Student/Teacher edition for commercial use?
I received the student/teacher version of the CS6 Master collection from my school which I am currently enrolled at and I have recently started a production company with some colleagues and will be heavily using Premier Pro, After Effects and other applications for our business. We will be making money for our services so my question is will it be ok for me to use the student/teacher edition or will I need to get a CC subscription for commercial use?
Thanks!
Richard
is will it be ok for me to use the student/teacher edition
Yes.
Best explained here:
http://prodesigntools.com/difference-between-adobe-cs5-student-editions-vs-regular.html
"Since Creative Suite 5, all Student and Teacher Editions can be utilized for personal as well as commercial use, for all academic customers worldwide. So yes, you can sell your services or anything you create, or use these products in developing a side business or online venture. And after graduation or completion of coursework, you can continue to use the perpetual software on your personal systems; there is no usage expiration and those tools will continue to work."

"Can I use Student and Teacher Edition products commercially?
Yes, Student and Teacher Edition products can be used commercially on your privately owned computer. They may not be resold."

What i mean is:
-Can i use it inside my company to store customers, supplies etc?
-Can i develop an application on it and sell it to another one?
Thank,
MikeHi Mike,
for me the license agreement wasn't totally clear in some areas and after a misunderstanding with Oracle Sales in Germany I decided to talk to Oracle Product Management, here is the answer: http://daust.blogspot.de/2012/08/clarification-on-oracle-xe-licensing.html
It is definitely free for all commercial usages.

Upgrading student edition for commercial use?
hello
i have called up the Adobe customer service line twice now and been given two different answers to my questions, so i have decided i would give the adobe forum a go as you guys seem on the ball, and most likely don't work in an Indian call centre.
My two questions are:
1) Can CS4 design premium student edition be used for commercial use in Australia?
( It seems like a stupid question because it says not for commercial gain, but i have called up the Adobe customer service line and i was told i was able to use it for commercial gain. I made sure to note that i was in Australia and not in North America.)
2) If i cannot, am i able to upgrade the student edition so i can use it for commercial gain? If Yes can you please share with me a link or supply some further information.
( The second call centre guy said yes to this question, but didn't explain himself very well.)
Any information would be appreciated, as i hope to start doing some commercial work this year.Hi Wyllium,
I do not know where you found the above information, but here are few links on Adobe site which confirms that the Education version products can be used for commercial purpose:

Education editions for commercial use
I am a full-time student, so I am eligible to purchase an education edition (not student edition, I am aware there is a difference).
I have read on many different websites that education editions can be used for commercial use, but I just want to confirm that this is true in Australia, and is for ANY commercial use - I am starting a business while still a full-time student, so I will have my own ABN and everything. You can in the US you can't in Europe. I don't know about Australia. You will need to call Adobe Australia.

CS5 Student & Teacher Editions & Commercial use (in Australia)
specifically student editions not educational version.
I know that in CS4, commercial use is only valid in the USA.
It looks like the older "education version" is no more in CS5 and is replaced? by "Student & Teacher Edition".
I have read in the FAQ from the USA Adobe website that this is allowed for commercial use:
http://www.adobe.com/education/students/studentteacheredition/faq.html
I have also seen the UK Adobe site that it is allowed for commercial use:
http://www.adobe.com/uk/education/students/studentteacheredition/faq.html
the image is broken on this link. is this just a template that has been copied over from the USA website? or is this the official thing?
I am from Australia and the FAQ has not been updated and still shows information for CS4.
clicking on FAQ from this link on the australian site of Adobe links to the CS4 FAQ:
http://www.adobe.com/ap/education/solutions/students/studentteacheredition/
which is this link: http://www.adobe.com/ap/education/students/studentedition/faq.html
though after some digging I have found the Australian link to the new FAQ but it also has a broken image and im not exactly sure if its the read thing or just a template again:
http://www.adobe.com/ap/education/students/studentteacheredition/faq.html
they all state:
Can a student or teacher use the Adobe Student and Teacher Edition software for commercial use?
Yes. Those who purchase this product can use it for personal as well as commercial use.
I havent found anything about "only in north america" stuff.
anyway, i would assume that any purchase of CS4 now would have a free upgrade to CS5, right?
If i purchase CS4 student edition (which here in australia isnt allowed for commercial use) and then get a free upgrade to CS5 (student & teacher edition (i would assume this would be the version CS4 student edition would get for the free upgrade? and assuming that commercial use of CS5 is now allowed in Australia for Student & Teacher Edition) would that mean that I can now use my CS4 student edition that was originally not allowed for commercial use then now be allowed for commercial use when upgraded to CS5 student & teacher edition?
I hope that makes sense and doesnt confuse too much.
I also posted up a thread about my eligibility if im a student that has finished classes and waiting to just graduate now. I was wondering if I may still be considered an eligible student to purchase.Hi, I think I have found an answer to this but I would still like to have it confirmed by someone from Adobe (please).
I found a post at http://www.hellophoto.co.nz/showthread.php?3223-Lightroom-3-is-now-out&p=32387#post32387
Where someone in the forum says they contacted Adobe NZ about this:
I asked Adobe about the answer to the question about commercial useage - this was the reply I got
This has caused some confusion as we have recently
changed the policy around this. You are correct that it used to just be
in the US however in CS5 we have changed this to be the case for all
regions.
In NZ Student and Teacher licenses can be used
for commercial use both during study and after students or teachers have
finished/left. I.e. a teacher can do freelance work on the side and
still be eligible for the student and teacher pricing.
When the next version of CS is released students
who have finished their studies or teachers who have left the institute
can upgrade to a commercial version at the upgrade price.
We do not require them to upgrade so if they wish
they can stay on CS5 indefinitely, when they do decide to upgrade they
will need to purchase a commercial license. We have tiered upgrade
pricing though so it works out cheaper for them if they do upgrade
straight away.
The main condition for Student and teacher is
that it is installed on a private computer so cannot be installed at an
institute (school, uni or poly). Instead, educational institutions must
purchase the Education version.
Student and teacher licenses are for home use on
private computers for educational or commercial purposes for that one
person. There is no serial number in the box and verification is
required.
Educational licenses are for use on an education
institute’s (schools, unis or polys) computers, this is for educational
use only and does not include commercial use. Single teachers should not be purchasing this type of license, the only people who should be buying educational licenses are educational institutions.
I teach Photoshop and Illustrator at a Uni in Australia and would really like to be able to tell students if they can use the Student and Teacher editions for commercial use - If the above is true I think this is a very clever move by Adobe but it would be really good if they made it a bit clearer. -
Lightroom 4 - Registering Student & Teacher Edition
I need to register and obtain a password for Adobe Photoshop Lightroon 4 - Student Teacher Edition for my step-son (DOB: 23 Nov 1995), however the instructions given with the software are not clear to me about how I should do this. I have an electronic copy of his Student Card. Any help with this would be appreciated.
Hi Jim, Thanks for the information about registering Lightroom 4: student edition. I did eventually manage to work it out myself, however the information provided by Adobe was very confusing. Regards

Packaged with the student/teacher edition is a little yellow card. On that card there's a web site referred to. When you go to that website you will be asked to provide certain information to verify that you qualify for the student/teacher edition and discount. When that is verified you'll be asked to enter the code included with your Lightroom package. It looks like a standard serial number. After that number has been verified, along with all of the other information you are asked to provide, you will receive an e-mail with your serial number that you use to activate Lightroom.

Europe: Students edition for commercial work
Hello, i read somwhere on site about a half year ago that there are different policies for US and non US students. I am student from Portugal and i would like to purchase Creative Cloud for students and i would like to know if i will be able to produce sellable products using your software
http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/education-faq.html
Can I use Student and Teacher Edition products commercially?
Yes, Student and Teacher Edition products can be used commercially.
There is no information or limitation set on the FAQ for the EMEA region. So in my opinion it is not true there are differences on commercial work -
I have purchased a student version of the Creative Suite 5.5, including Photoshop; am I legally able to use it's components for personal & commercial gain?

I purchased “Adobe Captivate 8 Student and Teacher Edition” for Mac on 7/31/14 and it is now 12/17/14 (only 5 months later) but it is showing as “Not applicable” when I go to download (maybe re-download) the program. I understood that I would be able to use the application on 2 computers, one at home and one at work. I think I’ve downloaded the program at home one time but have yet to install and activate it. I now have a new computer at work that can support that program and want to install the program on my office computer, but cannot download it again. Please advise.
It seems like that you have purchased a subscription for Captivate 8. In subscription you do not require any serial number. Subscriptions are activated on the basis of your Adobe Id. When user will install Captivate he has to sign in with the same Adobe Id under which they bought subscription. It will get activated after successful sign in during the installation.
As far as the installer is concern there is no difference in the trial version installer or purchased version installer. The installer is same for trial and purchased copy. All user needs to do is sign in during the installation if it is a subscription or use his serial number if it is a perpetual license or volume license.
You may download the trial version from the link mentioned above and then use your Adobe Id to activate the subscription.
Please let me know in case you need any further information.

Rajeev.
