Student needing some questions answered about Manufacturing Scheduling software

Greetings;
I am a undergraduate senior at Arizona State University majoring in Supply Chain Management. I am currently doing a project about Oracle's Manufacturing Scheduling option and have a few general questions for those of you that have used the software and/or involved with its implementation. Your help is greatly appreciated. If you are uncomfortable releasing your company's name that is fine. If you do not want to post the answers here, I can also be emailed at rmkraus"SAYNOTOSPAMBOTS"@asu.edu. Thank you!!
The questions I have are:
What is your experience with the manufacturing scheduling software?
What is/was your role with the software?(ie buyer, consultant, user, technical support, etc)
How do you feel about the software's ease of use?
What training did you recieve or did your company offer?
How much did implementing the software approxiamately cost?
What do you feel are the advantages of the software?
What do you feel are the disadvantages of the software?
Did your company have any problems during the implementation?
Has your company experienced cost savings due to the software?
Have you or your company used any competing software in the past?
Any other insight that you would like to share?
Thank you, I greatly appreciate your help.

Im not sure on 5
I know it's unusual, but if your project budget is
good you may have more than one constructor. At least
that's what I thoughtach.. you poor fellow, you are confused now aren't you.
i bet taht in the fifth question they are talking about 'constructor methods', not procrammers who are constructing the code (or 'contractors')
if your budget allws then you may even have three or 87 contractors, but that's not the case here.
i hope that clarifies things a bit.
and PS! i don't like when people intentionally give bad solutions to others.

  • Thinking about purchasing a Macbook, but I need some questions answered

    Hey everybody,
I got a response to my Craigslist ad, so it's looking like selling my iMac G5 and buying a new Macbook might actually happen. My only problem is that I have some questions about what to do with my money. I'm not a power user, or someone who really plays games (other than my Nintendo emulators) so I already know that a Macbook is the right computer for me.
    (1) I don't have external storage, so how should I go about transferring my stuff? Buying the Macbook before selling my iMac is not an option because I just don't have that much money. I've read that some people buy the Macbook and then upgrade the HD, using the 60 Gig that comes with it as their external storage by buying a $20 case for it. I have about 50 GB taken up on my iMac, so I'm going to probably need around 100 GB at least. I know upgrading the memory doesn't, but does upgrading the HD void the warranty? Any brand recommendations for HD's? Heat and noise are very important to me. (7200 RPM is out)
    (2) I never really used the Superdrive on my iMac, but it was nice to know it was there. Is the performance difference from 1.83 to 2Ghz noticeable? I hear it's not, but I also read that under Rosetta it matters. Since Office isn't universal yet, I'd like to know. Can anyone verify this?
    (3) I read on MacOSRumors that Leopard is probably going to do some nice little graphic effects when it's released, and that the next revision of the Macbook Core Duo will probably still have integrated graphics. Since I don't plan on doing this again for at least another year, do you think the Intel graphics will be enough to keep up for a little while?
    (4) Anybody have some experience with selling a computer on Craigslist? I'm smart enough to request cash, local buyers only, and have them meet me at my house to try the computer out. Any advice on how to make sure this runs smoothly? I might end up leaving some things on the computer for the buyer. Anything that I should make sure to delete (i.e. preferences, passwords, etc.?) A checklist of what I should remember to do would really help.
I think that about covers all of it...Thanks in advance.

I sold my computer on Craigslist. No problems. I think it's only really dodgy if you are buying one from there - then you should be very careful!
I'm not sure exactly the best way to go about deleting your stuff, but you have the right idea: get rid of your preferences and passwords, and your internet history as well.
I'm not sure how to look at 'Keychain', but you might want to make sure that this is empty.
In terms of processor speed, I can't help you: I have just got the 2Ghz, but partly because not having a DVD burner isn't an option for me. As file sizes and your storage needs increase, your need for a DVD burner will probably increase as well.
Leopard is not far away now, and I would guess that Apple would make sure that their new OS will work adequately on their new computers. I would be surprised if there is much of a noticeable difference in anything but the most graphics heavy applications. Could be wrong about this, but I think that the basic GUI will perform well on any MacBook.
In terms of moving info from your iMac... the cheapest thing apart from buying the MacBook before you sell is borrowing a HD or iPod from a friend. 50G isn't THAT much info, you could always burn it to DVD-Rs in a pinch.

Set it up with your existing iTunes account. If you are in the US when you set it up you may face some issues downloadinig (I've never experienced it but there do seem to be issues with people  trying to access iTunes outside of their 'home' area..

  • Trying to redeem iTunes card told first time purchase on computer needs security question answered which I did not set up or know the answer to

Trying to redeem iTunes card. Was told first time purchase needs security questions answered and don't remeber setting them up to start with and I have made several purchases before without answering questions. Getting no help from Apple support. How can I make new answers for new security questions.

If you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account then the steps half-way down this page give you a reset link on your account : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer 2 of your questions) then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
When they've been reset (and if you don't already have a rescue email address) you can then use the steps half-way down the HT5312 link above to add a rescue email address for potential future use

  • I have some questions regarding setting up a software RAID 0 on a Mac Pro

I have some questions regarding setting up a software RAID 0 on a Mac pro (early 2009).
These questions might seem stupid to many of you, but, as my last, in fact my one and only, computer before the Mac Pro was a IICX/4/80 running System 7.5, I am a complete novice regarding this particular matter.
A few days ago I installed a WD3000HLFS VelociRaptor 300GB in bay 1, and moved the original 640GB HD to bay 2. I now have 2 bootable internal drives, and currently I am using the VR300 as my startup disk. Instead of cloning from the original drive, I have reinstalled the Mac OS, and all my applications & software onto the VR300. Everything is backed up onto a WD SE II 2TB external drive, using Time Machine. The original 640GB has an eDrive partition, which was created some time ago using TechTool Pro 5.
The system will be used primarily for photo editing, digital imaging, and to produce colour prints up to A2 size. Some of the image files, from scanned imports of film negatives & transparencies, will be 40MB or larger. Next year I hope to buy a high resolution full frame digital SLR, which will also generate large files.
Currently I am using Apple's bundled iPhoto, Aperture 2, Photoshop Elements 8, Silverfast Ai, ColorMunki Photo, EZcolor and other applications/software. I will also be using Photoshop CS5, when it becomes available, and I will probably change over to Lightroom 3, which is currently in Beta, because I have had problems with Aperture, which, until recent upgrades (HD, RAM & graphics card) to my system, would not even load images for print. All I had was a blank preview page, and a constant, frozen "loading" message - the symbol underneath remained static, instead of revolving!
It is now possible to print images from within Aperture 2, but I am not happy with the colour fidelity, whereas it is possible to produce excellent, natural colour prints using its "minnow" sibling, iPhoto!
My intention is to buy another 3 VR300s to form a 4 drive Raid 0 array for optimum performance, and to store the original 640GB drive as an emergency bootable back-up. I would have ordered the additional VR300s already, but for the fact that there appears to have been a run on them, and currently they are out of stock at all, but the more expensive, UK resellers.
I should be most grateful to receive advice regarding the following questions:
    QUESTION 1:
I have had a look at the RAID setting up facility in Disk Utility and it states: "To create a RAID set, drag disks or partitions into the list below".
If I install another 3 VR300s, can I drag all 4 of them into the "list below" box, without any risk of losing everything I have already installed on the existing VR300?
Or would I have to reinstall the OS, applications and software again?
I mention this, because one of the applications, Personal accountz, has a label on its CD wallet stating that the Licence Key can only be used once, and I have already used it when I installed it on the existing VR300.
    QUESTION 2:
I understand that the failure of just one drive will result in all the data in a Raid 0 array being lost.
Does this mean that I would not be able to boot up from the 4 drive array in that scenario?
Even so, it would be worth the risk to gain the optimum performance provide by Raid 0 over the other RAID setup options, and, in addition to the SE II, I will probably back up all my image files onto a portable drive as an additional precaution.
    QUESTION 3:
Is it possible to create an eDrive partition, using TechTool Pro 5, on the VR300 in bay !?
Or would this not be of any use anyway, in the event of a single drive failure?
    QUESTION 4:
Would there be a significant increase in performance using a 4 x VR300 drive RAID 0 array, compared to only 2 or 3 drives?
    QUESTION 5:
If I used a 3 x VR300 RAID 0 array, and installed either a cloned VR300 or the original 640GB HD in bay 4, and I left the Startup Disk in System Preferences unlocked, would the system boot up automatically from the 4th. drive in the event of a single drive failure in the 3 drive RAID 0 array which had been selected for startup?
Apologies if these seem stupid questions, but I am trying to determine the best option without foregoing optimum performance.

    Well said.
    Steps to set up RAID
Setting up a RAID array in Mac OS X is part of the installation process. This procedure assumes that you have already installed Mac OS 10.1 and the hard drive subsystem (two hard drives and a PCI controller card, for example) that RAID will be implemented on. Follow these steps:
    1. Open Disk Utility (/Applications/Utilities).
    2. When the disks appear in the pane on the left, select the disks you wish to be in the array and drag them to the disk panel.
    3. Choose Stripe or Mirror from the RAID Scheme pop-up menu.
    4. Name the RAID set.
    5. Choose a volume format. The size of the array will be automatically determined based on what you selected.
    6. Click Create.
Recovering from a hard drive failure on a mirrored array
    1. Open Disk Utility in (/Applications/Utilities).
    2. Click the RAID tab. If an issue has occurred, a dialog box will appear that describes it.
    3. If an issue with the disk is indicated, click Rebuild.
    4. If Rebuild does not work, shut down the computer and replace the damaged hard disk.
    5. Repeat steps 1 and 2.
    6. Drag the icon of the new disk on top of that of the removed disk.
    7. Click Rebuild.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2559
    Drive A + B = VOLUME ONE
    Drive C + D = VOLUME TWO
What you put on those volumes is of course up to you and easy to do.
A system really only needs to be backed up "as needed" like before you add or update or install anything.
/Users can be backed up hourly, daily, weekly schedule
    Media files as needed.
    Things that hurt performance:
    Page outs
Spotlight - disable this for boot drive and 'scratch'
SCRATCH: Temporary space; erased between projects and steps.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StandardRAIDlevels
(normally I'd link to Wikipedia but I can't load right now)
Disk drives are the slowest component, so tackling that has always made sense. Easy way to make a difference. More RAM only if it will be of value and used. Same with more/faster processors, or graphic card.

  • I need some questions anserd PLEASE HELP

yo all, i have a 30gig ipod video and i have some questions which are hacking at my brain. i hope i can get some ansers
#1 apparantly, when i update itunes it wipes my libary clean? is this true?
#2 E.G:i go to my friends house, to get some songs, but he has a mac, and i have a pc, and when you download songs from your friends mac.. apparantly it wipes all your songs
since you have a pc and he has a mac! T OR F?
#3 when i connect my ipod it updates, but when itunes says "Ipod update complete, OK to disconnect" my ipod still says "Do not disconnect" is it really ok to disconnect?
#4 i have about 450MB used up on my ipod..and theres a thousand MB to a GB, correct? in itunes it says i have 26GB left when i havent even use up one!(although, i have itunes 6..and theres 6.3 or something..but i dont want to update due to question 1#!)

    Hello ipodsrock_thecasba,
    #1 Absolutely not true
#2 False. The songs are not being wiped because you have a pc and he has a mac. The songs are being wiped because you say yes to the message that pops up saying "this ipod is linked to another library, do you want to link it to this library?"
Read this for tips on using your ipod with multiple computers:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61675
#3 Not always. Could be another music program on your computer capable of reading the ipod is doing just that. Could be an antivirus program is scanning the ipods disk. If you can feel/listen to the ipod and the disk is not being accessed/spinning it should be safe to disconnect (you may need to reset the ipod afterwards).
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93492
#4 Read this (particularly the third section "One more thing about iPod disk size"):
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60955
    Hope that helps
EDIT: Dude calm down. 8 minutes after posting your question and you are screaming for answers. I almost wish now that I had not bothered to take the time to even try to help.

  • [Solved] Some question's about mutt.

    Hello!
I searched for a nice e-mail client and  I found mutt it's really nice but here's some question's...
1.What about images in post's and how would they will be open?
    2.Does muttt support Unicode (UTF-8)?
    Thtat's all for now!
BTW.If somone has better proposition for a mail client please post (except KMail and Thunderbird).

    1) mutt uses .mailcap to specify what applications to use to open up attachments (all images in emails are attachments).
    2) Yes. You may want to search the mutt mail archives for specifics (I know it's come up on there quite a bit). mutt will use the charset specified in the email itself, and you can set the "assumed_charset" variable to handle emails that don't specify it.

Also, if you like minimalist, try nmh (don't know if it's in AUR).
Oh and many people like Claws email (and/or Sylpheed Claws). I thnk that's the nicest of the GUI clients that I've looked at.

  • Need this question answered...Helpp.

Well my sound in my safari is not working anymore and also in games that i download from the internet. I'm wondering if there is a solution to this problem.
Also i've had a problem with how slow my safari, foxfire, and other programs have been is there anyway to 'clean' out the computer or something so that its not so slow.
    Thank you.

At this point I think you should get Applejack...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, then when the prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 5 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
Sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files!

  • Need some honest opinions about Campus VPNs - MPLS in the Enterprise

Our organization is considering the new Cisco Campus VPN model for one of our new research facilities (~1000 people). They are suggesting a Layer 3 MPLS-iBGP-VPN Core and Distribution Layer (between the PEs) and Layer 2 at the Access. This seems unnecessarily complex and rather difficult to manage. We're going to end up with anywhere from 30-50 VRFs, and we'll end up having to place 6500s w/Sup 720s everywhere (even at the Access). This sounds like overkill to me. Thoughts?

It basically reads like I wrote a paper describing what I've been thinking about. ;)
So I guess that means I like the architecture as a general rule. My question to some degree still stands regarding what it is you want and what you need for your environment.
If you really need the kind of services afforded by this design, then there's not much else you can do that's scalable.
However, I noticed when the Superverisor 32 came out that it mentioned future MPLS support. I don't know what timeframe the necessary software will come out in (or if it's out already), but depending on the timeframe for your implementation it may be possible for them to coincide in some beneficial way. That would certainly save you rather a lot of money I suspect, as the Sup32s are quite a bit less expensive than the Sup720s (particularly if you're considering having two in each chassis for redundancy). Like I said, I have no idea about availability, but it may be something to consider if you can weasel some dates out of your Cisco salesman (or woman).

  • Wanting to Change to BT - Need some questions answ...

I am currently with Virgin Media at the moment, and have had many many issues with my internet.
Basically I moved to my current address in August, and we were with Virgin (Cable) at my old address, they said we had to switch to DSL because we don't have cable in the new area because it is an 'offnet' area. Meaning that the equipment at the nearest exchange is owned by BT and they rent out lines to Virgin and Sky and all the rest.
My nearest exchange is 0.4 miles away. It is offcom classification 'Market 1' It provides ADSL ONLY. And it provides no wireless or LLP connections, no cable. BT Adsl and Adsl status MAX - on BT wholesale.
My theory is that if I swap to BT, who owns the line technically my problem will be fixed.
During peak times my connection drops from 7.5mbps to 0.02mbps. I am an avid gamer, and on World of Warcraft my ping during peak time goes from 85-150 to 10,000ms and up.
I requested my MAC code today after 2 months of waiting about for them to 'fix'it. (It is a known issue with them).
So my questions are: Will I get a better evening service with BT, I got appalling service with Virgin, and I had sky for 2 months -october to december- which was not a lot better.
I am getting fed up of my internet working properly only half the time.
I just want to be able to use the internet properly in the evenings and to be able to play World of Warcraft.
I am not exceeding my download limits on my current ISP. I have confirmed this with them. I check the e-mail everyday to check if I am nearing my cap.

Can't answer your question exactly except to say that I am in the middle of trying to move home and get the broadband on at the new house with BT and am very unhappy with the problems I am having. Like you, I am changing ISPs.
Tthe new house already has a BT Openreach phone socket so I thought it would be easy but the ordering process and their systems are a real mess.
The 'home hub'  router was delivered on thursday, same day the phone line was put on and supposedly the broadband. Next day I got a text saying it would be another week for the broadband. When we checked they had one letter incorrect in the postcode. I have since spent two very long calls to their asian call centre - chap was very helpful but defeated by their system.
Latest is that apparently the original order has been cancelled and a new order put through with the correct post code but I still have to wait for a week for the line to be initialised because they cannot deliver a home hub until then - even though I already have a home hub, did not want to start a new order but simply edit the address for the existing order! What a performance.
If there is a problem with the line at the house, now that they do have the correct address, no-one can confirm this. The Openzone socket looks very recent and AFAIK was in use until recently so... what is going on.
I am very concerned at the level of support so far. What if we get a more serious problem in the future. I am seriously considering cancelling the entire order and going else where - even Talk Talk who have taken over my previous ISP were better than this despite their terrible reputation. Really not impressed - especially since I will bel ocked into an 18 month contract with a capped download limit. Sky looks tempting.
And if you are wondering why I went with BT - it was because I thought it would be simpler and easier to get it at the same time as the phone line.... hollow laugh.
Good luck - you may need it

PS - I have over the years arranged BB from three other providers for myself and family and this is the only time there have been so many problems.

I don't claim to speak for Verizon, but I will attempt to answer your questions from my experience, and publicly available information.
1). The answer is a trial is sometimes available for FiOS, but probably not for DSL. You do have the option of a 2 year contract, a 1 year contract, or NO CONTRACT. You will pay more per month without a contract, but you can cancel at anytime if you don't have a contract. No contract=no termination fees.
2). There is no need to use ANY VERIZON supplied software. You DSL connection will work quite well without it, and many DSL customers have NO VERIZON supplied software on their systems.
3). There is no modem rental fee. If you have a  1  or  2 year contract a mode/router with WiFi  is provided at no charge. Without a contract, you will probably have to buy either a modem or modem/router with WiFi.

  • I just need a simple answer about audio being outa sync with video!!!!

I've been searching the forms but found no straight answer on how to make the audio in sync with the video when using videora to transfer movies. The movie plays fine until about 10 minutes, then it starts getting way off. I am tired so can someone come to my rescue?????????
    Windows XP   Windows XP Pro

The problem you are describing is a known issue with Videora. The author of the software even posted that problem on their website:
    Known Bugs
    Audio/Video sync
Problem - Output files can be out-of-sync. While no set pattern has been established, it seems to be more frequent with input files of 23.976 fps, non-DVD rips, and WMV/MPG filetypes.
Workaround solutions - Try the custom option '-async 1'. If the disconnect gradually increases over time, setting 29.97 fps sometimes gets rid of the problem regardless of the input fps. You can also use AviSynth to assume the FPS and have the audio sync to that. If it's a sudden disconnect, check your VOB Cell settings in DVD Decrypter settings per this thread. Otherwise, test with an AviSynth script per the DaProphecy's method in the FAQ. For non-DVD files, PSPVideo 9 may be a good short-term solution until the converter stabilizes some more or try something like AviDemux
I would suggest that you do some more research and switch to a different converter.

  • I need some straight talk about PCM vs. AC3

    Hello,
I am getting conflicting messages about which type of audio to use, the PCM audio (AIFF/WAV) or AC3 (Dolby). Several posts on here swear that you should always use AC3, that it helps with playback issues. But when I preview both clips in DVD SP4, the AIFF sounds way, way better, the AC3 is hushed and tin-can sounding? Why, if my total assets going to disc are only 2.2. GB would I not use the AIFF files since they seem to sound better and there is plenty of room on the disc? Thanks for your help.
    Paul

I do appreciate your insights aspalex, but the tests I have done here do not seem to indicate this to be true about the AIF file and the AC3 sounding identical. I mean, how could they, one file is 45 MB and the other, the AC3 has been reduced to 5 MB!! Something has to give, and I can hear the difference. Now if I go and set all the levels higher in FCP then maybe the AC3 will be at the same level. I have never cared much for Dolby for this reason, it is doing some sort of compression to get that file so small. I remember back when I had a Kenwood tape player in my old semi-automatic Honda Accord (yeah, that was some kinda car :P ) and it had a Dolby button, before you pressed the button for Dolby you could hear the treble real good (as well as the static), after pressing the Dolby button, the sound was more "muted" but the static was gone. It seems the same thing is happening here.
So perhaps it is more an issue of DVD player compatibility overall. If someone says to me that if I use PCM it will fail in my old Apex DVD player but not in the new Sony DVD player, and if I use AC3 it will never fail in any drive, then that would definitely swing the vote in favor of AC3.
I can definitely understand someone using AC3 if space is a serious issue because the files are definitely smaller, and the quality loss is indeed very small (though I can still hear it) and that would help tremendously (such as Javier72 on his 8 GB DVD!). However, in my case space is not an issue at all, I just have 2.2 GB, and I want maximum quality on video and audio. But if I MUST use AC3 simply for the sake of player compatibility then I will.
Does that make sense? Am I missing something important?
    Thanks to all,
    Paul
