem a bit outside the scope of what I'm doing. Many had people using dropbox to sync the two together, but I think that may be outside the scope of what I'm looking for.
Basically, here's my setup.
-Desktop PC houses my entire library of image files. Every night it is backed up to a file server
-Macbook Air that I take on the road with me
What I want to be able to do is take my Macbook Air on trips, and during the trip load my images onto it and do some light editing in lightroom. When I get home, I want to move all of the images into my permanent location on my desktop PC and copy the changes I made to the catalog on the road into my catalog that I use at home.
So I guess my questions are:
1. How is Lightroom going to handle my images changing locations? Initially they'll be in the default folder on my Mac, where I'll be editing them on the Mac, but eventually I'll move them all over to the storage location on my home PC.
2. Can I import an entire catalog from my Mac onto the PC? I think this part is pretty easy but just wanted to make sure.
3. If I were to store the images on my home PC long-term, could I use dropbox just for the catalog files? I'm envisioning a scenario where the images are on my home PC and the catalog is on Dropbox, always sync'd such that I never have to import/export it, but I'm not sure if this is possible (I'd heard there were some issues with this, but the posts are a few years old).
4. Does Lightroom need access to the original image files at all times or just when creating the catalog? That is, if the files are on my home PC and I'm away on my laptop and don't have access to the original files, but do have access to the catalog, will it work?

What I've done in a similar situation is select the images on the laptop, and then Export as Catalog. That creates a folder with a catalog containing all the edits, and another folder with the files themselves (assuming you check that option in the dialog box). Then I import from that catalog on my desktop.
There may be a better way, though....

• Why does desktop icon and Lightroom in program list disappear?

I have a new computer and have installed and reinstalled LR several times. When I begin work the next morning, the Lightroom icon has disappeared and the program no longer appears on my "All Programs" list. The program is still on my hard disk and will launch from there, but it is time consuming and annoying. I am running LR 64bit on Windows 7. Paul Armes

Paul,
Are you sure you're installing and using (the following day) LR from within the same user?

• Working with Lightroom between a Windows desktop and laptop

Please forgive me if there appears to be an obvious answer to this question. I'm sure a lot of it has to do with work flows.
I have both a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit desktop and laptop both with Adobe CC (Photoshop CC 2014 & Lightroom 5.6) installed.
I always treat my desktop as my "Main" machine as it holds ALL of my 10,000 odd images all stor ed in a folder structure.
As a very new Lightroom user, I'm slowly starting to bring all these images into a LR catalogue folder by folder, but this will take some time.
My actual question is how can I edit a photo on my laptop in LR but ensure that the edited image is stored back in my Lightroom Catalogue on my desktop? I hope this question makes sense.
I don't store all my images up onto the cloud seeing we're talking just over 100GB. It's not like LR Mobile where one can select an image or collection to Sync and my understanding is that it appears on your Lightroom Mobile; I'm an android person and so yes, am STILL waiting for an android version of Lightroom Mobile
Thank you all for your patience with a newbie LR user

Do the editing on the laptop, then use the Lightroom command File->Export as Catalog, transfer the resulting files to the desktop, use the Lightroom command File->Import from Another Catalog

• Lightroom is shown as installed in creative cloud desktop app but it is not

Hi,
I am new to the creative cloud and signed up for the photographic bundle.
I went to the lightroom download first in the creative cloud download center and downloaded the cc desktop app as described.
After installation the cc desktop app shows lightroom installed and up to date even when it hasn't installed anything. Lightroom is not show in the list of available app since it "thinks" it is already installed, I guess.
Is there a way to reinstall Lightroom?
I am working on an iMac, i5, 12GB RAM with OS X Mavericks and Fusion Drive
Best regards
Marco Runge

Uninstall whatever version of LR you have install, now, perhaps a trial that has expired. Use the normal uninstall process for your computer OS.
Then Quit the CC Desktop application, then restart it. At this point it’ll look for what is still installed locally and see that LR has been uninstalled, and offer you the CC version to install.
If that doesn’t work try the more severe things, here:
