Hi,
I've been reading through the Director MX User Guide and Help
function but I'm still not able to get my Play, Pause and Stop
buttons to work right. Here's what I'm trying to do:
I have a slide presentation that I made in Director MX for my
class project. There are 12 slides in the presentation. Each slide
has a thumbnail in the left navigation panel so you can jump from
slide to slide. I have this part worked out. What I can't figure
out is the following:
1. How do I get play to function like a real Play >
button?
2. How do I pause play once the slide presentation has
started (i.e. get the Pause | | button to function like a pause
button)?
3. How do I resume play once the slide presentation has been
paused or stopped (using the Play > button)?

Financials is a front end for Accounting process as I understood. You should go with Oracle. There is no need of entering data in general ledger for your project.

I suggest,
1) You first report the behaviour of your 'Group' to your professors.
2) Try and learn the concepts that are not clear. This is where the NI forums become useful. While trying to understand these concepts, look into example programs and code simple programs first. When you have problems, post specific problems here and some one will help you for sure.
3) I understand since it is a student project, it will have it's one time frame and there would be a I am guessing about 6 months to complete your project. If you are that desperate, try the NI alliances site, they would 'Do' your project for you, but might be very costly.

Need help with a graduate student project

My name is Gordon and I'm posting here to see if I could possibly interview someone via email or over the phone for a training project I am doing for a course in Graduate School. I'm a first year Industrial and Organizational Psychology masters student attending San Francisco State University. The main purpose of this project is to help me get familiar with the entire process of developing, carrying out, and evaluating a technical training. I have chosen to create a training for iWork 09' because most of my class mates (myself included), have not had much experience with the program. My original idea was to tailor the training towards sales individuals, but I can modify that depending on who I'm able to interview (educators and other professionals).
The kind of person I'm looking to interview must either train others on how to use iWork and/or uses iWork themselves for work on a regular basis. It would be best if you are familiar with all 3 programs, but it is fine if you only use one or two of the programs. The entire interview will take no longer than 30 minutes, and if it's over email it'll just take two messages (1 for the original set of questions and a follow up email asking to expand on some of the original answers). As a part of my professor's requirement I will also need your contact information including: name, title, affiliation, address, phone number and email address. I don't believe my professor will actually be contacting you to verify that I haven't cheated on the assignment though.
Some sample questions include:
1. In your line of work, what are some of your major responsibilities?
2. How does iWork help you accomplish some of your work tasks/projects?
3. If you've received formal training on iWork, what was the environment like, and what parts of the training did you find enjoyable and helpful; what parts did you dislike?

I cannot offer you any monetary compensation for your time. I can only give you my sincere thanks, and perhaps send you a copy of my training outline when I'm finished with it.

Doing research for undergrad student project - Please help!

I'm doing research for a Computer Science project and could use some help. The project we have chosen is to develop a web-based application using web 2.0 techniques like AJAX. Not sure if the details of the application are pertinent to my question, so I won't post them at this point. Basically, we are trying to make a personal web finance app in a browser, similar to http://www.buxfer.com.
We are currently working through the software engineering phases of development, but we need to decide what our server platform will be and put something together.
I recently attended a Sun Developer Days conf in Atlanta, and I like a lot of the new "web stack" support that is offered. Here is what we are thinking of using:
Server apps:
Operating System:     Solaris 10 (should we go with opensolaris? whats the difference?)
Application Server:     Glassfish (Java EE 5) (or should we use Tomcat?)
Web Server:     Sun Java System Web Server (or should we use Apache?)
Database:          MySQL (or should we use Postgre?)
Version Control:     Subversion (is this needed? will have 5 students collaborating on project)
Client developer tools:
IDE:          Netbeans 6
Web 2.0 Framework:     GWT (Google Web Tookit)
Does this stack make sense?
Are there any tutorials or guides to help me set this up???

Web 2.0 Framework:     GWT (Google Web Tookit)There is nothing to help anyone give you tips on which way to go. A simple list of software is just a simple list of software. As you flesh out your project you also need to flesh out which each app can provide and hopefully then things get easier. You list no reason why you should tilt towards one app or another. Start with cost and go from there.

Student Project - Need Help With ViewPlatform Rotation

Hello folks,
I'm a student in Strathclyde University, Glasgow, and I'm currently doing a small project for one of my programming classes. I'm doing a 3D knots and crosses game but I'm having tremendous difficulty getting the rotation to work just the way I want it to. Let me decribe what I need.
Visualise 27 cubes, arranged in a 3 x 3 x 3 structure, space out slightly: a 3D knots and crosses setup. I'm trying to get the ViewPlatform to rotate around the central cube in a spherical fashion.
I also need this rotation to use the keyboard arrow keys, not the mouse because I am reserving the mouse for interaction using the PickMouseBehavior class as stated in my project specification.
I have looked up various classes in the API: such as KeyNavigator, OrbitBehavior, and some VisAd class that isn't included with the Java3D API nor is it on the systems I have available at the university.
The trouble is, all these classes that I have found do not rotate the way I need them to: as described above. They "turn left" and "turn right" the camera as opposed to "rotate left around" and "rotate right around" the central cube (i.e horizontal rotation of the camera on a wide circle around an object).
They also "move forward" and "move backward" as opposed to "rise up around" and "drop down around" the central cube (i.e. vertical rotation on a wide circle around an object).
I have previously tackled this problem by creating a dummy cube under the central cube using then attaching the "camera" to the dummy cube in the DarkBASIC programming language and wonder if this method is available using Java.
I've thought about defining my own arrow key rotation class, but I have little idea how to go about doing that either.
An additional bonus would be the ability to limit vertical rotation so as not to go over and upside-down the vertical limit.
Any help would be appreciated.

I appreciate the answer and I know about implementing a Behavior to do this particular function of the program: is this what you are suggesting?
If so, could you provide some clarity onto how go about implementing a Behavior to do the type of rotations I stated in my first post? By clarity I mean a little bit more about the recipe for creating a Behavior: the API is lacking documentation on this I think.
I'll go do a bit of reading on it and tell you where I get. Nonetheless, any further advice would be much appreciated.

Student Project - Finance or 9i

Hey everyone,
final year student here. Decided to create a mortgage analyser for my final project. Basically it will allow users to view the various products and rates from different lenders. However, before I download Oracle, I was wondering what version should I use? Is there any benefit in getting the Oracle Finance product, or am i better off just using Oracle 9i / 10g??

I am working on a school project about machine vision. Circle detection function is being used in the project. my tutor require me to explain the basic algorithm and theory used in the IMAQ circle detection. But after a extensive searching, i still can't figure out the Danielsson Function for circle detection even i read the IMAQ concept manual.
Question
1) Does anybody tell me more about the concept used in IMAQ circle detection
2) Does the circle detection function is the same as the Hough transformation??

I usually use google to search danielsson function (distance) or machine vision circle detection as key phrase. the result usually refer danielsson as a name of a person. in fact, danielsson is a famous person. but the rare show me the theory. when using the phrase circle detection, it onlt give me hough transform.
does anybody possess some resources about danielsson function for circle detection??!! pls share with me if u could!!

Question on Measuring Lift Force for MAV Ornithopter for Student Project using Load Cell

Hey everyone!
I am new to these forums so bare with me, please. I am part of a senior design student group working on making a micro aerial vehicle ornithopter (generates lift by flapping its wings) similar to this Design.
We are using this load cell connected to an AD620 Op-Amp circuit that basically has two input wires from the load cell coming into the op-amp with a gain of 100 (there is an Rg resistor with 500 ohms in the circuit). The load cell and op-amp circuit are both powered correctly with 10 V and +-15 V, respectively. There are two output wires coming out of the circuit. One comes out of the 6th terminal of the op-amp, and one is connected to ground. If we turn on everything and test the output of the circuit with a multimeter there is little if no fluctuation in the output voltage, which is about .25 V with zero load. If we add precise weights and form a linear graph of the output voltage vs. weight, we can find that there is about .0045 volts/gram relationship.
Here comes the part we we are having trouble. It seems as though the circuit it working correctly, but when we try and hook it up to our USB-6221 DAQ Board though the ai0 (or any analog input) and confirm a LabVIEW program to read the output, we get a ton of noise along with a weird looking graph.

Basically, I would have though we could get a straight line that continuely increases or decreases depending on the load on the load cell. Why would it graph a ton of vertical lines? I would think it would be just one data point per time value?

The properties of the DAQ Assistant VI is as follows:
input range: -10 to 10 v
RSE terminal configuration
acquisition mode: n samples and not sure how many samples we want to read or how fast. we had 1k hz and 100 samples and the image above is basically what we got it the program runs continuously.
I don't know what else I can tell you, except that if anyone helps me you would be like a godsend to our group. It would be very much appreciated

As I am unable to look at youor images (the corporate filter here is blocking the url) I can't see what you are describing. I will say that a multimeter will not show fast transitions that will show up in a LabVIEW/DAQ application, so using a meter usually doesn't tell you that much about signal "cleanness". How long are the wires from the op amp/load cell to the DAQ? How long are the wires, and what type (shielded, twisted pairs, untwisted pairs, etc.) from the load cell to the op amp. The output levels of the load cell are usually quite low, so the possibility of also picking up "environmental" electrical noise is very high, and this will be amplified as well. Since the output of the op amp is higher, the noise introduced between it and the input to the DAQ is less of an issue, but there as well. So making sure that signal wires are properly shielded and grounded is important, and there are long papers describing this for low level analog signals. Since the load cells desired output will probably vary relatively slowly (a few Hz) it may also be helpful to put a simple low pass filter before the DAQ.

Generally most of us won't or can't go to links, corporate network filters and corporate policies frown on it, too much maleware lurking at the end of unknown URL's

Hi Mindforge,
Here's a behavior that will pause/resume by actually holding
the playback head in
the frame. Attach it to a sprite:
property pPauseVariable

if pPauseVariable = 0 then
go the frame

end
If in a paused state, the variable pPauseVariable is 0,

To jump to the next marker:
on mouseUp
go next

To jump to the previous marker:
on mouseUp
go previous
end
To jump to a specific marker
To jump to the next marker:
on mouseUp
go "markerName"
end
you can use:
go to 10
to jump to frame 10.
BUT DON'T!!!. It is bad to jump to a frame number. rather
link to a marker. You can
always insert or delete frames and if you link to a frame
number, the script will
become buggy.

How to create timed events in java? Urgent for student project

Hi all, its my first post so forgive me if it doesn't follow the normal standards!
I'm doing a project which involves creating a game where things appear and disappear on the screen by calling up the relevant methods. Its one step away from being complete but the only problem is that I don't know how to make it so that all the appearing and disappearing happens automatically (via a timer that also terminates the game after 30 seconds of play).
For the moment, I've programmed it so that every time i click on a button, the relevant actions occur.
Please could someone help- I'd remember you forever! I've looked everywhere but i can't find anything.

I need a knight in shining armour to save my day by creating the variables and methods i need so that I can copy and paste it into my work. The timer needs to be called after clicking on the:
startGame(); button which then calls the doAnimation(); method
every 3 or 4 seconds which does all the things i need. It then needs to terminate stop the game after 30 seconds by calling:
endGame();
after which it resets itself and only redoes it once the user clicks on startGame() again.
PLEASE HELP!

Ideas for a Java based Project

Hi all :)
I follow Java forums, mainly read, although post a bit whenever i know.
I am looking for some ideas on starting a College project which is based on java. Maybe java network based? Since there are so many experienced people here, i was wondering if some of you could tell me some ideas that i could do. I have a fair bit of experience with java. But if the project requires to learn something new...i wont mind at all. I would really appreciate you guys input about any ideas.

How to transfer and use the project files from Premiere Pro cs6 MAC OS to Premiere Pro CS6 Windows

Is there any plugin or tool that can help me to transfer my project files along data edited on adobe premiere cs6 MAC OS to the adobe premiere pro cs 6 on windows PC

When transferring a project from one computer to another,to stop errors such as these, its essential to ensure that the project is copied with all the files and folders in exactly the same locations. Also before opening the project on the new computer, you need to set up a new project and set all the preferences to be exactly the same as on the first computer. Then when you open the project, premiere will find all the files in all the right places. Even then you may need to re-link some files. Just follow the prompts when Premiere asks "Where is file...."
We use USB hard drives to store students projects on and they are used on many different computers without problems, as the preferences are all set to be the same.

Project (time) management in numbers?

Hi all,
I am setting up a few spreadsheets for next year's students projects and I was wondering if it possible to use the charts to show start and end dates for individual projects.
At the moment the chart always starts at zero and goes up to a set value. Is there a way to have a bar in a chart start above "zero"?
And slightly off-topic, any recommendations for a simple project/time management?
Something that would allow me to set up a grid (by week) and have bars (projects) start and stop at certain times? Something like MS Project, but simple and free would be a bonus

Password Protecting FCP project files

Why does Avid, Apple, Vegas Video, Ulead, etc. not offer password protected project files? This seems to be a simple technology. When you are on the high school and college level it's a constant battle to keep students from jacking with other student projects. If could open a project and it asks for your password, it would be heaven on this level. It makes sense to me. Can someone make the argument for why it does not?

Your school district's IT security people are idiots. Not their fault, It's a definition. There is simply no way to protect your computers from intelligent and skilled students. Why are you punishing them for acquiring crucial and relevant skills? The fact they have no morals is the problem.
Anyway, running Macs in labs under the highest security is not a problem, the military does it. All you need is the right tools and some background. You can set up any level of encryption or password protection you can be bothered to enforce and maintain. There are huge Web sites dedicated to the practice. Find a kid who wants to get an A in your video class and turn him loose. Make him do a business proposal and a proof of concept demonstration. Heck, PAY the little rat.

Can Premiere Pro 2.0 open projects saved in CS4?

Hello!
I'm trying to find out how or if it is possible to open a CS4 project in Premiere pro 2.0.
I did a search online and could not come up with anything definite. I know that CS4 can open 2.0 files,
but the other way around has not been clarified. Our student project received footage from FCP, and then another student worked
on it in CS4 (because of the new import feature) and now I need to open it in 2.0 because that is all we have.
Is this possible? If not, how would I get the FCP footage into premiere 2.0?

All kidding aside, if it can't be done how I described, how can it be done?
Why can't I open a CS4 project in 2.0? Additionally, what kind of work around is there? (like an EDL list and exporting the footage as AAF or something??)
I have a hard time believing that there is no one else who needs to get FCP projects into 2.0. Especially since one of the
students can get to it in CS4. I know it was a pain before CS4, but now with CS4 it shouldn't be a problem. Is this intentionally crippled
so as to encourage upgrades to CS4?
Anyways, if someone could describe a workflow that does NOT involve buying a mac and FCP, or upgrading to CS4 (I would literally have to upgrade
my computer too, so no thanks), I would be much obliged!!
